It’s not all bad news that you don’t have Nick Martinez on any teams. If you drafted him instead of Paul Skenes in the 2nd round, your leaguemates would’ve lured you into Patrick’s basement. (Patrick is your leaguemate and the stock broker who keeps trying to get you in his fund, and you’re like, “Patrick, I’ll run it by the missus,” and you never mention it to her, because you know Patrick is an idiot.) Then, once in Patrick’s basement, they would’ve waterboarded you until you admitted you were a time traveler or a witch for drafting Nick Martinez instead of Skenes. Yesterday, Nick Martinez went 6 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, zero walks, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.93, and he might have the most hilariously awful peripherals anyone’s ever seen — . 5.3 K/9, 1.3 BB/9, 4.50 xFIP. Is this 1976 with those strikeouts and is he Doyle Alexander? By the way, I went to look at some old strikeout rates for this reference and Randy Jones won the Cy Young in 1976 with a 2.7 K/9. He threw 315 1/3 IP. I legit just wet myself. From laughing tears, you sicko! I’m still staggering from that strikeout rate. 2.7! Well, Nick Martinez isn’t that bad (good?) but pray the regression never comes. Or maybe pray it does come so you can get released from Patrick’s basement. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Shane McClanahan – 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.10. McClanahanananananananananan’s throws more “an”s at you than pitches, but at least he’s back to making them count.
Brandon Young – 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.50. Streamonator doesn’t like his next one, and I don’t either, so [raspberries lips].
Shane Baz – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.04. Nothing I’d love than to say Bazung and move on, but he was crazy unlucky to give up three earned. So, Bazung with caveats.
Colton Cowser – 2-for-3 and his 12th homer, hitting .219 and now in the eight hole. You’re not an Orioles prospect if you’re not back-sliding.
Logan Henderson – 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.60. Check out Brew being more Rasmussen than Drew. “Student, teacher, teacher, student, who is who?” The young pupil said to his karate instructor and the instructor replied, “You paid me to be here, that makes me the teacher.”
Tyler Mahle – 5 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at Mahle taking the Martin Perez juice, putting it through a Vitamix and distilling it to its pure essence of Vet Who Is Decent. Streamonator loves Mahle’s next start.
Michael Harris II – 1-for-5 and his 21st homer. Megahertz you! You being the Brewers. They’ll get over it.
Ryan Weathers – 3 1/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 3.60, and left with forearm discomfort. Guy Who’s Never Stayed Healthy For Longer Than 86 2/3 IP Still Can’t, news at 11. Followed by the Weathers.
George Lombard Jr. – 2-for-4, 2 runs, hitting .288, and recorded his 4th error. Not sure if it was smart to turn to Volpe to be Lombard’s fielding coach.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer. Ya know what makes Spencer Jones’s contact look so much better? When he’s hitting for a better average than Jazz.
Trent Grisham – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer, hitting .221. Who’s hitting for a better average, Grisham or Jazz? Bzzt–Wait, you got it right? Yes, it’s Grisham.
Carlos Rodon – 4 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 3.15. He threw 10 more pitches yesterday than the start before (76), so maybe he can go five innings by his next start. Lowercase yay!
Cody Bellinger – 1-for-4, 1 run as he was activated from the IL. Just saw Giancarlo suffered another calf strain and this might be it for his bid to 500 homers, and I’m gonna need Cody to spark me up a fatty as I’m depressed.
Dylan Cease – 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners (5 BBs), 8 Ks, ERA at 2.37. If the season ended today, I’d give Dylan Cease the AL Cy because that would make Yankees fans the angriest.
Jose Soriano – 5 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.43. Soriano said after his trade, Vlad Jr. pulled him aside to tell him on the Jays everyone disappoints. Soriano said, “No sweat, I was on the Angels. I can handle that!”
Luis Castillo – 2 2/3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 5.19. White Sox should mess with Castillo by telling him they’re going to piggyback him with Urquidy.
Tristan Peters – 2-for-4 and a slam (9) and legs (7), and 2nd homer in two games. Hot schmotato alert!
Christian Scott – 4 2/3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 3.73. I hate myself for saying it before even saying it but Scott’s underlying numbers look like they might make a nice 2027 sleeper. Pelt me with tomatoes all you want! They do!
Nolan McLean – 6 IP, 0 ER,. 1 hit, 4 BBs, 6 Ks, ERA 3.21. McSizzleLean.
Jonah Cox – 2-for-4 and his 2nd homer. I saw a Tiktok of people trying to name five WNBA players and I was like, “I’m not sexist, I can’t name five WNBA, NBA, NFL, or NHL players, but I can name every MLB player.” That was before I encountered Jonah Cox. Looks like he’s SAGNOF in the LLAMAS pen, i.e., Cox has to get over some humps.
Nick Sogard – 2-for-3, 2 runs, and his 2nd homer, and his 2nd homer in four games. I guess hot schmotato, but holy yawnstipating.
Jake Bennett – 7 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.49. Struggled in the last few weeks, and has moved to a Streamonator call for me now. Yesterday’s matchup was excellent; his next is not.
Michael Soroka – 3 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 3.40, and hit the IL with shoulder inflammation. Ugh, this is the kind of start — at home vs. the Reds — where he even let 2nd Half Elly hit him, and was clearly off from the jump. Couldn’t they have figured out the shoulder issue in the pregame? DBacks said Soroka will be ready as soon as his IL stint is up. Oh…[walks from Maine to Florida]…kay.
Casey Mize – 2 2/3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 3.44, and sprained his ankle slipping down the dugout steps. He couldn’t banana peel himself down the stairs prior to giving up four runs? Hit the Life Alert for the Fallen and Can’t Get Up before taking the mound in the 1st. I got gripes!
Max Muncy – 1-for-4 and his 7th homer, 2nd homer this week. This is Ma’s Muncy and the A’s are going home for a week [wink, wink, nudge, nudge, kazoo] Schmotato!
Hunter Brown – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 10 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.51. Crazy how broke Brown is and no one is sending him for surgery or whatever he needs. Sure, this wasn’t the worst start in the world. Dot dot dot. Until you realize it was vs. the A’s on the road!
Jose Altuve – 1-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 14th homer. He is so done and dusted. Put him out to pasture with the other pygmy goats.
Isaac Paredes – 1-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 17th homer. Remarkable that he has 17 homers, because he has two homers this month, and I can’t remember him being hot at any point this season.
Cristopher Sanchez – 6 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 9 hits, zero walks, 7 Ks, ERA at 2.62. Someone’s trying to get NL Cy votes by saying, “But look at my walk rate!”
Kyle Schwarber – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 39th homer. He had the good fortune of coming in to face Riley O’Brien, who was being Creed’d by heavyweight Drago’s like Edmundo Sosa and Justin Crawford, and Schwarber landed the knockout.
Kyle Leahy – 4 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 3.13, and now on a strict innings limit, so night-night Ma, night-night Pa, night-night fantasy relevance.
Riley O’Brien – 2/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 3.93. Kazaam!
Michael Wacha – 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.49. Should be nicer to Wacha, because he’s pitching perfectly fine for a backend starter. Decent ratios and zippo is fine for the last starter on your fantasy team.
Salvador Perez – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI and his 1st steal. Tigers should’ve never allowed him to get a 89-foot lead.
John Rave – 2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs and a slam (3) and double legs (3, 4), hitting .215. Fun fact! Rave’s bat is a giant glowstick.
Kevin McGonigle – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 14th homer, 2nd homer in a week. Police chief in movies, “McGonigle!”
Fernando Tatis Jr. – 4-for-5, 4 RBIs and a double slam (16, 17) and legs (29), hitting .290. This month: 9 HRs, 18 RBIs, three steals and hitting around .300. Fun The Jewels!
Walker Buehler – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 hits, zero walks, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.63 vs. Bailey Ober – 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.49. This matchup was billed as, “Obuehler? Obuehler. Obuehler? Obuehler.”
Brooks Lee – 1-for-3 and his 20th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. I can’t tell yet if Lee’s having one of those seasons where he’s wildly underrated next year and is a sleeper, even though he’s already broke out this year. Or if it’s one where people are saying next year, “You go ahead and take Cedanne Rafaela in the 8th round, I’ll take Brooks in the 15th round and get better production,” and then he sucks.
Andy Pages – Hit the IL with a hand fracture. Brutal blow, that was Pages’s dog-earing hand. He can be dropped in redrafts. Sidney Poitier voice, “Will they call up Mr. Tibbs?” No, they called up Alek Thomas. Ya know why, right? If they called up Tibbs, then it would be obvious he’s not as good as advertised, and the Marlins won’t give Eury Perez to the Dodgers for him next year.
Tyler Glasnow – Expected back on Tuesday. Oh, wow, the giant Dodgers’ calculator that computes how long a player can pitch to make it to Game 7 of the World Series returned August 25th, huh? Cool.
Edwin Diaz – Should be ready to return on September 2nd when his IL stint is over. Dodgers said, “Yeah, because there was no actual injury.” They also said Tanner Scott would continue to close when Edwin returns.
Tarik Skubal – 7 IP, 3 ER, 6 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 2.91. Okay, now we’re cooking with gas!
Blake Snell – 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.57. Mad about Ohtani and deferred payments? Pfft! Try getting mad about how the Dodgers make up injuries for months just so Snell (Glasnow and Will Smith) would be fresh for the playoffs.
Kade Anderson – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks, as he was called-up. Went over him on Friday in my Kade Anderson fantasy. I would pick him up everywhere.
Randy Arozarena – 1-for-4 and his 20th homer, and 3rd homer in two games. Becomes the 5th player with six consecutive 20/20 seasons. The other four are…? Honestly, I have no idea. Guessing Rickey, Alfonso, and both Bonds. The Rice Bowl singlehandedly won Saturday’s game with two homers and robbing one off Amaya’s bat. Wasn’t as crazy as the home run robbery by Jacob Young yesterday. If you didn’t see it, find it. He ran up a wall like a spider who was a man. Hmm, good idea for a movie.
Bryce Miller – 4 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.12. I said he didn’t seem rosterable anymore last time out. I don’t just say stuff like that to exceed a word count.
Ian Happ – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 5 RBIs and his 22nd homer, and 2nd homer in three games. Well, yeah, he got to face that bum Bryce Miller.
Pete Crow-Armstrong – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and a slam (33) and legs (32). Imma about to start calling him the King of Slam & Legs, which is an incredibly huge honor. In some circles, it’s held in a higher esteem than MVP.
Pedro Ramirez – 3-for-6, 3 runs, 5 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .285, and with Dansby out, Pedro should have a starting job. This year, he has a 12/26 combined Triple-A and majors and hit .312 in the minors and only has a 19.2 K% and what’s not to like?! His playing time was iffy before, but it’s there now and I could see being in on him in all leagues for power, speed and average.
Shota Imanaga – 2 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 3.78. Lucky to not give up a lot more runs, and out after 72 pitches. He goes more hot and cold than a thermostat.
Eury Perez – 5 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners (3 BBs), 4 Ks, ERA at 3.17. I wanna get to “Eury Perez is an ace” so bad, but his K-BB% is just okay, and, when all I really care about is K-BB%, it kinda makes things difficult!
Elias Diaz – 1-for-2, 2 RBIs and his 6th homer. I rarely mention random schmohawks who are irrelevant for us, but I just wanted to say Elias Diaz is one homer behind the Vlad Jr. pace.
Cal Quantrill – 6 IP, 0 ER, 6 hits, zero walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.90. On last week’s podcast, guest host Mike said to grab Quantrill because of the Streamonator and I got off the horn with him and did that and thank you very much! That was a very nice week.
Ezequiel Duran – 1-for-3 and his 14th homer. Made quite a few errors in the preseason, but one of my biggest regrets that only I prolly have is not drafting Ezequiel. I drafted Ezequiel for the last five years in deep leagues because of his position eligibility. In draft and holds, position eligibility helps so much when injuries hit. He’s nearly top 100 on the Player Rater. He wasn’t even drafted in my draft and hold that goes to 750 picks.
Zach Neto – 2-for-5 and his 22nd homer. He’s had a nice week; he has not had the greatest 2nd half.
Ryan Johnson – 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 5.75. Good news is you type “Ryan Jo” into any baseball website’s search and you see Joe Ryan. Bad news is, well, there wasn’t really good news about Ryan Johnson.
Nolan Schanuel – Hit the IL with an oblique injury. Not as oh-bleak as his hitting tool.
Wade Meckler – Hit the IL with a concussion. Angels asked him what his name was, and he said, “Wade Meckler,” and they thought he was Adam Frazier, so they put him in concussion protocol.
Arranda or Lile?
Stott or Meidroth ROS?
Chase
What’s good Grey? Got a 1st round bye for the playoffs in the 12-team shallow keeper league. I get to keep 6 players every year and as of right now, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not one of them (got way better options). My question to you is would you drop Cake Batter for any of the following hitters in a R/HR/RBI/SB/OBP%/SLG% league for the playoffs: Michael Busch, Kyle Stowers or Josh Bell?
Hi to Ted!
Ted says hi! Yeah, Busch
Stowers or Lou Bob?
Need Jac Caglianone insurance
Bob
Thanks
No problem
Carrigg or teoscar?
Carrigg
Who do I drop to activate Stowers? I already have 2 bench bats, but am considering dropping Mize as he has been terrible since the trade to SD.
Thanks!
Here is my team:

1B – Pasquantino
2B – Stewart
3B – Ramirez
SS – Gunnar Henderson

In a 10 team OPS league how woukd you rank these guys next 4 weeks. Cam Smith, Kody Clemens, Colson Montgomery, JJ Bleday, Ian Happ, Zack Gelof, Heirberto Hernandez
Happ, Gelof, Heriberto, Kody
Master are we starting gausman at arizona?
I am not
Who are your favorite 2 of this amorphous blob of mediocrity for the next 5 weeks:
Vinnie P, Paredes, France
not France
George Klassen would you start him against CLEV tonight – thanks for hanging
I am
Good afternoon Sir Grey! SP question as playoffs approach. Full dyno. Have Cease Skenes (yikes) Eury McClanananana Kirby (double yikes) & Melton. Not too high on that list. (MaxM, Yesav and CBurnes on IL & Sloan in ML) I just dropped another guy to move an SP to IL and room for one add.
Soooo I grabbed Painter as it looks as though he is coming back around again. But I just notices Burke coming off waivers. No real fat to cut unless I drop Burnes (held maybe unnecessarily – I know I know lol). Stick with Painter and hope he has a nice stretch here or drop for Burke? Or hope consider cutting ties with Corbin and deal with whatever he does coming back?
Any advise is ‘preciated! Thanks and Cheers~
Those Painter vibes have Rage Against the Machine jammin in my head I think!
Haha
I’d go Burke over Corbin
Cool – I think you are brilliant! I scratched my head here waitin’ for your reply thinking why not. Had a low IL season until now so he is what he is! Now… If he comes back and does well then so be it! Got good vibes fo this year! Thanks my man!!! Take care~~~~
Haha, No problem
Marsee or Carrigg ROS?
Carrigg
10 team 6×6 league (with OPS & QS) – who do I drop to activate Glasnow?

thanks Grey, thats who I was leaning towards – crazy as he was my 1st pitcher drafted but here we are…
Ha, yup
Hello Grey. That is some strikeout rate by Randy Jones. Very good stuff.
So I am looking to add the other Jones (Spencer) to my Team (Yahoo 10 Team H2H Points League), and I was wondering which Pitcher to launch – Boyd, Melton or Jax. Thinking Boyd, but would like your opinion.
My team that started with the pitching trio of Sanchez, Fried and Ohtani came out of the gate en fuego, but now they are just a touch different…as in crummy – HA! Sanchez has been so shaky lately.
Thanks much Grey.
Boyd
Ha, No problem
Afternoon & Happy National Waffle Day!
mmmmm…. waffles…. Sorry, got distracted.
Anyway, my team seems to be crumbling with golden flakey goodness… wait no, they’re just crumbling with injuries and I’m waffling on whether it’s worth holding or cutting.
Would you hold or toss back in the FA garbage bin
Thanks as always!
Haha, the 1st three seem droppable…Cruz is a closer, but there’s no opps
Thanks as always!
Just came across the wire that Fairbanks left with the trainer… Faucher = immediate add?
Would you cut Christian Scott or Tyler Mahle for a speculative closer in Faucher?
thanks again!
Yeah faucher…cut Scott
thank you sir!
Need some pitching advice in my semi-final matchup. H2H playoffs. Start 4 starters for the week:
Currently in my lineup:

Logan Henderson vsTEX(Bradford)
Eury Perez @WAS(Kent)
Payton Tolle @MIA(TBA)
Bench: DeGrom and McLean are my strongest alternatives.
Kade Anderson @TOR(Cease)
Emerson Hancock vsPHI(Luzardo)
Nolan McLean vsHOU(Pfaadt)

Troy Melton vs TB(Peralta)
Jacob DeGrom @CHW(Kay)
2nd League, Same format but pitchers are locked for two week barring injury

hancock
Kyle Harrison
Clay Holmes
Troy Melton
Will Warren
Kade
McLean over Eury
2. seems fine
3. I wouldn’t start Gausman anywhere…I don’t know the bench matchups
A. Rodon probably would have come out for the 5th inning if the Lombard’s error hadn’t added a lot of extra pitches.
B. At all-star break I traded Guerrero for Tatis in H2H league, and yesterday Tatis single-handedly won the weekly H2H matchup vs. the manager I got him from. Sweet.
C. Still kicking myself for drafting Rooker over PCA in 2 leagues (even more so since I am a Cubs fan). In many mock drafts I took PCA for steals. D’oh!
A. yes B. Ha, nice C. I went Rooker too, I liked him, sigh
Not getting a 5th inning and possible win out of Rodon cost me a H2H matchup and knocked me out of making the playoffs.
Well that and some ice cold hitting besides Tatis.
Damn
Happy Monday Grey,
Last H2H matchup, and if I win I get in to the playoffs. Need to have a good week and avoid blowups like May and O’Brien last week!
Among these starts, which two would you sit?
Tolle @MIA
Mahle vs COL
Perez vs COL
Kremer vs CHW
Harrison @NYM
Scott vs HOU
Add in Painter @LAA, and then would need to sit three.
Sit Painter
Kremer, Scott
Hi Grey – Jac Cags is DTD but if healthy I’d go with him in our last week before playoffs. Would you roll with Jac or sub in Max Muncy (LAD)?
Thanks!
LG
Muncy
Hi Grey, do we think Bregman’s recent explosion means he’s back for real, or is this the last chance to get value out of him on dynasty? Got offered Shane Baz plus a 2nd FYPD rounder for him
Dead cat bounce, last chance
Hi Grey,
I appreciated your honesty about skipping starts by Scott, Rodgers, Mahle and Sasaki since I have to watch my innings.
On the wire is Alverez and his start at home vs. CO.
1. Would you feel confident to pick up Alberez for this start?
2. Of yes, who would you cut from Scott, Rodgers., Mahle, Framber Valdez or Sasaki?
3. Would you pick up Griffin Jax?
4. If yes, who would you drop from Scott, Rodgers, Mahle, Valdez or Sasaki?
Thanks so much!!
1. Sure 2. Rogers 3. nah
Thanks!
Your help is very much appreciated!!
No problem
Are there any difference-making speed demons that you know of scheduled for promotion RoS?
Jonah Cox?
Thanks, Grey. I’ll check him out
No problem
Pick one of three for the week: Adell (three revenge games at Anaheim, though he didn’t hit well in that stadium), Grisham (7 home games), or Lawrence Butler (6 home games w/5 vs. righties)
Could start 2 but would have to bench Acuna..
All seem good…grisham
With catcher would you roll with Jeffers, Salvy, torrens or gasper?
Jeffers
If will smith comes back this week would you drop Jeffers for him?
Yes
Flags fly forever but do I drop Max Clark ($10 next year) for a pitcher streaming spot heading into the playoffs?
I don’t know anything about your league, maybe
12 tm obp/qs with 25% annual keeper cost inflation
for those of us with lineups locking today, do you think Imanaga gets a start this week? thanks!
I don’t know why he wouldn’t, because they’re annoyed with his short outing?
i saw some stuff about letting him rest (can’t find it now when looking for the link). thanks!
No problem
Happy Monday Grey!
Thanks again for the advice over the weekend.
Bryce Miller admits he’s been dealing with a lat issue for a month he hasn’t told anyone about. For anyone who was still holding out hope despite the recent crap numbers, this should be the final straw.
Have a great week!
Yup!
I get 5 adds a week. I’m barely hanging on to 6th place in a 12-team H2H.
I’m ready to drop any or all of Bennett, Bell, Conine, and even Vlad (if you catch me on the wrong day). Which of these guys would you be willing to bet the next two weeks (or ROS) on?
FA Hitters: Arenado, Ja.Young, McNeil, Spe.Jones, Tawa
FA Pitchers: Gore, May, M.Montgomery
Montgomery, McNeil, Jones
@Grey: weekly roto, only need ks and wins for pitching. need to start 2 of these guys, who do you “like”?
andrew alvarez – vs col, vs mia
zach thornton – vs mil, vs hou
nola – @ sea
thanks!
Alvarez
Thanks…need to start two, so who between Thornton and Nola as well?
Thornton
Never start Nola, it’s always the other guy.
Because 1 of his last 9 starts was bad?
@Grey: weekly roto. who do you like at 1b this week?
naylor – 3 vs phi, 3 @ tor
lugaju – 3 vs hou, 4 vs bos (likely facing 3 or 4 lefties)
pasquantino – 3 @ tor, 3 @ cle
thanks!
Vinnie
6×6 (OPS). h2h. 14 team playoffs.
Need to start 3 of these 5 guys in UTIL spot this week:
Spencer Jones – 7 games (3 v HOU, 4 v BOS)
Dylan Crews – 7 games (4 vs COL, 3 v MIA)
Matt McClain – 6 games (3 @ SF, 3 @ PIT)
Josh Baez – 6 games (3 v BAL, 3 v PIT)
Lou Bob Jr – 6 games, (3 v MIL, 3 v HOU). For sure will sit at least 1
Looking for overall best 6×6 lines possible. Don’t need “category specific”.
Appreciate it. Thx for hard work.
Spencer Jones – 7 games (3 v HOU, 4 v BOS)
Dylan Crews – 7 games (4 vs COL, 3 v MIA)
Baez
Thoughts on Carrigg ROS? They are batting him 2nd or 3rd every day, but COL lineup is a dishrag especially without Goodman. At least McCarthy is on base a ton in front of him?
Meh, he seems fine for most mixed leagues, not ideal in road games tho
Tawa (3vCHC, 4@SF) or Lindor (3vMIL, 3vHOU) this week?
Overthinking it?
Lindor
Pygmy goats. Hahaha. That’s great.
E. Duran has been very solid. He really likes hitting at home, which surprises me. That’s not a great place to hit. His last 8 HRs have come at home.
Yeah, totally!
In the POs and I’m on a bye. Need some power tho!
Stowers or Conine? I’d be dropping Sal Perez
Stowers
Hi Grey,
Of the following which pitchers would you confidently start?
1. Sasaki at Atlanta
2. Christian Scott at home vs Houston
3. Mahle at LAA
4. Trevor Rodgers at SLouis
Your help last week was invaluable!
Martin
I wouldn’t confidently start any
Hi Grey — thank you for doing what you do! I’ve gotta pick two of Mickey Moniak, Vlad Jr., Joshua Baez, or Brandon Marsh for the upcoming week. (12 team roto and I could use a batting average bump.) What do you think?
I don’t know their matchups
Sorry, I suppose that would be helpful info to provide! Thanks again.
Moniak — @WAS, @ATL
Vlad Jr. — KC, SEA
Baez — BAL, PIT
Marsh — @SEA, @LAA
Moniak, Baez
Muchas gracias, señor!
No problemo
Is there a Razz term for a guy who should probably be rostered but you’re constantly hoping he gets hurt so you can drop him guilt-free? That’s been Bradish all year for me.
Haha, not yet!
Put it to the commenters! I’ve been noodling but haven’t hit on anything yet
Hey Grey! Drop Jung ho Lee for tawa? 14 team head to head keeper league that scores R, HR, RBI, SB, K, OBP, SLG
Sure
Sit 2 this week for H2h playoffs (with QS):
Trevor Rogers @ StL
Bradish @ StL
Woo (unclear if he is actually injured or not)
Mahle vs Col
Kade Anderson @ Tor
Woo, Bradish
Woo said he’s “100% confident” he will start Wed vs Phils. Still sit over Kade, Mahle, and Rogers?
Guess start him over Rogers
Lindor or Neto for first playoff game?
Neto
Shanks!
No problem
10 team H2H points keeper league
Playoffs this week. Is it crazy to drop Lindor in order to stream pitchers this week?
Hate to drop him but he would be on my bench otherwise.
Sounds fine
Pedro Martinez or Tommy Edman?
Should be Pedro Ramirez lol
I’d try Ramirez if you have room for upside
Would you stream Klassen in 12 teamer home vs guardians?
I am
The 20/20 guys were Bonds, Bonds, Bobby Abreu and Willie Mays. I was surprised Alfonso didn’t do it so I looked him up. He almost had it, but in the middle of a 6 year run he had an 18 steal season, so only two away.
He followed that 6-year run with a pair of 20+/19 seasons.
So four more steals and he would’ve gone 20/20 eight years straight!
Interesting! I guessed, as I said, but figured I was pretty close…Abreu I did not remember at all
It was a good guess! I probably would’ve named a hundred guys before thinking of Abreu. I remember loving him on my teams but no idea he was in that club
Good morning, Grey:
Baseball is funny, isnt it? Just when you think you have it all figured out, the Baseball gods rip the carpet from underneath you.
I thought I was set. I had Henderson, Weathers, Soroka, and the new shiny Kade Anderson starting on Saturday. I was P-U-M-P-E-D!
I dont even need to tell you how bad Soroka and Weathers messed that up. damn.
well, now I’m in the last week before playoffs and down 2 SP’s
Messick was picked up already as he was on my shortlist. Now I dont have a shortlist.
(H2H 10 tm ESPN redraft)
Current SP’s Henderson, Kade Anderson, Burns, Ashcraft, Tolle, Detmers, Eovaldi (IL), Soroka (IL), Weathers (IL)
1) Since I missed Messick, who is on your shortlist of possible waiver pickups that look good under the hood?
2) Is Eovaldi a keeper when he comes back (due today)? (I was gonna drop him bc Soroka was better)
3) Is answer in #1 better than Jones? Holmes? Perez? Nola? I need 2 SP’s depending on your response to #1 and #2.
THANKS!
It’s the funniest sport, I think….1. Out of who? 2. I doubt he’s a keeper in a 10 teamer 3. Are these the SPs available? I’m so confused
lol. So sorry.. I should be more concise.
I am lookong to replace Soroka and Weathers.
I can keep Eovaldi and replace 1 slot, otherwise I need to replace 2
Jones, Holmes, Perez, Nola are all available, or anyone else you think?
I’d look at matchups…I guess Holmes has been best so far
ok. thank you.
No problem
Grey,
need to sit one in a pts league:
Luzardo @Sea
Sale LAD
Williams @LAA
Sale
I’d start Luz and Williams
Grey, championship week in my H2H points league. We have a week long scoring period. I get to start 6 starting pitchers. Which 6 starts out of this group are you starting?

Framber Valdez DET TB D Rasmussen(R) $4.7
Kyle Harrison MIL @NYM Z Thornton(L) $7.8

Framber Valdez DET LAD T Glasnow(R) $6
Thanks for all the advice. Love this site.
Luz, Cade x 2, Harrison, Mahle, Ashcraft @ STL
Just 3 points behind the leader for my first championship in this particular league.
Need some W’s without blowing up ratios to pass the leader.
Who would you start this week
1. Rogers @ STL
2. Eduardo Rodriguez at home against the Cubs.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
EdRod
Last week of my season, I’m hanging on to the last playoff spot. I have a choice of Griffin home vs KC or King at home vs Pirates (Skenes) if that even matters. Griffin threw 47 pitches in the 2nd inning yesterday. Never heard of that in my life, but he got through 5. I know you don’t like King that much, but he is good at home. This league give 10 pts for a win. Id start em both, but I have Rass, Cole, Sale and Snell plus Varland. BTW Sale gets Yamomoto. Thats means his last 3 starts will have been Cole, Miz and now this guy. Id almost consider sitting Sale vs the Dodgers considering who he faces, not so much the lineup but the pitcher. Any chance you’d go that route? Sit Sale and start King and Griffin? This is just about points. A win is 10 a loss is -3. Thanks in advance.
Start King, Sale
Speaking of mismanaging, I was watching Jackson Kent pitching for then Nats. He Ks the first two batters in the 5th, then issues a walk. He gets a mound visit for that? Probably throws off his rhythm, he gives up a weak single to the next guy and is pulled. Naturally the next man up allows both runners to score. You hate to see managers hose a promising young pitcher like that.
Yeah, I hear ya
I want to like A’s hitters…but it really does seem no one is a complete hitter outside 1 guy.
I find all their hitters are awful outside Las Vegas. I was really honing in on Gelof this week to see if he’s can hit on the road, he can’t.
Same with Lawrence Butler, but also Lawrence is awful with his L/R splits….equally low against both so maybe not a splits issue, but a general hit tool issue. But he’s also terrible, on the road like Gelof.
Just unplayable on the road.
Yeah, rough sledding on the road…not only one guy tho…Langeliers, Kurtz, Soderstrom are complete hitters
Oh, and Wilson is a .300 hitter
Did Riley O’Brien have the biggest Kazaam ever?!?
Ha, it was so brutal
I have him everywhere, the urge to rage drop was strong, at one point in the game, I saw his ERA at 81.00 and was like WTF
Haha, yeah, brutal
NETO was awful coming out of the all-star break but…..
It just shows how one very white hot week, now changes the perception on his 2nd half. I think he’s hitting .254 since the all-star break, but his numbers were really propelled by this hot stretch of 1 week or so.
If we look back at it end of the season at the stats, no way we would realize he was awful for 3 weeks.
Yeah
Hi Grey,
Thanks for all the great advice! It is a joy to read your column daily!
Weekly H2H Cats incl QS 10 teams
Need to start 2 of these 4:
Gausman @Ari Cin
Imanaga Cin
Shane McLanahan SD
Eury @Was
Thanks!
Baseball Junkie
Thanks! Eury, Shane
Was sad to turn Leahy’s spot into a streamer now (tear emoji).
This week- start martinez vs surging SD or Imanaga vs flopping CIN?
12 team auction keeper, keep as many as you want with $5 annual inflation.
Traded my $8 Pages for $55 Witt and $55 Soto. Clearly if I win it’s all worth it, but if I come up short this year how long do I regret this trade for?
Also just saw Lauer shifting to bullpen to backup Shohei’s starts. Does he get any value for the potential vulture wins?
Yeah, could see it
Nick Martinez…Forget the trade
Hey Grey! I made it to the playoffs in my HtH points league. With Woods on the IL, been juggling players in and out of my outfield. Pick your top 2 this week out of:
Chandler Simpson (SD, @ Det)
Spencer Jones (Hou, Bos all home games)
Ezequiel (all away vs CHW and MIL)
several OAK options which are all home games this week vs MIN and BAL. Butler, Gelof, Cortes, Bolte all available.
Been sticking with Chandler for the last few weeks despite his lack of power, he gets on base and doesnt hurt me with K’s, but sits occasionally vs lefties and the Rays are facing 2 this week.
Also wondering if you’d use 2-start Libertore (at home both times vs BAL and PIT) over Hancock @ PHIL or Trevor Rogers @ STL
Thanks for the help!
Jones, Bolte — Lib over Hancock
Jones has 3 RHP then 4 LHP. I’m confused about his usage until Judge is back, hopefully this will clear it up a little.
4 LHP doesn’t sound great
Would you go Adell over Jones?
Yes
How about Stowers over Jones?
Sure
Thanks
No problem
Randy Jones used to have a liqour store my parents shopped at. Apparently, like the hair club guy, he wasn’t just the owner.
Before too long they’ll just give the cy young to the guy who can get through a full season without a tj.
Hahaha, true on the Cy
Notice the lack of any blurbs for 2nd half megastar Julio Rodriguez? At this point I’m flipping a coin between the oft injured Luis Robert and the disappointing Julio, who seems to have escaped the wrath of the fantasy gods. No such luck for Vlad, Raleigh and others similarly situated. If Julio is a notorious 2nd half juggernaut and merely replacement level 1st half meh kind of player, where does he go in next years draft?
Julio chases the slider. He can’t not. He doesn’t see it. Swings at so many non competetive sliders away.
Beginning to wonder if LuBob isn’t a better option at this point. Julio apparently didn’t get the memo about the 2nd half beginning a month+ ago. If Mr 2nd half extraordinaire is performing like this in the 2nd half ( Week 20 , 2/26 1 RBI.) and his first half is generally meh, is he even worth the roster spot?
Maybe that’s what it is…was he bad on the slider in previous years…i could look it up, but lazy
Maybe he needs to see an eye doctor.
JRod looks awful in his at-bats…Brutal, not sure what happened…He has been positive for the last 30 days, and Cal and Vlad are -19 and -15
Thanks Grey for the yearly articles and feedback.
Just grabbed regular season top bye and setting up for the my first week with the moves I have.
1. So I’ve had will smith on my bench but Kirk has been filling in great. What to do when Smith back? Don’t want to hold both.
2. Worth adding Diaz as my league counts holds and saves separate or just stay away?
3. I had Quantril and Buehler this past week who were great streams. Don’t know matchups for them in two weeks, but hold either or both of them for now or drop one for one of Mahle or Vasquez?
Lose Kirk 2. Stay away 3. I’d look at matchups, I know mahle’s is good
Hey Grey,
I have two decisions to make this week for the lineup:
Vinnie P. for 6 away games OR Mickey M. for 7 away games at my UTL.
And for SP:
G. Kirby vs Phi at home
OR K. Bradish @ STL
Thanks!
Moniak
Kirby
Grey!!
Love you, man. Great write-up.
Hicks
France
McLain
Lawlar
Genao
Sanoja
Rengifo
Ortiz, Baez, Bleday, Jones, Lara
Schwarber
Bench Abrams
IL Konnor Griffin
SP Kade Anderson, Bello, Bieber, Cameron, Henderson, Jobe, Pfaadt, Quantrill, Sasaki
RP Chapman Duran
Looking at the last 5 weeks, Jobe is statistically my worst pitcher. Next after him are Bieber, Sasaki and Duran though Bieber has turned a corner that I will see through to at least his start in Cleveland against his former team. Duran got touched for a couple runs that hurt his score but I am never removing him.
So, my question. I’ve moved up from 11th in pitching to 9th with 7th place in my sight, making up ground by adding well-studied streamers like Cameron, Bieber and Quantrill who are giving me large volume quality pitching. Should I continue down that road by dropping Jobe or hold on dropping Jobe? Jobe’s next two starts are
August 26 Rays @ Detroit
September 1 Detroit @ Minnesota
Cheers,
Ante
Ante! I don’t know Cameron’s matchups, but he’s been great for a month plus…Cameron over Jobe
Raylan Givens must have clocked Wade Meckler on the head one too many times…
Who’s your pick for wins and ratios this week?
Gaus @arz and v cin (two of the lowest teams v Rhp but he’s been rough lately)
Taj @atl
Foster V KC
Thanks!
Haha — Foster
