Chris Archer (6 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 5.73) allowed four homers to the first five hitters he faced in the 2nd inning.  The only way things could look worse for Chris Archer and, specifically the Pirates, is if Austin Meadows hit all four homers wearing different colored sombreros.  “Hola!  I am Austin Prairieritto!”  “Hola!  I am Tijuana Meadows!”  “Hola!  I am Roberto Hernandez!”  “Hola!  Imagine my exclamation marks are in the front of my sentences but upside down!”  Okay, I’m Daffy like a duck talking about a Spanish Meadows when it was the Braves who mollywhopped Archer.  A Spanish Robert Loggia, “Archer is a pitcher that don’t throw straight.”  As I said yesterday, it’s not whether the record of four straight hitters with a home run is going to fall this year, it’s only how soon and with how many homers total.  8 straight hitters with a homer?  9?  12?  Yesterday, Brian McCann (2-for-4, 4 RBIs) hit his 4th and 5th homer, going Yardo Montalban hitting them where da plane da plane goes.  Josh Donaldson (1-for-4) hit his 9th homer, managing to control his Hulk-smash anger until the appropriate time — at the DMV.  Nick Markakis (1-for-2, 2 runs) hit his 6th homer for his 2nd Sparkakis in two days, and Ozzie Albies (1-for-3, hitting .270) hit his 10th homer, 3rd in two games.  ProContractsAreWhatWeKnow dot com said Albies earned $17.87 between homers.  Albies looks like he’s come out of his May funk, but he still has no place to move up in the lineup.  Well, maybe he can replace Austin Riley, whose average has dropped eighty points in a week.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Sean Newcomb – Appizzarently, the Braves read Razzball and took my suggestions, moving Gausman to the Ineffective List and Newcomb into the rotation for one start.  Watch him throw a gem and then Keuchel replaces Foltysandwitz.

Mitch Keller – Will be called up to start on Wednesday.  He gave up 6 ER in his major league debut in 4 IP last time out, and is firmly in the wait-and-see camp.  At our wait-and-see camp, we take binoculars into the trees and watch our lives pass us by.  Registration is only $1200 a month!

Khris Davis – 2-for-4 and his 14th homer, hitting .241.  Am I the only one who thinks Davis hits homer as a way to get closer to .247?

Matt Olson – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 10th homer.  Okay, let’s remove David Dahl’s hamate bone!

Darwinzon Hernandez – 3 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners (5 BBs), 7 Ks, ERA at 5.06, as he was called up for a spot start.  He’s the Red Sox #1 pitching prospect, but has been absolutely crushed in Double-A recently, but apparently it’s not survival of the fittest for Darwinzon. He’s the kind of pitching prospect right now who I’m more excited to watch vs. own.  Reminds me a bit of a young Randy Johnson in that hitters are swinging and missing because they’re rightfully scared that Darwinzon has no clue where his 95 MPH fastball is going.

Mookie Betts – 1-for-4 and his 11th homer, hitting .267.  Serious question, how much did the Red Sox drink after their World Series victory for a six-month hangover?

Hunter Pence – 1-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBIs, 3 walks, and an inside-the-park home run (14) on a ball that was so badly misplayed Mookie Betts picked up the ball off the warning track after Pence jogged across home plate.  Looked like some miscommunication, like when you go to the vet and they tell you, “Your dog’s eyes are clearly saying ‘feed me’ not ‘f*ck me.'”

Elieser Hernandez – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 5.87, as he was called up for a spot start.  Usually it’s Elieser doolittle, but recently in the minors, under the coaching of Henry Higgins, Elieser’s looked much better.  He’s all that?  Not quite.

Jordan Yamamoto – Will be called up to make his major league debut as Jose Urena goes to the IL.  Yamamoto claim to fame to this point is the name I screamed yesterday in the middle of the sentence, “Why are they bringing up Yamamoto and not Gallen?” Seems clearly to be a 40-man roster thing at this point on Gallen, as in I got 40 guys together who own Gallen and we all drank forties.  Yamamoto had a 3.58 ERA in Double-A and his fastball sits in the high 80s, so I’m not touching him outside of NL-Only leagues, and there you touch anyone.

Dakota Hudson – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.47.  Every pitcher’s peripherals I look at that say they’re supposed to be bad are good and vice versa.  It’s like we’re in a Black Mirror episode.  Call it Striking FIPers.

Marcell Ozuna – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 18th homer, hitting .267.  OZUNA carry load for a missing Carpenter.  OZUNA couldn’t find tool belt so he carry around arcade belt to make change.

Yadier Molina – 2-for-5, 1 run, as he was activated from the IL.  Kevin from ESPN’s “Get Him In Your Lineup” Department said, “Sorry, I disrupted the Harassment in the Workplace metting because I whistled at Nancy. That’s a compliment in many cultures.”

Patrick Corbin – 5 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 4.11.  I had Wheeler, Quintana, Paddack and Corbin going yesterday.  *moves stage left* I will now be doing a live reading of The Bell Jar in my oven. I mean, what in the holy name of ishkabibble is going on with pitching?  There’s five starters worth starting and everyone else makes me want to be the millennial Garbage Pail Kid, Zoë Loft.

Trea Turner – 0-for-3, 1 run and his 9th steal.  He really did steal his 9th bag yesterday, unlike how I jumped the gun on him the day before.  Maybe The Secret does work and I willed it into existence.  Let’s see…I want a million bucks!  *looks out the window and sees Ray Allen riding an elk* Am I in a Far Side cartoon now?

Anthony Rendon – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 13th and 14ht homer, hitting .320.  The 1st home run came off of Manny Banuelos, whose family crest is a urinal cake.

Eloy Jimenez – 2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs and his 9th homer.  My boy, Eloy!

Welington Castillo – 1-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 5th homer.  Where’s the boeuf?  At the plate!

Dee Gordon – 1-for-4 as he was activated from the IL. Kevin from ESPN’s “Get Him In Your Lineup” Department said, “I agree to no longer call the 3rd floor locker room, ‘Sandusky’s Office.'”

Mallex Smith – 2-for-4, 2 runs and hsi 17th steal, as he stayed in the leadoff spot even after Gordon’s return.  *going onto eBay and bidding on a “Natch”*

Trevor May – 1 IP, 0 ER, and his 1st save, ERA at 3.13.  The Twins over here just shrugging through closers.  Start calling Rocco Baldelli, Shrug Knight.  Kidding aside, there was a point during this preseason when May looked like he might be the closer, and I grabbed him in a few leagues last night. It’s not like Parker or Rogers were running away with the job.

Max Muncy – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 14th and 15th homers.  He hit his 1st home run to Disneyland and told Goofy to fish it out of the fountain.  So messed up!

Kenta Maeda – 4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.89.  Maeda out here saying, “I’m gonna make it so no white people ever compare me to Ryu.”

Corey Seager – Left yesterday’s game with what looked like a hamstring injury that was sending him to the IL.  The baseball universe is just not big enough for two Seagers. Luckily, Bob doesn’t play baseball.

Shohei Ohtani – 2-for-4 and a slam (7) and legs (1).  Damn, Ohtani — Damntani? — got hot fast.  He’s got more homers than Dahl in like 1/10th of the at-bats.

Fernando Tatis Jr. – 2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 8th homer.  FTJ!  Fun the jewels!

Ian Kinsler – 1-for-4 and his 8th homer, hitting .209.  Now he’s just trolling Urias’s owners.

Peter Lambert – 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 1.50.  See, it’s not impossible to pitch in Coors.  I’m farting in your general direction, Marquez!

Yordan Alvarez – 1-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer.  Podcaster Ralph and I talk at length about rap on this week’s podcast, but we also briefly mention baseball and Yordan Alvarez.

Yuli Gurriel – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and a slam (5) and legs (3).  Also, in this game, Tyler White (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, hitting .223) hit his 2nd homer.  This is one of those times when I think it’s accurate to say Yordan is elevating everyone’s game, because Yuli and White are both like, “Oh, crap, Yordan’s gonna steal our job if we don’t do something.”

Robinson Chirinos – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 11th homer.  Uh-oh, Chirinos!

Travis Shaw – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 5th homer.  That’s not Travis Shaw.  That’s Grey’s preseason pick for NL MVP, Travis Shaw!  Obviously I’m either cyclops’ing him or grabbing him.

Christian Yelich – 3-for-5, 2 runs, and his 25th homer, hitting .346.  Sometimes I have dreams I own Yelich and Bellinger on the same team and no pitchers.

Freddy Peralta – 4 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 5.81.  There’s a horse ghost somewhere neighing, “You can’t even make him glue.”

Trevor Bauer – 7 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 11 baserunners (5 BBs), 6 Ks, ERA at 3.71.  His problem over the last month has been command.  If you think five walks in less than eight innings is him conquering that issue, I have a seat at a bridge game in Boca Raton to sell you.

Carlos Santana – 1-for-3 and his 13th homer.  That’s his third homer in nine games, and has hit in nine of ten games and is batting .265 in the last week, and I should’ve stopped before that last tidbit.  Overshared!

Ketel Marte – 3-for-5 and his 17th homer, hitting .280.  Here’s Ketel over some cold hard facts:  On the Player Rater, he’s a top 25 player.  Not hitter, player.  (Eduardo Escobar is near a top ten player — HA!)

Jon Duplantier – 3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 4.32.  After the game, Duplantier said, “I say, I say, that wasn’t the best of starts. No siree. Jon Duplantier is just not happy with that.”  Duplantier sounds like Foghorn Leghorn in my head.

Jerad Eickhoff – Moved to the bullpen where this Jer-khoff can pull his pud for rest of eternity.

Scott Kingery – 1-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 7th homer, and 3rd homer in two games and 18th time I’ve said you should own him in the last two weeks and 450th time I’ve mentioned him this week and oh em gee, what’s the hold up about?!  Not you, I’m in a gas station being held up.  In my wallet, I only have a Walgreen’s gift card, but you can have it.

Eric Sogard – 2-for-4 and his 6th homer, hitting .280.  This is a dopey thing to say but I’m dopey.  Sogard has been better than Vlad Jr.

Trent Thornton – 5 IP, 3 ER, 10 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.78.  Streamonator liked this start, which showed middling results, and is positive on his next one, which is in Houston, so I think the Streamonator has a crush on Trent.  Maybe it’s his steely demeanor.

John Means – 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 2.60.  I continue to ignore Means, um, mean’s while, I keep throwing every garbage pitcher under the sun.  I’ve looked up Means’s player page so many times, I enter “J” into Google and it says, “You don’t like John Means’s peripherals, forget him!”

Anthony Santander – 3-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI, hitting .389 since his call-up by the O’s.  Santander is a 30 Grade speed and 30 Grade power guy, but he’s got a 30 Grade hit tool too, so he’s very consistent.  Could be a hot schmotato though.

Mychal Givens – 1 IP, 0 ER, and his 6th save, ERA at 4.82.  Overheard in the Orioles’ front office, “Who are we giving the ball to in the 9th?”  “Yeah, I guess Mychal’s our only option.”

Jake Junis – 7 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 5.35 vs. Spencer Turnbull – 6 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.78.  The Turnbull/Junis matchup was billed simply as “Tukis:  Where the bull comes from.”  Streamonator dislikes Junis and Turnbull nearly equal their next times out.

Nicholas Castellanos – 1-for-4 and his 7th homer, hitting .262.  I can’t believe a guy who actively hits the ball down is beating Dahl in homers.

Zack Wheeler – 4 2/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.97.  Wheeler keeps on rolling!  Example:  I lie on the pavement, and one of those giant wheelie trucks that presses down pavement rolls me over.

Jeff McNeil – 4-for-10, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .338.  Man, he’s got no power, huh?  What’s that, almost as many homers as David Dahl?  Leave me alone, brain!

Jason Vargas – 6 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.68.  He’s averaged more than 7 IP in his last three starts with a 1.64 ERA, two of those games came against in Dodger Stadium and in the Bronx. Dating back to April 19th, Vargas has a 2.20 ERA in eight starts.  Naturally!

James Paxton – 2 2/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.04.  Paxton owners?  Are you listening?  I don’t own him, but I understand your pain. My suggestion is don’t go back and look at Jason Vargas’s blurb ever again. It just hurts too much.

Gary Sanchez – 4-for-10, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 20th homer.  He’s on pace for 50 homers and could pass his career high (33) before the All-Star Break.  Speaking of which, the Home Run Derby seems like a redundant showcase.  How about some outside the box ideas?  Miggy vs. Pujols in a 50-yard dash…Aaron Judge and Franmil Reyes race to put on Altuve’s uniform…Jung Ho Kang executing a hit & run.

Gio Urshela – 3-for-8, 2 runs, 5 RBIs and his 5th homer.  “Hello, March Grey, I am not a hologram, I am your future self, June Grey.  Instead of drafting Trea Turner, draft Gio Urshela.”  June Grey, “Can you please be quiet, I’m bingeing the first seven seasons of Game of Thrones in anticipation of the final season!”

Luke Voit – 2-for-8, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 16th homer.  What a glorious day to see Voit and Pete Alonso (1-for-7, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 22nd homer) on the same field.  It’s like one of the great pairings.  Like Captain & Tennille; Oprah & Gayle; Haniger & a jockstrap filled with ice.

I guess I need to read up on prospects. I thought you were making up names in some of the early blurbs.
What do you make of the Pirates outfield situation? Can we expect nearly full time out of Polanco now that he’s seemingly over his shoulder injury?
Can anyone here see into the mind of a madman and predict if C*nt Hurdle will really platoon Polanco with Dickerson and Melky?
He’s available on waivers in some of my leagues and seems like a no-brainer upgrade in most situations.

It looks like Miami is playing the “push off Gallen’s service time” game. In a way, it is a compliment to him … if your team is not competitive in the current season and you think a guy is merely going to be pretty good, there is little reason to play the game and you go ahead and call him up … but if you think he might be truly great, you play the game and keep him down for another year until you can get competitive.

    • CMUTIMMAH says:
      (link)

I’m sure stripping a year where he can make real money from Gallen is really making him blush…

They need to fix this. Not sure how they can, maybe players could file grievances but then that is like a minor league player saying “I’m better than these MLB guys that will soon be my teammates”… but there has to be a way to limit the obvious player rights issues.

I’ve always leaned towards entry level players getting high incentivize contract riders. But even that has caveats where players might be benched to avoid them hitting thresholds….

Hi Grey, DT, Brothers of Razz,

Closeresque question (not as bad as C questions!)

Dozier is back soon so need to drop one of these jerkface RPs:

    Barnes (uggh)
    Leclerc (UGGGHHH)
    Taylor Rodgers (uggh my back)

(I also have Strop but he gets a pass until Kimbrell is ready)

Who will I feel the least bad about dropping in a week or two in terms of saves?

And May over Rodgers (May’s a righty, righty?)?

    TIA!

I’m debating this. He’s in the mix now that Parker seems to be out (at least temporarily) but doesn’t it seem like he’ll keep getting more spots vs lefties and now perhaps May might occupy Parker’s old role? That seems the easiest course of action from where I sit anyway.

    Grey!!!

Very nice report, it was like a strip of raw macon (kosher bacon, man) over my eyes.

    a. I will take your Quintana, Paddack, Corbin and Wheeler fearsome foursome and destroy it with my Paxton and Iglesias dismal duo from last night. Much more bang for the buck in Iglesias’ meltdown. He’ll comment about how he is the only closer being used in these kinds of situations once again, but man he couldn’t have done much worse. Paxton…gotta be injured (again), right? Grey, you there?

    b. On Corbin, I saw that he was down 4-2 to the ChiSox and then gave up Eloy’s solo homer and I thought (inside myself) that that was his night. Stupid manager thought that his team could come back (which they did) and that throwing out Corbin ad nauseum was the best option. Bad, bad, manager.

    c. Another ASB activity? How about all the MF pitchers get into a line and get a bunt down with less than 2 strikes. The next pitcher cannot come to the plate until the last one completes the task and no one goes to sleep until they all get the job done. Damn! Am angry.

    d. Abbott and Costello quote of the day for June 12

In Society, 1944 (we’re still in scene 1 if anyone is following)

Albert (Costello): Oooh, oooh. [After he shut off the pipe that squired Eddie (Abbott) from yesterday’s quote.]

[Scene moves outside onto the street.]

Eddie (Abbott): Elsie must be around here someplace. That’s her cab. Blow the horn.

Albert (Costello): Huh? Blow the horn?

Eddie (Abbott): Blow the horn! I want to get Elsie.

Albert (Costello): Elsie! Elsie! [Lou is blowing the horn of the cab, screaming Elsie’s name.]

[A police officer approaches the cab and grabs Lou by the collar.]

Police Officer: Listen to me. There’s a city ordinance against blowing horns, and besides, people around here want to sleep. Stop blowing that horn.

    Albert (Costello): Okay.

[Eddie (Abbott) turns to Lou, not hearing what had just transpired.]

Eddie (Abbott): Go on, blow the horn.

Albert (Costello): You heard what the cop said.

Eddie (Abbott): I said, blow the horn, didn’t I?

Albert (Costello): He said there’s a lot of people sleepin’.

Eddie (Abbott): So what? Did you put ’em to sleep? Is it your fault they’re in bed?

    Albert (Costello): No.

Eddie (Abbott): No. Blow the horn!

    Albert (Costello): You sure?

Eddie (Abbott): I said blow the horn, didn’t I?

Albert (Costello): Elsie.! Elsie.! [Lou blows the horn, the police officer cringes hearing the sound.]

Police Officer: Listen! Didn’t I tell you there was a city ordinance?

    End scene! Phew, finally.

    Cheers,
    Ante

      16 team H2H Keeper LEAGUE

My SP: Flaherty, Luchessi, Lester, Arrieta, Snell, Maeda, C.Smith, Framar, Quantrill. [Gallen in minors]

My RP: Barnes, Castillo, Swarzak, Doolittle, S .Greene

My Bats: Voit Encarnacion, Carlos Santana, B.Dozier, H. Dozier(DL), N.Goodrum, Dahl, Trout, Domingo, Cooper, Tapia, Alfaro, Simmons (DL).[ Bichette minors]

Guy in my league needs a SP. He’s got SS bat DeJong which I need. He’s also got Bryant he’s willing to deal.

I’m 8-2, but need another bat, RP and just ehh on SP.

Is Flaherty for DeJong fair? Good move? Can you give me combinations of players for a trade involving DeJong and/or Bryant?

The other day I asked you about a young pitching staff and you noted how dangerous it could be given the fact that they’re volatile and inconsistent. What are your thoughts on Verlander? (Dumb question, I know he’s elite), but he will be 37 next season. An owner has him at $35 for this and next season. It’s a $300 cap. Would you do either of these deals?

I get Verlander I give Altuve
    I get Verlander/Price I give Altuve T. Richards

Altuve expires after this season with the potential to renew for 3 years at 25% his auction price in 2020. Price is $1 for this and next year. Pts. I have Mondesi, Rodgers, Chavis, Urias all with 3B eligibility for next season plus whoever I draft.

So, who should I be looking for to replace Goldschmidt long term on a keeper team? To give you an idea how long this has been going, Goldy replaced Lance Berkman who had a good run for me. It is looking like Rendon and Vladito are going to stack up on third base, with Rendon being better longer than I had bet, so I have some talent to possibly move. (Trea Turner and Corey Seager stack at SS in the sense that they seem to take turns on the IR.)

    • Cram It says:
      (link)

Are you asking what 1B you should target for the next 10 years at 1B? Is that a requirement?

      • Erik says:
        (link)

Well, it is a keep-15 league. So if you don’t groom replacements, you have to pay a pretty full price.

        • Cram It says:
          (link)

Right, and you’d have to pay a pretty full price for an Alonso or Hoskins or Bellinger. Josh Bell? Or maybe you’re talking more about a minor leaguer?

          • Erik says:
            (link)

I do latch onto about one minor leaguer a year to groom. Right now, Valdito is my minor-leaguer-turning-into-major-leaguer, so I have room for a new one. We can carry 2 minor league players during the season. First base isn’t what it used to be, and it seems pretty hard to develop compared to say, second base.

    Pitchers:

    Relievers:

    Giles, Romo, Jackson, Rogers

I’m currently in 1st in my Roto league, but not by much. Hitting wise, my team is doing fine. I’m either 1st or near the top in every hitting category, so I don’t think I need to make any changes to my batters. Pitching on the other hand, I’m struggling with. I’m near the bottom in ERA and Whip, so I could use some middle relievers to help smooth out my ratios. Would you add any of these players to help boost my pitching stats? Should I be adding more relievers? Or stick with the 8 starters and 4 relievers format I currently have? Here are some free agents. Thanks Grey

      • Wondo says:
        (link)

Not a holds league, but I’m looking to move on from Romo and Jackson. I’ll hold until better closer options appear. Thinking long term, would you maybe grab Strickland over one of the two? It wouldn’t be until he’s activated of course.

        • Grey

Strickland is on hold experiencing soreness, he might not even get a save this year

  44. Dave D says:
    (link)

No joke about the juiced ball. Ive got one team with 12 homers already this week and two with 10. Is it 1998?

I’m a little more interested in Jordan Yamamoto than you are. I actually drafted him with my 50th round pick in our Razz DC. While he won’t blow anyone away he has great control (sub-1.00 WHIP in 2018) and movement. I think he’s worth watching and might surprise. I’m not sure I’d start him next week @PHI but he might be a solid cheap streamer for the next match up or two or down the road here and there if he sticks.

BTW, good move on T. May. What a crazy carousel in MIN it is. Hansel looked great in the five out save last night. He’s definitely going to top 20 saves and has run away with the gig despite last weeks speed bump.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

On the flip side of that, if your fantasy team is not hitting 4+ HRs a day, you fall behind so fast

I’ll be watching Yamamoto, his 89 MPH fastball doesn’t excite but maybe his offspeed pitches will be that good

Rogers had a stiff back, supposedly, so might not be anything, just read this morning

      • Dave D says:
        (link)

Rodgers, Parker, Hildefwhatever, May, I dunno. Id rather own none. I’m pretty solid at closer in almost every league despite punting in many spots. Our DC I fortunately grabbed Hansel to handcuff Allen, but drafted May/Parker and have gotten very negative return. I shoulds drafted Greene over May. Dumb move.

Great start, and I would have gotten a win too… if it weren’t for those meddling M’s and their stupid bullpen (quote in the spirit of Scooby-Doo). Really liking this Leake fella lately – is he starting to turn into more than just a streamer in H2H QS leagues?

Offensive cats are HR, RBI, SB, OBP, SLG. Could use the most help in HR, RBI, and Slg. What is your top 3 out of the below FAs?

Corbin went through a stretch at this time last year where he gave up at least 5 runs in 3 of 4 starts. Everyone doubted (except Grey) that he was as good as he was pitching and thought he was finally coming down to earth.

The problem with Corbin this year is he’s not getting the swing and miss on his sider that he got last year. I don’t think he’s a 4 ERA guy, but a mid-high 3’s seems to be expected if hitters aren’t chasing his slider, because his fastball is meh.

    • Grey

Agreed, but he might be able to get a better feel for the slider at some point since he’s done it before

      • Shallow League Decisions says:
        (link)

Exactly. His success will depend on getting hitters to chase the slider or it will be a frustrating year for us Corbin owners.

Hey-yo to the Hey-yo, Home Greyo (and Mr. Teeth),

    I am feeling chatty today . . .

First off, Patrick Corbin must have some nagging injury, no? Look at the last three steaming dumps he’s taken.

Second, Grey, I loved the running bag on Dahl’s lack of HR production without actually writing a blurb on him. Brilliant. You’re the James Joyce of fantasy baseball blogs!!!!

Someone asked above about starting Plesac, and I second that emotion, but I’ll add that the bot hates it (-$8.7).

Lucchessi? Is he starting in SF today or COL tomorrow? WTF?

And finally, I need to target an SP via trade, and we are kinda on the seam between DTs Top-100 columns. Is Odorizzi as legit of a trade target as CoolWhip made him out to be? I like that MIN offense behind him a lot. Any other ideas for SPs that someone might be trying to sell high who are worth buying high? What about buy low SPs?

That was a shitty last question, and just a lot in general. Sorry, I had too much coffee today.

Was offered a trade and I think I need to show my whole team for proper evaluation.

His Bieber & Goldy for my J.D. Mart

Context: I’m hanging onto 1st, he’s in second. But this guy just made a mega trade this weekend and his team is now jacked and he was already nipping on my heels. His other Pitchers are: Sale, Verlander, and Stras.

    12 team keeper (3, no penalty), 7×7 (OBP & slug%/ Saves & Holds)

    My Team:

    C -Alfaro
    1st – Voit
    2nd – Schoop
    SS – Segura
    3rd – Arenado
    OF – J.D. Mart
    OF – Benintendi
    OF – Ozuna
    OF – Puig
    U – N. Cruz
    U – Hosmer
Bench – Mcneill, Odor, Hiura, Tucker
    IL – Moreland, Inciarte

    Ryu
    Nola
    Castillo
    Gibson
    Skaggs
    Thornton(streamer)
    Junis(streamer)
    Lynn(streamer)

    Felipe Vazquez
    Blake Parker
    Cishek
    Buttrey
    IL- Carrasco, Loaisiga

My instinct is no deal. However I could use the pitching, and always afraid of J.D.’s durability.

I’d ask to swap Bieber with Sale first, Verlander second. If it’s not either of those two, no deal, right?

I just realized Dahl has over a .900 OPS. Seems like he’s struggled this year but a .900 OPS is great. Get ready for a HR bender at some point.

    • krazyivan says:
      (link)

I don’t see the HRs coming in anytime soon. He was swinging for the fences in April and it led to a 33% K rate. Since coming back from injury he has shorted his swing, stayed behind the ball and become a pure LD hitter. He has 24 hits 6Ks and 5BBs the last two weeks. I think he is going to win the batting crown this year, but we are talking maybe 15 HRs at best.

      • crimedog says:
        (link)

Great analysis, I hadn’t had time to dig in, just know he’s typically a 30 homer guy. Makes sense though, sounds like he’s adjusting the type of hitter he is. Maybe he eventually combines the two approaches and is something like a bellinger in 2020.

    Hey Grey,

With Carrasco struggling when healthy and the timetable being very unclear, is he still a hold? My 2 DL spots are filled with Gallo and Glasnow. Already had to drop Taillon to start streaming to make innings each week (H2H). I trot out Beiber, Giolito, and Lucchesi regularly and have streamed otherwise. Would you pick up Luzardo to stash instead of holding Carrasco? Thanks… love the podcast!

      Grey says:

      Stash Luzardo

good thing i only own and needed the innings bad enough to play mikolas in one league. i almost turned framber into a streamer in a 12 teamer (shallow rosters too) to nab mikolas today. but didn’t seeing framber’s next matchup, but really i was just lucky my this week opp in that league has few starters. but since i started week so badly i still almost did it (nazi and corbin also owned there)

Yeah, what a crap game from Mikolas

Trade question.. 14 team points dynasty league. I am in better shape with pitching than hitting (dietrich is my 2b and la stella is my 3b). I got offered Moustakas for Canning and Toussaint. Which side do you like here?

    Thanks!

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Moose

    Grey,

What are thought on Jordan Yamamoto? Is he worth picking up?

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Depends on league, nothing special

Hi Grey! Would you please look into your crystal ball and tell me if Kingery is going to get 5 more starts at 2nd base this year so he qualifies there in my league? I could really use some help at that position, but it looks like he will play primarily OF and 3rd.

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Yup, by July 27th

    • fletch f. fletch says:

Put it on the calendar. Looks like I better start making other plans. Thanks home slice.

Howie or Shaw depending on need

  148. The Harrow says:
    (link)

the ex NFL return man (jacoby jones) or cooper in OPS/hits added league. pretty sure you recently said cooper but that might’ve been before that big jones game a few ago. plus he gets steals too.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Cooper

    • The Harrow says:
      (link)

jones has been very consistent with just good not great games nearly every day too, i’m actually surprised he’s available here (16 teamer)

  149. William Hung says:
    (link)

Love it – Kingery knew I picked him up and he decides to just strike out in both ABs

Let’s sink my team some more!

      Haha

      • William Hung says:

I just need this slump to end… it’s getting ridiculous at this point

        • Grey

          Grey says:

Hate it when the whole team goes cold

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

It’s not even that they are cold per se, it’s just that they are performing well below expectations (i.e. Benintendi). I feel so helpless – seriously, is there anyone I can drop, or just hope they aren’t have a career worst season?

            C- Contereras
            1B- Bellinger
            2B- Mondesi
            3B- Kingery/Senzel (still debating)
            SS- Lindor
            OF- Dahl, Betts, Benintendi
            UTIL- Story
            B- Senzel, Alvarez

Gotta just pray right? I mean Alvarez in 2 games has more HRs than almost every player on my team in the past 2 weeks

            • Grey

              Grey says:
              (link)

You can’t trade anyone? Seems crazy to have Yordan on bench… Trade Story for a better 3B then play Yordan (or whoever gets hot if he doens’t work out)

              • William Hung says:
                (link)

I can try that – people are scared to trade with me cause they don’t want to be the team that helps me win 4 in a row

                • William Hung says:
                  (link)

How would you rank these 3B in an attempt to trade: Rendon, Jo-Ram, Machado, Vlad Jr.

                  FYI – Eduardo Escobar is 4th best 3B right now… :( :( :(

Travis Shaw f’d my team up good

    Need help on a trade….

Keeper league. Yandy Diaz kept at 25 for Dee Gordon who can not be kept. Could use a backup for Goldy who has been underwhelming thus far. Which side do you like?

    Thanks!

Was offered Paxton for my Jram in my 16-team keeper. Fair? Should I ask for a lesser piece as well, like Lourdes Jr? Or maybe a prospect like Cease or Mize? Paxton’s injury history worries me some, and I also have Sale, Verlander, Flaherty, Wheeler, and Happ as my starting pitchers. Thoughts?

  155. toneDEAF! says:

I am struggling this season. I’m in a 12-team H2H points Dynasty league. We keep 7 players each year.

    C- nope
    1- Goldy (1st rnd)
    2- Fletcher
    3- Arenado (1st rnd)
    SS- Tim Anderson
    IF- Rizzo (1st rnd)
    OF- Harper (1st rnd)
    OF- Acuna ( 12th rnd)
    OF- conforto
    U- Senzel
    U- Kingery
    NA- Kyle Tucker

P- Bauer (10th), Giolito, Lucchesi, Matz, Skaggs, t. Richards, Nelson, Elieser Hernandez
    RP- Iglesias, Pressly, Ottavino
    IL- Caleb Smith

I don’t know if I’m just unlucky or what. Anyhow- Had a guy who really wants my Acuna (12th rnd) offer me his Machado (1st rnd), Nola (6th rnd), and Meadows (15th rnd).
I feel like this is a crazy trade and I’d be making out, but Acuna has #1 fantasy player potential for years right? I’ve always been one to get the best player in a deal, and I believe I already have him in this scenario. I don’t know, just frustrated with my season (5-5) and don’t know if this would help me..

Any input by anyone would be much appreciated!
    Thanks all!
