In exactly three weeks, we can begin to get excited about the Orioles again. Forget Gunnar’s bad season — his what season? I don’t know in three weeks. Can re-glimmerize Jackson Holliday. Can start thinking Mayo is cool and not just Michael Helman’s hot streak. Is Grayson returning at some point? Great! Dylan Beavers? Damn right! Bradish? Get on board-ish! Jeremiah Jackson? Actually, he might be more of a this season guy like Trevor Rogers. We’re supposed to be getting excited in three weeks about guys who were absent or bad. Has Tyler Wells been bad? Not, I guess not. Just non-existent. Perfect! Yesterday, Tyler Wells went 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 1 hit, 1 walk, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.31. This is how you want to return from Tommy John. Excuse me, your 2nd Tommy John. How many Tommy Johns is too many? Maybe a question for his wife. Wells’s value comes from his pinpoint control, something guys lose after Tommy John for short periods of time when they first return, and here Wells is with a 0.8 K/9. Can we get as excited about Wells as other O’s in three weeks? I think so! Only five of six will end up being disappointing. (Okay, maybe four in six.) Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Paul Skenes – 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, zero walks, 8 Ks, ERA at 1.92. That’s now 178 IP, 203 Ks and a 0.92 WHIP. Only six pitchers have finished a season with a qualified ERA under 2.00 and 200+ K since 2000. What a stupid great year. His career ERA is under 2.00. What a stupid great start to a career. Have we seen a career start like this before? In modern times?
Spencer Horwitz – 1-for-4 and his 8th homer, and the 8th time I’ve made the joke about him filing your tax extension!
Freddy Peralta – 5 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 2.69. FreddyKBB had his scoreless streak snapped at 30 innings and just to show he was serious about it, he allowed another four runs.
Brice Turang – 2-for-5, and a slam (18) and legs (24), hitting .289. More unlikely, Josh Naylor becoming Juan Pierre or Turang becoming Trea Turner? Prolly the first one still, but think about this: Do you think Turang will be drafted in the top 30 overall next year? If you answered no, why? If you answered yes, you move ahead to Free Parking.
Jackson Chourio – 1-for-5 and his 20th homer, hitting .278. Jack-Chou, God bless you!
Jake Burger – 2-for-3, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 15th and 16th homer, four homers in the last week. If you didn’t know Burger was ordering a side of hot schmotatoes, you should know by now, because I am literally saying it in an obtuse way.
Merrill Kelly – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 10 hits, zero walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.21. Pretty hideous tying his owners to the WHIPping post, but Kelly managed to escape with the Win, and Streamonator is meh on his next one, and I don’t trust him at all.
Phil Maton – 2/3 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 2.95, and his 4th save. Armstrong still appears to be the closer, but Phil Maton got the save because Phil Mabutt was busy. No! Because Armstrong worked out of a jam in the previous inning.
Kyle Manzardo – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 26th homer. Will he catch Pasketti in homers? Does anyone care but me? Why do I care? Have I forgotten? I have questions, y’all!
Logan Allen – 5 IP,2 ER, 7 hits, zero walks, 2 Ks, ERA at 4.43. Sure, but this was vs. the Royals at home, so it would’ve been a 3 IP, 6 ER against another team.
Bryce Harper – 1-for-4, 2 runs and his 25th homer. He’s so good; I am a big fan. Yet, it’s so funny Schwarber has twice as many homers as him. Schwarbs playing pinball on tilt.
Max Kepler – 3-for-4, 5 RBIs and his 16th homer, hitting .221, 2nd homer in a week, and the type to hit a schmotato patch for a week or two.
Cristopher Sanchez – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.57. Kinda surprised to see he only has 13 wins. 2.57 ERA and on a 98-ish win team? No one winning 20 games again or what?
Clay Holmes – 4 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 3.75. If I were the Mets, I might try to acquire some starters next year and not try to make, like, Tanner Scott a starter.
Juan Soto – 3-for-5, 2 runs and a slam (39) and legs (31), and missed his 40th homer by about six inches, or nine inches if a girl’s reading. He wants 40/40 so bad, but I wonder if he could go 50/50 or more if he started this in April.
MacKenzie Gore – Will be activated for today’s start vs. the Marlins. Why? I mean, okay, thanks for the heads up, but will avoid.
Eury Perez – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 hits, zero walks, 7 Ks, ERA at 4.67. I no longer trust Eury. He should be shut down. Not entirely sure why he hasn’t been. With all that said, this wasn’t the worst of starts for him. Home vs. the Nats should be better though.
Jakob Marsee -4-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI, hitting .336. Insane Maas Appeal.
Xavier Edwards – 3-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .282. The X-Man with the power of Jubilee, which X-Man dot com lists as “more of a morale booster.”
Taj Bradley – 6 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.88. After the game, Taj said, “I’m back on my shizz!” When asked to clarify, “Um, reading scouting reports.”
Byron Buxton – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 31st homer. The dream season continues, don’t wake him. [sees a snippet of his dream where there’s a janitor in a boiler room in a striped sweater] Is that Freddy Krueger? Crap! Wake him! Why’s Freddy going for his quad? Noooo!!!
James Outman – 2-for-3 and his 4th homer, and his 2nd homer in three games. Hot schmotato alert!
Zach Neto – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 26th homer, hitting .257. Imagine Neto in a pennant race and actually being motivated. Angels don’t deserve such a great player. In this house we support Zach Neto.
Yandy Diaz – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 23rd homer. Yandy looks like The Mountain and his official elevation is 23.
Junior Caminero – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 42nd homer. He’s gonna hit 12 homers next year when back in a MLB park again. Kidding. I hope.
Miguel Vargas – 1-for-4, 1 run as he was activated from the IL. Saw someone say he’s put together his best season so far: 14 HRs in 121 games, and to that I say, you better modify with “his.”
Andrew Benintendi – 1-for-4 and his 19th homer. Benintendi goes from zero to 60 (out of 100) and get him while the needle is near 50-ish.
Payton Tolle – 2 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 7.84. Rather than going to the mound, Alex Cora flipped a shrimp tail into his Benihana hat and screamed, “Ya cooked!”
Aroldis Chapman – 1/3 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 1.14. Gave up his first hit (and run) since July 23rd. A six-week no-hitter is absurd. No one could give him the props something like that deserves, but here’s some tidbits. It was 50 straight at-bats without a hit (he had four walks in that time, so basically one and half perfect games? Something like that). He had (past tense, but it’s not much worse now) the lowest BAA and OPS ever for a reliever in a season (he also had the third best from a different year).
Shea Langeliers – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 30th homer. Also, in this game, Nick Kurtz (2-for-4) hit his 30th homer. I reached out to Elias Sports Bureau to see if any teammates ever both hit their 30th homer in the same game before and they said, “Could you stop asking us stuff? We still haven’t processed your last request, ‘Has a teammate ever called their teammate daddy?'”
Tommy Edman – 1-for-4, 1 run as he was activated from the IL. Edman will manage to be less valuable than you think he will for fantasy while also making other guys in the Dodgers’ lineup also less valuable (Pages down to the eight hole? What on earth), while somehow being valuable for real baseball.
Teoscar Hernandez – 1-for-5 and his 24th homer, and 3rd homer in two games. It’s Teoscar season early in Hollywood! Actually, I did go to my first Oscar movie screening last night; I saw Kiss of the Spider Woman, they remade it (meh) and J. Lo was there waving to the crowd. Tried to ask her if she still drinks Dunkin, but her people waved a cattle prod at me.
Blake Snell – 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 2.79. If the Dodgers faced the Rockies in the playoffs, I’d like their chances!
Mookie Betts – 4-for-5, 5 RBIs and his 18th homer, and 3rd homer in four games. Mookie Best!
Andrew Abbott – 8 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.79. Can’t believe he’s still got it going. Regression Fairies next year are going to dump an 8+ ERA on him in April, then he’s gonna need arm surgery. You can duck and hide so long.
Fernando Tatis Jr. – 2-for-4 and his 21st homer. This was his first homer in two years. No, 2nd homer in a week! Sorry, I didn’t realize he’s been so good. He has a whole eight homers since May.
Nick Pivetta – 7 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 2.73. Actually kinda similar to Abbott, but I think Pivetta’s paid his Regression Fairies dues for so many years leading up to this, that this year’s his repayment.
Kerry Carpenter – 1-for-2, 2 RBIs and his 24th homer, as he entered as a pinch-hitter later in the game. Wonder if he came in to face a righty or lefty.
Riley Greene – 1-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 33rd homer. Can we get 40 next year? If being real, I wouldn’t mind 30 homers again and getting back to stealing bags.
Jack Flaherty – 5 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 4.69. He’s gonna be so fantasy baseball sleeper’d this offseason that he’s not gonna be a sleeper anymore.
Carlos Rodon – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.11. Another stellar performance by a Yankees’ starter and the bullpen, which they masterfully built up at the trade deadline, stuck its butt out and did wet farts for an hour straight.
Ivan Herrera – 1-for-4 and a slam (15) and legs (7), hitting .279. He’s sitting on 14 games played at catcher. Can we get at least six more? Please.
Luis Garcia – Hit the IL with elbow discomfort, that’s two starts after he returned from Tommy John surgery. That’s answering the question, “How bad is this?”
Jason Alexander – 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 hits, 1 walk, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.19. That the Astros unlocked George Costanza is one of the most ludicrous flexes. Send them Kevin Kramer and see what they can get out of him!
Carlos Correa – 2-for-4 and his 13th homer, and his career 200th homer. “I’d like to thank dnbaijanowuiw–” That was the trash can trying to read a thank you speech.
Yainer Diaz – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 19th homer, hitting .256. More troubling (is any of this actually troubling?) he’s down to hitting 8th. He’s fallen out of favor in Houston, and I don’t blame them.
Ketel Marte – Left the game, limping, and I don’t think it was him practicing his pimp limp. No, they’re saying it was a foot contusion and he’s day-to-day.
Andrew Saalfrank – 1 1/3 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 1.40, as he pitched the 9th inning in a 5-2 game, a save chance he created, so he doesn’t get a save and I can’t win.
Geraldo Perdomo – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and a slam (18) and legs (25), hitting .284. How early do you draft this guy next year? First, I should say that he’s currently in the top 25 overall on the Player Rater. Not top 25 middle infielders. That’s out of everyone. He’s been better than Pete Alonso, Zack Wheeler, Vlad Jr., and Devers, to name just a few who were close behind him who might surprise you.
Eduardo Rodriguez – 6 1/3 IP, o ER, 4 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 4.98. There’s no way you can start him with any kind of confidence.
Jameson Taillon – 4 1/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 4.15, as he was activated from the IL. Jameson Whiskey Hotel Foxtrot Taillon, where ya been? [sees a groin strain] Oh, TMI. I’d be hesitant about Streamonator with him, so be careful.
Carson Kelly – 2-for-5 and his 17th homer. It feels like that’s in 17 at-bats. It’s not, but it feels that way.
Andrew Kittredge – 1 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 3.45 and the save. Yes, I called it! I knew it was gonna be him and not Keller! (Watch the next save go to Keller.)
Anthony Rizzo – Officially retired. Can’t believe he retired before Kris Bryant and Javier Baez. They both had the fortunate (unfortunate?) luck of having long-term deals. Oh well, once more into the abyss for the recently-retired: HR to the Izzo! Only this time it’s Human Resources, since he needs to find a job.
two things.Skenes is a TJ surgery waiting to happen. And 2 ,have you ever watched Riley Greene run.He will never be a plus in stolen bases because he’s still wearing the bracket from his first year when he broke his foot.He runs lopsided .Get rid of the brackets
I love baseball, but I am looking forward to the end of fantasy season. More specifically, I am looking forward to not having to check the O’s box score and see Gunnar do nothing. I am so tired of it.
next year is going to be so good when we don’t have him anywhere
I keep hearing King Nothing in my head when i check the box. A good day has turned into a 1 for 3 with a walk, no rbi or run of course. That hit is usally only a single too. So depressing.
Langeliers and Kurtz hitting #30 in the same game is something. But on 4/13/2009, Paul Konerko and Jermaine each hit their 300th career homers. Back to back.
Cmon!
Are you using weathers today? He was pretty solid before going down with the flexor strain again. I asked this question in the wrong post originally. Thanks
I am
No problem
Who do you like more: Darvish vs Col or Priester vs Stl (Pallante)? Wins and ratios are the concern.
Priester
You like Priester more than Pablopez vs AZ (Pfaadt)?
I do
Uhh. Someone, in desperation, just dropped Story in my 12t points league. Drop Colson Montgomery or Jorge Polanco to pick him up?
Yes, colson
One more for you. Need to drop two for SP streams. Can you put these in order of ‘Who to drop first?’
Vientos, Polanco, Adell, Bell, Bader
Bader, Vientos
Bell,Bader
Do you trust any of these for a two-start week:
Abbot at St. Louis, vs. Cubs
Early vs. Athletics, at Tampa
Schlittler at minn, at Balt.
Sure, Abbott’s been great and Cam’s been solid
Picked up Jake Burger and Xavier Edwards yesterday for some infield help. Why are the villagers weighing me next to a duck?
HAHA
Scoboticus turned me into a newt
HAHA
Had some time this morning and sorted players by XBH to look for outliers of guys who could be due for a little more power next year. Ohtani leads all hitters with 77 XBH and has 48 HRs. Brent Rooker on the other hand is only 7 XBH behind at 70, but only has 27 HRs. Witt Jr has 67 XBH and 21 HRs. It’s not a perfect comparison, but gives me a short list of guys to look into a little more. Especially with guys like Rooker who aren’t known for blazing speed to leg out singles into doubles.
One thing that caught my eye was Corbin Carrol is only 2 XBH behind Ohtani at 75 XBH. I feel like we “complain” about Carrol not having as many stolen bases as we expect, but could it just be that he doesn’t have as many opportunities to steal a base? of his 75 XBH 16 are triples! For an imperfect comparison he has 10 more XBH and has an OBP roughly 20 points lower than Witt Jr. and is still only 9 SB behind him. It’s also fair to point out he only had 11 SB in the first half and absolutly 0 in June. He’s really turned it on on August with 8.
Just some rambling about how I wasted my time this morning!
Witt and Rooker seem like solid buy low guys for 2026 too — Corbin could have 100 steals if Juan Soto has 31
Tight playoff matchup. Can you give me a simple go / no go as to whether you’d stream these guys? With the biggest goal of protecting ERA/WHIP ratios & hoping for 1-2 QS
M Keller (@ WSH)
Baz (@CHC)
Elder (HOU)
Cavalli (PIT)
M Keller (@ WSH) Yes
Baz (@CHC) no
Elder (HOU) no
Cavalli (PIT) yes
Thx – Add Ginn to the mix vs. CIN
Meh
Chandler Simpson can’t get on base now. I really needed that boost in steals. Maikel Garcia stopped running. So did abrams. I then see soto with 31. Naylor with 25. It drives me crazy.
Ha, I hear ya
Hey Grey,
A. Extremely behind in my H2H playoff matchup after the Bergert bomb on Monday. Ready to be put out of my misery but given there’s still a chance, who should I start – looking for the most upside:
Bello vs NYY
Slade vs CHW
Seymour @CHW
B. On the offensive side, it’s do or die, who are the top 3 I should roll with…
Wood vs PIT
Lile vs PIT
Laureano vs COL
Merrill vs COL
Jackson @TOR
Teel @CLE
Slade
Lile, Merrill, Laureano
Do you think it’s a big risk if I audible out to Bello vs NYY (given he’s been good against them this year, and I’m anxious about Slade’s inconsistency)?
Another option I didn’t notice before is Darvish vs COL. Also Elder and Waldrep vs HOU. Would any of those be the top start?
Yu vs COL seems best, but talk about unreliable
No, it’s close enough
Dwight Gooden far exceeds Paul Skenes (2 years). ERA 2.00. 544K. 41 Wins; etc.
Yeah, he was nutty good, ha…Skenes was been special tho
Pitch David Peterson in Philadelphia today?
Doesn’t seem great
I’ve got two acquistions left for the rest of the week to use on streamers for H2H points league playoff matchup. Some interesting choices available.
Tanner Bibee vs CHW
Yu Darvish vs COL
Casey Mize @ Mia
Aaron Nola vs KC
Cade Cavalli vs Pit
Yu and Bibee
Seemed like the obvious choices, but just thought I’d double check with the Fantasy Master Lothario
No problem
Turang- 50 steals last year, on the cusp of 20 dongs this year… and he’s only 25 years old, with 433 MLB games in the books. And he’s been good for a long time, coming into the league as a top 20 pick (bonus trivia: he has a MLB dad, college softball star mom, and four sisters who are NCAA athletes). He’s already the top 2B this year and he is poised to be a top-20 player next year (if he doesn’t get there in the next two weeks, currently ranked #27 in Yahoo).
Trea Turner turns 33 next year… I think I’d rather have Turang.
Yes! Agreed, love it
Keller was brought in to face the top of the order in the 8th.Doesn’t mean he’s ahead of Kittredge, but thought it was worth noting.
Well, he is ahead of Kittredge…as in relieved in front of him! Bam! No, I have no idea, it could be Keller next time, as I say in the post
Haha. Got me. Wasn’t trying to call you out. Just thought I’d add some context. Luckily, the league I have Keller rostered give 4 points for a hold and 5 for a save. Don’t have to sweat it either way.
Nah, I got ya, No problem
Truth is I don’t know who will get next save fro Cubs
Could be Hodge
Or me
Unlikely me
You make trash can “jokes” like 4 out of every 5 days. zzZzzZzzz
Gonna make them 5 out of 5 for Bill Cancun
Some people can’t handle the truth. I’d love to see 2 or 3 a day.
Haha
Julio is 6/12 with 2 Homeruns vs. Soriano yet he is at 5.4 according to the bot! And then Alvarez is 0/12 vs. Gausman but is at 22.9! Me thinks the bot is drunk.
Haha
Grey,
your top 3?
Bradish @CHW; NYY
Flaherty CLE; ATL
Gausman @KC; @TB
Horton @Pit; @Cin
Leiter @Hou; MIA
Schlittler @Min; @Bal
Bradish, Flaherty, then coin flip, I guess Horton
I tried to sell Perdomo hard all through the season and never even got a counter offer. Sometimes it’s the trades you don’t make. Next year how high do you think he’ll be ranked?
Yup! I think maybe around 80 to 100 overall? He’ll be a steal
I’m down to 130 innings left to utilize in my league. I have some good pitchers rostered, like Yamamoto, Skubal, and Woo, As such, I’d like to make the most out of these innings. It’s a points league where efficiency matters, so walks and hits allowed hurt.
A) would you start Ian Seymour today at the White Sox? I see he’s a -$3.90 on the SON, but I didn’t know how much value a win was on, as I thought he’d go three innings or so. That said, three efficient innings has a lot of value in this league.
B) Hurston Waldrep has a -$12.3 vs Houston and then -$3.30 at the Nationals. Because this is a keeper league, and given my innings limit, is he worth stashing on my bench with the idea that he can be kept for next year? Is he someone you’re looking at possibly taking a big step forward next year?
A. Yes B. Don’t know anything about your league, but Waldrep looks like a possible #4 in a 12 teamer
Caminero hit his 20th HR on the road yesterday, but yeah, the rest of his splits are a joke away. Still, he just turned 22 in July, so where do you think you might rank him for 26?
Seems like he’s gonna be a in the top 20, maybe top 15
The Top 25 on the RAZZBALL PLAYER RATER with their RCL ADP March17-26 (24 drafts):

21 Corbin Carroll 10
22 Trevor Story 268 (17 drafts)
23 Byron Buxton 213
24 Carlos Rodon 144
25 Hunter Brown 109
Five newcomers (BOLD) this week. Story is making his first appearance in the top 25. Perdomo and Brown return after missing last week. Buxton has been absent the last 4 weeks. Rodon is back for the first time since the 4th of July. Soto is now $3.00 out of the top 3. On August 22 he was $16.10 behind Raleigh in 3rd.
KNOCKED OUT
26 George Springer 217
28 Pete Alonso 33.5
30 Zack Wheeler 28
32 Christian Yelich 97
33 Nathan Eovaldi 206(23)
This is awesome, Vin! Story and Perdomo are so nuts in there
Andddd there’s a reason that one team in our 15-team LABR style league is running a clean sweep of the hitting categories, with Soto, Raleigh, Perdomo, Turang, Bellinger, Bichette and not to mention Acuna
Snell earned the Dodgers’ 5th entry on the 100 Best Fantasy Starts list:
25 Tyler Glasnow Sep 8 vs COL
29 Emmet Sheehan Aug 25 vs CIN
88 Blake Snell Sep 10 vs COL
94 Yoshinobu Yamamoto Apr 18 @TEX
95 Yoshinobu Yamamoto Apr 11 vs CHC
It is the 12th time the Rockies appear as the opponent.
Haha, nice
Looked up some pitchers with great career starts for comparison:
G (GS) IP ………………………Years……..(AGE)……..REC ERA/WHIP K (K/9)
53 (53) 311.0 Paul Skenes 2024-2025 (22-23) 21–12 1.94/0.932 373 (10.8)
66 (66) 494.2 Dight Gooden 1984-1985 (19-20) 41–13 2.00/1.013 544 (9.9)
57 (49) 392.2 Vida Blue 1969-1971 (19-21) 27–9 2.36/1.008 360 (8.3)
Skenes is doing something we’ve never seen before…Kinda crazy
Edwards hit .126 with 1 SB and 0 HR since August 15. So, I drop him, and he goes 3 for 5 with a HR.
You too!? I thought I was the only one with that kind of luck
Ha
Haha, ouch
Hi Grey,
Definitely need your magic.
93 innings left.
1. Would you start Cam Schlittler at home vs Detroit?
I have Yelich in LF and Buxton in CF.
In RF and DH, I can choose between Stanton, Adell, Brandon Lile and Roman Laureano.
2. Which two would you select for RF and DH or is it matchups?
3. Which one would you drop for a SP?
Thanks!
I hit .400 with like homers in one of my Bye week leagues. FAAAAAK.
I have 1 home run but am hitting .330 with 6 RBI in my current playoff league. Oy Vey.
That same league my opponent has X so with all the bitching ive been doing nothing should surprise you.
Oh no, damn
Grey!!!!
Awesome!!
Rodney Dangerfield quote of the day for September 11, 2025
My old man, no respect! For Halloween he told me to put a pair of jockey shorts over my head and go out as an ass.
– No Respect (1980)
Cheers,
Ante
Haha, thanks!
Points league chasing K’s and QS
Need one:
Kolek @ CLE
Messick vs CWS
Cavalli vs PIT
Thanks as always!
Oviedo @ BAL, Kikuchi @ SEA and Weathers vs WSH are also on the table. It’s a big table. Maybe give me top 2-3 you’d target?
Messick and Weathers and Cavalli
Messick
Jeff!!!!1!
Amazing!!!!!n!
Everything is amazing! LOL
