Hey look, it’s all-star week. Wonderful… stupendous… greaaaaat *said in sarcastic monotone voice* Real baseball? Blah! Give me games so I can play my game. I can’t even go to Draftkings… or can I? *writes note to text Sky* From my many years of watching movies and television shows I have gathered that a play is in two acts. I could look this up, but I don’t want the government thinking I’m going to plays. Speaking of the theater, I was watching Little Nikita the other night while I fought with my insomnia and was surprised when I found out that it was directed by the same guy that directed my Week 14th Update and this all star cast classic. Sorry guys… and girls, that was a whole lot of unnecessary, here is a good baseball fight clip for you, for putting up with me. Prior to the break, I had been ranking players by combining what they had done, what they will do, and to a small degree, their trade value. All in all, it was always looking forward. Today, I am traveling in time (but not really), to give you my top-100 ROS. Think of it as a clean slate for some, an endorsement of others, and a dumping on of those that I don’t like for the second half. So put on your head band on and let’s go to the future. Oh, wait, before moving on to the list I want you to know there is no creeper this week nor a frankencatcher. They will return next Sunday when we have full week ahead of us!

  • After further review I had to swap Goldy and Trout. It’s so close that it can go either way. Speaking of either way, if you own either you have nothing to worry about.
  • For those that said 3rd base is shallow this year were really wrong. Four of my top 10 occupy the hot corner. I wouldn’t be shocked if Kris Bryant had a top 15 2nd half. Same goes for Crush Davis or the not really a sleeper but could be a monster Miguel Sano! Speaking of Sano, does anyone have a cool nick name for him? Please post one in the comments below.
  • Just Dongs Martinez is me going out on a limb for the second half. With the loss of Miggy and the return V-Mart, who btw is hitting well, JD has opportunities in abundance. I’m banking on him jumping all over them and boosting the crap out of his counting stats.
  • I got a strange call the other night. It was a digitized voice slowly saying Jose over and over. The mix of heavy breathing and an angle grinder in the background makes me think it was the Hitter-Tron and the Player Rater ganging up on me. PR really loves Jose ($40.9) in the 2nd half and I can’t handle any more of those phone calls.
  • Players 11-25 are a mix of guys I’m either really excited about or guys that have a lot of history on their side. Some with history on their side have question marks but also haven’t given me enough reason to drop them further. Joey Bats shoulder really sucks. On the flip side I love the Pollock and the Blackmon who I have loved all year. In the Razznasty Dynasty League I own both. One guy I wished I owned is Betts, he has really come on and is looking like that guy that so many over drafted.
  • Upton, Hanley and Marte are three guys I don’t want to own in the second half. Two oblique’s and a Hanley are all passes for me. I have a hard time believing Marte can keep up his 31.7% HR/FB. What does seems possible is Hanley will have a ghost injury…jinkies!
  • I love Jay Bruce in the second half. I don’t know what else to tell you, but I heart him and I want you to own him. His batted ball profile and increased Hard Contact percentage scream power surge. I’m banking on it.
  • I’m wishy washy on Joc Pederson. His July has been silent and by playing in the all-star game he isn’t taking a break. He has great speed they never use and if he doesn’t pick up the power by August then we got a problem.
  • With Springer out the Astros have moved Altuve back to where he belongs at lead-off and they have Correa batting third. I love the opps Correa will be getting and that is reflected in my ranks. If you own him you better hold him.
  • Cameron Maybin fascinates me. We have been waiting his whole career for him to be this relevant and if he gets traded then this could all go to sh**. He’s playing like the player drafters thought they were getting in Yelich. I doubt with his price tag he will get moved to be a 4th outfielder but I also read rumors that the Braves want to hold on to him.
  • Lots of players here should have IHSH (if he stays healthy) in front of their name. Choo, Reddick, Byrd, Belt, Morales, CarGo, Pence, and Pedroia come to mind first. I woud temper my expectations with these players.
  • I’m at a lost when it comes to Jorge Soler. I left him here for his unbelievable upside and if I had the chance I would buy low on him. It’s a gamble, but one worth it for me.
  • I welcome all your questions and criticisms for this list. Its my take on how I value players for the “2nd half” of the 2015 season. I’m not as worried about what they have done so far but what they will do going forward. Let’s just hope only JoFer makes Todd Frazier look like Fatolo.

Suprised you have Duda so high. I do own him though, so I hope you’re right!

@Gareth: he has 15 homer 2nd half upside.

Abreu is too high. CarGon is too low.

@Grey: Billy two times, he is so fast I counted him twice…actually had to make a last second change because of injury and it got crossed up.

        • Bill Lee says:

@J-FOH: maybe he should be known as Billys Burns ala Kennys Vargas.

          just a thought.

Billy Burns is so fast he appears on the list twice

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

      @ichirosan: Yup, was noted above

  6. Gareth says:
    (link)

    Altuve should be higher.

    Story of his life!

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Gareth: no, he’s fine where he is at. A lot of his value last year was that crazy high BA supported by a high BABIP. He will be lucky to get to 50 steals and shouldn’t get close to last years .341

  7. BootsyBaby says:
    (link)

    Aoki?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

      @BootsyBaby: what about him?

      • BootsyBaby says:
        (link)

        @J-FOH:
Not in the top 00 or DL for ROS? Less valuable than Avisail?

        • BootsyBaby says:
          (link)

Not in the top _100_ for the rest of 2015 (or a DL list participant)?

          • J-FOH says:
            (link)

@BootsyBaby: I thought he was on the DL list. Im meh on him, maybe in the 90’s, depends on need kind of guy

  8. TJ says:
    (link)

Could you or Grey expound some great knowledge on why Abreu will have a good 2nd half?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@TJ: he still has massive upside and the break will give him time to rest his leg. The Sox have been collectively down and I’m still a firm believer in him getting his numbers. Steamer has him for 17HR’s ROS and it seems fair.

  9. Jim Diffley says:
    (link)

    Oh no, Sano!!

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Jim Diffley: good none. When pitchers see him they say to themselves….I was thinking Sanomatic

  10. Pever Fitch says:
    (link)

Logan Forsythe and Chris Colabello have been pretty good during the 1st Half, how do you see them performing ROS? Also, how would you rate those two, plus Inciarte and Granderson ROS?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Pever Fitch: Forsythe has been better than what we thought he would be. I think he’s a 25/5/20/4/.255 hitter the rest of the way. Colabello has been great and it pains me not to have him on the list but with the platoon usage lately I can’t get on board with him. Inciarte would probably be in the 80’s, I like his speed, runs and batting average combo. Grandy is kind of a donkey at this point and should only be used if you are starved for power.

  11. Mike

    Mike says:
    (link)

Ever see Pelotero? Great doc about Sano in the Dominican…nickname was bocaton in the film…”big mouth” or something like that I think is what it meant

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Mike: I remember you sending that you tube movie on him. I never watched it but have it saved for a rainy day. He could be the best of the rookie this year…Bryant included

  12. roger roger says:
    (link)

What are the chances Corey Seager gets called up and merits top 100 inclusion by the end of the year? (I have Desmond on my bench, and I’ve been starting Yunel, but worried about SS.)

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@roger roger: being in the Dodgers market I got pelted with info on him and i honestly think he’s a September call up.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@roger roger: what other SS options are there?

      • roger roger says:
        (link)

@J-FOH: The most intriguing options on the wire are Hech, Brad Miller and Eugenio Suarez, which… isn’t especially intriguing. Would probably have to work out a deal. (Made a v. aggressive bid for Correa, and was told in no uncertain terms to get bent.)

        • J-FOH says:
          (link)

@roger roger: Yunel is still not a bad play this year

  13. Gareth says:
    (link)

    Sonny Gray was simply dominant.

Poor Kluber. One missed location on a pitch to Vogt and he’s the unlucky loser again.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Gareth: Vogt almost smashed one in the first and got robbed by murphy. Take off your tribe colored lenses

      • Gareth says:
        (link)

@J-FOH: I own Vogt so I’ll take it.

The Indians offense just hasn’t been able to hit all year so mistakes by the stellar pictching become more magnified. Which sucks.

        • J-FOH says:
          (link)

@Gareth: and the bullpen is average. Carlos and Moss have both been major letdowns

          • Gareth says:
            (link)

            @J-FOH: Agree on both points.

  14. Gareth says:
    (link)

Cameron Maybin shouldn’t be on the list.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

      @Gareth: prove that

      • Gareth says:
        (link)

@J-FOH: After his initial prospect hype with the Marlins he’s bounced around and dissapointed his entire career.

I can’t believe he’s only 28 years old. Seems like he’s been around a long time.

Like you mentioned with some other guys, if he stays healthy them maybe (maybin) he’s valuable, especially for Sagnof.

        • J-FOH says:
          (link)

@Gareth: none of that means anything for what he has done this year. His line drives are up and groundballs are down. His Med contact is way up while he is making a lot less soft contact. He has really been what people drafted Yelich for

        • JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
          (link)

@J-FOH: @Gareth: Maybin’s approach now has completely changed. I read an article earlier in the year where he was praising htting coach Kevin Seitzer and that he really took to what he was teaching. Due to that article I decided to drop my worst player and snagged Maybin right when it looked like he was becoming the starting CF. He is a completely different hitter now. Just watch him and it’s easy to see. I fully believe what he is doing is sustainable.

          • J-FOH says:
            (link)

@JoeMorgan’sMustache: good stuff. I glanced something about an approach change too. At 64 I think thats a good amount of love for him

            • Bill Lee says:
              (link)

@J-FOH: Bill Lee has a man crush on Maybin.

  15. Gareth says:
    (link)

You starting Anderson at home versus Lohse and the brewers?

How about Alex Wood @corrs versus Bettis.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

      @Gareth: I’m starting Anderson and I wouldn’t start wood

      • Gareth says:
        (link)

        @J-FOH: that’s what I’m leaning.

I like Wood (teehee) but Corrs is scary – especially with lefty killers Rosario and Stubbs lurking.

  16. Gareth says:
    (link)

    Meanwhile in New York…….

Someone with a new house had to go home at 3 because they had the runs.

  17. Blahbahblah says:
    (link)

Freaking Soler is the millstone around my neck. Sucked through the early going, clogged a spot on my perpetually crowded DL for a lengthy spell, is a K machine…and I’m terrified to cut him because I just know that if and when I do, the weather will finally warm up and he’ll get hot and his power, like Austin Powers mojo, will return and I’ll regret it the entirety of the ROS

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Blahbahblah: he’s like those solar powered lights people put in their yard. Dim lighting with the hope that more sun will make them brighter

  18. wjessereid says:

@wjessereid: oh damn, grab Maybin, CarGo and Khris, drop Holt, Fowler, and span

Since he restored my belief in true love, I think his nickname should be “The Sanotebook.”

@Clyde Prompto: the fact that you know what the notebook is leads me to disregard that statement

      • Clyde Prompto says:

  24. Eric says:

Understand you are down on Upton and Marte. Does where you have them ranked reflect your assessment of their second half standing?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Eric: I’m looking at them for what you should expect in the second half. Its a clean slate right now

      • Eric says:
        (link)

        @J-FOH:

Very helpful article. To get it straight: ROS you would rather own Upton and Marte than Bruce. Correct? Thanks.

Do you see weaknesses that I should address through trades?

@Jarryd: not close for me, I’d want Harvey

  28. Eric says:

Wow. You rank Duda ahead of Hosmer, Lind, Kendry. His contact rate for past month is 65% and 53% for last week, plus very low LD% (under 15). Please explain your faith in the big man.

@Eric: Like I prefaced above, it’s a clean slate with a lot of players. He has 15 HR pop ROS. Once you get past the top 60 it’s all about needs. With so much power on the DL people have to replace it and increases its value…to me. Speed can always come in SAGNOF. If we had more healthy elite bats then he wouldn’t be as high

I’ve turned down multiple trade offers for Franco, including one that would’ve netted me King Felix and Maybin. I hesitated on that a bit, I’m pretty sure I did the right thing but I want some reassurance there. Its a 16 team dynasty, keep all and I do have Frazier, but Felix doesn’t quite seem his usual dominating self. Close to it, but some of the numbers scared me off.

    • J-FOH says:

@PancakeMaker: In dynasty I want Frazier and Franco for the next few years

what kinda trade value do you think I could get from Marte? Its’ been nice owning him so far but I agree with your concerns. OF upgrade on a guy like Blackmon?

and Jorge Soler… can’t drop him but he’s been an unbelievable flop so far this year. No words!

    • J-FOH says:

@assy: If you can get Blackmon and a throw in for Marte I would take it

      1) its a mess this week, nothing you can do
      2) I like to spread around the risk with first few rounds
      3) I wouldnt make that deal, they are worth more in dynasty

  33. Fastpitch says:

Hopefully you’re right on E-5 and Abreu. They where my 1st two picks at the 8-12 turn.
    1. For us guys in weekly leagues with lineups due by Monday noon,do we guess on what 3 SP are scheduled for next week? Just trying to get as many RP in as possible. I can’t find any possible matchups.
    2. Just for conversation what are your thoughts on drafting strategy in redraft leagues on owning the same top 10ish player on multiple teams? I passed on Rizzo for Abreu now so far I’m regretting it?
    3. In a dynasty keep everyone, I have Miggy and am getting trade offers for him from teams with no chance to win. I got offered Pujols and Jones for Miggy and Rendon. I’m in 4th with a solid chance if I had those two players. What should I be able to get for Miggy and Rendon using top 10,20 ect type players.
Thanks, and sorry for multiple questions. Another thought is this site is my only place i can talk/read about fantasy sports. Most people I know don’t have a clue. Thanks, again.

I’ve had it with Rubby…he is dead to me……need to pick up a bench bat……catchers are Grandal and Norris….one sackers and utility position are currently flipped between Ortiz, Laroche, Headley, Suarez and Jace…..should I pick up BOUR or JASO?…….

Thought process is Jaso can be used as maybe a Util or to take over for Norris as he has been terrible lately…..or Bour on a full time Util basis as he’s been raking….OR hopefully use one for trade bait as Bour could be a cheap young keeper for a team out of contention and Jaso as a good catcher bat for someone as we have 28 catchers drafted in our deep league……so bla bla bla….votes…..BOUR or JASO? Thanks to all…..

I remember coming out of my draft so pissed at myself for drafting Blackmon as my 3rd OF (meant to grab Pollock) lol what great leaps and adjustments both players have made.

    • J-FOH says:

@M: Blackmon has put up very good numbers in the past. Writers have always blown him off.

  41. John says:
    (link)

By sheer luck I picked up JD Martinez and now you have him ranked as a top 10 hitter for ROS. What would you say a likely ranking for him going into next year is if he in fact proves to be a top 10 bat the rest of the way this year?

    Thanks in advance.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@John: one thng to keep in mind is he is that high because either others are hurt on the DL, have nagging injuries, or having down years. I think he is a top 25 bat for next year

      • John says:
        (link)

@J-FOH: I got offered Sale and Brantley for Price and JD. Think Brantley will bounce back next year(I’m going to finish last this year, I was an expansion team in an already existing keepe league).

        • J-FOH

          J-FOH says:

  42. Mark says:

Neil Walker was killing me all year so I dropped him and picked up Valbuena. He missed a couple games so I picked up Hernandez. Now Walker is killing it and Hernandez is doing nothing! I have Valbuena and Cesar Hernandez on my team and Walker, Phillips and Odor on the waiver wire. Do you think Walker is much better than those other four or when he cools off would some of the others have just as much upside for ROS? Thanks.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Mark: Walker has history on his side and I prefer his stability. If I’m going upside younger players then I want Odor

    (link)

What about Justin Turner? Hes hitting third in a pretty good dodger lineup. Why is he not in the top 100?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Jupton: it was a toss up when I go to the end and I preferred guys with more defined roles. After the trade deadline I will look at him again. He had a really strong two weeks then has been avg the last two weeks since. Middle of the order, especially LA, doesn’t carry a ton of weight for me,

  45. Jupton says:
    (link)

    1) Do you think spans back will bother him all year?
    2) Do you think Inciarte will be as good as span?
    3) Are you scared of Deshields .260 average with his .350 babip? That screams regression.
    3) Where would you rank all of them rest of season if they were all healthy at the start of the second half?

Btw I posses the same love for Blackmon as you. I just took Grey’s advice and sold kipnis for him.

    Thank you

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

      @Jupton:
      1) Yes

      4) ender, deshields, span

      Nice trade

Grichuk keep starting (for Jay) after Holliday gets back and do you like him more than (platooner) Colabello?

    Tx

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@greg: I think he platoons with Jay once everyone is healthy. If I’m going to own a platooner then I want to own Colabello

  47. Eric says:

Adam Jones stand out to me as a faller from the earlier rankings. Why no love for AJ?

  48. Jaymz says:
    (link)

Nice post man. Valbuena, Odor and Avisail over Paredes, Devon and Segura though? You must see something I don’t! (I don’t see much, so that’s very probable.)

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Jaymz: for valbuena he’s purely a one trick pony but as the season goes he gains some value for those zeroing in on the power category. A lot of people lost power bats in the last two weeks and those owners need a guy like Valbuena a lot more than Segura or Devon. I like devon, he almost made the cut and the same goes. Since I cleaned the slate, a surprise player like Paredes, who also finished ice cold, can work his way back on to the list

  49. Douglas L. DeLorean III says:
    (link)

Shocked at how low you have CarGo. I’m assuming you think he’ll get injured to rank him so low. Seems to be putting it together finally at the plate and is still young, in prime years. Beneath Seager, Peralta, Wong? Harsh, brother.

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Douglas L. DeLorean III: not really. He is still a ticking time bomb when it comes to getting hurt and what we need in the 2nd half is AB’s.

      @Prknz: grab delino

  52. Chucky says:

Following up on your Colobello remark, he platoons with Smoak from the wrong side. The other day they sat Bello v Duffy a LHP. Im at wits end. Thinking of dropping Bello for Smoak? Cron?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@Chucky: I prefer cron if you need the power

    • Scott says:

@Chucky: Smoak will be just as frustrating. Take it from someone who’s had both.

  53. tokyofantasy says:
    (link)

Growing frustrated with Moss and thinking about dropping him for some hot bat like
Castellanos or Bour. You still rank him at 70 though. Do you think he will rebound in the 2nd half?

    • J-FOH says:
      (link)

@tokyofantasy: he has upside power and that’s why he is getting love from me. Depends on who you are grabbing size of league and needs

      • tokyofantasy says:
        (link)

@J-FOH: Thanks J. Will stick with him a bit more then. 13er OBP Roto btw. Need to keep it up ’til Stanton comes back…

Shocked JD is that high. I understand the dood went on a tear but is really hot and cold. I don’t see anyway her has another 11 homer month, which means that he probably finishes outside of the top 25 easy in my opinion. What’s your justification there, especially when projecting forward?

      @Lance B.: it’s a bullet point in the post
