Late Saturday night, the Red Sox traded Connelly Early to the Nats for Curtis Mead. Check out Curtis Mead’s trade tree: Curtis Mead was traded from the Phils to the Rays for Cristopher Sanchez. Oofa! Who says the Rays always get the best side of a trade? Next up, Mead went to the White Sox for Adrian Houser, then onto the Nats for Boston. Um, Boston Smith, a catcher. That makes Mead the first player to be traded for Boston, then to Boston. I think. I could confirm it if the Elias Sports Bureau would pick up their gee-dee phone! So, this trade is a bit of an optical illusion. It changes, depending on how you look at it. On one hand, you can look at as Early was a huge prospect just three months ago, and Mead only has three decent months of hitting with the Red Sox’s Breslow saying, “We’ve won all these games recently…What can I do to mess it up?” Call him Craig “Weird Flex” Breslow. On the other hand, you can look at it as Early’s elbow is mush and they’re just getting something for him. Plus, Mead did have prospect pedigree not that long ago, and is seemingly breaking out. On a third hand that is Hamburger Helper dry-humping a mop, who cares, we’re here for fantasy. This is a boost for Curtis Mead and I already liked him a lot. He heads to a way better park, and the Red Sox say he’s going to play 2nd base. Sorry, Anthony Seigler, but in fairness I just thought you were a Jewish mobster. For Connelly Early? This does nothing for his value this year, because he’s injured, and I didn’t love him to begin with this year, due to underlying peripherals. Hopefully, Early is better than that prospect who never amounted to anything, Lattner Evers. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Foster Griffin – 6 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 2.76. This is how you go from a Streamonator call to a “I don’t need no stinkin’ robot I’m starting this guy every time out” call.
CJ Abrams – 3-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 26th and 27th homer. This year Corange became in-his-prime Betts.
James Wood – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 29th and 30th homer. Almost don’t even wanna mention it. Not trying to jinx him into a post-All-Star fade. You ain’t a barber and I can’t take a fading.
Brady House – 2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, as he was recalled with the Mead trade. So far, he seems like a Quad-A player, but he hasn’t had that many opps. So, opps opps away!
Ketel Marte – 1-for-5 and his 19th homer. Look again at what Corange is doing for power vs. Ketel. I know, I know, but his average. You’re right, Corange’s average is almost 40 points higher (.297 vs. .254).
Geraldo Perdomo – 1-for-2, 2 runs and his 8th homer, hitting .233. I was out bigly on Perdomo this year, but I have to admit even I didn’t expect him to struggle to hit for average. That felt like his one safe stat. Oops.
Shea Langeliers – Out for the season with a torn meniscus. This reminds me on Hell’s Kitchen when Gordon Ramsay says, “F**k me? How about f**k you?”
Jonah Heim – 0-for-4 and hit third (the ol’ set it and forget of lineup managing). Heim will start with Shea Banged-up-aliers (not forced, very natural).
Dallas Keuchel – Signed a minor league deal with the A’s. Think that just about wraps up their playoff rotation. Sadly, it’s for the 2015 playoffs.
Nick Kurtz – 1-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 21st homer as he was activated from the IL on Saturday. Kevin from ESPN’s “Get Him In Your Lineup” Department said, “If a car is cherry red, why doesn’t it taste like cherries?”
Connor Prielipp – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.73. Let’s just say when I saw this start, I looked to see how good the A’s hitting is in road games. They’re 29th in the majors in wOBA.
Joe Ryan – Dealing with arm fatigue. It’s pronounced fay-tee-gay. It’s Italian.
Manny Machado – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 23rd homer, hitting .210. Yes, he’s been on fire since I told you to buy him.
Jackson Merrill – 2-for-4 and his 15th homer, and 3rd homer this week. With the worst Jamaican accent, “Ja-Me, Ja-Me, I wanna Ja-Me wid you!”
Kyle Stowers – 2-for-4 and his 13th homer. Picked up Stowers in one league about two weeks and, well, you ever watch paint dry?
Carson Whisenhunt – 5 IP, 4 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 4.60. Giants started him as a way of saying, “We’re open for business, maybe you trade for this guy and make something of him, like you did with Kyle Harrison.”
Jo Adell – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 16th homer. Told you to buy him, too. In addition to Manny, is what I’m saying. C’mon, keep up!
Jorge Soler – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer. Hasn’t done much recently, but Soler is the type to get hotter than the sun (also where he gets his power).
Spencer Arrighetti – Hit the IL with foot nerve irritation. That foot’s got some nerve! [giant cane emerges and I dodge left and run out the backdoor]
Jeremy Pena – 2-for-4 and his 10th and 11th homer, five homers this month, hitting over .400 and I’m gonna be in again next year. No way am I letting this year deflate any enthusiasm. I had those lessons, and I learned them.
Munetaka Murakami – 3-for-5, 3 runs, 6 RBIs and his 21st and 22nd homer. Hold up, Okamoto, you are not the milk bread toast of MLB just yet.
Miguel Vargas – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 22nd homer. Also, in this game, Chase Meidroth (1-for-3, 2 runs) hit his 8th homer. Vargas is good, Meidroth has been hot (.360-ish in last two weeks). Vargas is rostered, but catch Meidroth.
Juan Soto – Hit the IL with a calf strain. Mets are like Michelle Pfeiffer’s womb in Scarface — polluted!
Tyrone Taylor -1-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 8th homer, 2nd homer in his last six. Considered picking him up in an NL-Only, when Soto went down, but Taylor seems to be in a strict LLAMAS platoon.
Freddy Peralta – 4 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 4.99. No foolsies when I say, FreddyKBB’s season alone should have the Mets’ pitching coach fired.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto – 6 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.72 vs. Nolan McLean – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 7Ks, ERA at 3.32. This matchup was billed as, “Yoshinolan YamaMcLean.” I over-portmanteaued, didn’t it? Goshammit!
Emmet Sheehan – 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.95. How bad are the Mets right now? Sheehan’s pitching well vs. them. (I know the Mets won yesterday, but c’mon. At least be honest with yourself, Mets fans.)
Salvador Perez – 0-for-3, but his 15th homer on Saturday (four homers since ASB). This home run by Perez beat George Brett for the all-time Royals’ record. George Brett still holds the Royals’ record for most times one has shit their pants in a game (1).
Lane Thomas – 1-for-4 and his 10th homer. He was in Friday’s Buy. No Lame Thomas, only Lane.
Casey Mize – 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 hits, zero walks, 3 Ks, ERA at 2.70. Here’s one example of a guy who I’m gonna be saying next year, “He’s an easy number two, and he’s being under-drafted,” and people will be like, “Meh,” and I’ll be like, “He had a sub-3 ERA into August last year, are you crazy?” And you’ll be like [rotates both index fingers by nipples] And I’ll be like, “It’s a rotating index finger by your head to indicate crazy. Not your nipples.”
Sean Burke – 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 3.19. I hate the expression “he shoved,” but Burke kinda shoved.
Hunter Brown – 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, zero walks, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.45. Feel like I’m dealing with a ticking time bomb. Just let me get to October without anyone snipping the red wire. Or does that diffuse the bomb and that’s good? I don’t know, man, this is not Hurt Locker and I’m not Jeremy Renner!
Shota Imanaga – 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.72. This guy is a machine of “pushing his ERA up to the point where you’re unsure if it’s worth holding him, then correcting the mess.”
Seiya Suzuki – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer, 3rd homer this week. Happy to see Seiya isn’t 1st or 2nd half hitter, but a “gets injured a decent amount but is good when he’s healthy” hitter.
Paul Skenes – 5 1/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.65. Might have to institute a boxer’s type rule here and disallow sex during the season. A’la Mickey, “You got weak knees, Skenes!”
Braxton Ashcraft – 6 IP, 4 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.05. Don’t have him in any league (though, I do like him), and it’s unfortunate he has a 4+ ERA, because that’s not an indication of how good he is/has been. With that said, sleeper next year? Huh?!
Esmerlyn Valdez – 2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 14th homer in 37 games. The GGOATOAT has risen! (At least I know this spell I bought from a 114-year-old Asian man works.)
Ryan O’Hearn – 1-for-2, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and his 17th homer. My kingdom for O’Hearn instead of Vlad Jr.
Brandon Young – 6 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.13. Example number 76,716,890 that there’s starters you don’t even realize are doing as well as they are unless you roster them.
Bryce Elder – 5 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 3.96. Have him in a few leagues and I just keep benching him and I’m not even sure if I should be regretting it.
Reynaldo Lopez – 5 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, ERA at 3.64. You know I like him, but he had the O’s who suck, so let me instead ask, is Jackson Holliday a nepo baby?
Pete Alonso – 2-for-4 and his 22nd homer. Albombso!
Robert Gasser – 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 hits, zero walks, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.71. Find it so amusing that other teams are like, “We got this kid called Zebby Matthews, and he’s gonna be great” and he’s turd soup. Then the Brewers are like, “Watch us make a great starter out of this beer mug.”
Lance McCullers Jr. – Designated for assignment. Brewers said, “If we can’t fix you in three days, we have no time for you.”
Jacob Misiorowski – 5 IP, 1 ER, 1 hit, zero walks, 12 Ks, ERA at 1.58. He has a Year of the Pitcher-type line. You know what’s narkin futs? He’s going to win the Cy Young as a 5-inning pitcher.
Andrew Vaughn – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 4th homer, hitting .308. Keep saying the same thing for Vaughn: He’s hitting much better than the lack of power shows. A show-er, not a grower (of distance), perhaps.
Cole Carrigg – 1-for-4 and his 5th homer. Someone tried to trade me for Carrigg in my keeper league, and: .360 OBP, as a rookie, has me holding.
Bryan Woo – 5 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 4.37. Not for nothing, but I told you to sell him when his ERA was at 3.44. At the time, people were like, “Boo!” Not as in Woo being bad, but as in booing me.
Dominic Canzone – 3-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 16th homer. Don’t let me get in my Canzone, don’t let me get in my Canzone, don’t let me get in my Canzone. (The Jay Z part.)
Randy Arozarena – 3-for-5 and his 12th homer. The Rice Bowl was a Sell a couple weeks ago, and not to only take victory laps here (I’m sure one of you will keep me honest with a guy I’m missing), but Rice has been pretty meh in July.
Ryan Weathers – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 4.25. Had the transaction all queued up for Sunday. Was about to drop him, then he goes and does this on Saturday. Now what do I do? Is he out of the woods? Was he in the woods? If he’s in New York, was he in the Pine Barrens? Really don’t know what to do now, but I don’t think I can drop him, if that’s at all helpful (it’s not).
Cody Bellinger – Hit the IL with a strained hamstring. In perfectly stoned fashion, he did agility drills after hitting the IL. (No joke, he actually did.)
Ben Rice – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 31st homer. Rice-a-HRoni!
Will Warren – 3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.41. Kinda got done in by a terrible play in left, but also kinda got done by pitching terrible. Six of one, I guess. Well, six of the earned runs, specifically.
Bryson Stott – 3-for-4, 5 RBIs and his 8th homer. Stott’s entertainment!
Nick Martinez – 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 hits, zero walks, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.45. Just have a sub-2 ERA already and stop mocking me!
Drew Rasmussen – 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 1 walk, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.07. I love this guy. Most unheralded pitcher in baseball or nah? He’s a top 20 starter on the Player Rater, and no one cares.
Parker Messick – 7 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 hits, zero walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.59. He’s at 125 1/3 IP and he threw 139 1/3 IP last year. That gets him through August, but, if you’re in a H2H with September playoffs, you’ve been served (with info).
Hunter Greene – 5 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 7.06. So, he’s not healthy, right? Can we just shut him down? Do we have to pretend everything’s okay?
Elly De La Cruz – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 18th homer. Is there somewhere I can bet E! will be the top guy on the Player Rater one year. Not sure about next, but at some point. Polymarket want that action? I ain’t think so!
Andrew Abbott – 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.85 vs. Kyle Leahy – 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.55. Good matchup to highlight how the guy you know may be worse than the guy you don’t know. Leahy is better than Abbott, and it’s not super close. (I say ‘know’ because Abbott’s rostered in 72% of leagues and Leahy in 42%.)
Ivan Herrera – 2-for-5 and his 12th homer. This feels like a learning curve year. Like we’re Sputnik up in here, and next year: To the moon, Ivan!
Andre Pallante – 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 3.77. Streamonator hates his next one, and I can’t say I trust him much.
Dylan Cease – 9 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 3 walks, 12 Ks, ERA at 2.46. I know this impression! Great pitcher on terrible team…Damn, can’t believe it took me that long to realize it, he’s doing the “deGrom on the Mets.” Good luck breaking ten wins with your possible Cy Young year!
Kevin Gausman – 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 4.51. I’m discounting this start a little because of how bad the Red Sox looked this weekend (before Mead, of course). Therefore, ergo, vis-à-vis, still not sure Gausman is out of the woods, but his peripherals are not as bad as you think. Look at me reading your mind.
Sonny Gray – 5 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 2.78. Giving me Gray hairs!
Ranger Suarez – 4 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 3.02 as he was activated from the IL. Saw a note about Red Sox manager Chad Tracy saying some shizz and it reminded me: How dumb does Alex Cora look now? Bro drove the Red Sox into the cellar, then Chad is like, “They ain’t gonna be hanging me.”
Can you pick 1 QS league
Wacha,Rogers or Thornton
Thanks for making Albies your Sell in Friday’s (or does it count as Wednesday’s?) column, Grey, not sure anything else would have gotten him going again.
Haha
That wasn’t very good, Keider.
Awful
Master in a 12 team league cats are runs homers rbi stolen bases avg OBP SLG% how would you rank t ward, jacob wilson, canzone, gelof, durbin. Do you think t ward picks it up with the homers he’s around a top 30 OF on the rest of season player rater.
Canzone, Wilson, Ward
Nope
Early… err Grey,
Am I crazy for considering trading Skenes away for offense help? My pitching has been incredible but my offense is scuffling and I just lost Dongeliers.
Looking at the bottom feeders it looks like a strong 1B would be pretty attainable (I can move Ben Rice to C). Specifically Freeman or Willson Contreras. I’m in a 6×6 OPS/QS league.
The rest of my pitching consists of Cease, MacLean, Greene, Boyd, Bieber, Messick, Sandy A, Detmers and Soroka (IL). It’s a limited keeper so I won’t be able to keep everyone even if I hold Skenes.
My brain keeps telling me I’m insane to want to trade Skenes, but I’ve already traded my top 3 round picks next year (to get Skenes, Rice, PCA at different points) so it’s going to take a name to get reinforcements.
Long winded way of asking if I should just tread water with waiver guys (I moved Miguel Vargas to 1B and picked up Joey Ortiz for 3B) – where I can stream and just hold with my staff – or try to bolster my team with my most valuable (in name) asset.
Depends what you’re getting, sounds like your pitching is fine without him
Bellinger out 4-6 weeks. Is he a drop in 12 teamers?
Sure
Hi Grey,
Would you offer Bauers, Henderson plus Tolle for CJ Abrams?
Thanks!
Sure
No one will do that.
Please rank. Position doesn’t matter. This would be for UTIL/bench bats in a 12 team pts league:
Ward
Antonacci
Rocchio
CES
X Edwards
Edwards, Ward, Antonacci
Grey,
who are your Top 3 ros pts league?
Boyd, Henderson, Imanaga, JJones, Lambert, Melton
Shota, Boyd, Melton
Hi Grey – Messick or Joshua Baez in a keeper?
Does being a keeper matter? Baez
Jac Cag is on my waiver wire, pick up over either C.Walker, J.Duran, J.Bleday or none of the above?
Over Duran
Can someone explain to me how George Kirby can toss 6 shutout innings one week, then give up 7 ER in 3.1 innings the next?
Insanity
According to Grey’s blurb on Skenes, he’s got a cure for Kirby. The old boxer myth. Now, I’ve never seen Kirby’s partner, but we’ve all seen Skenes. If you haven’t, it’s worth a Google.
Grey must think Skenes has the will power of a monk. Rocky had it easy, Adrian wasn’t a model/gymnast or a gymnast/model.
Let’s find another way. I think even the 5 female readers may agree.
Hey, Adrian had a look
Eye of the beholder…..damnit
All I can think of is Eye of the Tiger now
It’s all coming up Rocky today
You see the trailer for I Am Rocky? It looks unintentionally hilarious
Just watched it, thanks for the laugh
That is very corny
I thought you were going to tell me that Olivia Dunn was in it ;)
Haha, it looks like a train wreck, and I can’t wait to see it
He’s aggressive in the zone and lacks consistent swing and miss stuff.
ugh Kirby
Brutal
Sir Grey Meister,
Thank you, thank you, yes you deserve the second thank you. “Kevin from ESPN’s “Get Him In Your Lineup” Department said, “If a car is cherry red, why doesn’t it taste like cherries?”” I am not sure how you pull these out of your, head. This is why you are the best🤙. Not sure if I should apologize to everyone else…
Mead(1 or 2😁) or Ewing? I have them both but each has been slow this week.
Imai vs Halos, would you drop Seymour for this start?
Thank you for not putting the hex on Woods. Happy Monday, have a fantastic week.
CCC
Haha thanks! Mead…I wouldn’t touch Imai — you too!
Hello Sir Grey! Quick question. I happened to grab Mead recently and been getting lucky w/ Schmidt (sf) at 3b over Bregman. I have Albies at 2b but all the elig on these guys is nice for these fellers… think Mead slides right into Beantown and keeps rollin?
Pick 2 – Albies, Mead & Schmidt?
Thanks as always! Cheers~
Albies, Mead
Thanks man. Noticed you a 100 Mead ???s after the fact! So ‘preciate it!
No problem
Hi Grey,
With both Acuna and Kurtz able to play, I have some lineup decisions yo make.
1. With Kurtz at 1st, who would you play at 2B, Mead or Schmitt?
2. I now have Trout at CF, Acuna in RF and Alonso at DH, therefore for LF, who would you choose among the following or is it a DTD decision?
Jake McCarthy
Jack Bauers
Wilyer Abreu
3. after you choose one, does the other 2 have any trade value? Could you get a SP? who would you try and get?
Thanks again!
1. Mead 2. DTD 3. Doubtful but I don’t know what the rest of your league thinks
Do you have a favorite among Bauers,McCarthy or Abreu?
Thanks!
Bauers
Or trade the other 2 for a SS instead of Henderson?
Hey Grey – trade: my B. Rice and Nolan McLean for his Abrams? My pitching is solid, ish. Jeffers would be my backfill at C.
Sure
do you think edwin diaz will be any good when he returns?
Yeah, why not
I was offered Diaz for McGonigle. I have Tanner Scott…so I think they are trying to entice me and its kind of working. points league
Sounds fair, I’d want mcgonigle…get a cheaper closer elsewhere
Hard Luck Fantasy Season (will most likely miss playoffs) Keeper League:
Give Edwin Diaz to Get Ragans (would have to keep him in top 10)?
Know it isn’t a vacuum but can Ragans Drew Ras?
Nope
Much appreciated
No problem
Which side would you take (keeper league):
FTJ + Witt
For
E! + Wood
E!
What’s good Grey? Welp…I duns did it. 12-team H2H limited keeper league (currently in 2nd place), I traded Cal Raleigh for Liam Hicks and Sean Burke. If you were to give me a letter grade for the trade, what would I get?
Hi to Ted!
Ted says hi!
Grade: A
Hot damn. Thank you:)
No problem
Just curious about your general thoughts on Roki Sasaki ROS? Do you think he might be back to what he looked like in the playoffs last season?
Braden Montgomery or Ryan Waldschmidt ROS?
Braden
Lost Langliers . Grabbed Mack off heap. Got offered Salvy Perez for Detmers. Fair? Sweetener needed? Keep 10 forever with no contracts
Meh
One more Grey. I dropped Okamato for CES in our 10 Team Yahoo H2H Points, as he wasn’t doing much for the last few weeks, but you would rather have him back?
Or maybe add Okamoto over Stowers (the paint dry comment is perfect for this jabrone).
Thanks.
I prefer Okamoto
Over Stowers or CES? Thanks Grey.
Stowers
Morning & Happy National Scotch Day and National Chicken Finger Day
Yes, I have 2 holidays today but not sure I could think of better lunch…. I mean dinner plans than some chicken tendy’s & scotch!
Anyhoo, got 2 quick ones for you today:
Thanks as always!
Ha, nice! 1. I am not 2 Hold
I need to conserve starts who would be your top 4, in order of preference, from this list:
Williams at Cin (Singer)
Taj vs KC (Lugo)
Henderson at SF (Roupp)
Jared Jones vs AZ (Rodriguez)
Cavalli vs Tor (Bieber)
McLean vs Mia (Perez)
Burke vs NYY (Weathers
SON is pretty jazzed about most of them bar Burke and Hendo. I need it it all: K’s, W’s, and ratios.
McLean, Cade, Taj, Williams
Thanks as always
No problem
Just back from a 2 week vacation and my son hasn’t ruined everything. Strategy question: In one 12 team league, we are near the top in every hitting category and low in pitching. We have 4 closers and have been playing 2-3 at a time. (Bednar, Smith, Jansen and Gomez). We can make up the most ground in saves and whip so I’d like to start all 4 for a week or 2. Problem, of course, is the drop in innings, QS and probably wins. Since our starters aren’t great, I believe missing Bibee v Ariz and Ascraft at Cinn isn’t a big deal this week. Thoughts?
Thanks as usual
HAHA, nice! hope you had a nice time! Yeah, bench those two SPs
Hello Grey! Very good stuff here.
I tell ya, I get so angry watching Cease pitch well after what he did to my team last season. Ok, I am good for now.
So who would you choose to start – J Jones or ERod? They are pitching against each other in Pitt.
Thanks.
ERod
Need to drop one in 16 team roto with Acuna back – dump Canzone or Delauter?
5×5 OPS league
DeLauter
D. Guzman or K. Manzardo in standard 5×5 AL only roto?
Guzman
Is Aaron Judge and his return from IL too much of a risky lottery pick to be trying to trade for him? Early September return is the last week of regular season or 1st week of playoffs.
Trading Hunter Greene or Messick for Judge seems a bit rich no?
Seems like a decent gamble
Would you start Christian Scott or Zac Thornton for 2 starts this week points league? @ATL and @MIA. Or avoid altogether.
Scott
Great weekend roundup! I have CJ Abrams and what a run he’s been on!
10 team weekly lineup H2H and wanted some lineup advice:
1) Mead or Ceddane for 2B? Both same matchups and unclear where Mead is batting.
2) does Logan Henderson @SF start over Woo (home to MIN) or Messick (home to AZ)?
3) Bauers or Busch for ROS?
Thanks!
LG
1. Mead 2. Messick 3. Bauers
Grey,
I can only start one of these this week in a pts league:
Bennett @Ath; @LAD
Jax TX; CHW
Roupp MIL; @SD
Jax, Roupp
Thoughts on P. Ramirez in NL only standard 5×5 roto 10 team.
Acquired on waivers – by rule would need to have him active this upcoming week which would mean having to sit either Pratt or Perdomo this week… not ideal, but is it worth having the infield depth flexibility going forward?
No, lose Ramirez
Would you take the risk on acquiring Kyle Tucker for Okamoto and Yelich? Just pray and hope Tucker figures it out just a little
No
You’re posing this like you have Yelich and Okamoto…Are you saying you have Tucker? I would want Okamoto side
I have Yelich and Okamoto and was offer Tucker for them
Hold
Please rank the following RP in AL on 5×5 10 team roto:
B. Headrick, K. Finnegan, K. Kelly
Close races in wins, saves, is and currently at the top in ratios
Kelly, Finnegan
Hi Grey,
Your help is always appreciate
1. If you had to choose 4 of the five pitchers, who would you NOT start or they are all to good to not start?
A Sax s Texas at home
B. Cavalli vs Toronto at home
C Lambert at the LAA
D. Trevor Rodgers at Det
E. Chandler at home vs AZ
Thanks!!!
Bubba
Thank you!!!
No problem
Appreciate the Mr. Inbetween recommendation Grey, thoroughly enjoyed it
I’d ask if you know of any more underrated gems, but it would be hard to match that kind of quality
Just watched The Magician to see where it all got started
Afraid Joe Ryan is dealing with something, but willing to give him a bit more rope because Scott Ryan is such a brilliant guy
Be aware Twins, Jed Hoyer always overpays for damaged goods at the trade deadline
Thanks for answering my query a few weeks back and passing it along mate
Gomorrah is great

Got to thinking who else I drafted early on the team I have Abrams. Here are my first 4 picks (drafting from the #11 slot) with their current rank on the Player Rater:

Just need 2 good months from Guerrero & Brown to save my year.

36 Witt Jr. 127 Gunnar Henderson 33 Pete Alonso 56 Logan Gilbert TOTAL 252
Pretty good, except for you-know-who.
Here are the teams with a total under 100:

Hate that I see this and think, “If I did exactly the same next year, I could be in 1st,” but it’s what I’m thinking, well, minus you-know-who — yours isn’t inherently bad or wrong either…And none of those great teams did anything I wouldn’t have done….Like if I had the 1st pick, I might’ve taken Ohtani, Wood, Turang and Sale….Just the way it goes sometimes
Agreed. And it has been shown many times that the draft in RCLs is less important than some other formats.
Here is the sheet if anyone wants to look up how their first 4 picks compare to other RCL teams.
Thanks for this!
Thank you VinWins, always enjoy your stats. My first 4 picks, 14 team, 11th pick: Carroll, Kurtz, Wood, Naylor, then drafted Maikel Garcia and still ended up to Abrams. Grey is the best, but don’t tell him😉🤙.
Damn you!
Hey, it’s only because of you…..
Aw
@Grey: weekly roto. Who do you like this week?
Mead – 4 @ Ath, 3 @ lad
Naylor – 1 @ Tex, 3 @ lad, 3 vs min
Mead
Hey Grey! Please rank for ROS (5×5): Christian Walker, Tawa, France, Lane Thomas. Thanks!
Walker, Thomas, France
Hey Grey,
In my H2H 12 team points league, I basically have to run the table to get into the playoffs and am facing a bunch of teams above me in these last 5 matchups.
A. Who would you absolutely avoid out of these starts?
Tolle @ATH (makes me nervous)
Tolle @LAD (also makes me nervous, but not sure I can avoid)
Ashcraft @CIN (makes me nervous – been worried about Ashcraft, wondering if he’s tailing off)
Miller @LAD (definitely sitting – is he injured?)
Cavalli @ATL
B. Would you take any of the following over any of the above?
Leahy @TOR
Abbott vs PIT
Young vs PHI
Scott vs MIA
C. Would you swap out France, CES, Simpson, or Edman for any of the following: Carrigg, Canzone, Lara
Thanks as always!
A. They’re all bad B. Yes, all of them except Cade C. Carrigg, Canzone over Edman and France
Alright, I’m going to have to make some cuts to pick up starters.
A. How would you rank:
Leahy @TOR
Abbott vs PIT
Young vs PHI
Scott vs MIA
B. Would I be marbles for brains if I drop Braxton? His peripherals on the year look great, but his last month plus has been pretty meh, at least not heading in the right direction. I’ve loved having this whole year, but it’s crunch time.
Young, Scott, Leahy
Drop Braxton
How does Tolle’s start seem now without both Kurtz and Langeliers ok the ATH lineup? Still not starting?
It’s not a good park
For QS and Ks
Pick one to bench
Sproat @ SF
Jax vs TEX
Gage vs BOS
Scott vs ATL
Thanks in advance
Sproat
The Mets really botched that Soto injury. Shocking, I know…
Who could see this coming
Straight from the Mets medical manual… how to treat a calf injury? Play DH
HAHA
its the other calf. Thats what happens in sports sometimes. Guys get hurt.
But it’s fun to pick on the Mets. :)
i need a reliever. and with acuna coming back today i need to make space on my roster. would you trade andy pages and kyle bradish for andres munoz
Yes
in talks with another manager. would you do bryce miller + jj wetherholt + bo bichette for william contreras and louie varland
Yes
5×5 saves only so drop Scott when Diaz returns or might Scott get more saves?
Yes, drop Scott
Alvarez or Moreno
Bennett or Ray
Alva
Jake
Mead or B. Lowe in a 6×6 roto (AVG, OBP, SLG)
Lowe
Lowe or L. Garcia.
Thanks, looking at trades.
Garcia
1. Raley or Lile ROS
2. Erod or Yesavage ROS
thank you!
Lile 2. Erod
One more, how does Ward rank with Raley, i need to drop one, thanks
Ward in front of Raley
If you were to update the Top 100 (2nd half), would Mead make it?
Nope
Take a look at Mead’s YTD stats and compare them to Julio’s. Mead has done everything that Julio has done except it took him 90 fewer AB’s. If Mead isn’t a top 100 guy in the 2nd half, what does that say about Julio and those who continue to carry his water despite his lackluster 2026?
Honest question, would you trade J Rod for Mead? Of course not, gotta consider track record over time and opportunity. I love Mead but It’s not even close. I do see your point, but Mead has no history of consistency over time yet. Even though he is a notoriously slow starter, J Rod puts up numbers year after year and is a lock to play everyday.
H2H Points Redraft
Drop Lile for either of Mitchell or Heriberto?
These other guys aren’t exactly turning the world into flames
Roupp at home vs L Henderson and the Brewers? Seems like a loss but…
Also, is Leahy ok as your six SP in a 12 teamer?
Roupp
Leahy is fine
How would you rank these guys rest of year; pasquantino, lile, mead, canzone, stowers, mead?
Canzone, Mead 1, Mead 2, Vinnie
Lol my fault for putting mead n there twice thanks for answering. I must like him alot, since hes going to boston. lol
Ha, No problem
10tm 6×6 OBP and QS Keep 4, 12 starts/wk. 5 moves/wk. In last place and 15 games back of the final playoff spot. I am building for next year.
Trade Neto and Dingler for Vlad Jr?
Vlad owner is in 1st place has Langeliers and Seager. Would pick up Jeffers to backfill.
My potential keepers are Wood, Carroll, Tucker, Schwarber, Vlad (if accepted), and Lindor.
Thanks!
No
Hi Grey,
Would you start or sit:
1.Messick at TB?
2.Griffin Sax vs Texas at home?
3. Cade Cavalli vs Tor at home?
4.Tolle at the A’s?
How confident are you in starting these pitchers?
Ryan Weathers has been inconsistent although he had a great game vs Phillies on Saturday night. Would you pick up him off waivers and drop one of the following Griffin Jax. Cade Cavalli or Trevor Rodgers or even Framber Valdez or Austin Riley or just pass?
Thanks as always for your great effort on my behalf!
Start 1, 2, 3 not 4, forget Weathers
Thanks, Grey!
Would you trade Emil Morales in a 16-team OPS keeper (with 8 milb keepers) for Snell? I’m currently in first and needing some SP help. Sounds like Snell will return in a couple weeks>…? So he’d be available for a playoff push.
Also got Made, L. Pena, E. Rodriguez, Tibbs, Waldschmidt, and Lawlar as other minor league keepers.
Yes, sounds fine
Good morning. Redraft, 12 team, standard 5 x 5 roto.
Please rank: Carrigg, Adell, Benge
Thanks.
Adell, Carrigg

ERod @ PIT

Thank you!
Mack, Heim, Diaz 2. Kirby, Webb, Wrob, Boyd
Brett also holds the Royals record for most games missed due to hemorrhoids. I should point out that the hemorrhoids and the pant pooping were two sepatate, butt related incidents.
In fairness, they are connected. He held it in, got hemorrhoids, and never held it in again
Turang/Davis Martin or Otto Lopez/Gerrit Cole ?
Otto, fair
Great stuff as always Grey!
Trade deadline today. 12 team keeper league, head-to-head points, auction league. currently sitting 3rd and barely in total points lead
Already traded 2 of my 4 keepers for next year (Jared Jones. Wetherholt). Other 2 are Junior and SChlittler.
Just lost Shea, Soto, and Witt over this past period!
Guy wants Schlittler from me ($12 w/ 3 years left of control) for Cease, Skenes ($16 with 1 year left of control), and Acuna.
Current staff:
Schlittler
Fried
Rasmussen
Melton (SP/RP)
Tolle (SP/RP)
G. Jax (SP/RP)
Ray
Harrison
B. Ashcraft (SP/RP)
Alcantara
Weahters
Gasser
Megill (RP)
Offense:
C – Dingler
1B – Olson
2B – Antanocci (move Nico here when Witt returns)
3B – Junior
SS – Nico (until Witt returns )
OF – Tatis
OF – Simpson
OF – Soderstrom
DH – DeLauter
Pull the trigger or no? ugh
Thank you sir!
So, you get Cease, Skenes and Acuna? Sounds pretty good for you
As a Sawx fan, Imma get outta wewck Early to get wicked banged up on some Mead!
In terms of my fantasy team, I’m a indecisive on who gets the start this week for my SPs. I have two remaining spots for the following three:
G. Jax – v TEX and CHW
D. Rasmussen – v CHW
J. deGrom – @ HOU
I am leaning toward leaving deGrom on the bench, which seems wrong but then I would give up two starts from Jax.
Which two should start?
Haha — Jax, Ras
In a keeper league who’s your catcher next year and moving forward?
Ivan Herrera or Ryan Jeffers?
Jeffers
Drop Raleigh for Jeffers rest of season?
Okay
Drop Raleigh for Jeffers rest of season?
Sure
H2H
Logan Henderson @ SF or
Sproat @ SF @ LAA

On a level of 1-10, how confident are you in Max Fried ROS (QS, K/9)
6
Who would you rather have ROS:
Jake McCarthy or Gelof? OPS league
McCarthy
10-team NL only redraft h2h. What to do with Ohtani the pitcher? Playoffs start in 4 weeks and season ends mid-September. Is he a drop?
In NL Only? No way
Do you think he pitches again before September? Whenever he returns, he will likely need to build up innings again. It’s hard to know what’s really going on with his knee and the Dodgers wanting him to be ready for the playoffs. But for the fantasy playoffs, I wonder how many innings he will actually pitch August 24 through September 13. With injuries piling up and only one IL slot, I’m forced to consider it.
I’d imagine he ramps up in mid-August to Sept.
Thanks. I will hang on for a couple more weeks and hope for positive bullpen reports.
No problem
G!
Are we starting Tolle @ATH today?? Feels like a trap even if the robot likes it.
Thanks!
-IANASM
i am in a tolle hostage situation. i expect it to end well!
Nah
Good morning Grey!E
I saw your buy/sell and you are not big on Albies.I am currently playing him for my 2nd baseman.
I have Caleb Durbin currently playing 3rd but he is eligible for 2nd. I can add CES and put him at 3rd, bench Albies and move Durbin to 2nd.
Would you do that?
Or do I just sit pat?
10 team H2H Category yahoo league.
Thanks for your input!
No, I’m not saying bench him, I’m saying trade him
ESPN Points, this week only, botton of rotation, please rank

Abrams was 8 for 13 with 3 home runs the last 3 days to leapfrog Yordan into 3rd on the RAZZBALL PLAYER RATER.
LFG! Sorry, I have him in important leagues and need the Corange!
Haha, it’s ok with me. I have Abrams on my 1 decent team (coincidence, I’m sure). Don’t think I’ve ever been confident enough to draft Yordan.
Yeah, I hear ya
After a week of stagnation, there were 5 top 50 gems added to the Best Fantasy Starts list on the weekend. Cease was best, earning his 3rd July entry, and 4th overall. Mis collected his 6th, though one is at the bottom and will soon disappear. Rasmussen also has 4 entries, while Brown and Pallante scored their first appearance on the list:
01 Jacob Misiorowski Jun 12 vs PHI
04 Dylan Cease Jul 25 @BOS
11 Drew Rasmussen Jun 10 vs BOS
14 Drew Rasmussen Jun 5 @MIA
15 Dylan Cease Jul 8 @SF
26 Drew Rasmussen Jul 26 vs CLE
38 Jacob Misiorowski May 25 vs STL
41 Hunter Brown Jul 25 @CHW
46 Andre Pallante Jul 25 vs CIN
47 Jacob Misiorowski May 31 @HOU
48 Drew Rasmussen Apr 12 vs NYY
50 Jacob Misiorowski Jul 26 vs COL
58 Dylan Cease Jul 3 @SEA
69 Jacob Misiorowski May 8 vs NYY
70 Dylan Cease May 8 vs LAA
99 Jacob Misiorowski May 1 @WSH
Good stuff, Vin!
Kinda shocked Roki didn’t make the cut. Maybe we started discounting stats vs the Mets. Its fair.
Meant to reply to Vin with that Roki question
Roki would be in the 150 range. Skubal is at #95 matching Sasaki with 7 IP/5 baerunners/9 Ks, but with 0 ER compared to 1 ER.
Thanks Vin
I can’t be only Razzballer who watches a pitcher toss a gem, and think to myself “I wonder if he lands on the VIN’s top 100 post tomorrow?”
Thanks for your contribution
Should I worry about the Nats trading Foster Griffin this week and ruining his start? He’s lined up for 7/30 @ ATL. I see his names in rumors. i hope they don’t. Nothing good has happened to my over achieving SP’s when they’ve been traded to better teams. Matt Garza from Texas to the Brewers. circa 2013 I was psyched, and he sucked. I still am working through that.
Don’t see them trading him or it hurting his value
Breslow snookered the Nats pretty good in the Jake Bennett deal earlier this year also.
True
Hey Grey!
Would you keep a $15 Rooker in a OBP OPS league over any of the below guys? He just hit waivers and I’m wondering if he’s worth a roster spot where my ILs are all in use currently…
$5 Nasim Nunez
$5 Carrigg
$5 LAD Max Muncy
$5 Wetherholt
$5 Kade Anderson (I assume he gets the call with enough time to prove himself)
$45 Acuna
Maybe Nasim who is just SAGNOF, but not close on others
thanks, i’ll leave Rooker on the wire.
agreed on Nasim…even if he’s the most straight butter SAGNOF of the year!
Ha, I know, cheap steals/saves are glorious
The Orioles… dumped O’Hearn (OPS+120) and paid Alonso (OPS+ 127) a billion dollars.
Classic Baltimore move.
Like the drafter that drafts on name value alone…lol
[me with Vlad Jr. sobbing]
Right there with ya with Machado!
Yes!
Ha, yeah, they’re not looking great
Grey
Good Morning.
14 team mixed keeper roto standard cats weekly league.
Trying to decide which one of these guys to start this week in my last pitcher slot
( my other slots are filled with two start pitchers this week.
Joey arm fatigue Ryan – at home vs. KC ( this is he one the bot likes most, but his last start and the arm fatigue ( pronounced like Italians do ) has me nervous.
Kevin Gausman – At home against STL -Master of the splitter and the split personality of either ace like or dog crap.
Foster Griffin – on the road @ ATL – Nothing bad to say about him. But this a road game against a suddenly hot Braves team.
Ryan Weathers- on the road @ the Cubs
Shane Drohan- on the road @ SF
so…which one would you start if you were me, or better yet, which one would you start if you were you.
As always thanks in advance.
Gausman
Good day Grey and fellow Razzballers… In a limited keeper ( 3) 12 team mixed h2h categories league. Would appreciate any insight of the offer I received. Kevin McGonigle and Jj wetherholt, for my Witt Jr. I have great keeper options as is, and more concerned with winning my league back to back for this season. Tia
Do not trade away Witt
GM Grey, 12 team, H2H, 7×7. I’ve added France, Mead & Nimmo…Is either Stowers or Lile a drop at this point?ty
Can lose Lile
I have a bunch of SPs with bad matchups next week…
Hancock @LAD
Miller @LAD
Tolle @LAD
Gray @ATH
2-start Seymour vTEX and @COL
Rey-Lo vWAS
1) Please rank.
2) Start or sit in 12-teamer
Bench options/2-starters available on the wire aren’t much better:
Weathers @CHW
Cantillo
Singer vCLE and VPIT
May vCHC and @NYY
3) Please rank
4) Use any instead of my regular guys above?
TY!!!
Ok, when’s Julio gonna flip the switch to 2nd half Julio? The bot seems to have faith it will be soon
Haha, yeah, hopefully
Skenes’s struggles feel like an injury lurking. These hard throwers.. like I mentioned before, I’d say Mis is not going to be the sudden exception to the rule. These guys are surgeries in waiting.
I know, we’re all just hoping they stay healthy as long as they can
Is Payton Tolle too much to give up for Esmerlyn in an RCL? After all, The Magician could perform a disappearing act…
Speaking of Tolle, are you starting him at Bing Bong?
Thanks!
Not too much
No
Cooper Pratt or Jake Mangum for steals?
Thanks!
Pratt
