Let’s see, all rise for the Judge.  Can I get a witness for Judge?  Judge, jury and executioner of fastballs.  This is one Judge who should never see the bench.  There’s a ten from the East German for Judge!  Well, you can be the Judge of that, not really tho.  You can Judge a book by how hard he knocks the cover off the ball.  And, of course, five minutes to Judge Mollywhopper.  All right, all right, enough.  Yesterday, Aaron Judge went 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs with his 47th and 48th homer, as he hits .281.  I don’t want to have to bring out the caps, but he’s a ROOKIE.  *inserts meme of white guy blinking*  He has the rookie record for walks, within one of the rookie record for home runs and the first player with 200 Ks and a .262+ average in baseball history.  I looked through the last 120 years of baseball for a comparable year, and I found Mike Schmidt’s best year and a not-yet-white Sammy Sosa.  So, a Phillie hero and vitiligo.  In the 2nd half, Judge ‘only’ has 18 homers, and increased his K-rate to 32.9% from 29.8, only hitting .213.  In 2018, there’s going to be huge risk and reward when drafting Judge.  I’d be shocked if he falls further than the top 15 overall, so you’re gonna have to gamble that he won’t hit 40 HRs with a .240, and be essentially Khris Davis.  Either way, it’s gonna be tough to Judge.  Ugh.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Sonny Gray – 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.31.  The Yanks are likely going to lean heavily on Gray in the playoffs like an 80-year-old Big Daddy’s Cane, so Gray’s next matchup isn’t terrible, but he may only go 4-5 IP.

Teoscar Hernandez – 1-for-4, 2 runs, and his 5th homer, and 3rd homer in as many games.  Hey, Hunter Renfroe, go eat a D, Teoscar is my new main squeeze!  I don’t know how long Teoscar going to keep this streak going, but he only needs to stay hot for another week.  Grab him everywhere!

Miguel Cabrera – Likely done for the year as he was diagnosed with two herniated discs.   Surprised by the discs, I figured Miggy was so old he was still on analog.

Eduardo Escobar – 2-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 20th homer.  Twins offense in the 2nd half has been no joke.  They’re currently ranked 2nd in the major leagues for runs after the break, and are only two runs behind the Cubs in first.  Continued in next blurb.

Jorge Polanco – 2-for-4, 2 runs and 12th homer.  The best hitter is usually the three hole hitter, on the Twins yesterday, that was Polanco.  I don’t think it’s a Star Mitzvah, but he’s definitely been productive.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – Left after 2 1/3 IP when he was hit in the forearm by a Joe Panik comebacker.  I guess Joe figured his last name was enough of a distress signal, but Ryu didn’t heed it.  Ryu sounds fine, but he’s also likely done until the postseason.

Clayton Kershaw – 8 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.21.  Ha, and this was an off year.  Big weekend for the Dodgers:  Kershaw looked like his dominant self, Dodgers clinched the division and Lasorda turned 90, or pithier, Hasta L.A. Pasta NL West.

Madison Bumgarner – 7 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.32.  I still maintain he should’ve been shut down six weeks ago to rest for next season, but I am just a poor boy, nobody loves me, Scaramooch, Scaramooch, get movie tix off Fandango.

Jhoulys Chacin – 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners (1 hit), 6 Ks, ERA at 3.98, home ERA at 1.79 in 100 1/3 IP!  That’s not a Hodgepadre, THIS IS A HODGEPADRE!

Wil Myers – 2-for-4 and his 29th homer, hitting .245.  I was corrected (chastised?) the other day for leaving Myers off the list of 20/20 NL players with Pham.  That was my b.  Though, even Padres fans forget about the Padres.  Since then, Keon Broxton has joined that exclusive group.  A who’s who like that book your parents paid $75 for you to get mentioned in during high school.

Christian Villanueva – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer, and 3rd home in the last week.  Christian Newtown appears to be a hot schmotato, God bless you if you pick him up, especially if you sneeze while grabbing him.

Charlie Blackmon – 2-for-4, 3 runs and his 36th homer, hitting .326.  In one of the lesser known storylines of the year and in a year with insane offense, Chazz Noir is about to win the honors for the number one player on the Player Rater.  The award comes with $25 gift certificate to Red Robin and a phone call from me.  You lucky son of a bitch!

Taijuan Walker – 3 2/3 IP, 3 ER (4 unearned runs), ERA at 3.54.  Holy box scare, Batman!  Is it me (it’s not me), or did the entire Diamondbacks’ rotation disintegrate in the last five days?

Patrick Corbin – 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.09 as he was outpitched by the usually a homeschooler, Dan Straily – 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 4.08.  This was a matchup billed as “Dan/Patrick is en fuego.”

Jose Martinez – Diagnosed with a sprained thumb.  That likely ends his season.  Too bad, he was one of the few random Cardinals karma chose to highlight this year.  Next year, it will be three other random Cards, as DeJong, and Pham struggle out of the gate and end up on the bench by May.

Lance Lynn – 2/3 IP, 8 ER, ERA up to 3.47.  Who sells their soul for a pristine ERA for the entire season except the final week?  Was there some kind of fine print that said you can have a great ERA the whole summer, and then when it turned to autumn, he got lit?  Why didn’t the Regression Fairies wait to put their well-manicured hands on him next year?  In the name of Giancarlo, WHY?!

Gerrit Cole – 5 2/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 4.23.  Way to pitch to the score!  I’d contend Cole feels like he pitches much worse than his ERA ends up.  Not exactly how to pitch like an ace, as defined in Ray Searage’s book, “I Fixed Juan Nicasio For 27 IP In March/April Of 2016, And Fixed Ivan Nova For 73 IP In 2017.”

Jameson Taillon – 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 4.62.  I’ll likely be back in on Taillon next year, but don’t trust him at all for his last start.  May the Schwartz be with his space and ball.

Starling Marte – 2-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 7th homer.  This schmohawk seems to be going out of his way to have the most grating season ever.  First, the suspension, then the bleh play, now, he says he’s done for the year the day before he has one of his best weeks of the season.  That’s Marte’s forte, or simply Farte.

Jose Quintana – 9 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 3.50 on Cubs, and 4.06 overall.  Solid way to end a less-than-solid season.  He’s scheduled for one more start, but I’d be shocked if it’s anything more than a three inning-turn-over-to-the-bullpen affair.  Which is the least sexy affair ever.

Julio Teheran – 7 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.39.  Teheran went from Bombs over Baghdad in the 1st half of the season to a free, capitalist society that occasionally gets rocked by global shifts in the economy in the 2nd half, i.e., Teheran’s 2nd half ERA was 3.87.  Stream-o-Nator doesn’t love his last start of the year, but I could see it being decent.

Matt Boyd – 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 5.12.  Look at Matt Boyd going from Flava Flav’s favorite starter to the world’s best streamer in two weeks.  His last start of the season will be a game-time decision depending on the Royals’ lineup and their wont/need to win.

Dylan Bundy – Scratched yesterday with a strained hamstring.  Yeah, sure.  This is like when you get a stomach flu the day of an exam you didn’t study for.  The school nurse is rolling her eyes at Bundy.

Chris Archer – 3 2/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 4.22.  I blame the Tim Beckham trade.

Kevin Kiermaier – 1-for-5 and his 15th homer.  So hard to recommend someone who goes 1-for-5, even if it’s with a home run, and that home run was in the 1st inning, but, ya know, last week of the season so we’re clutching at straws like someone drinking Capri Sun.

Jharel Cotton – 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 5.58.  Was bummed when he was scratched in his last start vs. Buck Farmer because of the Cotton/Farmer puns — How often do I get a chance to work in someone farming Fruit of the Looms?! — but Jharel came up big yesterday.  His last start is an avoid, however, and you can drop him.

Khris Davis – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 41st homer, and 2nd in as many games.  2nd straight year for 40+ homers for Davis, and I bet next year he will once again be underrated.  I get the drag on average, but, on our Player Rater, he’s still a top 40 player overall.

Noah Syndergaard – 1 IP, 0 ER.  Sweet!  Mets fans have to be happy with that confidence builder going into the offseason.  I mean, one whole inning since April?  What could go wrong in 2018 now?

Max Scherzer – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 2.55 vs. Jacob deGrom – 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 3.53.  Just the way their H2H owners drew it up.  Unless they dropped Scherzer when he was hurt earlier this month and deGrom when he was ineffective, then that’s why their ex-owners are sitting in their car sobbing.

Bryce Harper – Will return today to make baseball great again (in his own mind).  “In his own mind” is the fortune cookie ending for millennials.

Jose Reyes – 2-for-4, 1 RBI and his 23rd and 24th steal.  Been putting the hot schmotato label on this guy for the past two weeks.  That’s a lot of hot takes.

Lucas Giolito – 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.38.  I’m going to go out on a 100-year-old oak and say someone not named Albright will be drafting Giolito before me next year.  Unless Madeline Albright drafts him in her league.

Avisail Garcia – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 18th homer, hitting .331.   Appears that Avisail is going to finish 2nd in the AL batting race, which is about 78 spots higher than I would’ve guessed.

Eduardo Rodriguez – 7 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.91.  Damn, Ed-Rod makes me want to jump on the couch and tell Oprah how much I love some girl my manager arranged for me to marry.  The Stream-o-Nator does hate his last start of the year, and I wouldn’t touch him.

Rafael Devers – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 10th homer, and 2nd homer in the past three games.  Aw sookie sookie, someone’s coming out of their couple-week-old slump.  If someone dropped him, he’s worth getting back in on for the our final week.

Billy Hamilton – 1-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI and his 59th steal.  His last four year stolen base totals:  56, 57, 58, 59, which means, in the year 2200, he’s going to steal 242 bases!

Justin Upton – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and a slam (35) and legs (12).  Everyone who suffered through past seasons of Upton, failing to live up to expectations, it was because you owned him.  Sorry, just being real with you.

Charlie Morton – 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.63.  It’s gonna be a lot of “What does the Stream-o-Nator say about so-and-so’s last start of the year,” because that’s where we’re at at (stutterer!) this point.  As I said in Friday’s Sell, if it’s a bad last start you need to move on with the quickness of Rza dropping a ninja reference.

Lance McCullers – 3 1/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 4.01.  This guy is so injury prone, I’m gonna start calling him, Paxton South.

George Springer – 1-for-4, 2 runs and his 33rd homer, hitting .284.  I own him, so I’m being honest when I say I can’t believe he’s hitting for that high of an average still.  I feel like he’s had two hits this 2nd half.  One in July, and one yesterday.

Jean Segura – Dealing with sprained middle finger.  An injury that often plagues truck drivers.

Jose Ramirez – 2-for-4, 2 runs and a slam (29) and legs (16), hitting .317.  There’s a case to be made that he’s a top 15 pick next year.  Zoinks!

Corey Kluber – 7 IP, 0 ER, 8 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 2.27.  Marla Gibbs would be so proud of that ERA.  If I win my RCL league, Kluber had a big part in that, so I will send him a picture of me holding up my virtual trophy.

Carlos Santana – Had precautionary x-rays done on his shoulder.  Imagine someone you knew had precautionary x-rays.  You’d think they were a hypochondriac.  How about a precautionary test for scurvy?  After all, you do refuse a lime wedge with your margaritas.

Well this week is it, h2h and I’m set up nicely for the final. I’ll have an actual question later but I’m seriously pondering Teoscar and Devers, but I only have two moves left….thanks for all the help sir.

Grey thank you for another great fantasy baseball season, your daily write ups, draft advice, and wisdom.

Unfortunately my season ended today. 10 Team Yahoo H2H, I was the number 1 seed with a bye last week. During the regular season I only lost 2 weeks total, week 3 and week 4 due to rainouts and injuries.

I drafted very well, made some great trades and pickups throughout the season. My team decided to take a dump on me this week. Luckily I won the regular season championship which pays the larger payout, for that I’m happy! But I really wanted the ship…

I want to share my team so you can bask in my sorrows.

    C Sanchez
    1B Goldy
    2B Rizzo
    3B Rendon
    SS Correa

    OF Stanton
    OF Merrifield

Amazing season, just fell short!, but still brought home the larger paycheck. Thanks again, see you next season!!!!

Ah, Grey, one last crunch time question:
Leading by a meager two points in a 15 team mixed league 5×5 (119-117)
Key categories for the last week: BA — need to stay at .270 or gain
SB, ERA (need to creep up from a 3.92 to the mid 3.8s), Wins, Ks

Here’s my line up with questions

    C Salvi Perez
    1b/CI Matt Olson/Joe Mauer
    2b Dee Gordon
3b/ss: had Candelario at 3b last week — drop him and put Eduardo Escobar(at SS last week) (or Justin Turner) at third and Jorge Polanco at SS or wait out the knee?
    Lf Tommy Pham
    Cf Ellsbury
RF Drop Eddie Rosario for Drop Rosario (or Ellsbury) for Altherr, Austin Jackson, or Jay (chasing AVG and laterally steals and runs–we break down OF by position)?
    U Jed Lowrie

P (8 of any mix of SP and RP)
Greinke, Carlos Martinez, Gio, Rich Hill, Kenley, David Robertson, Anthony Swarzak and Ryan Madson — trying to put myself in a position to improve ERA as much possible, do decently well in Ks and luck into some wins (haha–like one can ever try to do that) while not damaging my ratios. Are any of these guys obvious sits? (Corey Knebel is likely on the bench for this week given his recent struggles, but should Greinke be too — or can we trust him to bounce back against the Giants?)

    • Not the real Hubie Brooks says:

Darren O’Day, Carl Edwards, Bryan Shaw and Mike Montgomery are the sorts of names on the pitching wire, fwiw. Also, Christian Villanueva worth a flyer over the names above?

    Grey!!!!

Fabulous write-up! Enjoyed to (Kibbles and) bits!

    a. From last night, one word…Polanco!

    b. As an owner of Springer, I share your sentiments! Guy had 76 runs scored before the injury, so a very pedestrian 27 runs since (he now has 103 runs scored). Maybe he’ll still be a bargain next year because of his poor second-half performance, so a silver lining maybe?

    c. I hope Stumanji hasn’t already made plans to give his Razzball t-shirt to some chick for the Zimmerman prediction just yet! Zimmerman would have hit the DL on September 23 if we didn’t have expanded rosters and if the season wasn’t about to end in any event. So technically, it should be Mrs Featherbottom to win the razzball t-shirt who said that he would hit the DL like somewhere in August, that’s the closest according to my recollection. We need the Grand Visor to make a decision on this situation ASAP. If he doesn’t play today, that’s 3 consecutive days. The injury? Typical Zimmerman…..general soreness! I got general soreness from sitting on my a$$ for too long, it doesn’t get me out of mowing the lawn, trimming the hedges or taking out the trash! Get back in the lineup, one-N Zimm!!

    d. Best of Rambo quote of the day for September 25 from Rambo IV (2008) from the week of August 21

Michael Burnett: ‘As bad as these people are, they will eventually lose. They can´t keep it up against a united front. They can´t. l mean, time alone will tell, but in the meantime, We just have to help hold it together. l mean, just the other day, l read… Excuse me. Sarah, Where are you going?’

Sarah Miller: ‘To talk to him.’

Michael Burnett: ‘Well, he probably wants his privacy.’

Sarah Miller: ‘Michael, you shouldn’t ignore him. -He´s helping us.’

    Michael Burnett: ‘-He´s been paid.’

Sarah Miller: ‘He didn’t take anything.’

Sarah Miller (to Rambo): ‘Thank you, again, for doing this. Really. From all of us.’

    [Rambo nods in acknowledgement]

Sarah Miller: ‘lt’s like the same view goes on forever. lt’s so empty out here.’

Rambo: ‘lt just looks that way.’

Sarah Miller: ‘You know, you never told us your name.’

    Rambo: ‘-John.’

Sarah Miller: ‘-John. -Lived here a long time?’

    Rambo: ‘-Long time.’

    Sarah Miller: ‘-Where you from?’

    Rambo: ‘-Bowie, Arizona. Small place.’

Sarah Miller: ‘What´d you do there?’

    Rambo: ‘Worked horses, mainly.’

    Sarah Miller: ‘-Why´d you leave?’

Rambo: ‘-l got drafted in Nam.’

    Sarah Miller: ‘-Long time ago.’

Rambo: ‘-Long time ago. Lot of years.’

Sarah Miller: ‘And you just stayed?’

    Rambo: ‘lt’s complicated.’

[Yeah, like his relationship status on FB.]

Sarah Miller: ‘-You have family back home?’

Rambo: ‘-Father maybe. l don´t know.’

Sarah Miller: ‘Aren’t you curious to see how things might’ve changed back home?’

Rambo: ‘Got to have a reason for that. -What do you do stateside?’

Sarah Miller: ‘-l teach. Sixth grade.’

[Rambo looks at Sarah Miller, sizing her up with a wry smile.]

    Sarah Miller: ‘What?’

Rambo: ‘Now l know why you ask so many questions.’

[Michael Burnett, not happy how his fiancee is getting chatted up by Rambo, makes a move towards Rambo.]

Michael Burnett: ‘-Any idea how much longer?’

Rambo: ‘-Yeah, just a few more hours.’

Michael Burnett: ‘Maybe we should give the man his space. We should go over the schedule, okay?’

    Sarah Miller: ‘Okay.’

Sarah Miller (to Rambo): ‘We´re engaged. He´s a good man.’

    Rambo: ‘That´s good.’

Sarah Miller: ‘l know you think you live alone out here, but there´s always something pushing you.’

[Just after dusk, there’s some noise and some people singing or chanting.]

Michael Burnett: ‘-What is it? Who are they?’

    Rambo: ‘-Burmese pirates.’

Rambo: ‘Tell everyone to stay down, don´t make a sound.’

Random group member: ‘-Who are they?’

Michael Burnett: ‘-lt´s all right, it´s all right. -Just keep…’

    Rambo: ‘-Don´t talk!’

[after they pass the area populated by the pirates, Michael Burnett gets up to approach Rambo.]

Michael Burnett: ‘-Any more of them?’

Rambo: ‘-Maybe. What do you wanna do?’

Michael Burnett: ‘We should keep going. We made a commitment.’

Rambo: ‘-What do you wanna do?’

Michael Burnett: ‘-We´re a group here. lf they wanna vote…’

    Rambo: ‘-Sit down!

Michael Burnett: ‘-lf it´s money they want…’

[The approaching boat starts to shoot at Rambo’s boat.]

Rambo: ‘Nobody talks. Heads down. Keep your heads down and nobody look them in the eye, or they´ll kill you.’

The pirate ship approaches Rambo’s boat and ties it to their ship. A heated argument ensues on turf and then the pirate commander sees Sarah Miller and orders Rambo to bring her to him. Rambo refuses and says he will pay. The pirate says he knows he will pay and to bring her. So Rambo did what Rambo does….he killed all 5 pirates in a really swift action.]

Michael Burnett: ‘No! What did you do? We came here to help stop the killing! Who are you to…’

[Rambo pins Michael Burnett to a post on the ship, choking him with his right hand.]

    Rambo: ‘-Who are you?’

    Sarah Miller: ‘-Let him go!’

Rambo: ‘They would’ve raped her 50 times, and cut your heads off. We´re going back!’

Sarah Miller: ‘No. No, we shouldn’t go back.’

Michael Burnett: ‘-What are you doing?’

Sarah Miller: ‘-Don´t take us back.’

Michael Burnett: ‘-Look what just happened!’

Sarah Miller: ‘-We got through it.’

Michael Burnett: ‘-We´ll come back next year.’

Sarah Miller: ‘-We are so close. Michael, this was your idea. We made a commitment.’

Sarah Miller (to Rambo): ‘l know you don´t believe in what we´re doing, but it´s our life, our choice. Please. Please, John. Please.’

Rambo: ‘You´re not going to change anything.’

[Rambo relents again this time after Sarah Miller grabs him by the forearm.]

    Rambo: ‘Go sit down.’

    Michael Burnett: ‘lt´s all right.’

[After a few minutes, it’s sunrise and arrival at the meeting place.]

Michael Burnett: ‘We´ll be taking the overland route on the way back, l have to report this. l know you think what you did was right, but taking a life is never right.’

[Sarah Miller stays on the boat after everyone leaves, approaching Rambo.]

Sarah Miller: ‘l don´t know what to say.’

Rambo: ‘Then you shouldn’t say anything, should you?’

[Sarah Miller gives Rambo a crucifix tied to a string necklace, squeezing his hand.]

[The group walks on, away from the river. Sarah Miller looks back at Rambo several times as he starts up the motor to his boat. This is Hollywood, so you know somehow, some way, Rambo will have to save them, right?]

[The group reaches their village, Rambo reaches the pirate’s boat with all the dead pirates on board. Rambo douses the boat and all the bodies with petrol. Rambo gets back on his boat, throws his lighted zippo lighter to ignite the fire and throws away his hunting knife.]

[The group is met by the local villagers with joy.]

Michael Burnett: ‘Hey. What did you do? Good, good.’

Random church member: ‘Through his spirit in your inner being. So Christ may dwell in your hearts with faith. And l pray……you may have the power together…’

Michael Burnett (to a villager who’s been injured): ‘Let me see if l can fix this little problem, okay? Okay.’

Michael Burnett (to Sarah Miller): ‘Hey, you. Hand me one of those bandages?’

    Sarah Miller: ‘Okay.’

    Michael Burnett: ‘Thank you. Okay.’

        3. Mazara @ home versus HOU (McHugh)
        4. Chririnos @ home versus HOU (McHugh)

Gray and Razzball…Just wanted to give out a huge thanks for all the laughs and help this year as I finally took him home the Championship trophy in the keeper league I run. Came in 2nd two out of last three years and nearly happened again. Appreciate all you do here. See you in the Spring.

You said it about Cole…never drafting that guy again in H2H…it feels impossible to predict when he’ll throw a 0 ER gem vs when he’ll give up 4-5+ ER. There’s literally no in between (last 6 or so starts is something like 0, 5, 0, 4, 5, 5).

  9. Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
    (link)

Speaking of H2H, officially locked up that league’s championship! Thanks as always for all the advice!

Meanwhile, Harper is the Thomas Jefferson (Hamilton musicial version) of my team…after missing all of the playoffs, he returns the first day after the championship win…”hey y’all, what did I miss?”

      • Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
        (link)

@Grey: Worth the wait! The wifey and I saw it over the summer (got the tix literally 9 months in advance, like a baby) – great stuff even if you already know all the songs. Dear Evan Hansen’s the other one I’d really strongly recommend!

Thus ends the [only?] Broadway-Razzball (Razzway? Broadballs?!) chat . . .

            (link)

@Grey: Hamilton? No need . . . it’s an AWESOME soundtrack, and you should definitely listen to the original cast afterwards, but if you’d made it this far without spoilers, I’d wait for the real thing. You’ll probably like all the old school hip hop references subtly sneaked in.

This may seem straight-forward, but hoping you may have insight into which starters to sit, given each team’s situation in the last week of the season. I only need to consider wins (other cats are pretty much settled). Which one to sit?

    J. Gray (MIA)
    Kluber (CHW)

@Grey: Morton, huh? I guess that’s because he’s playing the Bosox in Boston? I was sure it would be Nova since he’s @WAS, but I guess you figure the Nats will be resting guys?

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

I’m guessing Nats will rest guys and Houston might too, and Morton may only pitch 5 IP… It’s a toss up

Gray! Some how some way, i advanced to my league’s finals yesterday. Came down to Blackmon’s last at bat and he went yard to put me up by 5 pts…i was shaking, tears were flowing.

That being said, your advise on Moncado last week was huge and I credit it for the win. Thank you sir!

I’m in a weekly points league, rosters lock at 1 PM today. My line up is below along with my bench. Would you make any changes? Please! help!

    C – Sal Perez
    1b – Hosmer
    2b – Schoop
    SS – Jose Reyes
    3B – N. Castellanos
    INF – Ian Kinsler
    OF – Nelson Cruz
    OF – Jay Bruce
    OF – Charlie Blackmon
    OF – Eddie Rosario

A few injury questions for you – there are a few offensive categories that I really need to hold steady on, including Avg and Slg%, so these injuries have me a bit nervous.

    1) Any concerns with starting Abreu and Segura? I have pretty good backups (Thames and Semien), but having to use them would weaken my DH spot.

    2) If I start Abreu/Segura, then I have to choose two of Thames, Solarte, C. Davis, Semien, Kepler at DH. If not, then my choices are two of Solarte/Davis/Kepler

Note: as it stands now, it looks like the Brewers will be facing 6 righties this week, so hopefully that means Thames gets in every game.

    • Richie Suess says:
      (link)

@Skeezix: i know you came here for an experts opinion but i have Segura and will be benching him, with early locks on Monday, can’t take any risks. Good luck bro! Win the title!

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      @Skeezix: 1. Segura doesn’t sound like he’s going to play — I’d go Thames 2. Solarte, Davis

    1) Picked up Lugo last night with my last move of last week so should I start the week off by starting these two today?

    Weaver vs. CHC (14.9)
    Lugo vs. ATL (3.8)

    2) Also I’ll need to plan my 6 adds/streamers for the week later tonight after work but for now I’m assuming I should be grabbing maybe Gausman and Wacha here?

    9/26

    2018 Keeper question

11 team league, we get to keep any 5 players forever. Next year we are adding a 12th team and have an expansion draft. I get to keep 4 players and depending on if i lose any players in the expansion draft i get to pick my 5th keeper from what i have left.

I have three no doubters in Trout, Betts and Arenado so i need to pick 1 more. So out of these possible guys what are the top 3 keepers? The first one i would keep and one of the next two would be my 5th if i lost one of the expansion draft.

Thanks for another great year Gray.

    Hoskins
    Carrasco
    Smoak
    Rosario
    Matt Olson
    DJ LeM

Thats the order i see them in, you see anything different?

@Will: I saw the SB pop up on my stats in ESPN, then disappear shortly after. Wasn’t watching live, but just checked the play by play and the replay on the MLB app. Looks like it was a three base Pedroia error after the PO/CS, where Hamilton came all the way home to score. So I guess because it was an error, no SB. And ESPN is just slow to catch up.

16 team h2h dynasty. 6×6 with OPS. i’m in the finals. i have kipnis on the DL but think I’m going to needs his ABs as the indians most likely rest jose ramirez and santana (both on my roster) a good bit over the next week. in order to activate him I need to drop somebody. the 2 most likely candidates are mike minor or kyle gibson. My other CL are treinen, neris, and rivero (maybe price gets a rogue save too). other SPs are teheran, sonny, duffy, quintana, salazar, gausman, verlander, alex wood, peacock, brault, clevinger.

would you drop minor or gibson? the other option is to demote brault and cut oscar de la cruz from my minors roster. I don’t need to make the move until tomorrow at the earliest since kipnis is off today.

@Cram It: Was wondering where you went… I don’t want to jinx anything, but I’m ten points up in 1st and am starting DL’d starters this week to avoid blowups… Should have it locked up with the win

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Grey: Sweet! I think you’re safe with less than a week to go. I’m doing the opposite, I’m throwing every available starter I have out there in hopes of 9 complete game shutouts. Is Bauer getting another start? NFBC doesn’t reflect it.

Final thoughts on keeper (keep 5) picks for 2018 obp/ops H2H categories league, 12 teams? Here’s who I’m planning to keep / let go at keeper lock . . .

    PLANNING TO KEEP
$51 Goldy (would go for $60+ at auction . . . *people keep their studs, so the few remaining studs at auction go for a very high markup compared to what they should)
    $13 Upton
    $4 Severino
    $5 Rhys
$5 Domingo (tentative on this vs. a Bryce type, because he honestly could sneak by and probably be drafted for $5-$10, tops, next year in this league)

    PLANNING TO LET GO
$58 Harper (would go for $60-65)
    $58 Kershaw (probably market value)
    $26 Dozier
    $5 Devers
    $5 Olson
    $6 Nola
    $23 Darvish
    $16 Stroman

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: Only difference I could maybe see is Devers over Goldy, just have to think whether you want to bid $60 at auction vs. $15 for Devers… Prolly go with Goldy

      • Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
        (link)

@Grey: Thanks! Yeah I hear ya on that. Might stick with Goldy even if the net value isn’t there, solely to guard against the scenario where everyone else keeps their overpriced studs + people want to bid insane $ on the guys I toss back (Trout went for $70 believe it or not last year in the same situation . . . people be cray!).

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Yeah, that could happen too, and Devers goes for at most, what? $20?

          • Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
            (link)

@Grey: TOPS. We’re all yankee fans in this league, so he will be overlooked. Same goes for Domingo Santana . . . he could honestly go for under $5 next year and it wouldn’t shock me . . . sort of why I was eyeing Harper or Dozier despite the high salary.

            • Grey

              Grey says:
              (link)

Gotcha, yeah, definitely go Goldy there

Chris Archer 5 games before forearm strain:

    ERA: 9.75
    WHIP: 2.10

My pitching staff is C-Mart, Ed-Rod, Morton, Nola and Hendricks along with some strong relief. We rolled over Strasburg, Bummy, Kluber and Sale last week. I call this the Razzball way. Any chance that you would sit Bryant (3 at home vs Reds and 4 at Cardinals) for Scooter (away at Brewers and Cubs) and would you sit Rendon (4 at home vs Pirates and 3 at Phillies) for Odor (7 at home vs Astros and A’s)……Odor has a home OPS of 784 versus 532 on the road. Concerned that Bryant & Rendon will be well rested leading into the playoffs.

    last minute lineup question:

Weekly league, H2H (need Runs and HR more than RBI, SB, or AVG)
Looking to fill one final UT position

    Options are:
    A Jackson
    Hanniger
    B. Philips (who I would use, but he was dropped to 5th or 6th yesterday so more RBI, less R)
    Cesar Hernandez?
    Matt Chapman
    R. Healey

Giving SON a try during my championship week to see if I can find some hidden gems to counter my opponents pitching of Greinke, Sale, Weaver, Morton, Duffy, Shark, and F-Her

I made it to the championship off the backs of waivers and Clevinger and Peacock as my only rotation mainstays.

According to SON though, Peacock is -9 so I might have to leave him benched, and SON doesn’t forecast Clevinger as a starter this week. Therefore, it looks like I’ll need to roll with 6 streamers this week:

This is what I am thinking of:
    1. Newcomb @ NYM
    2. Straily v. ATL
    3. Snell v. BAL
    4. Cueto v. SD
    5. Pivetta v. NYM
    6. Tomlin v. CHW

    – This is incredibly risky with rolling 4 guys on the last day of the season, so hopefully Clevinger gets in a start this week.
-One thing I noticed is that SON has Kuhl at +10 v. BAL – is SON drunk or am I missing something here? SON also likes Gausman @ PIT tomorrow (+7/4)… but I just can’t bring myself to go there

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Kuhl @ home isn’t bad, PIT is not a good team

      • William Hung says:

@Grey: Would you roll Gausman tomorrow instead of Tomlin v. CHW?

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Last day of the season Tomlin? He’s gonna go 4 IP and turn it over to bullpen with no regulars playing

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

@Grey: Good point… but Cueto, Snell, and Pivetta should be going as far as they can on that last day right?

I have a 25 inning min. that I gotta hit. I had no idea Clevinger wasn’t starting this week until today

    E. Rosario, Buxton, K. Seager, Smoak?

Last one! I have to choose one of Chris Davis, who only plays 5 games (@PIT, @TB), Kepler with 6 (DET, @CLE), and Abreu with 7 (LAA, @CLE). It sounds like Kepler might be OK to play, though not as confident in Abreu. Should I go with the sure healthy player in Davis even though he has less games? It’s coming down to the wire!

Anyone rolling the corpse of Jon Lester out this week for 2 starts against a St. Louis team at home in a must win, and against Cincy on Saturday? I’m thinking he probably won’t even make his 2nd start and he’s been absolutely abysmal. Seems completely lost. Walks through the roof and strikeouts have dried up.

    Alternative 2 starts pitchers are:

Junis @ NY and home vs Arizona
Mengden home vs Seattle and @ Texas
Bridwell @ ChiSox and home vs Seattle (on waivers)

    One start pitchers include:

    Lamet @ LAD
    Corbin @ KC

Which 2 or the 2 start guys should I roll with between Lester, Junis, Mengden or Bridwell?

Or should I consider the one start guys instead?

Thanks Grey for the wisdom and comedy all season. Much appreciated!

          Mengden

        • skadoosh says:
          (link)

@skadoosh: Went with 2 starts from Mengden and benched Lester. Sadly the only team Lester has had success against this year is St. Louis. However, I just couldn’t count on him this whole 2nd half. Absolutely brutal, and the Cards are fighting for their playoff lives. Even if he starts that 2nd game he’d probably make 50 pitches max. Hopefully it isn’t 95°with the wind blowing out in Arlington for Mr. Mustache!

First day after the fantasy season ends sucks. Good year with your advice. Thanks. Best record during our regular season, finished 3rd in the playoffs. Injuries to Conforto, Nelson, Carlos Rodon, Andrew Miller all killed me.

Sucks you lost in the playoffs!

Well Grey I finally completed that trade I was asking you about. I got Godley and Cast for Folty, Flaherty, Barreto and Tapia. Now I need a pitcher out of these options for 2018. Wins and net wins, whip, K’s, ERA.
    Mahle
    McHugh
    Mengden
    Nicasio
    Parker
    Robertson
    Stephenson
    Suter
    Treinen
It’s a 12 team roto dynasty. Not much to chose from but I’m thinking either Stephenson to see if the walks go down or a closer. Who would you add to your roster?

      None are interesting, try Stephenson

HAHA! Paxton South and a 227 reference, in a baseball blog?!?! Vintage Albright! Punched ticket to finals with a sunday ChazzNoir dong, crazy week! 1 more to go, gotta bring it home, homies and 6-ish Homettes… Heres the scenario.
H2H standard 5×5, 3 moves left, I have the Tiebreak
-Bats are golden, added a dropped billy ham so ditto on legs.
-Pitching lines up wonky.. If all scheduled SP go, he has 3 more starts than me and 3 more moves.. I have 5 closers to his 4 so…

    1. Do I dare count on a Kershaw start @ coors? Does he even get his turn with playoffs coming?

    2. I hate punting BUT He’s throwing kitchen sink of SP at me, so I’m thinking I should play matchups, take saves and era/whip, and bank on my offense to take 2 or 3 categories.

    3. 3 closers dropped last week, whos the add for most saves? Dyson, Claudio, Familia, Ziegler, Minor?

4 he has scherzer, degrom going FRI/SAT.. You think scherzer gets skipped?.. I’m hoping so…

I think I know what to do but wanted to consult with a ‘pert.

    Much love.

Nice! 1. I wouldn’t count on it 2. That makes sense 3. Claudio 4. Scherzer will be skipped or only throw 3 IP

Out of my 3 leagues, I have 1 championship and 2 stinkers. I’ll take the championship! Thanks for the help during the season. What’s next? Keepers of course!

    12 Team H2H Category
OBP instead of AVG, SVHD instead of SV
Keepers can be kept indefinitely with no penalty.

    Please pick 4:

    Goldy
    Springer
    Trea Turner
    Gary Sanchez
    Hoskins
    Olson
    Pham
    Lamb

Time for some tough choices, I have:

    Segura (won’t play till weekend)
    Olson (done for the season)
    Puig (in the doghouse)
    Abreu (DTD)

Do I drop Puig for Teoscar?
Drop Olson for Healy or Lind
    Drop Segura for MI?

I feel like my team is falling apart on me. Already dropped Beckham for Semien and Ryu for a streamer.

    Thanks

Yes, Teoscar…Yes, Healy… Yes, lose Segura

Guess I should have benched Weaver-Had him on all 3 of my teams battling for championship. Hard to overcome ERA of 24.00 and Whip of 3.00. Looks like I will be streaming my butt off now.

Gotta love baseball-never know what can happen.

Thanks again for your help this year

Especially if Mil is still battling for playoff spot.

    What’s up Grey,
thanks for the fun write ups and info. Week 2 of H2H championship. Big lead in Wins and K’s. Protecting a lead in ratios (it was a big lead until Weaver today.) Which of these starts do you like for ERA and WHIP?

    Hill – vs. SD
    S. Gray – vs. TB
    Peacock – @ BOS
    Bumgarner – vs. SD
    Weaver – vs. MIL
    Kluber – vs. CWS

    Peacock @ BOS?

@Brian Armstrong: I mean no on Peacock, Weaver and Gray right?
