In the world of fantasy baseball, we are inundated with data. Those of us who enjoy the data have a much better chance of becoming consistently competitive in this game. Eventually, we have to learn how to predict player breakouts or collapses so that we can take advantage of them. Perhaps instinct will allow us to make those predictions to some extent, but probably not to compete with other really good fantasy players. To do that, we likely have to get comfortable with the parsing of the data.

Happy New Year, everyone, and welcome to the first installment of the Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2026. Over the next two weeks I will take two giant bites out of the countdown as I rank the players from 400-301 this week and then 300-201. After that will come bite sized looks of the final 200 players.
When it comes to these rankings, I know some of you will shake your head when it comes to certain players.
I have my biases and a system in how I evaluate fantasy players – and have done so for decades – and you have your biases. That is what makes rankings so interesting and why you will likely look at a host of rankings as a way to gauge how you view a certain player and how others view a certain player.
So here is a quick rundown about these rankings.

Hello, everyone. Welcome back to my weekly rankings. This week is the Top 50 Dynasty Shortstops for 2026.
When it comes to this position, it is full of young players with great upside or have already reached a high level of play while also featuring older players who can still be great players to have on your team.
Overall, if you need to boost your average or your on-base percentage, this is a group to hoard. Collectively, shortstops slashed .254/.317/.394, ranking first, second and fourth among all positions in those categories. The top end players will help you across the board. As you get beyond those players, you will still find shortstops who will help in at least one category, such has homers or steals or whatever you are looking for.
