Eugenio Suarez goes back to the Mariners, and you have to imagine it’ll be nice for him to see some familiar faces and sights. Flying into the city again for the first time, Eugenio looks out at the Space Needle, wistfully, he asks, “When did they add that Giant Peach?” It’s gotta be nice for him to return where the dead fish fly into newspaper, the music smells of grunge and coffee smells of grind. [breathes in] Too bad the park sucks. What will Eugenio do in Seattle? Let’s put on our big Smart Guy hats and try to calculate it! Oh, I know, we can just look. One year, he hit 31 homers and .236 and one year he hit 22 homers and .232 in 162 games. Yeah, maybe the park does factor. He is way more locked-in this year (he had the most homers for a player in a midseason trade), so maybe he’s returning as a new-and-improved hitter. I 100% doubt it, but maybe. His last 162 games: .273, 53 HRs, 134 RBIs, so maybe he is better. Still doubt it. But maybe. Perhaps he’ll see former teammate Josh Naylor and he’ll tell him the secret to success in Seattle: Steal a base every game to keep your fantasy people happy. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Julio Rodriguez – 1-for-4 and his 19th homer, and, like, 19th homer since the break. How nice would it be if he actually had a solid 1st half? Ooh, ooh! [raises hand] I’ll answer! It would be nice!
Randy Arozarena – 2-for-4 and his 21st homer, and yesterday he achieved the 20/20 club for the 5th time. He is a Rice Bowl best served hot, bibimbap!
Brent Rooker – 2-for-4 and a slam (23) and legs (4), 2nd homer in two games. Whatever, wake me when he’s good! Hey, wait a minute, I am awake.
Miguel Andujar – 2-for-4 and two homers (5, 6). Yankees could use someone like that.
Darell Hernaiz – 2-for-3 and a slam (1) and legs (1). We have a new most random slam & legs of the season! Move over Kyle Isbel!
Mason Miller – A’s had a lead and chose not to use Miller to (pun) save him for a trade today, possibly. Grab Jack Perkins, if you want those sweet A’s saves.
Jhoan Duran – Traded to the Phils, which means Jhoan goes from being a Twinkie to a Tastykake. This trade went down on July 30th, which means Matt Strahm will be closing for them on September 1st. I’m sorry, Duran, the curse of Brad Lidge is too powerful. You cannot overcome. You can merely try! Jordan Romano tried! Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering tried! David Robertson almost tried! Seranthony Dominguez tried! Jose Alvarado tried! Craig Kimbrel tried! Corey Knebel tried! Hector Neris tried for like three years! Jeanmar Gomez tried–Well, he barely tried. Hopefully, Jhoan is stronger than some stupid Curse of Brad Lidge (established in 2011). In Minny-Soda, Griffin Jax stonks to the moon. Unless they get a new pitching coach named Brad Lidge. Then cursed! Even a guy named Lad Ridge would be bad.
Ryan Helsley – Headed to the Mets. Wow! Mets vs. Phils in the pen wars! It’s like Ali vs. Frazier! Um, Ali Jesus Castillo vs. Todd Frazier. Or I guess Ali-ec Bohm vs. Walt Frazier throwing out the first pitch? I don’t know! Ya know what, you figure out a comp for once! Helsley loses almost all value in the Mets’ pen and, boy, that sucks in the leagues where I have him. Not super happy about this! In St. Louie, I’d go with Phil Maton, who’s been excellent.
Tyler Rogers – Traded to the Mets. That’s a solid addition for the playoffs, but he really should be on the Twins. Taylor Rogers and Tyler Rogers were both involved in trades yesterday, and Mom Rogers blew through her monthly new uni allowance in one day.
Clay Holmes – 3 2/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 3.45. No worries, he’ll be in the bullpen by, when’s the trade deadline, uh, deadline?
Francisco Alvarez – Left the game after taking a foul tip off his melon. Mets’ pitcher/catcher battery took battery literally and figuratively.
Gavin Sheets – 1-for-2, 2 RBIs and a slam (15) and legs (2). He’s been miserable since roughly June 1st.
Yu Darvish – 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, zero walks, 7 Ks, ERA at 6.46. Vintage Yu. Will you get Vintage Yu again next time? Impossible to say, but he’s usually been solid when healthy.
Mick Abel – Headed to the Twins in the Duran deal, and joining Abel is catcher, Eduardo Tait. Twins could make Abel into a big-league ace, but I got a pile of couldas and shouldas that I’d love to sell you from my 50% off pile.
Matt Wallner – 1-for-3 and his 13th homer, 2nd homer in four games. Well, four games for him, I don’t know if it’s in Twins games, because Baldelli refuses to play anyone consistently, whether they’re hot or not.
Zebby Matthews – 4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 5.67. I can sense if a guy is only being asked about for AL-Only leagues, and Zebby is not; he’s being asked about for mixed leagues. Seems a bit crazy.
Trevor Story – 2-for-3, 2 runs, and his 17th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. Ya know who he’s setting up, right? The people who next year say stuff like, “You go ahead and draft Trea Turner, I’m gonna take Story ten rounds later and get all the value!”
Jarren Duran – 3-for-5, 3 runs, 4 RBIs and his 11th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. Hopefully he gets traded just so I can get mad at the Sawx.
Masataka Yoshida – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and a slam (1) and legs (2). Damn, just his luck he had the 2nd most random slam & legs the day Hernaiz achieved it.
Brayan Bello – 7 IP, 1 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.19. Gave you a Brayan Bello fantasy not that long ago. Nothing’s changed but the date.
Ke’Bryan Hayes – Traded to the Reds for Sammy Satura and Taylor Rogers. Damn, the Reds have never met a corner infielder who was not really that good that they can’t get excited about. From Jeimer to Noelvi to CES to Ke’Bryan, the halls in Cincy are littered with corner infielder gloves that fit well and next to each glove it says, “If you see a bat, please contact” with a phone number. Personally, I like my 3rd baseman to be able to hit, but to each their own, I suppose.
Zack Littell – Traded to the Reds. Prior to the trade, he went 5 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners (4 BBs), 4 Ks, ERA at 3.58 on the Rays vs. the Yanks. He had a 1.2 BB/9 coming into this game but he threw four walks yesterday. What the Litt-hell? I don’t know, but pretty bizarre. How bizarre, he says, wondering if that’s a TikTok trend still, but thinking that might’ve been last week or four years ago. Littell gives up a ton of homers, so I didn’t love him, and don’t think this helps his value. Prolly stays pretty neutral. Who is in the Rays’ rotation is now an excellent question. Maybe Taj Bradley returns from the minors, maybe Joe Rock. No, I didn’t make up that name. Can’t you smell what he’s cooking?
Blake Snell – Will start on Saturday. Woohoo! I’m basking in this news because in two days, when he goes 2 2/3 IP, 4 ER, I will no longer be basking.
Shohei Ohtani – 3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 2.40, 0-for-5. At the end of his outing, he threw a few pitches that missed badly and left with a trainer. They said it was cramps, and he stayed in to hit, so I’m guessing he’s fine, Shruggy the Emoji.
Freddie Freeman – 1-for-2, 2 RBIs and his 11th homer. Gonna go out on a pretty sturdy limb here and say you have no idea how low Freeman is on the Player Rater. He’s not a top 50 player next year; I’m not sure he’s top 100.
Austin Slater – Traded to the Yankees. ‘Member Eddie Murphy’s Raw bit with momma’s making her own burger rather than getting it from McDonald’s? Yankees are making a whole team out of homemade burgers.
Trent Grisham – 1-for-3 and his 18th homer. Well, sure, he’s hitting leadoff in front of Judge–Oh wait.
Will Warren – 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.64. A downright normal outing from him. Usually it’s like 5 IP, 4 ER, 11 Ks. Will Warren, get normal in your old age?
Colson Montgomery – 1-for-4 and his 5th homer, and his 2nd homer in three games, third homer in a week games, fifth homer since the Break and holy schmotatoes!
Miguel Vargas – 1-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 13th homer. Also, in this game, Edgar Quero (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) hit his 3rd homer, and Kyle Teel (2-for-4, 2 runs) hit his 2nd homer. Each rounded the bases saying the same thing, “Please, Luis Robert, take us with you.”
Brandon Marsh – 2-for-4 and his 5th homer, 2nd homer in two games. Said this yesterday, but Marsh is good for 10-14 homers on the year, and has some in the tank still.
Cal Quantrill – 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.79. If this is his last outing with the Marlins, I just want to be the first to say, Calrrivederci.
Jesus Sanchez – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 10th homer, hitting .256. Speaking of trades, Jesus would look good with the Padres. Not to play, but to make wine.
Calvin Faucher – 1 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 3.73, and his 10th save. Wonder if 2025 Marlins’ Manager even knows Ronny Henriquez is the closer.
Ronald Acuña Jr. – Diagnosed with a calf strain, which sounds like good news. Unless you’re the cow giving birth. Acuña will miss two to three weeks.
MacKenzie Gore – 5 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 3.80. Sigh. I guess the good news is he’ll be affordable in drafts next year.
Ramon Urias – Traded to the Astros. He could’ve just kept his original team and played for the AstrO’s. O’s well. Speaking of O’s, I wonder if they’ve asked the commissioner if it’s okay if they just trade the entire team and not play anymore. Astros have two spots for Urias to play, but all Urias needs is one hole [places hand under armpit, makes farting noise]. Camden was best in baseball for homers, after Dodgers Stadium and The Big Radish, Daikin, is middle of the pack. Urias is more or less who he is.
Yainer Diaz – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 15th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. Picking your catcher scab rarely works out.
Jose Altuve – 4-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 18th homer. One of the all-time great short guys. Ranking of short guys: 1. The Rizzler (if a little person and not kid, I don’t know), 2. Me 3. There’s no 3. 4. Altuve. [finger to earbud] What am I doing on that list? I’m 5′ 7″ and three-quarters! That’s almost average!
Ryan Gusto – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.92. Incredible how he out-pitched Gore. Yes, I’m still annoyed! Streamonator hates Gusto with, uh, gusto.
Kerry Carpenter – 2-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 17th homer. Carpenter nailed it!
Tyler Locklear – Headed to the DBacks in the Suarez trade. Crazy, Locklear traded on the same day the Pirates got Sambora Satura. Locklear went 19/18/.316 with a 21.9% K% in Triple-A and I’m unsure why he was in the minors, but he shouldn’t be anymore. Seems like a NL-Only grab for now, and will monocle for mixed leagues.
Chris Paddack – 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 hits, zero walks, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.77. Tigers fixed him already? Wow, send them Sandy Alcantara! Actually, am I being sarcastic here or not? I’m not even sure. I wouldn’t trust Paddack, yet.
Jake Rogers – 1-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer. Can’t throw the ball anywhere in Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. Hey, I just realized it should be Mr. Rogers’s Neighborhood. What the eff, Fred!
Logan Webb – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 9 baserunners (4 BBs), 11 Ks, ERA at 3.31. Webb gem!
Mike Burrows – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.88. Something to keep in mind from now until the end of the year. It’s not a bad idea to stream against teams who are selling and/or out of it. This game was of two teams selling and/or done. With that said, Burrows’s peripherals look solid — 9.3 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, 3.81 xFIP in 58 IP — and had great stats in the minors, if a bit old (he’s 25). Likely Streamonator in mixed leagues, but worth a monocle.
Ryan O’Hearn – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 13th homer. If that is his last game with the O’s, he’ll–Kidding! O’s will never trade O’Hearn and play their prospects. Don’t be ridiculous.
Jordan Westburg – 2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer. He hit five homers in July with a near-.350 average. Yeah, that’s pretty good.
Nathan Lukes – 1-for-2, 3 RBIs and his 9th homer. He’ll be in this week’s Buy column, which I know because it’s already on the Patreon.
Myles Straw – 3-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 2nd homer. So committed to being Straw he’s always sucking.
Luis Garcia – Traded to the Angels. No, not that one. The RP one. Why? No idea. Angels also got Andrew Chafin, and Nats got back Jake Elder and Sam Brown. I want those keystrokes back.
Nathan Eovaldi – 7 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 1.49 vs. Jose Soriano – 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.65. This was a matchup of one team that is buying and one team that is selling, and the team buying is behind the one selling by three games.
Freddy Peralta – 4 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.08. We had avoided the Slumdog Millionaire bathroom-month of FreddyKBB stats so far. Brace yourself for the incoming doodie, it’s his way.
William Contreras – 2-for-4 and his 7th and 8th homer. Welcome to the 2025 season, William!
Andrew Kittredge – Traded to the Cubs. Kittredge brings with him a lot of drama, starring Francis McDormand.
Mike Soroka – Traded to the Cubs. Underlying numbers say he should be a lot better. A lot better than Colin Rea, Cade Horton, and Ben Brown. Will Soroka show up, give up a quick 5 ER, and be relegated to long relief or bump someone else and live up to his promise? Not sure, but it’s worth monocle’ing to see. My guess is Soroka’s value went up, but not much higher than a Streamonator call in shallower mixed leagues.
Michael Busch – 1-for-5 and his 21st homer. He hit a leadoff homered off FreddyKBB, because FreddyKBB sucked yesterday. Well, not only that reason, but I’m bitter.
Ian Happ – 1-for-2 and his 15th homer. Didn’t go to the IL, as I previously reported. I wanted to apologize–[cane drags me off stage, shakes loose] What the hell? I heard he was injured and he wasn’t. Cubs still brought up Moises Ballesteros (1-for-2, 3 RBIs), after they DFA’d Vidal Brujan instead. Brujan’s gone because Happ’s shin is fine–[cane drags me off stage again].
Injury bug hit (Judge, springer, meadows, Jung and Kim on IR)
I need a bench bat to replace at least one.
Best bats available: O’Hearn, Burleson, Steer, which would you go with?
It’s a dynasty league, would you drop meadows?
Thanks
With the trades of relievers in San Francisco Who has more saves/holds value with Rodriguez in San Fran or Roger’s with the Mets.
dick rod’s been like a top 5 RP all year, saves instead of holds in one of the best parks for pitchers shouldn’t hurt him, unless you wanted holds only.
I have been going for the hottest bat at CI in 5x 5 league. Now it is C Montgomery. But Semien hit the WW. Try to get Semien and drop Monty or continue with the baty calls?
Seiya, Donovan and Ivan all been struggling past month or so. Other manager is a Cards fan. Send two birds for the Cub?
Seiya side, it’s not close
my jebus saves only is annoying, but that’s what my biggest money/local league is (14’er h2h). have:
g.taylor, duran (whew, went to PHI, probably good), palencia, halvorsen, cano, jax
seems jax for sure is a drop, and cano while likely better than the younger c.martin (career indicates is really bad), maybe not akin though, so probably him too, but after jax, as i only have 2 adds left on week. was all set to not get beat by 3-5 minutes all day on mattison if/when d-sant got moved, but he didn’t.
options (got beat by like 3-5 minutes twice on ferrer and sands (gotta note how i’ve probably never seen a team clean out it’s best 5 bullpen guys in 2 days like MIN just did):
only good news, i also havve s.miller who actually sounds back in few weeks on IR, so only one of those cano/jax roster spots used up for not getting saves in not long.
Shelby was traded
MF’er. even with having rotoworld AND mlb.com’s transactions page open all day i’m STILL behind on some of these, about 2 hours late to correa: it went from like 11 am “correa to HOU” to like an hour later “nope, MIN ain’t taking on enough of his crazy contract” to he did go to HOU, i’m imaging correa on an open train car, arriving wearing a space age boot like seen in star trek or something with healing factors in it, sitting on a pile of 40 million in 100’s (think half of walter white’s barrels or so). seriously, HOU, the same team that offered correa nothing a few years back, since they knew about the foot thing (the mess and SF found out and backed out, but MIN didn’t care), same team that trucked off tucker at prime career age since they won’t pay him, taking on correa’s nutballs contract, even if it’s only half of it.
and where is he even playing by next year, paredes at 3B, pena at SS, i guess 2B for him or pena.
yeah i’m refreshing the MLB.com transactions page, i don’t want that job for sure, but they’re a bit behind on these. correa was at least 2 hours late, j.sanchez late, s.miller now late (blurb was from a few minutes ago the spot yahoo uses).
You should be using https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Nothing else is even close for this, and I’ve heard that MLB execs themselves use it.
except that part about it i guess besides today being “rumors” so maybe today it’s worthy, unless it actually only posts actual trades and is misnamed.
here’s one that pretty much proves these writers (at least some) are utterly full of shit, and i got a name to remember forever for everybody from it:
about 4 days prior to lugo resigning one “writer” named jeff passan says lugo is one of the MOST likely to be traded guys, then 4 days later is the one to break the news of his resigning yet of course just hopes everybody forgets 4 days earlier. this one smells real damn bad. i’m sure he’ll point to his being the first to note the resign as proof of his “insider” status for sure, yet just ignore 4 days earlier claiming exactly the opposite. either somebody on KC is trying to make him look like a lying POS or he’s just a lying POS, and we’ll never hear about what “source” (assuming that actually exists) would’ve told him about the being traded away, even if it exists. i guess also it’s quite possible somebody else on KC told his “source” this to try to find out who’s leaking info to the press, also possible, but it still doesn’t help anybody to trust anything jeff passan says forever into future.
Jon Heyman on X/Twitter was the place to be.
Rob, Martin, Newcomb
wow what a day
Surprised the Dodgers didn’t do more
Padres had a great day
Regarding closers how would you rank your favorites for saves
Vesia
Jack Perkins
Cano
Ferrer
Sands
Yates
O’Brien
Cano, Sands, Vesia
Thanks Grey
You think Miller is worth an IL spot
He was awful before he got hurt
if you mean shelby he had a 312 FIP and sub 2 ERA and sub 1 WHIP when injured. i’d love to hear how many not “awful” RP MLB even has if he was. likely not saves anymore though, might not even be ahead of uribe now. if yr referencing one bad outing where he was pitching injured during it, yeah maybe, but again, i’d love to hear how many RP’s aren’t “awful” when pitching injured.
yeah tied on the razzball FIP rater for 51st for RP’s. interestingly ferrer is just better than him, that one shocked me, i can remember at least 2 really horrible blowups of his, twice dropping even in 20’ers with like 6 RP started daily from those, esp the 2nd one.
I’m the dong who is always pointing this out, but Perkins and Sands have added value because they qualify at SP in both Y! and ESPN. Are they really good? No. But when you don’t need to use all of your SP spots, you can get an extra crack at a save at the same time you are using all of your RP and P slots looking for them.
Shelby traded to the Brewers. Not going to close ahead of Megill, right? Especially as he’s on the IL haha.
Ferrer and Sands pretty much same-same? I’ve already bragged Sands, would be burnign a move to grab Ferrer too/instead…
No, Shelby is not the closer
Sands is better
Yeah, and thanks. Own Megill anyway, but have Shelby as an IL stash. Not so valuable in that slot now, though I am in a Holds league…
No problem
One more question
Will Laureano get consistent playing time in SD?
I don’t see why they’d trade for him to not play him
depthcharts in the last less than 2 hours moved laureano from loogy side LF to starter (sheets is the loser in current arrangement, i hope this is right, have laureano numerous spots but sheets none)
12 team dynasty h2h league. ros: laureano, Cowser or Karpenter? Would drop Yoshida.
Thanks
Carp
Do u think Cabellaro gets more or less playing time with Yanks?
less
What are your thoughts on Caballero playing time in NYY. Less, more, same? He qualifies at 4 spots and is a nice bench piece for me to plug in for daily lineups but is useless if he doesnt see the field. Thanks
less
NL-Only, H2H w/ OBP
A) JoJo Romero is already on a team, so I picked up Leahy over O’Brien even though O’Brien’s ratios and K/9 are better because a couple of sites had Leahy higher up. What do you think the pecking order might be in STL?
B) Do you think WAS will go with a committee to close? I picked up Ferrer right when I saw that Finnegan was traded.
D) I picked up Heriberto Hernandez with Jesus Sanchez getting traded for Casey Schmidt. Do you think he can be an NL-Only impact bat going forward?
E) Do you think Ben Brown will make his scheduled start on Saturday @BAL, or will CHC skip him with the addition of Soroka.
1. Romero, O’Brien, Leahy B. Prolly a committee D. sure E. wouldn’t be shocked if he’s skipped
Thanks! I wish I had picked up RO’B for the better stats, but I followed what Closer Monkey and Roster Resource had. I dropped Brown for Leahy, so was just seeing if you shared my intuition of him being skipped.
Ok
What about C.)?
There’s never a “C” ;)
ROB has what a ton of coaches lean into for closers, righty and throws 100, neither jojo (a small mexican lefty) nor leahy (hehe want to make a man pissing on himself joke from trailer park boys here).
Robert Suarez didn’t get moved. Assuming he’s a drop now? I see rumblings the Padres would like Mason Miller to be a starter but assuming that couldn’t happen until next year. Thanks!
Miller is the closer
Hey Grey,
I got offered Buxton, Hunter Greene , Cedanne Rafaela (kept for 14th in 2026) and a 12th round pick for my Roman Anthony (kept for a 12th in 2026) and a 10th rounder
League is OPS, BA, RUN, RBI, HR, SB
What are your thoughts?
Is this for this year? Next year? Are Bux and Greene not keepers? Clearly Buxton side is much better, it’s not close for this year
Buxton keeper cost would be round 7, Hunter Greene round 4. Yes, this year its a win, but I already have of OF Jazz, J Rod, Acuna, Yordan and Yelich.
I think it comes down to Rafaela vs Roman in the years ahead….
Roman
Sounds fine if it’s for next year
Holy Guacamole, all my closers just became setup guys….
How would you rank the following for saves now?
That rank seems fine, maybe move Sands up to above Romero
Thank you.
It’s like throwing darts blindfolded…
Any idea who will he the closer in SF between Dirty Randy and RWalk?
And I assume you like either of those over Santana…. because PIT is terrible?
thanks as always and I know you’re guess is probably as good as mine.
Randy-Rod — Meh, Bednar got saves in terrible Pitt
12 team, SV/H- Will Stewart have holds value in LA. thanks
Sure
12 team mixed keeper, would you rather have Snell or Seiya going forward? Is it close?
Thanks!
Seiya, not really close
Thanks! How about Seiya or Buxton? Close? Buxton’s injury history is rather terrifying.
Seiya
Thank you! Two more…Seiya or Arozerena?
And do you think Paredes is top 100 next year?
Spec saves
Drop Bednar for R.Rodriguez or Sands or hold?
hold
Is Doval a drop in a redraft saves league?
You might wanna wait a few days to see how things shake out. There are no givens for NYY bullpen with all those guys. Might be a committee, might even be Doval closing.
Yes
League 2: I have Vest. Is he still the closer with newly acquired Maton? Hold or swap for Robert Garcia or Dennis Santana?
Thanks!
I’d go Garcia and Santana
So do we think it’s Maton closing for TEX now and Rodriguez in SF?
Lurrrrrrves!
Rodriguez in SF, I don’t know in Texas, Garcia’s been fine, but maybe Maton
Thanks, lurveya!
No problem lurves!
Ive got whiplash from this flurry of moves.
Ha
Dangit, Jax to TB & Varland to TOR….
who the heck is gonna close in MIN??
Sands
Taj Bradley….
I think Ive got Sands in 6 draft and holds (two DC, two 50’s, and two Gladiators). Fingers crossed. Me likes!!!
More 1-0 losses ROS, Ryan or EdCab?
Ryan
John Heyman’s fingers must be on fire.
*typing cat meme*
ha
Manzardo or Vientos?
Vientos
Doval, Perkins, Finnegan or Santana
Finnegan
What do you think of Ramon’s trade to San Diego? Do you think he gets full playing time? If not, is he a drop?
See how things shake out in 45 mins, teams are still making trades
What do you think now?
I don’t see why they’d trade for him and not play him
i just asked itch, but dunno if he’s answering but in your opinion who is the take between tyler locklear or basalla ? if of course basalla gets the call after these trades ? thanks grey
Locklear
Mullins to the Mets, Cowser everyday PT now?
You’d hope
If Bednar goes to NYY, who’s the closer?
Who’s the closer where? Pittsburgh? Santana
What about in NY? Think they pull Devin back to setup role and roll with Bednar as closer?
I’m sorry, I meant in NY.
I’d guess Devin is the closer
I’d guess Devin is the closer
Fair to say that we are going to be looking at multiple shituations with closers going forward? Wsh, Bal, and Oak right now. With StL, Min, and Pit possible and NYY and Det maybe happening, too.
Yup
Robot loves Ben Brown (+24.7) vs BAL on Sat but not Horton (-9.0) Tomorrow. Either one worth streaming? Thanks
Both seem ok
Welp, there goes another closer… Bednar to NYY. There goes his closer-value.
I’d say Dennis Santana would be the clear favorite in PIT, but we’ll need to wait to see if he’s traded too.
Yeah
Please rank for ROS. Thanks
W Bernanaby
R Mauricio
T Locklear

Ronny
Hey Grey. I’m considering some trades with a willing trade partner in a 14 team H2H keeper league, OPS instead of avg and QS instead of wins. I’m in first place by ~10 games, though my lead has been dwindling. I don’t have a glaring need, but I still want to get better if I can.
Below are two trades I’m considering, one bigger and one smaller. I’m wondering which, if either, trade you’d do.
Big:
My Aaron Judge (and possibly Tyler Soderstrom) for his Julio Rodriguez, Oneill Cruz, and Blake Snell
Small:
My Tyler Soderstrom for his Oneill Cruz
I don’t know anything about your league, are these keepers, does it matter? Cruz and JRod appear to be slam dunks but who knows
word sorry yeah they’d all be keepers. i can keep Judge for one more season at $45. my trade partner can’t keep JRod ($29) or Cruz ($16) next season. Soderstrom is $1. Snell would be a rental.
Meh, I tend to want Judge and Cruz
Points league. Have to cut one of Otto, Polanco or Ivan. Who goes?
Ivan
Choose 5 for saves ROS: Ferrer, Cano, Corbin Martin, Jojo Romero, Maton, Perkins, Henriquez, Shelby Miller
Maton, Cano, Ronny H., Miller
In my AL only keeper:
Vest or Finnegan?
In my NL only keeper:
Jhoan or Miller?
For what year? Saves now? I say Finnegan
Jhoan but there’s like 15 Millers
Thanks for your thoughtful comment.
Always this year. But I don’t mind looking to the future.
Of course keeper leagues get complicated. I have Vest for $1. The other three are subject to FAAB and will all be overpays.
I think it was commented elsewhere on the thread, but Vest has way better stuff, so making Finnegan the closer when you’re trying to win from the perspective of the Tigers is dumb IMHO. I way cut and paste this into a thread when Finnegan chokes away games in the playoffs.
Yea, could be, but Finnegan in the 8th sounds awful, Vest in the 7th, 8th or 9th sounds perfect
Can you wait until the Tigers say who is going to be closer? My gut is saying Finnegan, and I know Vest is much better
12 team ottoneu points league
Would you trade $7 Shaw for $15 Gleyber?
This format we don’t have a CI and Shaw will be exclusively a 3B next season. I’m not currently playing him hardly at all. Already have a $20 Machado I’m probably keeping.
Sure
Ryan Pepiot. Not Ready For Prime Time- Bush League- Ratios Killer. Poor soul looks like a deer in the headlights.
Why do you say that? Not a nice, but definitely rosterable in a 12 team or greater.
126.1 IP
6 Wins
124 K
3.42 ERA
1.15 WHIP
Ha
I know he had a bad game today, but it was to be expected at NYY. Question to you, do you keep him in a 12 teamer?
Nah
You can’t pitch Pepiot at home in Steinbrenner Field, you can’t pitch him at Yankee Stadium, which is Steinbrenner Field on steroids, you can’t pitch him v decent to good lineups. What’s that leave him, @ White Sox?@ Pirates?
At home his ratios are 3.46/1.14 and he has 84 strikeouts in 78 IP. Sounds good to me.
Hey grey
Down to three closers
Worth dropping Zebby to hunt for #4?
If so, who?
Ferrer, jojo Romero, Jack Perkins all available…
Perkins all day the other 2 are lefties…
Billy Wagner, Sparky Lyle, Josh Hader, Aroldis Chapman and a slew of others would tend to disagree
Perkins looks better and the As have no one else. I traded trout for Chapman this year so I hear you. He is established and on a good team. Also have Hader on a couple teams. They’re all over 95 points in Rcls come play me next year Chucky. I’ll be in the money leagues. All 3 are crap shoots and nowhere near the names you mentioned.
Perkins
Hey Grey
What a day so far. I will wait to ask about closers when the dust settles especially withe Dodgers
In the meantime would you drop Cecconi for
Bello
Springs
Alcantara
Bello
Whos the DROP?
Misi,Eury,Sonny Grey
Gray
Is Finnegan a drop in a saves league?
No
Do you think they’re going to bump Vest from the Closer’s role?
Yes
That would be a head-scratcher considering Vest is, by every available metric, a significantly better pitcher than Finnegan.
I agree with this
Guess wait to see what the Tigers say
True. They might go with the more experienced closer schtick, misguided as I think that is.
Yeah
Ferrer the choice for saves in Washington with Finnegan moving? Is he worth a grab or is this an avoid situation? Ferrers number look blah
Ferrer, Cano or someone from Oakland
I’d go Cano
Can you rank these guys for me please? Vaughn, Colson, Volpe
Colson, Volpe
With Finnigan gone, who wil close for Wash?
Thanks
Ferrer
14 team h2h league
Scraping for SP starts this week. My opponent will have nine starts I’ll have six (if I start everyone)
I’m on fence starting Pepiot @NYY today, not best matchup, but no judge (bc he joined Ragans, Schwellenbech, Bubic, Ober on my IL)
YOLO , right?
YOLO
YOLO!! :(
Oh no!
I know it will never happen, but I would love to see the Rays get someone like Cease or Alcantara. I just want to see how their pitching staff could help them improve. The problem is that they would end up as openers or only going 5 innings regardless of the start because of Cash.
Yeah, true
Kebryan Hayes or Lux ROS in a 5×5?
Neither? I guess Lux
Drop Clay Holmes for Ryne Nelson?
Sure
Hey Grey,
Are you picking up Laureano or Stanton as a ÚTIL bat to fill in until Acuna get back
Ramon
Hey Grey, can you rank these guys for me plz in a vacuum? Colson Mont, Vientos, Ty O Neil
You did
Lenyn Sosa or Matt Shaw?
Shaw
Happy Trade Deadline & National Chili Dog Day!
Gotta save my limited roster moves when all my closers seemingly get traded to teams to be their setup guys (DOH!)
While I wait for that, I have the option to snag Bieber (now in TOR) by cutting Verlander.
I assume you’d make that move, correct?
Also, you don’t think Helsley has any chance to be the closer in NYM, right? assuming that’s the case, who you like best to get me saves (and dropping Helsley):
Oh, and any chance you’re starting Kumar Rocker today @ SEA?
thanks as always!
Yes, Bieber
Diaz is the Mets closer, unless he’s injured, which he doesn’t seem to be
Jax
Forget Kumar
thank you!
And glad you didn’t say Finnegan to replace Helsley… Finnegan just traded to DET.
sheesh, is no closer safe?!
Ha, yup
Not a fan of the padres moves. No wonder they never win anything. They give up elite talent like they are handing out free samples at costco. They have the best bullpen era and whip in the league already. Not sure what else they have planned but come on. Haven’t they learned anything after the fallout of the 1.5 year soto rental that cost them gore. Wood, abrams? Now they unload devries who is a consensus top 3 prospect everywhere. Lets not forget how much Preller paid Bogaerts too.
Ha, yeah, Preller is that guy in everyone’s keeper league
Yep, he is that guy that trades a 1st rd wr or rb in fantasy football in a 3 for 1 trade. You loose every time. When they lose in the playoffs again, they will be right back where they were without an elite prospect who could be a difference maker. If they won with Soto, I can support it. But they did not and they are worse off than they would have beeen if they kept the prospects.
Haha, yup!
DeVries would have been blocked though with Machado, Bogey, Arraez & Crone?
Yeah
And unless DeVries changes positions there’s a guy named Jacob Wilson on his new team that seems pretty entrenched for a while at SS.
Yeah
Unless Wilson goes to 2B down the road?
I don’t think they are done….i think they are going to offer miller and Cease for Duran
NYY need that RP that can get a K when needed … Suarez makes a lot of sense… Cease has always been on their radar
I don’t hate it, if it happens
They got 5
Assuming Maton is still a closer by the end of the day…
Maton or Ronny Henriquez?
Maton
Can Suarez and Cease be headed to the NYY ?
Maybe
M Miller has to be the SDP closer .. Right ?
Yes
Rank the following hitters for 2026? Josh Jung, Steer, Baty, Willi Castro, Josh Smith
Smith, Jung, Baty
Drop Alcantara or a stashed Arrighetti for Maton?
Arrighetti
“I want those keystrokes back.”
This may be one of those moments. I picked up Brad Lord a week ago when there was talk of him possibly closing if Finnegan was moved. If Finnegan is not moved is Lord worth keeping or is he pitching above his pay grade. Thanks, Grey.
Lord was stretched out to be a starter..Ferrer is the setup man now
Ragans, Lawlar for Pages, Westburg. 6×6, dynasty/keeper
Who wins that deal sir?
Pages
Mason Miller to Pads. I assume they’ll move Suarez now. Lots of closer shuffling going on.
Yeah
Keeper league. Trade sasaki and bubic for degrom? Or hold tight to next year? I could place with the trade, but do I mortgage future?
DeGrom side
Hey Grey need some help regarding keepers.
In a 12 team (K, OBP, SLG), 3 player keeper league, with 2 round inflation per consecutive year on keepers until they creep into round 2.
Going to definitely keep PCA 13th round
My other 2 options are between:
Oneil Cruz 5th round
Junior Caminero 10th round
Isaac Paredes 15th round
Jackson Holliday 17th round
Andrew Abbott/Eury Perez 23 round (both FA adds)
Leaning towards Holliday and Eury just for the retention time.
Holliday, Caminero
Thanks grey!
No problem
Morning Grey,
Would you trade Julio for Acuna in keeper league? (Keep 6, 12 team, 6×6 with OPS). Obvious a next year trade.
Thanks Boss
Yeah
Haha. Must have my ESPn on. I was going to throw out if Julio would be higher ranked than Acuna next year given Tildaddy’s injury risk and perhaps way fewer bags. I guess I got my answer.
Haha
I still fear Acuna’s long-term health status?
Yeah, could be
Hey Grey!
RP advice, please
Currently Rostering: Mason Miller, Jhonan Duran, Ryan Walker, Erceg
10Tm H2H ESPN- Saves and Holds
Whick one?
1) Drop any current rostered RP for Jack Perkins or Jax?
or
2) Drop Ben Rice C/1B (currently have C-Goodman 1B-Pasquantino) for Perkins or Jax?
Gracias!
No problemo
I dropped Rice and took Griffin Jax.
Phraseda different way: Would you rather have Jack Perkins or Ryan Walker for saves/holds?
I just heard that Miller went to SD
Perkins
done. again, thanks!
No problem
Is Mookie a buy low in dynasty or is he someone that you would be looking to move on from?
Depends on price, but kinda meh
Hi Grey,
Assuming they are all still closers by the end of day, can you rank the following for saves?
Cade Smith
Griffin Jax
Phil Maton
Robert Garcia
Thanks!
Mike.
Garcia, Maton, Jax
Thanks!
No problem
hi grey, with gino in seattle which side of this offer of gino, josh lowe or springer, semien ?
Gino
Rank the following pitchers for 2026? Taj Bradley, Zebby Matthews, Hayden Birdsong, Tylor Megill
Zebby, Birdsong, taj
Is it a no brainer to accept an offer of Schwarbs for J-Rod in a 6×6 league with OPS? I do need steals…. But also every other category. Here are the rest of my bats:
C- Rice
1- Vlad
2- Altuve
3- Caminero
SS- Trea
OFs: Seiya, J-Rod, Merrill, Arozerena, Rooker
BN: Xander, Simpson
Tough to trade Julio now that he’s finally hot. Thanks as always!
Works for me
How many times do you think the word fleeced was used on twitter yesterday, regarding players none of the people writing it have heard of. I would say a lot. it shouldn’t bother me, but the fact it does is concerning enough I might book a session with that online therapy company that gets all the horrible reviews.
Haha
Who do you like for save in Baltimore? Martin, Akin, or Cano
Cano
10 team H2H points keeper league
Ozzie Albies or Marcus Semien moving forward
Semien
….this painting is from the Schadenfreudist School of the early 2000s. It’s done in the style of Schadenfreudist master Greg Albright. It depicts a kneeling blogger looking to the heavens seemingly crying, “why me Lord?!” while clutching a picture of a red-faced Washington Nationals pitcher. If you look carefully you can see a shodowy figure hidden in the woods behind sporting a Cheshire Cat grin…
HAHA
Betts/James Wood or Rafaela/Yandy Diaz/Eovaldi ?
Wood
James Wood or Schwarber ROS ?
Wood
Hey grey! Think we finally see Lawlar getting full time ABs?
He’s out for weeks with a hammy

Freeman is still top 100 (99)!!
Haha, barely!
julio and booby ju both having very quiet seasons that will probably end up in the to 20
Should be better
Yeah, not bad, should be better

Rodney Dangerfield quote of the day for July 31, 2025
My first wife was Louise. What a relationship we had. Every time I wanted sex, she left the room to give me privacy.
Cheers,
Ante
Wheezing right now. Absolutely wheezing. LMAOLMAO
Thanks!
