What transpired this preseason: Coolwhip reached out to me to see if I was going to write a Nestor Cortes sleeper, because he liked him and wanted to write one. I said, “Nah, I don’t think I’m going to write one, but I like him too!” What Coolwhip didn’t know, what no one could’ve known, I hadn’t looked at Nestor Cortes at all. I said I liked him because Coolwhip said he liked him. Then I waited for Coolwhip to give us his Nestor Cortes sleeper, and, after he did, I said, “Yeah, exactly, that’s what I would’ve wrote too!” Stats and image provided by Coolwhip:
“(M)ain thing to note is in 2021 Nestor started 14 games. Before that, he had only started a grand total of… (carry the 1… multiply by square root…) 2 games. 2 games, that’s it. So this was a bit of a new foray for him. It’s not often that you go from the pen to starting and your numbers improve drastically. Not just a little mind you; but by every conceivable measure, he got better. His K-rate went up, BB-rate went down, and he cut home runs in half while suppressing hard contact and limiting runners.”
Nestor did this by scrapping the sinker and curve, and replacing them with a cutter. Also, he varies his release point a lot, like nearly every pitch. I half expect him to throw right-handed occasionally. Yesterday, Nestor Cortes (5 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 12 Ks, ERA at 0.00) threw an immaculate 4th inning, and changed his release on nearly every pitch. This is magic:
Nestor Cortes. Immaculate Inning. ? pic.twitter.com/WTJLVwOXv5
— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) April 17, 2022
In 9 1/3 IP this year, Nestor Cortes has 17 Ks. That’s in two starts, or one Nolan Ryan start. Pardon me while I put my eyes back in my head. Nestor Cortes’s 16.4 K/9, 0.96 BB/9 and -0.26 FIP is pretty good, if you’re lacking for adjectives. You really have to be impressed with Nestor so far this year, he’s looking as brilliant as me blindly agreeing with Coolwhip. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Bruce Zimmermann – 5 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 0.00. Fun fact! Bruce Zimmermann is on Jakob Dylan’s fantasy team that he named Daddy’s Love. As for Zimmermann, even if the Streamonator liked a matchup of his, I’m not sure I could start him.
Jorge Mateo – 3-for-4, 1 RBI and his 3rd steal, hitting .267. He was Friday’s Buy lede. I was a very Natty Boh!
Javier Baez – Hit the IL with thumb soreness. So, that’s where thumbkin is!
Matt Manning – Sounds headed to the IL with shoulder discomfort. Damn, it was because I picked him up to stream, wasn’t it? That leaves only me to blame, ’cause Ma-Ma tried, Ma-Ma tried.
Casey Mize – Diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament sprain in his elbow. It sounds not great, i.e. Sir Mize could be out a while.
Daz Cameron – Was called up, as predicted here three days ago. Just told you to grab him in Friday’s Buy, and today I’m telling you why. He is very similar to his daddy — 20/20/.220 incoming? Daz queen! Will he keep a job after Grossman returns? Naz queen. Yikes, Naz queen sounds like some Leni Riefenstahl garbage.
Thairo Estrada – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and his 2nd homer. Giants have roughly 15 hitters for nine spots, and even if some of them received everyday playing time their stats wouldn’t get markedly better. Somehow they have 15 guys who would give you 15-18 HRs and .270 in 300 ABs or 600 ABs. Alas, for you, I will monocle Thairo.
Brandon Belt – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .345. That’s “SHE” on an upside down calculator, so Belt is for, like, a pantsuit?
Alex Wood – 5 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 1.93. I’m a Giant idiot for not drafting all Giants starters in every league.
Patrick Corbin – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 7.50. This start was vs. the Pirates, who were benching their top bats, which is just an inherently funny thing to say. Streamonator thinks Corbin’s next start is equally funny but this time laughing at him.
Hyun-Jin Ryu – 4 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 13.50, and hit the IL with forearm inflammation. Same, but my injury came from not being able to drop Ryu quick enough.
Michael Kopech – 5 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 1.00. Might only get 75-100 IP from him as a starter, but *rubs hands together* sign me up!
Gavin Sheets – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 1st homer. That’s to Sheets to the Windy City team.
Carlos Carrasco – 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 0.84. Said this last week and on the podcast (I believe — hey, I say a lot of shizz here), but the Mets will have one ace this year. Who it will be might come down to who stays healthy. So far, Carrasco’s looked as good as any.
Pete Alonso – 1-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer. Albombso!
Ian Anderson – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 6.48. Thankfully, he bounced back. Partially for Anderson, but more importantly for me. Now I don’t have to field a shizzton of “Should I drop Ian Anderson” questions.
Spencer Strider – 3 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 3 walks, zero hits, 3 Ks, ERA at 1.00. I’m about to only roster Jhoan Duran, Will Crowe and Spencer Strider and be done with all other pitching.
Marcell Ozuna – 1-for-4 and his 4th homer, hitting .318. Hopefully, if Ozuna leads the majors this year, it’s not a feel-good story, because, if it is, things have gotten really bad.
Yu Darvish – 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 6.28. Solid bounce back start for Yu. Don’t turn to a mirror. I’m talking about Darvish.
Sonny Gray – Left Saturday’s game with hamstring tightness. Welcome to my Ted Talk, where I address God and discuss why hamstrings should be looser. By the way, how embarrassing would it be if I did a Ted Talk for just God and he no-showed? Brutal L.
Tanner Houck – 5 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.00. Why does it feel like everyone I told you to draft, and wrote sleeper posts about, are guys you want to abandon literally after one start?
Nick Senzel – Hit the IL without a designation. Ooh, so mysterious. I wonder what he’s got. Does it rhyme with Movid?
Hunter Greene – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 hits, zero walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 4.35. Greene threw 57 fastballs and they averaged 100.2 MPH. Grey goes boing.
Tyler Mahle – 3 2/3 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 5.68. “Benched Hunter Greene and started Tyler Mahle.” — Famous quote from a guy sobbing in a public bathroom stall.
Julio Urias – 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.86, and regained some of that lost velocity from his first start. If there’s no underlying injury, I imagine we’ll start to see a lot of velocity regained as weather heats up and pitchers are more up to speed, literally.
Andrew Heaney – 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 0.00. Leave it to the Dodgers to fix this ess-oh-bee. Welp, I’ve seen enough. I grabbed him in one league where he was still available, and I’m fine with you doing the same.
Steven Matz – 5 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 3 hits, zero walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 7.27. Stevenabench!
Aaron Ashby – 4 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners (4 BBs), 4 Ks, ERA at 1.00. Super meh start that was helped by a Wong error (a Wrong?) that caused Ashby’s runs to be unearned. Still like Ashby, and would try him for another start.
Taylor Ward – 1-for-3, 1 run as he hit third. Half the time that Joe Maddon is managing I think he’s doing a bit. Yesterday’s bit? I don’t know, maybe he thinks it’s funny to confuse people with Taylor Ward and Tyler Ward (2-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI and his 2nd steal). If the Angels promote two more guys named Waylor Tard and Wyler Tard, then we know it’s a bit.
Mike Trout – After getting hit on the hand, he left the game. X-rays were negative and he’s day-to-day. For Trout, that’s today to a day in 2023.
Adolis Garcia – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer, hitting .152. Started slow–OR HAS HE?! Eff me, Mr. Reversal Question, you scared the crap out of me. Frequent commenter, BAC, mentioned the other day that Adolis has shown a new approach so far — walks way up, and Ks down. Those things haven’t stabilized yet, but it’s good to see it.
Seiya Suzuki – 1-for-3 and his 4th homer. Absolutely cackling at people who were saying in the preseason Suzuki didn’t have power. In fairness, I was ready to accept a 25/10 season from him. Now we might get that by the break.
Ryan McMahon – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 1st homer. Frequent fast starter, Ryan McMahon, is using the crockpot vs. the microwave so far this April.
Trevor Rogers – 1 2/3 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 12.15. Speaking of guys I told you to draft, well, I did reluctantly tell you to draft Trevor Rogers, but I kinda wish I had told you not to, and I ranked him much later than his ADP. His innings last year truly worried me, and I’m still worried. Hopefully, after his next start, Mr. Rogers doesn’t have me puKing Friday.
Elieser Hernandez – 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.22. What kind of faith do you have Trevor Rogers will be more valuable than Elieser this year? 50%? What happens if Rogers throws a bad start next time out? 30%? Yet, you drafted Rogers about 200 picks before Elieser.
Bryce Harper – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer. Also, in this game, Kyle Schwarber (2-for-4) hit his 2nd homer. There wasn’t a lot of homers yesterday. You’d think we’d see more rise on Easter. At least from Jesus Sanchez or Jesus Aguilar.
Zack Wheeler – 3 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 9.39. *looks up to the heavens* Thank you so much for not letting Wheeler fall far enough in drafts that I was even tempted.
Byron Buxton – Day-to-day with a “nothing serious” in his knee. Twins are in a tough spot. You don’t want to rush Buxton back out there, but he’s only going to get 90 games played this year, and you don’t want 90% of those games to be at 85%, because then you might only get 50% of Buxton. Still, that’s some Bux, not a ton, palindromically.
Bailey Ober – 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.27. He was also a preseason sleeper. This B.O. doesn’t stink.
Michael Wacha – 5 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 2 walks, 5 Ks, ERA at 0.96. Streamonator hates Wacha’s next start, but it’s in Tampa, which doesn’t scare me much — oh, no, Ji-man Choi, please don’t hurt me! — and now I likely just jinxed Wacha and reverse-jinxed Choi. You’re welcome.
Mitch Haniger – Hit the IL with Covid-19. Everyone always said he had an infectious personality. Now I get it.
Matt Brash – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 8 baserunners (6 BBs), 5 Ks, ERA at 3.38. Spinning out like one of those onomatopoeias from the old Batman TV show is BRASH! Spinning out is another word that we don’t see because it goes far left. Then spinning out is NO COMMAND and that goes high. As I said when Brash was a hot pickup in the first week, he’s going to roofie us, because he has no command.
Ty France – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 2nd homer. Freedom fly!
Jose Urquidy – 4 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 7.00. 180 degrees from Brash is Urquidy, who could stand to waste a few more pitches. He stays on the plate more Daniel Vogelbach.
Ryan Pressly – Hit the IL with knee inflammation. Send a sympathy card for the people who have rostered Hector Neris in the past and went back and grabbed him again for vulture saves. They’ve lost their mind, and you should send your condolences. Dusty said he’d use a committee, and I grabbed Ryan Stanek in a few leagues, but it was less that I wanted Stanek, or think he’ll get saves, and more because I didn’t want Hector Neris. Bullpen chart is updated.
Justin Verlander – 8 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 0.69. That ERA is the 2nd best thing Verlander is 69’ing.
Hi Grey,
10 tm h2h weekly pts for ROS
Cobb just hit the IR, drop him for Verlander?
THANKS!
or grab Clevinger?
Got a trade offer. I get Machado and give up Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt off to a slow start, but put up better numbers than Machado last year. Cards lineup probably better too. Who do you like in this deal?
Had no idea “rol” was Spanish for “my nuts,” but that’s just what Brusdar is grating.
Down goes Altuve. Infieldpocalpse continues.
@Grey – wasn’t there used to be a column for SAGNOF that analyzed catchers that give up the most SBs for upcoming steals goodness? Wondering if I missed it or if it doesn’t exist anymore
previous (possibly current) sagnof guy alternated posts between that and bullpen updates.
Drop Voit for schwindel or nate lowe or keep voit and Drop wong for kike, madrigal, mateo or hoerner or keep wong? Thanks!
ahahaha, NOW nola gets the regression on strand rates, while allowing lead off or near lead off hits in 4/5 of the innings, 2 of them doubles. funny to almost be rooting against him as i benched him first time this year.
and stassi seems to be turning into OBP wolf lite. lots of BB’s, which is better than most catchers.
Ugh. First India, now Franco? Make it stop!
Also India out until “at least” Friday. I tolja – hammies are a bitch.
Yeah, sucks…
i love that CIN is finally figuring out what the rest of us thought was likely back on thurs. and probably by this thurs will back date DL him, finally. at least they aren’t pulling the old WAS idea of giving him a pinch hit appearance on like wed (technically this still could happen though), so they just end up wasting 7+ days. WAS used to do this on harper/rendon/others all the damn time.
Trevor Rogers is going to be fine. Isn’t he?
Hunter Greene is going to be more than fine. Everyone who can throw 100 mph without really straining is always overrated anyhow. But that slider though….
Hope so!
Asking for a friend. Suppose said friend foolishly grabbed all three non-Trout Angels outfielders — Adell, Marsh, Ward — and needed to drop one of them. Which Angel outfielder is, well, out? Thanks!
Marsh
Insert “Angels in the outfield” joke here.
Especially on Easter.
Grey
earlier I asked if you would drop Gleyber for any of the following
what I neglected to mention is that Gleyber is not used as my SS or 2nd Base
basically Utilty
would you drop him now for
taylor ward
Thairo Estrada
joc pederson
soler
McCutchen
thanks
Can try Ward
Wander late scratch. Sticks head in oven….
Eff me
at least it’s TB, i doubt we’ll be here by sat still wondering if he’ll be playing monday like say india/CIN. TB is ran smart and likes it’s extra RP depth (and extra platoon bats) it can obtain if say w.franco is set to miss at least 6ish games. CIN of course continues to play k.farmer daily (now almost going on a year or so)
Start or sit Nola at Rockies?
Do it… LFG!!
Haha
Sit
In classic Reds fashion, India remains dtd and is missing his 4th straight game. They said he may be able to play after missing only one game. FYI, they said the same thing about Moustakas last year. How many games did he miss?
Haha, 3 months?
They’ll wait until he misses 10 days before deciding if he needs an IL stint
Yup
yeah CIN in the bottom 3rd of teams doing this stupid stuff. nothing beats LAA though on trout last year (or that time they called g.richards’ torn elbow tendon “dehydration” for 2.5 days or so before saying what that really was). and it’s hard to beat how awful WAS has been on these in the last 5ish years.
Which one to lose? Soto, Rainey, or bard
Bard
Hello My old Friend,
So nice to back in the Baseball world again& Ihope you and yours are well.
A little advice if you would my outfield consisted of
Haniger, Arozarena & Adolis Garcia & Ohtani in my Utility Spot
Varsho-C, Freeman-1B, Escobar/Schoop-2B Boegarts @SS & Manny M.-3rdB
I picked up Owen Miller for Rookie Nookie and he looks good & Mercado off the wire once Hanger went down.
Pitching is strong- but who should I grab here- Taylor Ward, Brandon Marsh or Mateo? was going to drop Schoop for oneofthem ( never been a fan of him even though he usually gives you something but I went after 2B late…
Who would you grab and or/ grab 2 to drop who?
Appreciate you as always and hope you enjoy a dacqurie on me! :)
Ed
Good to see you!
Ward, or Mateo over Miller, depending needs
@Grey: weekly roto. who do you like this week between:
josiah gray – vs ari, vs sf
framber – vs laa
thanks!
Framber
So, I went to add Puk because Trivino is on the Covid List, only to find Puk is too.
Ha, speculating past that is like…Um…hmmm
Yeah, I picked up a hitter instead.
The “Big 4” on the Reds (Votto, Pham, Moustakas, and Aquino) are batting a combined .093! They are an unbelievable 11 for 118 with 52K’s.
No question here, just commiserating. Thanks for all you do.
Haha, yup!
Need a fill in for India until Baez comes back later this week. Profar or Eduardo Escobar? Thank you
Profar
10 team league, 6X6 with OPS … whats your order of these three catchers:
Kirk, Murphy, Bart, Elias Diaz
Drop Bo Bichette for Dante Bichette?
Haha, yes!
One more Grey…super deep league
Brian anderson or the anaemic j.candelario?(trying to give candelario the benefit of doubt hitting in det and kic where it’s still 30degrees.
Jeimer
Would you say that perhaps Steven Kwan’s run has come to an end? Was thinking of dropping him for someone like Jorge Mateo as I could use the speed factor for my team.
I have Eloy JImenez, Kyle Tucker and Taylor Ward as other outfielders soon to be joined by Randy Dandy Arozerena when a trade processes. So far my team is underperforming big time but trying to change that.
It is a 5×5 12 team Yahoo roto league.
Thoughts?? Thanks.
Haha, already? What, one game without a hit? You can lose him if you want, he’s just an AVG guy anyway
Barely a week later…. Cold blooded
it’s 3 WHOLE games with no hits. 2/3 of those with a BB though. turns out you aren’t gifted top OBP in the league after 5 games since one guy set records in his first 5 games for OBP. anchoring is real.
Lothario do you think o Neil Cruz gets called up this week?
I haven’t heard that
When do you think he gets called up? I thought 15 games he has to sit to get the extra year of service time. Would you stash him in a ten team league
I have no idea, not guessing with the Pirates…He should be up already…So maybe June?
Cruz is making it easy for the Pirates to keep him down in AAA. He’s batting only .219/.344/.650 with no home runs, 4 RBI and 3 steals. Does have 2 doubles and a triple though. SSS alert (32 at bats).
Oh, and Cruz only has one start in the outfield in AAA (out of 9 games) so the Pirates are full of s*it.
that last part really sucks as that actually made sense to let him learn OF a bit first. but if that’s not even happening 8/9th of the time, yuck.
Sure hope so as I have him in reserve on majority of my teams.
had hope when NEWMAN was ruled injured, but he’s back already now.
Would you stream Eric Lauer vs Pit today or Merrill Kelly @ Wash tomorrow or both?
Both
Marsh (angels) Estrada (giants) Mateo (orioles) over kiki ? who I picked up today for the week hittertron.
Upside
Mateo
16 team H2H Categories
Need a first baseman.
Here is the team (auction, first year keeper – can keep up to 11 for 3 years)
C – Narvaez $1
1B – Rowdy $1, Hiura $1
2B – Albies $40
3B – Bobby Witt Jr. $29
SS – Boba Chette $42
OF – Lou Bob $45
OF – Seiya $6
OF – Jesus Sanchez $1
UT – Franmil $9
Bench
G Lux $1
Candelario $1
Abrams $2
Winker $5
Kwan $10
Kiriloff $1 (IR)
SP – Freddy Peralty $33, Cease $18, Bassit $14, Houck $5, Greene $3, Luzardo $2, DeSclafani $2, Joe Ryan $1, Ashby $1, Kaprielian $1 (IR), Spencer Howard $10 (IR)
RP (SV + HD) – Loaisiga $1, Munoz $1, Feyereisen $1, Graterol $1, Lamet $10
Would like to trade Winker or Franmil for a 1B. I offered Winker for Hoskins and was turned down. Who would you rather trade and what should I be looking for?
Thanks in advance!
Also, does David Ross know how to fill out a lineup card? How is Seiya not batting 2nd or 3rd for the cubs?
Makes no sense
I’d take Hoskins for Winker
Kwan over Happ,Bellinger or Kelenic?
Any thoughts on Trevor Rogers going forward? Looks so hittable.
Thanks!
Hold
Rogers looks like a mess, I’d bench him for a start to see how he looks
Aloha Grey!
Sonny Grey or Kneble ROS?
mahalo!
Gray
Man, third base is an absolute wasteland. My 3B (Moncada) is out for weeks so I had to plug in Moosetacos as a stopgap but he stinks so far. I’d add Mateo but he doesn’t qualify at 3B with only 9 games there last season. Who would you add from this list of available 3B eligibles: Dozier, Candelario, Urshela, Wendle, Burger, Anderson (told you it was a wasteland). Thanks.
Gio’s been decent
Gre(y)at post!
I have Trea Turner as one of my keepers but am playing him at 2B so I punted a bit on SS this year thinking it was deep enough to grab a guy late. I ended up with Adames and Swanson. They have both been kind of meh so far. Mateo, Pena, and McNeil out there on waivers. Should I drop either of those guys for any listed?
Problem 2: I skipped top SP like a good soldier and went with Ray, Peralta, T. Rogers (I actually have all 3 T. Rogers’ haha), Bassitt, and have already dropped Ober for H. Greene. I streamed Cortes yesterday and dropped him right after the start and picked up M. Kelly. I’m going to try to re-add Cortes but I really doubt he clears waivers. I missed Luzardo, Megill and Wright due to my league’s 5 transaction per week limit. After Kelly’s start, should I hold where I am or look at adding one of Cortez, Skubal, Cobb, Gibson, or Blackburn?
(T)hanks!
1. Hold
2. Cobb or Cortes
Picking 5th in a re-entry draft. Need saves for ROS. Rank order of preference please….D. Bard, D. Robertson, T. Rainey, J. Duran, J. Staumont, J. Lopez, J. Diekman, H. Robles.
Thanks!!!
Rainey, Robertson, Bard
Also, gonna drop Gleyber at 2B
Add Mateo or McNeil?
Hold, but if you must Mateo
Happy Easter man, thanks for your work!
12 man 5×5. Trade Kopech or Luzardo for Edwin Diaz or ride it out for now?
I only own Taylor Rogers, Kittredge and Diekman
Besides Loisiga all “possible” save specs are owned
Happy Easter! Kopech for Diaz works for me
Good day fine sir. Trying to decide who to drop in my 12 team H2H keeper league(keep 10). I started the year stacked. Now my stack is starting to tip over rather quickly. Acuna, Means, Trout, Kiriloff. I dont like to carry a lot of bench bats. 1 or 2 max. Right now I am alternating in VOIT, J.RODRIGUEZ, J.PENA, M.STRAW. Would like to drop one of these to grab a streamer. Or I could drop one of my RPs. Namely J.DURAN or RAINEY.
Who is the drop here? I am leaning Voit. Partly because of his production, and partly because he just seems like a dick. Am I wrong?
I should also mention that I am alternating those bats into 2 UTIL slots.
Fine day to you too sir
Voit
We need a new Darth Grey vid!
Oh, man, I forgot about those! Haha, yes, what happened to those!
Small nitpick but possible to have the newest comments as default? Or the choice to do so…
Be easier to skip Ante’s comments that way too hahaha I kid I kid.
Yeah, let me look at that
Welp, only took me about 30 mins, but it’s newest comments on top
Thanks… look at you figuring things out!
Ha, I had to ask Steve, our RazzSlam writer
Are we grabbing Dylan Bundy in 10 team mixed? Who do you like more, Bundy or Heaney?
Heaney
You know bundy is serial killer right. Never.
Hi Grey! How’s my pitching staff? Anyone I can drop for streaming?
Eovaldi
Manaea
Marquez
Ober
Kyle Wright
Nestor Cortes
German is droppable
Was Yelich only good for 2 seasons due to PED’s, in-game video or both?
What are we supposed to do with this guy? He seems awful and mostly hits everything straight into the ground.
The temptation is strong to drop him for Connor Joe or Jesus Sanchez before the waiver wire dries up (10 team league, 6×6 ops)
Yeah, he’s brutal…I wouldn’t drop him, but can understand it
He’s a head case. Just drop him. I had a drop problem in his. It’s not about skills but something gets in your head. I came out of it but it’s definitely real.
I all of a sudden couldn’t catch the ball. This was football. I don’t know what was going on. It’s something that happens though. I’ve been through it. I don’t know what was going on myself.
back injuries are no joke. neither are shoulders. ask bellinger about the latter. or k.bryant (but bryant’s bad period from waiting too long to get his shoulder fixed wasn’t close to as bad as bellinger’s)
Variation on my earlier question
A. Pena over Schoop and Wong?
B. Pena over Adames? Is it close?
thank you!
A. These all depend on needs
B. Adames
Is it too early to give up on Urquidy? Options to take his place are Blackburn or Ashby.
Not too early…Ashby
I guess duran isn’t the closer but may work his way into it. He gave up a hr to c Vazquez of all people. He’ll need to stop giving up hr before being annointed the closer. Small sample but could be an issue unless he just K’s everyone
Agreed
Need to pick up Belt. Who to drop? (Jo Adell, Julio Rodrigues, or Andrew Vaughn)?
Adell
Why would you have to pick up belt? Don’t have to do anything.
Remember Hall and Oates song Baby Come Back? Was at Fenway yesterday and found myself singing Bobby Dalbec’s name to it everytime he was up, it is very catchy!
Thanks for a great post and Happy Passover, which I said to Chaim Bloom who I saw yesterday in passing, his reply: Chag Sameach!
Haha, amazing…Happy Passover!
Player sang Baby Come Back, not H&O. Just some additional useless information I possess.
Haha
Hi Grey,
Always appreciate your advice!
1. I have Corey Seager of Texas as my main ss and Amed Rosario of Cleveland as backup. Does this seem like two solid players? thoughts?
2. At 3B, I have Kris Bryant as my main 3B and Yoan Moncada as backup although he is on IL. I was not planning on making any move. Do you agree?
3. The following three players are available on waivers: Thairo Estrada of SF, Santiago Espinal of Toronto and Hunter Dozier of KC. Would you draft any of them or just stand pat? I also have Oscar Mercado who I could waive besides Rosario and Moncada?
Thanks again!!
Martin
1. Sounds fine 2. Agree 3. Hold
Thank you!
No problem
My only option at 3rd is Donaldson… suck it up or dump and chase guys like:
Franco
Wade
Espinal
Flores
Culberson
Burger
Dozier
Arraez
Farmer
Ibáñez
Wander Franco over Donaldson
Unfortunately it’s the Maikel version…
Oh poo, then hold
Ever the optimistic sob. Lmfao.
Im curious what you think about a move i did and my take on steven kwan. I dropped Steven Kwan for Eduardo Rodriguez who I felt doesn’t belong on the Waivers, I feel like he’s having a bit of a rough start but hes pretty much an ace and Im not very convinced steven kwan is much more than a hot streak, his .600 average dropped down to the .300s (as expected) and i wouldn’t be surprised if he turns out to be barely if at all worth rostering. seems like his power is essentially minimal to nonexistent and his speed is semi decent (which my team has no need for)
Kwan is a 15/7/.300 hitter, it’s fine, he was just hot
Neither are that great so whatever.
Had high hopes for Adell this season but right now he looks like the 2nd coming of Lewis Brinson. Quad A type, can’t hit MLB pitching. He’s rocking a 53% contact rate and 45% strikeout rate so far this season. Both of which look a lot like his awful first season in 2020 (56% contact rate and 42% k rate over 124 ab).
Haha, yeah
Sometimes you are what you are. It’s just the way it is.
Grey,
One last question.
1) Would you keep Lorenzen?
2) Would you drop P. Johnson for one of these relievers:
Shreve
Mayza
Clay Holmes
Thanks again.
1. Sure
2. No
Grey, don’t we all envy Justin Verlander?
Pitching was supposed to be my strongest area: Woodruff, Ray, Peralta, Urias, Rogers, Flaherty… killing me, all of them. Gilbert is the only good one so far. Clase is even struggling to find a save.
So my question is… would you tell me this is going to be alright? I’ve ignored the pitching waiver wire all spring since my rotation was so stout (18-team league btw), and there is nothing to give assistance at this time. I did grab Keller for a little moral support, but I digress.
Grin and bear it, right?
Naturally!
I don’t know if Flaherty, Urias and Rogers will be okay…They could be
Come on. Short schedule day and now 2 postponements too? That’s just bad planning.
Damn
This is what happens when Mother Nature is not invited to participate in collective bargaining
that, or just that nobody figured out having retractable roofs (some did, MIL did) was probably the easiest good investment (esp when they have the people OF the city paying like 70%+ of these things not the billionaires) to do in the first place.
Please rank ROS
Gore
Brash
Cortes
Elieser
Thanks!
Gore, Brash
I so hope you are right on Gore and he stays in the majors. I waited for him for 2 years and grabbed him in a high dollar keeper league.
Yeah, hope I’m right too
RazzSlam Question
Is there a document or reference to see what winning bids for FA have been in the past? 1st deadline tomorrow.
Thanks!
Like last year bids? Kinda irrelevant now, no?
I’ll say the first waiver wire period is by far most important, people spend 750 of 1000
Thanks, Grey. I was thinking more along the lines of how much (generally) the top few available FAs go for ($50, $100, $500, etc).
There’s this post from today https://razzball.com/razzslam-faab-run-1-april-19-2022/
Depends on the player tho…brash will likely go for 120, but Duran might go for $3
Hi Grey,
Hope you had a very Easter!!
Your advice was amazing on Sunday. Thanks to you I picked up Heaney, Crowe and David Bednar. I got an amazing almost 50 points. Still can’t believe it. Well done! You have been amazing about when to pick up players and when to
pass.
1. I may have a chance to pick up David Peterson of the Mets and Cole Irvin of Oakland. Would you pick up either or both of them or just pass? To get them, I would have to cut one or two of the following; Chris Flexan, Justin Green, Lopez of Miami, Mike Clevinger, or Merrill Kelly of Arizona, or Miles Mikolas (I followed your advice on picking up Mike). If Peterson or Irvin are valuable and you advise against cutting any of my pitchers, I could cut hitter. Based on your advice, I am staying put on Crowe and Bednar.
Thanks!
You too! Nice!
Justin Green doesn’t exist, Justin Steele or Hunter Greene or both
Sorry for the confusion.
I have Justin Steele, Chris Flexan. Pablo Lopez, Mike Clevinger (IL) and Kelly of AZ as potential players to be waived.
Is this group better than the Mets David Peterson or Cole Irvin of Oakland. I could stand pat or go for one or both and cut one or two of my current staff. I also have Oscar Mercado to waive and take either Paterson or Irvin. Recommendations?
Thanks for your patience!
I’d try Peterson over Steele
Thanks. Your advice is always appreciated!
No problem
Got offered Verdugo, France and hunter Greene for my wander Franco and Aaron Nola.
Franco side right?
Wander side
Please rank….Carrasco, B.Keller, A.Wood, Cortes, M.Kelly
Wood, Cortes
My Liege,
Two things.
One, Jordan Hicks was throwing 102 yesterday, and nobody has yet hit the ball solidly off him (small sample size, but nice). I know he doesn’t have any real set role, but he doesn’t leave my roster under any circumstances, right?
Two, the Rice Bowl. Arozarena looks lost or indifferent at the plate sometimes, and his batting average last year was about 50 points higher than his xBA. He’s got that shiny 45 ranking on Yahoo, and I’m looking to unload him as quickly as possible, because I could see his end of May line looking like 2 hr, 2 sb, and a .190 avg. How low do I sell? I need a CI, so I’ve offered him straight up for Rizzo (Yahoo rank 128), and I don’t know that it will take. With Trout (CF), Tucker (RF), Alvarez (LF), Suzuki (OF) and Nimmo (UT) already on my roster, I’ve simply got no room for him in my lineup.
Yeah, can roster Hicks, but he needs to throw more than 5 IP if he’s starting
I’d take Abreu or Rizzo, I’m not a big Randy fan — fandy?
10 team dynasty. which of the following would you drop for Heaney?
N. Lodolo
H. Greene
J. Gray
R. Detmers
N. Syndergaard
JoMo is also available.
Lodolo
Ouch I dropped Heaney in a 16tm league before his 1st start SO this mf’er is REALLY going to kill me even when I dont own him?. Same team yesterday i benched Eleiser and started Wheeler, woke up down 9 places …[pulls out eyelashes and eyebrows] … At least I’m still in 1st in my RCL i guess…
?Luis Urias stash or trash over J.Candelario?
?Dylan Floro stash or trash?
A.Rosario or W.Adames?
( Dont REALLY need sb but it cant hurt as this question pertains to a h2h league).
Cheers.
Damn! Haha
Urias stash
Floro is trash
Adames
Power rankings made up of 30 writers and updated weekly has the giants as the fourth best team. That feels high but they could be right. It’s early and again, I don’t know what’s going on other than what eno Sarris points to- The giants are better prepared going into every ballgame than any other team.
Yeah, could be…I know a lot of them are not great for fantasy
Hitters at least, their arms are great
Got Manaea/Bassitt/McClanahan/Syndergaard/Stroman as my rotation. Do you drop Stroman for any of these guys on waivers, or start streaming the spot?
Nestor, K.Wright, Heaney, Luzardo, Carrasco, Taillon, Bundy
Wright
why does it take so long for managers to do such obvious things like not having Seiya batting 6th and ur catcher batting 3rd… or Duran Duran not being the closer as you said!
Well thanks to razzballs and drafting no early pitching I have quickly stockpiled slightly too many as I dropped mr Zunino for Heaney as soon as I saw the 11k thing. I have a rule early season of if I see pitchers throw 10+ strikeout games to just autograb. Mr Zunino is unimportant so I dropped him faster then a fat kid on a smarty! I am now in debateworld in my brain if I even want a catcher cuz my offense is stacked even without Acuna back. is the OBP cost worth it? Sometimes yes sometimes no maybe yes maybe no why am I talking to myself in rhyme?
So I guess there is a question in here somewhere. I had to go off on a tangent for some reason even though you have a couple hundred questions to read today here I am selfishly wasting ur time with my blathering. What a blatherbot I am!
Oh ya question I has pitchers Cease, Eovaldi, Luzardo, Severino, Kopech, Syndergaard, Brash, Ed Rod, Heaney, Ranger Suarez, and Bauer…
do I drop any for a catcher?
Side note
I also run Duran and Sewald as my RP (league is 5v5 with quality starts and net svs hlds) and am not afraid to run just 1 RP… man there are tons of RP always avail in a weekly net sv/hld league!
I’m also running only 1 bench bat of Jul rod right now I think it is too early to call him a fail and cut right? (using mr connor joe in the meantime)
thank you for reading my essay have a good day I miss you… I miss you too
~Shiz
Managers are idiots
I don’t think Bauer’s playing any time soon, can lose him for a catcher
No problem
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading I denied.
Mama tried!
I love him, I have him on like 80% rosters and wish it was more
See, I told you!
The Bullpen Chart linked in Pressly’s blurb is really useful – it really needs to have its own menu link in one of the top-of-the-page drop-down menus for fast access. The link at News->Other Posts->Bullpen links to a blog roll of bullpen posts and you can get to the Bullpen Chart indirectly there, but the Bullpen Chart is so useful on a daily basis that there really should be a link directly to the Bullpen Chart.
Good idea! Will add it
Would you drop Swanson for profar or Eduardo Escobar? Or give Swanson another week
Hold
Hi Grey
10 tm h2h weekly pts
I saw that Clevinger had a nice rehab game and that he should be returning sometime around the end of April.
What do you think happens to Gore?
Drop Gore for Clevinger?
As always THANKS!!
Gore is replacing Snell…Martinez might get bumped…I’d want Clevinger tho
I’m winning the pitching categories in my 5×5 12-team roto league but am dead last in the offensive categories.
Unlike JB, I did not go all-pitching in my draft. My lineup includes Bichette, Teoscar, India, O’Neill, Abreu, Framber, Jesus Sanchez, Bellinger, Garver and Kelenic. I also have Acuna and Moncada in waiting and grabbed Owen Miller from waivers to ride while he schmotatoes.
I’d appreciate it if someone could advise me not to panic because it’s a long season and I won’t always be bottom-three in all four counting stats.
It’s a long season and you won’t always be bottom three in hitting
Hooray! Thanks, Grey.
No problem
Would Conforto please sign!
I need a RF and my team needs help soon.
Trevor Larnach any good? All I see is a strikeout machine….
My options for Right Field are
Larnach
Daza
Pavin Smith
Lane Thomas
Tsutsugo
Clint Frazier
Please Rank top 3 for a H2H w/OBP as a category..please
Thomas, Larnach
Own Walsh in keeper pts league, would you try Taylor Ward for $1 or Daz? Would drop Ortega.
Ward
Hey Grey!
Kittrage or J. McGee
Thanks in advnace!
McGee
a. In one league, I catch Varsho (6 moves/week league). Replace him with Joey Bart?
b. Is Eric Hosmer’s early season success real? Or is there risk that SD will start replacing his PT with Luke Voit (and use a different DH)? Would be a bench bat with minimal talent in FA.
Obviously shorft-term until someone else comes available.
Note; Roto league, and in 1st place but far in last in BA.
A. Nah
B. I don’t know yet, worth a speculative add if you have room, can try him over Voit
Maybe didn’t understand. I mentioned Voit only as potential risk for Hosmer. Choice is Varsho or Hosmer?
Hosmer over Varsho
Cortes, Carrasco or Lodolo in a redraft?
Lodolo still, but thin ice
Added Kyle Wright with Pressly on dl. Other P are Webb, Gausman, Manaea, Cease, Montas, Morton, Rogers (SD). No bench pts league, era is a big portion of scoring. Who should be the odd man out whenever Pressly returns? Thanks FML
Wright, but can’t you ask when he returns?
Kirk or Murphy at C in an obp league?
Murphy
Grey,
Whom should i pick up this week from this Free Agent list –
Mercado, Brandon Marsh, and Margot?
As far as RPs go –
Rainey and Staumont are available.
I am just looking to see who will have the most value here..
thanks!
Mercado
Rainey
Which one of these guys would you cut first in a 12 team: Santander or Grichuk?
And what is the story with Taylor Ward? I added him in a 16 team format just because maddon seems to like him and said he was his RF. He batted 4th and 3rd over the weekend. Thanks
Santander
I know on Ward, he’s got some power, and only guy Maddon seems to like
I got your back…
Taylor Ward was originally drafted by the Rays in 2012 back when Maddon was managing there, so he’s familiar with him/his skillset. He went on to college instead and then was drafted in the first round by the Angels in 2015, Maddon likes his versatility (he’s the emergency catcher, 1B/3B too) so big Zobrist vibes, and his plate approach/profile does feel very similar as well with a bit less speed.
Zobrist? Woooooooooooooooof!
Thanks for the info Cool Whip.
His minor league stats have my attention. 317/31/14 steals over last 122 games.
Good day,
Short on saves – Start Tony Gonsolin home vs. Atlanta this week or Jake McGee? Thanks.
McGee
Hi Grey,
Correa was just dropped to waiver wire. I really don’t care for him much but would you drop Jeremy Pena for him? Pena is fun to watch as his story develops, but can’t believe some dropped Correa. Thanks
Yes, Correa over Pena
Eddie Rosario is killing me! 1/29 with 2 runs. Yuk!
Yeah, I hear ya
Notorious slow starter for sure
