Yesterday, was not just our Independence Day. Yesterday, was the halfway point of the baseball season. So, Halfway to Independence from Jonathan India Day. You cannot tell me our forefathers just happened to put the Fourth of July on the exact midpoint of the baseball season by accident. They didn’t put hairspray on their platinum silver wigs like they were Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada and just happen to drop the doozy of the Declaration of Independence on baseball’s 81st game played just as a little oopsie-daisy on their Yankee Doodle like how your daddy did your mommy. No way! This is why baseball is the National Pastime. So, Happy 4th of July to even all you cowards who drafted starters early. Speaking of starters, Brayan Bello will start for the Red Sox this Wednesday. Bello will pitch for a scream. Take it Highlights, it’s yours! Bello was in the Itch’s top 50 starting pitcher prospects, saying, “Bello added strength and velocity over the lost minor league season and now features a mid-90s fastball with a little extra dotting the gun once in a while. He was successful enough before, as we’ve detailed in these pages, but now he’s striking out 36.9 percent of hitters in High-A and 31.1 percent in AA—a big jump from the 22.6 percent he posted in 2019. His fastball gets a bit too much for him to be a no-doubt starter unless he finds a nasty breaking ball to go along with his plus changeup. Would love to see him take that fastball and hit Grey.” Not cool, man! In a 15-team, mixed league, I grabbed him and I felt unhinged even as I was doing it, but I need something to Bello about. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Kutter Crawford – 5 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 5.04, as he entered the 3rd inning of the game. No one wants to talk about how Kutter’s mother is a time traveler because she saw her kid throw a cutter, then went back in time and gave birth to him? That’s fine, stick your head in the sands, you ostriches!

John Schreiber – 1 2/3 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 0.66, and his 3rd save. Absolutely worth rostering for middle relief help, but for Schrieber to keep getting saves, Cora has to have an epiphany that has escaped him since April.

Trevor Story – 2-for-4 and his 13th homer, hitting .225. This home run came off Josh Fleming (5 IP, 3 ER, 6.17) so no longer can one call him, The Never-Fleming Story.

Patrick Corbin – 7 IP, 1 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 5.68. Baseball, “We are America’s pastime. We have summer to ourselves while all other sports are hibernating.” Also baseball, “Hey it’s the 4th of July let’s give some teams the day off, and have the first game be two terrible teams.” By the by, regarding Corbin, Streamonator liked this start, but I don’t trust Corbin at all.

Tanner Rainey – 1 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 3.67, and back-to-back lackluster games. Tanner Scott, Tanner Houck, Tanner…Hide…Am I forgetting one? I only can remember good Tanners…Hmm…George Hamilton. He was a good tanner. Oh, Tanner Rainey! Right. He sucks. For what it’s Cronenworth, in a 15-team league, Rainey is on my bench for the foreseeable future.

Braxton Garrett – 7 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.25. Take Jose Berrios from me and give me Braxton and unbreak my heart!

Dylan Floro – 1 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 4.95, as he got his 2nd save in as many games. Tanner Scott was out after pitching on three consecutive days. We call that a Tanner Scott Proctor.

Dean Kremer – 4 2/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 2.48. Dean got lit up like a menorah.

Cedric Mullins – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 7th homer. I went over yesterday some Orioles who missed homers, due to the fences being moved back, and Mullins hasn’t missed any, which I think is supposed to be good news, but doesn’t feel like it since he only has seven homers.

Mitch Garver – 1-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 9th homer. Mitch don’t kill my vibe!

Marcus Semien – 3-for-4, 2 runs and a slam (10) and legs (14), hitting near-.300 in the last month, which is about the time when you should’ve been buying, which about the time I was saying to sell. Like a 13-year-old Grey, I did an oopsie with Semien.

Eddie Rosario – 1-for-4 as he was activated from the IL, after undergoing a laser eye procedure. Hopefully he starts hitting lasers on the field now.

Juan Yepez – 2-for-4 and his 11th homer, and his 2nd homer in three games. When Tyler O’Neill returns, Yepez is prolly gonna lose playing time. Then again, knowing the Cards, they’ll find some place for Yepez and he’ll continue to hit.

Conner Capel – 1-for-2, and his 1st major league homer. He’s absolutely a made-up person that the Cards created before the game. Says he has 15-homer power and 15-steal speed, if he were real, which he is not. Total fabrication.

MJ Melendez – 2-for-4 and his 7th and 8th homer. He’s gonna end the year with 17+ homers and you’re gonna be like, “Still the GOAT! Screw LeBron Melendez!”

Jake Odorizzi – 4 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 4.04, as he was activated from the IL. Astros are going to a six-man rotation for now, i.e., Odorizzi will be hurt again soon, so there’s no reason to make a hard decision.

Yordan Alvarez – 1-for-3, 2 runs and his 24th homer. Putting the woo in Captain Woo Cubano!

Hunter Greene – 5 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 6.01. About to start calling him Greene Land, because he’s a meltdown away from relevancy every time out. Each home run allowed is an ice cap with red snow from a whale’s blubber being mined for your goth lipstick.

Brandon Drury – 1-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 17th homer. Waiting for someone to reveal it’s all been a prank and Brandon Rural-Juror is actually Jonathan India and all of India’s owners get RJ’s stats.

Nick Senzel – 2-for-4 and his 2nd homer. He was last Friday’s lede Buy, did you. Dot dot dot. Listenzel?

Taijuan Walker – 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.86. While I (we?) wait for regression for Walker, he’s putting up a great ERA. Mean’s while, I’m rolling out there guys like Tarik having his Skubal’s kicked in.

Brandon Nimmo – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 6th homer. Nimmo found one!

Francisco Lindor – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 13th homer. Amazing what a difference being a steals contributor makes on the Player Rater. Lindor is easily a top 25 hitter overall, even with only a modest number of steals (9). You don’t need to be Berti. Though, being Berti sure doesn’t hurty.

Kevin Gausman – Next start is questionable, because he’s having trouble pushing off the rubber. My daddy never had that issue.

Alek Manoah – 5 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 8 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.33. Regression, fine, but vs. the A’s? *Lisa Simpson grumble* I’m too annoyed to talk about this.

Ramon Laureano – 2-for-3, 2 runs and his 5th homer, and third homer in the last week. Not sure how high his ownership numbers are, but he absolutely was a top 40 outfielder before the suspension, and not sure he’s not there again. I’m a landscape architect with all these hedges!

Cole Irvin – 8 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.35. AL-Only’ers rejoice! Everyone in mixed leagues who started him, you should have your head examined.

Byron Buxton – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 22nd homer. He’s giving me major FOMO and I’ve decided, after talking to my spirtual leader (my dog, Ted), I’m never doubting Buxton again. I will be excited about him, and let him burn me vs. me burning myself.

Dylan Bundy – 5 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 4.50, and pulled with 58 pitches. Can Rocco Baldelli tie his shoelaces while wearing those kid gloves? I’ve been streaming him for the last few weeks, and he’s gone 24 IP, 5 ER, and it’s worked out extremely well, but I keep hearing Kanye’s Ghost Town’s lyrics, “I put my hand on the stove, to see if I still bleed,” and touching a stove doesn’t make you bleed but that’s how I feel with Bundy. He’s going to backfire and make me bleed.

Johnny Cueto – 6 IP, 2 ER, 10 baserunners (5 BBs), 3 Ks, ERA at 3.30. He’s gone six innings in eight of nine starts, i.e., Cueto is the only thing that’s working for the White Sox in the last two years.

Jose Abreu – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 10th homer. He’s been fine (compared to Matt Olson), but the entire White Sox team is just so listless.

Liam Hendriks – 1 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 2.70, as he was activated from the IL. He pitched the 8th inning, but Tony La Russa was managing on July 4th. C’mon, you know he’s three Gavin Sheets to the wind.

Julio Rodriguez – 1-for-5, 2runs 2 RBIs and his 15th homer. He’s the only player in MLB history with 15+ homers, 15+ doubles and 20+ steals in his 1st 81 MLB games. Daddy bring me a new bib I’m going to droll.

Jose Iglesias – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 2nd homer. I actually took Iglesias out of my lineup for India and, boy, do I feel like a stooge. A regular old Curly.

Kyle Freeland – 5 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.43. Freeland losing on July 4th feels significant. Lucky he faced Urias, and not Ur-rights.

Trayce Thompson – 1-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 2nd homer. I love Trayce as the mom on Blackish.

Trent Grisham – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 8th homer, hitting .188. Grisham hasn’t just been bad. He’s been historically bad. He’s barely been worth rostering on NL-Only teams. Grisham, author of The Painmaker.

Chris Flexen – 6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 4.00. That’s a solid enough road start that I need to be a looky-loo at his stats–And they suck. I mean, Streamonator? Sure, but, in general, they suck the suckhole.

Sean Manaea – 3 1/3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 4.18. Manaea licks the tip of his pencil, scribbling down notes as he watches Jose Berrios.

Carlos Rodon – 5 IP, 4 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 2.87. He’s either great or injured, so what’s up with this? Wait, this doesn’t mean…he’s hurt, does it? Please don’t say that.

Garrett Hill – 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 baserunners, 3 Ks as he made his MLB debut. Nothing here yet, outside of AL-Only leagues, though I am interested in his weed-smoking brother, Cypress.

Josh Naylor – Hit his 11th homer, but left the game with back spasms. Ya know what’s funny in a non-funny way? Naylor has 70-grade power. He’s got a huge power bat. A very impressive mollywhopper. But most people? Don’t care. He gets no love from no one. Super unfunny, but true. Sometimes you people need truth.

Eric Lauer – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.84. If you didn’t start Lauer at home vs. one of the worst teams, then you prolly shouldn’t hold him anymore, which brings me to one small caveat with the Brewers and Lauer. That division is going to produce a lot of great matchups.

Justin Steele – 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 4.13. Hey, Steele, just super, man. His peripherals are actually better than you might think, but I’d still need to see a decent matchup before sending him out there, and the Streamonator and I, don’t like his next.

Seiya Suzuki – 2-for-4 and hs 5th homer, as he was activated from the IL. More like Hiya Suzuki!

10 team Weekly H2H – 6×5 – Standard + OPS

Give: Cole / Bell / Merrifield
Get: Mookie / Baz

Current Staff (punting saves): Cole, McClanahan, Wheeler, Webb, Morton, Javier, Strider, Skubal, Kirby, Cobb, Montgomery

Current 2b’s are Gleyber, Whit and Cronenworth.

**Keep 3 for one year. I already have plenty of keeper options (Vlad, Tatis, Bichette, Julio Rodriguez, Robert, or any of the pitchers – though I never keep pitchers) so the keeper aspect is not really a driving force.

Go for it or hold Cole?

Grey,

The Marlins turned OZUNA into Jazz and Alcantara, wow. May end up being the greatest slew of trades in Marlins history for a team that has had some of the worst trade in MLB History.

I watched most of the Marlins/Angels game. He’s unreal. Throwing 101+ in the 8th. Impeccable location. Surreal!!

Love you Grey!! Lol.

5×5 dynasty and comfortably in first but could make up some ground in RBI.

Trade Pablo Lopez (2 years left on a good, not great, contract) for Stanton (free agent after this year)?

Outfield is currently Acuna, S. marte, yepez, kiriloff, hanniger, bader, Pham, renfroe)

SP Bieber, Lopez, Webb, Gonsolin, Cortes, Pivetta, Wright, Gray,

Grey!

Long time.

I’m getting everyone back this week, so I have some decisions to make.

I’m in 9th and still in it, 8 games behind a Playoff spot with 10 total weeks so I’m not giving out hope.

Standard Yahoo H2H League. Will need to drop 3 bats or 1 SP:

C – Kirk
1B – Mountcastle
2B – India
3B – Devers
SS – Franco
OF – Ozuna
OF – Vaughn
OF – Greene
UTIL – Ohtani
UTIL – Andres Gimenez
DL – France
DL – O’Neill
DL – Eloy

Pitchers I could drop:

Houck, Scott, Soto, Seranthony
Skubal, JoMo, Baz, Manea

I don’t really want to drop any of my SP’s, even Skubal, but I get it. Decisions.

Also, would you drop any of those pitchers for Springs?

I’m thinking to activate all 3 drop Greene, Andres Gimenez, and either Vaughn or India.

I WANT to drop India, but are we completely out on him? Because he’s really done nothing but hurt me this season, 1-5 every game with absolutely no counting stats and I’m in a spot where I can’t keep waiting on him.

Thanks Grey!

Oh Grey

I have a second Q

I know Eloy will get hurt. I’ve never seen a player like him aside from a handful of guys like Steve Souza, David Wright, Byron Buxton, Mike Stanton, etc.

Should I try to trade him? Maybe package him and Gonsolin for a too 25 type guy? Like a Bo or a Freeman?

I’ve been trying to trade Gonsolin but can’t get any takers. If he can continue to do what he’s doing I don’t want to trade him but do we trust him? Because aside from the K rate which isn’t terrible he barley gives up any hits and I mash with Wins, ERA, and WHIP.

Just noticed in the earlier comments you endorsed a trade of Shane Mac for Bo. I agreed to a trade in a 16 team 6×6-I get

Bo
Joc Pederson
Jackson Chourio
Jeffrey Springs

He gets-
Shane Mac
Corbin Carroll

I took over this team a couple months ago and I’m in the middle of the pack whereas the other guy is in 3rd.

Good trade for the future?

Thanks,RICK

Profar, Nate Lowe, Yepez, Peralta, Pham, Santander, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Cutch

Looking to fill one spot with one of the above and would love some thoughts. Currently have Profar. Position not a huge issue as I have some roster flexibility. Of if you think there is another move to make, Im open to suggestions!

C Kirk
1 Cronenworth
2 Profar
3 Arraez
ss Bichette
IF Swanson
OF – Lou Bob, Amed Rosario, Yordan, Jarren Duran
UTIL – Paredes
BN – Bryan Reynolds, JD Martinez

Currently sitting at 3rd in a 10 team Yahoo Roto. My pitching is pretty lights out, but on offense I’m 3rd in runs, 6th in RBI, last in SBs, 6th in avg.

At this point I am pretty sure its not worth chasing steals (despite the presence of Duran at the moment)….Im 10 behind the 9th place mgr.

Thanks!

Trade offer – which side? It’s a standard roto league.

Luis Robert / Gausman for Trout

Robert’s counting stats haven’t met expectations – and he hits in the 3 hole. Runs scored are meh, power output not good, and hasn’t swiped many bags of late. ChiSox offense as a whole has been below expectations.

What about this one and is it a fair?

S. Marte & Gausman for Acuna?

Acuna’s power and rbi pace is way down. GB rate way up, LA, slugging and ISO way down too. I can’t say it’s rust. He has close to 300 at bats now.

NL-Only H2H

Hi Grey,

I added Mitch White yesterday for a streaming start today, but he got scratch and now Pepiot is going vs. COL (Marquez).

In his last 5 starts in AAA Pepiot’s gone 4.2, 4.2, 5, 6, and 4 innings (24.1 total) with a 34/12 K/BB and 6HBP. Lots of pitches are keeping him from completing 5.

Worth a shot to stream Pepiot in White’s place for a possible W and some Ks, with mediocre ratios today?

The problem with Cobb (and, overall, I am fan too — I posted his xERA in a reply to an earlier post) is that he doesn’t pitch that many innings. In his three starts since his extended IL stint, he’s gone 5 innings once and 4 innings twice. Even before his IL stint, he never went more than 6 innings (twice) with most starts around 5 innings.

In an innings cap league, this might be fine as his (K-BB)/9 is fairly good and his ratio likely to improve given his expected stats. But in game start cap leagues and/or leagues that emphasize Wins, his short starts really detract from his value …

Hey Grey – unfortunately the wheels are officially off and it’s time to sell for parts next season. Are there any good value (or injured) players I should be targeting for a Jared Walsh caliber player? We keep like 10+ players each season, and I’m looking to grab a younger high growth (growthy? girthy?) guy for a fringe keeper current performer.

Love you.

KC really doesn’t like Olivares all that much, do they? He’s out of the lineup again. I got him in a deeper league and was looking forward to seeing him get regular ab’s once he returned. Instead they are using him against lhp. It’s bad enough when they jockeyed him back and forth between aaa and the big club. Now he is up and not playing. Ugh. Kind of premature to say he can’t hit rhp in 39 pa’s. But their offense doesn’t need him I guess.

What’s good Grey? A couple of questions for you in a 12-team OBP keeper league.

(1) If/when Eloy gets back, who’s the drop out of Canha, Greene, Vaughn or Mancini?

I have an empty bench spot to fill…

(2) I could use it on a streamer. How would you rank Ashby, Roansy, Bello, Cobb, and White.

(3) Or I could use it to pick up someone like Gorman, Suarez, or Garcia and bench India till he figures his shizz out.

Say hi to Ted!

I’m back, after a 34 day hospital stay, for quadruple heart bypass surgery. It’ll be months to fully recovered, but I’ll have at least another 10 years of fantasy to add to my 30 years already. I missed you guys, hope everyone’s doing well

youngest i’ve heard of that happening, 30. oldest i’ve heard of was my great grandma, at 94. she didn’t live a lot longer though (97), which is pretty standard when you’re 94 regardless of health. unless you meant 30 years of fantasy not total life. either way, keep it going.

I have to choose between Yordan Alvarez and Shohei Ohtani to start the All Star game as DH. Is there a way to move one temporarily to the NL so I can vote for both?

Happy halfway thru the season.
A few trade scenerio’s here if you would be kind enough to comment on.

First one:

Gleybor and Vinnie Pasquantino for Biggio and Brian Reynolds.

Second one:

Witt Jr. and Vinnie P. for Reynolds and Buxton.

Third one:

Witt Jr., Vinnie P, Gleybor for Biggio, Reynolds, Buxton and Alcantara.

In each of these, which side do you like? Do you like one better than the others? are these close or lopsided offers?

As always thanks in advance

p.s. My NL MVP pick of the second half? Seiya Suzuki

1) I have Manaea in 4 leagues, and I don’t think he’s been as broken as mentioned in this thread. In his past 9 starts, his WHIP has been 1.17 or better; and he has had QS. For a team that scores like SD, that seems good enough for me. But the other two were brutal. So I’m not averse to losing him.
a) Should I keep Manaea or Jon Gray?
b) Should I keep Manaea or Alex Cobb?

2) Two other Keep decisions.
c) Should I keep Duran or Ahmad Rosario?
d) Should I keep Duran or Suzuki?

G-Moolah! G-Cheddah!

I enjoyed your tweets re: the greatest American cultural event of the year yesterday. No one stuffs water-logged carbs and meat tubes down the gullet better than us. NO ONE!! USA! USA! USA!

-I was entirely prepared to drop Suzuki yesterday, but then he actually hit the ball… now I want to see what he can do. Thinking about cutting Manaea in my 10 team to activate him. I’m sure if I do, he’ll be an ace ROS. Whatchoo think?

-Also Sandoval vs Jon Gray ROS?

-Alternative move could be to drop Suzuki, drop Manaea, and add Jon Gray. (Currently have 2 strong bench bats)

Thank youuuuu,
-IANASM

I find Ryan McMahon perplexing. Shouldn’t he be better than he’s been? After so many years, is he just a low-mid .200’s batter with moderate power and some speed? I always pegged him as being better, especially with Coors.

Walsh and Taylor Ward for Freddie

Or

Walsh and Taillon for Riley

Walsh has been a bit underwhelming this year, am I right to try and move him or stay patient here?

LeBron Melendez – Love it!

So yesterday I sent a question to which you asked why Hunter Greene is a keeper and Framber isn’t. We keep two pitchers (anyone), but we also do a prospect draft every allstar break (3 prospects each). Any three players selected specifically during that prospect draft can be kept for two more seasons after the draft. My 3 prospects right now are Kelenic (F#$%), Greene and Corbin Carroll (picking 3 more guys coming up).

Yesterday I was offered his Framber for my Greene by a guy who’s out of it this year (as am I). Pitchers in the mix for my 2 “regular” pitching keeper spots are Buehler, Giolito, Webb and Javier. My thinking was to turn it down since Greene may still figure it out next year, and Framber is probably a low ceiling “regular” keeper due to his Ks, though admittedly Buehler has me really worried.

Still think it makes sense to hold on Greene?

Grey, my only team this season has gone cold. I could use some assistance diagnosing needs. I’m in a 10-team 6×6 OBP. Feels like only Kirk and Marte have done anything for the past 3 weeks.

C – Kirk
1B – Kirilloff
2B – Edman
3B – JoRam
SS – Witt
OF – Robert
OF – Marte
OF – Walsh
UTIL – Adolis

Bench: Franmil (just picked him today after dropping Graveman)
IL: O’Neill

SP – McClanahan, P. Lopez, Lynn, Manaea, Baz, Kopech, Cobb, Sandoval, Mahle
RP – Diaz, Holmes

1- You see any obvious needs?

2- Should I pickup any of these bats over Franmil or Kirilloff? Best bats available: Hays, Blackmon, A. Rosario, Paredes, Yepez, Hoerner, Lourdes, Vaughn

3- Who to drop when O’Neill returns?

4- I couldn’t sell Lopez or Kopech… tried already. You see any other bats or arms to sell?

Thank you!

PS – Here are the drops that keep me up at night: Dansby, Drury, Javier ahh!!!

Looking for advice on who you would be willing to trade. 12-team keeper league. I have Witt Jr, Jeremy Pena, and Oneil Cruz. Looking for a move to help put me over the top and win it all this year. Of those 3, who would you be willing to part with if the trade was right?

I hear you about India. He is up to 118 PA’s and it’s been ugly. .083 iso and .565 ops. His walk rate is way down too. You just wonder how much longer he will be hitting in the top of order. I have him benched now although I did play him in a daily lineup league yesterday and got the usual from him…nothing. You mentioned that you still still like him rest of season as of last week. Has your opinion changed? He doesn’t have a very long track record. Thanks

Hey Grey

what are your thoughts on Bogarts? I want to move him for a pitcher if you have suggestions what you think would work.

Idk, his line:

47 6 31 3 .391

heres some bum on my fantasy team that i was thinking of dropping, i bet you cant guess who it is:

44 6 27 0 .356

Been working trades on a trade in a keep forever ever. Trying to balance win now w keeping this train rolling for years. I trade judge and happ for jazz and mcclanahan? I get younger but I usually like trading for the best player and judge wants his $$$. Is Shane o mac the best player here over judge?
Dos, first 2 drops out of Donaldson, Edwardo Escobar, nico hoerner jarren Duran, and yoan moncada in a points league.

12-team 5×5 redraft league…I have Wander, India, Luis Garcia and Mateo manning my MI and U slots. And Albies sitting on my bench. Not surprisingly, my offense is dragging my team down.

1) Is Albies worth holding onto in a redraft?

2) Can you rank the guys I have (mostly to determine who I should drop first/second/third)?

3) Guys like Stott, Wendle, LaStella, Schoop, Jace, Iglesias, Elvis, Matt Carpenter, Miguel Rojas, and Cavan are all available on the waiver wire. Add any to replace the guys I have?
