It’s year 15 of the RCLs! That’s right, if the RCLs are in the bathroom, don’t knock, just give them like five minutes because they’re checking the price guide for their Semien condition, so to speak. They grow up so fast, right? Soon, the RCLs are going to be dating, then fall for their high school sweetheart, then get married at 19, then quit school to support their young family. Then, an affair will start with their co-worker, and the RCLs will secretly despise their family when they turn 30 for depriving the RCLs of their lifelong dream of going to umpire school. Man, some serious RCL bitterness incoming! Maybe you should just hit the lottery, RCLs, then you can spend all your money on a McMansion and a tiger tied to a tree. Unfortunately, the tree isn’t sturdy enough and bends all the way over allowing the tiger to break loose and stalk the RCLs into their bathroom where the RCLs wail, “I didn’t know how good I had it when I had no money and just the fun of playing in a free fantasy baseball league against 11 of my closest frenemies.” So, don’t make the same mistake as the RCLs, and live your best life by joining some free fantasy baseball leagues!

Did I say free fantasy baseball leagues?

No, technically, I just typed it.

All right, if you could join a fantasy baseball league that was against, like, thousands of others, would you or are you…chicken? Don’t make me call a bawk-bawk on you.

This isn’t a 1000-person league, where people are trying to figure out who the back-up third baseman is on the Single-A Astros affiliate, the Corpus Christi Amscrayers. No, this is a 12-person league designed so you compete against eleven other people in your league, then 75 other leagues of twelve. That would be cool. Oh, wait, we’ve done that. It’s called the Razzball Commenter Leagues, and they’re back, and you don’t even have to be a commenter to join it!

For a limited time only, get your loved one a fantasy baseball league! That’s right, your hearts go pitter-patter or you’re dead on the inside (my condolences). Since back in June when you abandoned your fantasy baseball team because it was totally sucking and you returned to your cubbyhole of leftover Chinese food and Teddy Grahams, you’ve longed for this day. As Bob Marley sang, this is your redemption song, mon. Or womon, for our five girl readers. It’s time again to join some fantasy baseball leagues!

Before you close all of your extraneous porn windows and rush to sign up, let’s explain how these fantasy baseball leagues are going to work. We’re going to have a bunch of leagues and crown a winner from each, then we’re going to crown ONE winner from all of the winners. We will be crowning the winner by taking each team’s points and multiplying it against a ‘league competitiveness factor.’ If you want to see how it worked last year, go here.

So we’re going to fill up as many fantasy leagues as we can for the next seven weeks.  Each fantasy baseball league will be a mixed league, 12 team, snake draft, roto, 5×5, 5 OFs, one Middle Infielder, one Corner Infielder, one Utility, 9 pitchers, 20 game positional eligibility, 1400 innings max, 1000 IP minimum with 3 DL slots with a 500 moves per year cap, which I think maybe two people reached last year. So, that move limit isn’t inhibitive for even those who rosterbate until they are blind.

The leagues will be again at Fantrax.

We’re going to start with 40 leagues and see how we do from there. There are a few pay leagues, neither Razzball or Fantrax keeps any money. If people want more pay leagues, fill these up and we’ll open more. If we need more free leagues, we’ll do the same. To join a league…Sorry, again for the people in the back of the room:

TO JOIN A LEAGUE

Click the LINK in the ‘League Link’ column (see below grid) for the time you want and YOU’RE IN.  Damn, that’s too easy.  Oh, I guess I should also mention make sure you’re joining a league for free or for money, depending on your preference.  If you want a league for money, then 1) Click the link. 2) Pay the money.  That’s it!  No pesky third requirement!  Again, Fantrax and Razzball take no money.  You can join as many free or paid leagues as you like.  To quit a league, go to OTHER –> All Options –> Quit League (located at the bottom).  Now go join some leagues!

THE BIG PRIZE

All leagues (paid and free) will play for the big prize. So, what do you win? You win bragging rights! Not just any bragging rights, but the bragging rights that you beat a thousand or so other people, and you can emphasize the “or so” as emphatically as you’d like. What? Not enough? Okay, for this year’s prize we’re taking the bull out of bulloney. We are upping the ante. “Hey, Olympic high jumper, can you jump over this ante?” No, you can’t, it’s been upped too high. LOOK, it’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s our ante! “Excuse me, astronomer, is that a satellite orbiting earth?” No, son, it’s Razzball’s ante. They upped it. This year we are giving away a $250 Best Buy Gift card, which can buy just about anything (up to $250). I recently bought a TV that sits underneath my toilet seat so when I whizz I can watch TV. Granted, I bought this in a dream I had and I was married to Sofia Vergara in said dream, but this must exist, right? Also, for s’s and g’s, I’ll throw in a Razzball t-shirt because I have 14,000 of these and I’ve already outfitted all the homeless people in my neighborhood with SAGNOF t-shirts. But, most importantly, you will be crowned the 2025 Razzball Commenter League Champion. Okay, now sign up…

Question on money leagues – what’s the distribution of funds for the top finishers? Top 3? Winner-takes-all?

And… extra question for the marvelous Mr Truss – Crab Army league. Are invites going out to the same teams from last year, or there was an original list that will be reached out to first? (I was a last-minute fill in for that league, which obviously went well..)

I’m deciding on my final league for 2025 – would either be a money league (guessing it would be more attentive), or a normal RCL (Crab Army or another one).

Obligatory keeper question…
16 teams, H2H, OBP instead of AVG. Both QS and W. It’s a daily league where people go nuts for pitchers.

We keep 5 and I have to decide on the 5th and final.

Keeping:
Ragans $31
Jarren Duran $20
Ozuna $3
Tovar $3

5th keeper possibilities:
Skubal $49
Teoscar $31
Merrill Kelly $5
Jordan Hicks $2

Hey Grey 12 team 6×6 OBP and holds league need to figure out 5 keepers. There are 4 that I’m pretty sure about but struggling with the fifth:
JRod
Captain Woo Cubano
Merrill
Imanaga

Best of the rest:
Vientos
Crews
Woo
Helsley
Sonny Gray
Alcantara

Fangraphs dropped their top 100 prospects and I cant recall a year that seemed more divisive. Seems some guys hit the hype and others are hot drops.

Example they got Tigers Thayron Liranzo (a prospect in Flaherty trade) ahead of Mayo both in mid 40s. If the Tigers could do that sign me up. Yeah, Mayo deserves a knock back but a guy who dominated AA & AAA vs a guy not even in AA and cant play C? Hmmmm. How many DH only top 100 prosprects are there?

“Chief among Liranzo’s developmental imperatives are his ball-blocking and throwing accuracy. When he has a clean exchange, Liranzo’s arm is lethal. He has uncommon athleticism for a guy his size and is capable of firing rockets from his knees or from funky arm angles, à la Patrick Bailey, with some pop times hovering around 1.80 seconds late in the 2024 season. So why has Liranzo allowed stolen bases at an 85% clip the last two years? He too often fumbles his exchange and can’t even get a throw off, or has the carry on his throw impacted by having a poor grip on the baseball. His stone-handed issues are evident when he tries to pick short hops, too, though Liranzo began receiving on one knee in 2024 and is learning how to use his size as a ball-blocking barrier from this body position. The physical tools to not only be a viable catcher, but a very good one, are here, and Liranzo is built like a lot of other late-blooming catchers whose size tends to win the war of attrition they’re all constantly fighting.’

A guy at catcher who cant play catcher. Got it. Then they knock Mayo bc he might not fit at 3B and might ONLY be a 1B. Last time I checked 1B > DH only. Almost feels like a Dodgers organizational bias, “Dodgers be good. Dodgers be smart. Dodgers had him at C so he must be improving. All star type bat!” Then why did they trade him? Shut up you!

Painter who hasnt pitched in two years over Jobe.

Sorry to rant!

But to make it up to you I have a Torkelson quote from the Detroit Free press which im sure will have everyone eager to draft him.

I read a rumor somewhere that the Dodgers were plugging in guys who had little chance to stick in positions to up their trade value. It was some baseball guy or newspaper report but it was just “rumors” and wasnt a reddit post, so so it was semi-legit even if just a rumor.

Basically they have so much depth they didnt/dont have to prioritize how a guy will fit in their organization if they know a guy wont be in the majors with them, they just try to pump his value without screwing up his development curve. Liranzo was never beating out Will Smith, Dalton Rushing, hell they just gave away Deigo Cartaya and he was top 100 a year ago.

Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray and a couple other prospects netted them Scherzer and Turner.

Past 10 years or so hard to see them losing a trade. Oh, I guess Yordan and idk what they got back for him but im sure it wasnt good in comparison.

20 team roto 6×6 with OBP + HLD

Keepers lock tonight. Cody Bradford or Clay Holmes? It sounds like Bradford might start the year in the bullpen and with the Montas injury Holmes should be a lock and is aiming for 160 IP. Whatcha think?

Do you think Bednar gets back on track this year or are you out on him? He should have the opportunity to reclaim the role in spring. Not like they signed anyone. He was so bad last year. Thanks

I saw Devers has “general” shoulder soreness. That’s not good. I had reservations about him this year too.

I also saw he said today that he doesn’t want to DH. He said he plays 3d. True, but he plays 3b not very well. I loked up stats and he’s led the AL in errors at 3b SEVEN (7) years in row.

Definitely will join a pay league, is $20 going to be the highest entry fee or should I hold out for like a $50 or $100 entry? Thank you!

for right now $20 is the highest, there might be an opening in Laura’s $100 league, and i might have an opening in my $25 league, but won’t know for a little bit. we tried some higher ones before and if they don’t fill it’s a pain in the butt, so we tend to play it safe.

Funny how the Razzball champion from 2024 has bragging rights, but cannot get recognized in this article.
I’m sure I could go back to Truss’ article from Oct, but damn Grey give that guy, or gal some props. Who won last year?
