The Indians traded Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen for Andrew Miller. A regular Thanksgiving bounty to the Yankees as the Indians received SAGNOF and smallpox. Hopefully, the Indians don’t have reservations later about those prospects they sent for Miller and want them back like, um, a regretful trade partner. For a second this weekend, it appeared that the Indians traded for Miller and Jonathan Lucroy, but Lucroy vetoed the trade. Looks like Milwaukee is a bunch of Brewer-givers. Will say this, it was a bold trade by Cleveland vs. sitting around Indian-style as they did all offseason. So, Miller becomes the de facto closer in Cleveland, and remains a top five closer in fantasy. Cody Allen gets his value boinked on the head and it’s now seeing stars. Mean’s while, in New York, Dellin Betances becomes the 9th inning man for the Yankees and, taking over setup, is their newly acquired, Tyler Clippard. That’s right, the Yankee Clippard! Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Mike Napoli – 1-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 24th homer. On our Player Rater, Napoli has been more valuable than Jake Arrieta. If you know an Arrieta owner that doesn’t own Napoli, please call and check on them to make sure the preceding sentence was taken with a grain of salt, and not arsenic.
Corey Kluber – 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.27. Also, please check on the Kluber owner who thought it was a good time to sell low in April after his 4.24 ERA. We must be here for each other!
Tyler Naquin – 2-for-3, 2 runs, hitting .335, hitting near-.450 in the last week. The power has come down, but he’s still one of the hottest bats in the game. “Hottest bats in the game” is a phrase you never want to hear outside of a baseball context.
Rich Hill – On target to return from the DL on Friday. Will all depend on how his blister reacts. I hope it doesn’t do a spit take. *shudders*
Billy Butler – 1-for-3 and his 4th homer on Saturday. He didn’t just homer on Saturday. He talked smack to Indians’ catcher, Chris Gimenez, hit a bomb, then flipped his bat like he was Jose Bautista after a week at cheerleading camp while only practicing the baton.
Sonny Gray – 3 1/3 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 5.84. You gots to admits I dropped some serious schmohawks this year on your medulla with the guys to avoid due to being overrated.
Matt Kemp – “You want out of San Diego? You really want out? Okay, how does the Braves sound to you?” Kemp looks up, curious, “Buh-buh-buh-buh, they’re not in contention either, are they?” “Be careful what you wish for,” said the Padres’ GM as he closed the book on Kemp. Though, neither party should be thrilled with this trade. Kemp wanted out of San Diego, but I doubt he wanted to hit between Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis. The Padres wanted to move Kemp for a prospect, but they got Hector Olivera, who they immediately designated for assignment. *makes crazy rolly finger by ear motion* You couldn’t trade Kemp for anything at all that you wanted? That’s straight bizzonkers. Either way, Kemp’s fantasy value remains largely unchanged. Kemp moves to a slightly better park, but if there’s one lineup that is actually worse than the Padres, it’s the Atlanta Barfs.
Jeff Francoeur – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 7th homer. A Frenchy fly!
Jerad Eickhoff – 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 baserunners, 1 K, ERA at 3.68. According to the Stream-o-Nator, you have to be a jerkoff to not start Jer-hoff in his next start.
Homer Bailey – 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners (3 BBs), 6 Ks as he was activated from the DL. This was kinda like his last rehab start, coming against the Padres with their lineup without Dickerson (injury) and Kemp. If there was such a thing as a Padres’ fan, I bet they could not name four players in the Padres’ lineup right now. As for Bailey, I wouldn’t own him with your team.
Colin Rea – Left early from his start with elbow soreness. Rea’s out, but those are The Facts of Life. Bring on Cloris Leachman!
Andrew Cashner – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 4.54, in his first game as a Marlin. In my NL-Only leagues where I own Cashner, I was happy to see him stay in the NL. He’s a solid-at-home starter, even with the move. Here’s a little secret, starters are better at home, everywhere, except Coors.
Zach Duke – The Cardinals grabbed him with one of those cheap, no-frills deadline moves that will likely pay the most dividends. Stupid Cardinals and their smart moves!
Aledmys Diaz – Left yesterday’s game after taking a pitch off his hand. He’s day-to-day with a bruised hand. Fun fact! Diaz says his favorite 80s/90s actress is ‘dmys Moore.
Stephen Piscotty – 1-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI as he appeared in the lineup again after being benched for two days due to slumping. At least, that’s what was said. He was hitless for three whole games, but had five homers in July (top power month of his career) and was hitting .278. Wow, what a slump.
Matt Cain – 5 IP, 0 ER, 0 Hits, 4 BBs, 5 Ks, ERA at 5.53. That’s a start that can be described as fantastically awful, and be right in every sense.
Mark Melancon – Was traded to the Nationals. When the Pirates made this trade what were they, three games out of a playoff spot? I mean, I’m all for SAGNOF, and, hell yeah, you trade a closer who is in the last year of his contract, but don’t you get something besides two lefty relievers? Not sure I understand this move from the Pirates’ POV, but maybe they didn’t realize how far out of the playoff picture they were. Depth perception can be thrown off by an eye patch. Obviously, Melancon takes over the 9th for the Nationals. I’m sure Papelbon will be a great teammate, and happily work out of the 8th. Shucks, I meant to put that in sarcasm font. As for the Pirates, the Pirates’ GM said Tony Watson would take over the 9th, but he’s a lefty and I’d happily hold Neftali. I believe that’s a Spanish pun. De nada.
Jameson Taillon – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.52. Don’t mind the trade I did with Andy Behrens when I sent Jake McGee for Taillon, back when McGee was a closer still. By the way, my biggest pet peeve with trading is when you receive a note like this, “I have hitting (or pitching or closers) to spare, make me a fair offer.” The person who wants to trade should not be asking me to figure out a trade. If you want to trade, figure out a trade and offer it to me. Does this work for people? Just sending random emails saying, “Hey, do you want to trade? Offer me something.” This is the worst!
Gregory Polanco – 1-for-3 and his 15th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games, hitting .287. Brocktune!
Hernan Perez – 2-for-4, 2 runs and two steals (17, 18) and his 7th homer on Saturday. Was a hot schmotato last week, now he’s on next level schmotatoness.
Keon Broxton – 1-for-2 and his 2nd homer. Has now played every game for a week straight, hitting over .300 in that time, and I grabbed him in one league because Broxton has upside and I’m a sucker for upside.
Chris Carter – 1-for-2 and his 24th homer, and his 2nd homer in his last three games. Carter can get smoking hot for power, and is still a good bet for 32-35 homers and he’s now at 24. You do the math! What do you mean you can’t because you have a solar calculator and your eczema won’t let you go in the sun? Do you think a solar calculator was a good purchase when you spend your entire day inside by your computer?
Jake Barrett -1 1/3 IP, 1 ER and the save on Saturday. With Clippard gone, Barrett will take over the Diamondbacks’ closer role. Jake Barrett can be better than Jacinda Barrett in Bloodline, but worse than more than half the league’s closers for saves. I.e., Barrett will fall between a low-end Donkeycorn and high-end Brain Freeze.
Braden Shipley – 6 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.76 thru two starts. What’s with the Braden? Aren’t ships supposed to be named after women? His name should be something like Karen or Anibal. So, this start was obviously better than his first, but I’d still avoid in mixed leagues for now.
Patrick Corbin – 5 IP, 3 ER (3 more unearned), 11 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 5.30. I’m legitimately shocked at how awful he continues to be. I thought he’d come out of it at some point.
Bud Norris – Left after a third of an inning with back muscle tightness. His uncle, Chuck, eats back muscles in a Fra Diavolo sauce, extra spicy.
Yasmani Grandal – 3-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 15th homer. I’ve resisted picking my catcher scab for about a month now, and Grandal has rewarded me handsomely. Or maybe I’m handsome for other reasons. I don’t know, you quibbler!
Corey Seager – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 18th homer, hitting .310. 2nd rounder next year? You sure you wanna answer no?
Yasiel Puig – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, hitting .260. It said he played in the box score, but I don’t believe it.
Drew Pomeranz – 5 1/3 IP, 5 ER. Damn, this start even came against a team that would fit right in in (stutterer!) the NL West (the holier-in-their-swings Angels). Pomeranz now has an ERA of 7.53 in the AL. The Stream-o-Nator likes his next start in Safeco, but, I have to be honest, I’d have a hard time owning him.
Dustin Pedroia – 1-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 12th homer, as him and Xander Bogaerts (1-for-5, 14th homer) hit two-out, ninth-inning bombs, sealing the Angels’ fate, and sticking it to their special porpoise.
Tyler Skaggs – 5 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 0.00 thru two starts. Don’t make me get Mr. Robot to hack into your fantasy team to pick up Skaggs for you. By the way, I watch Mr. Robot and enjoy it, but I legitimately have no clue what’s going on.
Huston Street – 2/3 IP, 5 ER. These days Huston Street is like Bourbon Street — completely pedestrian, exposed and stumbling. Yes, I’d own Cam Bedrosian.
Carlos Rodon – 6 1/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 4.67, as he returned from the DL. Picked up right where he left off!
Jose Berrios – Was recalled by the Twins. His major league career thus far (10+ ERA in 15 IP) is no indication at all of how good he can be. What is an indication of that is his 9.7 K/9, 2.44 ERA in 103 1/3 IP in Triple-A this year. At some point, Jose will be Berrios, Berrios good to me. Is now that point? Seems possible, but unlikely.
Brian Dozier – 3-for-4, 3 runs and his 18th and 19th homers, hitting .259. He hit leadoff yesterday, but cleanup on Saturday. It’s a pretty fluid lineup in Minnesota now without Nunez, like an aqueduct in a New York sewer that the city hopes kills the alligators with the feces. This is Snopes-proof!
Justin Verlander – 9 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA down to 3.54. That’s vintage Verlander! Vinlander! Verlage? A 2011 Verlot?
Miguel Cabrera – 3-for-4, 3 runs, 4 RBIs and 22nd and 23rd homers, hitting .303. Maybe his lack of exercise has helped him age gracefully; that’s what I keep telling my Cougar when she asks if I’m gonna sit on the couch all weekend. It works for Miggy, baby!
Justin Upton – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 13th homer, hitting .239. Fun (if you don’t own Upton) with the Player Rater! Upton has been less valuable this year than Yasmany Tomas, who is only owned in 40% of ESPN leagues.
James McCann – 1-for-3, 4 RBIs and his 8th homer, and third homer in the last four games. Hot schmotato alert!
Dallas Keuchel – 5 IP, 7 ER, ERA up to 4.86. I’m guessing Keuchel might wish he didn’t take his agent’s advice by avoiding a longterm deal this past offseason. “You sure I shouldn’t cash in after winning the Cy Young?” “Dallas baby, you’re gonna get so paid after you win two Cy Youngs in a row!” Oopsie.
Michael Pineda – 6 IP, 5 ER, ERA up to 5.13. Some days it’s Pineda, some days it’s piñata. Yesterday, the candy was flowing, and the Rays were getting diabetes.
Brad Miller – 1-for-4 and his 17th homer, hitting over .300 in the last week with homers in the last two games. Facing the Yankees’ starting pitching could ignite any hitter, but Miller hasn’t been bad all year.
Blake Snell – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 8 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.08. This is a combination of gut, confirmation bias and other words I learned in Psych 101, but I get the feeling Snell will take a modest step back next year, then be an ace in 2018. That feels like the path of 95% of starters. 95% is also an off-the-cuff, no-actual-math number.
J.A. Happ – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 3.16. I saw that start, and his ERA, and I was like, “Damn, I’m gonna look at his player page and get blown away like Nicole Eggert in the movie Blown Away, and wonder why I don’t own Happ in every league.” Yeah, that didn’t happen. Last year, his ERA was 3.61, and he had a better year than he’s having now. I’d continue to use the Stream-o-Nator on him. By the way, don’t Google what Nicole Eggert looks like now. Though, when I say that, it likely makes you more prone to. Sorry.
Aaron Sanchez – 7 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 3 Ks. Guys and five girl readers, we’re in August and his ERA is 2.71 with awful matchups all year.
Troy Tulowitzki – Hit his 18th homer, but left the game with a chip fracture of his thumb. Tulo would be the first person to hurt himself while living inside a bubble. Imagine his father was like the crazy dad from The Wolfpack, who didn’t let his kids out in the real world for the first 18 years of their life. The dad would’ve needed an online medical degree from WebMD (an acceptable diploma in Arkansas).
Wade Miley – 7 IP, 1 ER, 2 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 4.98 on Saturday, then traded to the Orioles on Sunday. Miley should fit in perfectly in Baltimore because most of their starters also suck. Find your level, Miley!
Jonathan Schoop – 3-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI, hitting .287 as he hit out of the eight hole. *shakes fist* Showalter!!!
David Dahl – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 2nd homer on Saturday. I told you to buy Dahl in my David Dahl fantasy on Friday. Today, I’m saying, well, I’m saying I told you to buy him. That’s clear, no?
Jose Reyes – Hit the DL with an intercostal strain. What’s crazy is the Mets took on a PR nightmare that was way past his sell-by date all because they’ve run out of ways to try and get Wilmer Flores out of lineup. The same Wilmer Flores who does nothing except produce better than all the scab replacements the Mets have tried to play over him for the last two years. Yes, I’m in the Wilmer Flores Fan Club, which is sponsored by Kleenex.
Asdrubal Cabrera – Out with a strained patella tendon. This should guarantee playing time for Wilmer Flores, but, knowing the Mets, they’ll see if they can bring back Rafael Santana out of retirement.
Neil Walker – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and his 17th homer. Not entirely sure where he went from May thru June, but he’s hitting near-.500 in the last week. Own him before he gets cold again. Or OHBHGCA, as it’s popularly abbreviated.
Felix Hernandez – 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners (5 BBs), 8 Ks, ERA at 3.46. Sad to see a once-great ace totally lose his shizz, but, let’s be bruce, F-Her has lost his shizz.
Robinson Cano – 1-for-6, 2 RBIs and his 23rd homer, hitting .298. Though, I guess F-Her could find his shizz again like Cano. Though, Part II, Another One of Thoughs: Hitters tend to find their shizz again, whereas pitchers just sorta fade.
Nelson Cruz – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 26th homer, hitting .288. He might be the only guy that hits 35 homers this year that at no point gets crazy hot. If he still gets crazy hot at some point, he might hit 40.
Nomar Mazara – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 13th homer. On a related note, I gave up on Gallo in one league. I need players that are going to play every day and, between Mazara, Gallo, Mitch Moreland (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer), I’m not getting that PT I’m so crazy about.
Lucas Harrell – 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners (3 BBs), 2 Ks, ERA down to 3.57. I interrupted my dog, Ted, from listening to J. Cole to get his take on Lucas Harrell, here’s the latest Ted Talks.
Jarrod Dyson – 0-for-2, 1 run and two steals (15, 16). Over the last four years, in less at-bats, Dyson has stolen either the same amount of bases in the 2nd half or more. Cust kayin’.
Billy Burns – Acquired by Royals, but was sent down to the minors. When will he return? That’s the Burns’ing question.
Wade Davis – Hit the DL with a right flexor strain. This was the 2nd time he’s been DL’d this month with an arm issue. Dr. James Andrews must be on a vacation in Monaco, otherwise Davis would’ve had Tommy John surgery already. By the way, I never looked at a picture of Dr. James Andrews before. He looks like Jack Lemmon! Dr. James Andrews’ favorite modified movie quote is, “You can’t always be closing if your elbow tendon is ripped.” Obviously, Kelvin Herrera should be owned for saves.
Two absolutely true statements on August 1 that were absolutely unthinkable on January 1:
1. Trump is the GOP nominee
2. Bryce Harper is killing my roto team
@Abdoozy: Ha, true
ha, clippard goes back home.
anybody confused on how melancon nets just a couple of cost controled RP (one of which is a prospect RP), while chapman nets a pretty large haul. i’m aware that chapman is better,but i mean they are both 1 inning pitcher rentals here. miller at least has time left on contract at good price. his haul i understand (not that i’d give up all that stuff for one inning guy myself), at least relatively.
@For an Armenianless Vacation Come to Akron: Yeah, agreed, no idea
@For an Armenianless Vacation Come to Akron: ridiculous difference between those two prospect hauls. I guess K’s pay and everybody loves someone who can break radar guns. Probably more a real life difference between those two, compared to fantasy baseball where they’re close enough that it wouldn’t take much more to acquire chapman than melancon
@Odor’s Odor-izzi spray: for real life even chapman doesn’t have any kind of high WAR, that’s what 1 inning pitchers are worth, not really that much.
do you think cody allen is droppable in a 12 team keep forever dynasty?
could grab belt off the wire with my #2 waiver?
@Slimbo: Yeah, grab Belt
Bruce Bochy, trolling everybody masterfully: has Bumgarner pinch-hit for Cain after 5 innings; of course, Bumgarner hits a double to right field. Then Bochy has JEFF SAMARDZIJA OF ALL PEOPLE pinch-run for Bumgarner; Shark comes around to score, Giants win.
@Dave: Bochy is an idiot..What if Bum got plunked and is out for the year or if Smard blows out a wheel running the bases..He has bench bats for that..
@Malicious Phenoms:
Bochy is an idiot? and you are …?
@Malicious Phenoms: Some people don’t live life in fear expecting the worst. They’re professional athletes. “What if” they get hurt pitching? Just as likely to happen as any other part of the game. Should they avoid pitching as well?
@Malicious Phenoms: Using the pitchers saves bench bats for later innings, kind of like a long-relief role, but on offense. Bum can rake, Shark can run (former WR).
In an effort to not fall out of the “most-savvy manager” race, Joe Maddon used Travis Wood in LF last night, and then did not bring him back on the mound after putting him in left, which makes no sense. That is the ultimate troll job.
@JashFath:
Pretty sure wood came back to the mound last night
@JashFath: Oops, I forgot about Shark’s days at Notre Dame!
@Malicious Phenoms: i’d be funnier than shit if their ace broke his hand one of those times pinch hitting. esp in playoffs.
@Malicious Phenoms: Yeah, risky using Bum to bat…I really think Bochy just does it as a show of respect/tip of the cap type deal.
@Dave: Ha, yup
Hi Grey. Hope you had a nice weekend and happy trade deadline day!
You and JB were all over Skaggs after that rehab start. Now two solid starts against good offenses. Hope people got on that.
A player we like, whose name rhymes with dope, has endured a brutal stretch the past week or so (1-20), which may have prompted his manager to move him down the order. Let’s hope he gets things back on track.
I do have a SAGNOF bullpen question for you and Smokey but I’ll save it for tomorrow in case Madson gets dealt today, further muddying the waters. So until then–
@JakeTPE: Thanks! You too!
I really can’t recall anything in recent fantasy baseball history that has had quite the precipitous fall in the skillset of an elite, in-their-prime baseball player as Jose Abreu without a single injury to speak of.
Can anyone think of anything comparable?
It was only a couple years ago there was a Grantland article talking about a young Cuban slugger that was mythically, and seemingly hyperbolically, proclaiming that he could be better than Miguel Cabrera. Then he comes Stateside and actually upholds those outrageous claims in his very first year. Hell, we called him the Cuban Frank Thomas on this site.
Now he’s barely replacement level. Brad fucking Miller has 6 more home runs than him.
Truly bizarre.
@muskysmell: Musky!
Have similar issues with Abreu. Just pitiful. I benched him this week in my H2H weekly matchup, moving Myers to 1B and Polanco to the U. (It’s a 10-team league, every team is super stacked). So hopefully this will wake him up and he can stay hot for August/September. I doubt it though.
As to your query, Vernon Wells comes to mind. It was near the end, but still he disappeared rather quickly.
Cheers,
Ante
@muskysmell: 2016 Justin Upton
@muskysmell: I know, it’s mysterious, and painful
@muskysmell: Garrett Atkins, Hank Blalock…
@muskysmell: Could have a nagging injury that he’s playing through. Doesn’t take much to mess up your timing at the plate.
On a related note, 3 of my players this week, Forsythe, Harper, and Bregman combined for 6-65.
Luckily, I had guys like Abreu and Ramos step up with a 9-46 combined line to really “step up” in my time of need.
@muskysmell: Haha
Keeper team!
as Cody Allen will give me Holds , i dropped Blanton
Closers are KJansen, Hwan Oh , Dyson
Holders : HRondon Allen
would you add Skaggs, Berrios over Trevor Bauer, Mc Carthy, HSantiago ?
other Starters are : Archer Salazar Taillon
with Hill and TJWalker on DL
@Nick: Id want both in a keeper league over any of those guys. If i was planning on keeping them. Skaggs should be owned this year regardless
@Bye Felica: What Felicia said…DO IT!
@Nick: Skaggs over Santiago, Berrios over McCarthy if playing for future, for now, I’d hold
Out of it this year. Would you trade an $18 Cargo for a $3 Aaron Sanchez? Next years prices, obviously
@Q: If he is traded from Colorado, I would do it, if not hold.
@Q: Agree with MP, if need to move now before CarGo’s traded, hold
Another great read, you handsome fella!
I was just embarrassed by a guy I should’ve smoked and now I’m fighting for a playoff spot. I have a VERY tough few weeks coming up and am not opposed to shaking things up in my lineup. Anyone you see that I could shop or replace? I can certainly plug holes via the waiver wire. Keep in mind, I’m in a 4 player keeper leauge:
C: sandy Leon
1B: solarte
2B: LeMahieu
3B: manny
SS: Corey seager
2b/SS: E. Nunez
1B/3B: Longo
OF: trout, Harper, Cespedes, ODB, Saunders, Dahl and Hernan Perez
P: deGrom, Fulmer, Velasquez, Steven wright, Darvish, Cole Hamels, DeSclafani, Snell(streamer), rich hill, Betances, dyson and Casilla.
@Mike: Ha, thanks! No idea what your team looks like, surprised if it’s really a 7 OF team…Wright can likely get dropped, but don’t know what’s available either
Archer and Clint Frazier or McCullers? Factoring in the rest of the season (my team is 12-5) and next year if you can’t keep Archer so in year two it’s essentially Frazier for McCullers after this year. Thanks… And even more thanks for helping me to 12-5!
@Wild Thing: Archer
Thanks for sending your approval of my Abreu for Napoli trade, Grey. Your karmatic powers facilitated Nap’s two homers and 5 rbi in his first two games on my team. Cheers!
@Bigfoot’s Dick: Nice!
I’m just happy the Tribe didn’t strike a pose and just sit “Indian style” like you said.. Damn Lucroy though..! Here’s a doozie in an AL Only ROTO League:
Odor and Upton for Pedroia, Pearce, Reddick, Moreland, Herrera, and Pineda
Or Odor and Upton for Xander, Reddick, and Pineda…
My roster has holes as you can reference below.. Let me know if you would still do bottom one more or not!
C- JMcCann
1B- Pujols
2B- Kipnis
3B- Frazier
SS- n/a (lost Nunez)
MI- Odor
OF- Eaton
OF- Betts
OF- JUpton
OF- JDyson
OF- Avisail Garcia
DH- Aoki

P- Stroman
P- Porcello
P- Shoemaker
P- DRobertson
P- CAllen
P- JAHapp
P- Gregerson
BNCH- Kimbrel
@J_Ceol: I’d take Xander in 2nd
@Grey: Even with all the holes? I gotta find a different guy to grab than Reddick meow
Pick 2
Wacha @ Cincy
Porcello @ sea
[email protected] stl
Liriano home Cincy
Leaning porcello and Teheran although not liking it
Also Devon Travis or Dee Gordon
Thanks Grey
@Jimbob: None of them…. Porcello, Teheran…Gordon
Hello Grey,
Who would you rather own long-term in AL-only dynasty: Profar or Bradley Jr?
@Razor Shines: Profar
@Razor Shines: Profar
Which 2 should I start Mazara, Cain, Heyward?
With D-Rob and Ramos as my starters I am considering picking up Betances for depth. I have Cishek on the bench but is Betances worth the add/drop for the ROS?
Thanks.
@Oranje: How the bleep is Betrances a FA in ANY league?
@Malicious Phenoms: Further perplexion, how can he have time to mull it over without worrying about anyone else in the league having picked him up already?
@Cram It: it is baffling.
@Cram It: It is confusing. Would assume only serious FBBallers would be on here but, seems like quite a bit of newbies or free public leaguers.
@Chicken Dinner: Free public leagues should have their own self help group.
@Oranje: Not Heyward… Betances over Cishek
How about that new Interface on Yahoo?

*Based off app reviews
*Yes it’s bad
@Bye Felica: It happens all the time. People should be used to it by now.
The only constant in life is change.
@Bye Felica: TBH, I haven’t noticed anything
@Bye Felica: Though, I use it maybe every few weeks
Morning Grey. Happ. Skaggs. Junior. Gray. Please arrange them in order of preference. Thanks again
@Rusty Arms: that would be Jon Gray
@Rusty Arms: Skaggs, Junior
Every time I see Kelvin Herrera’s name in print I feel the urge to correct the first name to Kelvim. All those years of owning the perennially under-the-radar Kelvim Escobar had their effect on me, I guess. Lord, “Kelvin”, what sense does that name make? Absolute Zero, I’d say.
@Rabbit: HA
@Rabbit: Science! Nice.
Hey Grey. My league counts saves and holds and I’m looking to bolster myself in saves and another team is giving up on saves and looking to strengthen his hold situation. Team in my league initially offered me Cishek for Herrera. With Wade Davis injury I put a hold on dealing Herrera and I don’t have a lot of faith in Cishek with Diaz waiting to take the job. Fortunately this Same team also has Diaz, and also has Watson on pirates who he’s willing to involve in a trade. He seems to like my Rondon but is open to offers. What kind of trade do you suggest? Should i just go for Cishek and Diaz in exchange for two of my holds guys. These are my closers.
Melancon
Madson
Herrera
Rondon
Broxton
Raisel Iglesias
Thornburg
Thanks as always
@G: I’d take Cishek for Madson
@Grey:
But he seems to want a holds guy.. Would you add one of my holds guys along with Madson for Cishek and Diaz
@G: Sorry, I realize now that isn’t great… Cishek, Diaz for Raisel and Rondon?
Weekly set lineup points league:
Which 2 should I start?
Naquin, Baez, Turner, Bregman
Thanks!
@Stu: Sit the 2 guys whose names start with the letter B.
@Stu: There’s more than one Turner
@Grey: ahh so there is, trea turner.
Turner, Naquin
stick with Gattis or pick up Grandal?
@Jeff: I’d go Grandal for now.
@Jeff: Grandal
I started Felix in Wrigley v the Cubs, cause:
1.I have large ones..
2.I need K’s and wins..
Some how they blow a 6-0 lead, with the help of Cishit, who I own, continuing to suck lately.
I go from a win AND a save, to messed up ratios!
I LOATHE CLOSERS!!
@Malicious Phenoms:
Yes. That 9th inning ruined my sleep !
@Malicious Phenoms: Yeah, that sucks
14 team H2H redraft mixed. K/9 is a stat
Would you drop Robbie Ray or Andrew Cashner for Ken Giles?
Thanks!
@Boy Wonder: Is Ken Giles going to be the closer again?
@Paul: he’s not but who knows. Giles has been nasty since May 1 while Harris has been shaky lately
@Boy Wonder: Cashner
NYPD Blue Quote of the day :
Det. Andy Sipowicz: Neera Muh – Muka – Yanno, you’d think when these people migrate, they’d take pronounceable names.
Det. Bobby Simone: Like “Sipowicz”?
@JoeG414: Nice
@JoeG414: HA
Good morning, Grey
Big trade in my limited keeper. 12-team H2H OBP where I’m in it to win it. My current SP are: Kershaw, Aaron Sanchez, Hendricks, DeSclafani, Z.Davies, Nola, Shields and Iwakuma.
I think I still need SP bc I’m positive Iwakuma and Shields (maybe even Nola, whom I just traded for), will be in the pool soon.
I’ve been offered: Rizzo, Machado, Scherzer, Carrasco (16th)
For
Arenado (8th) and Springer (16th)
If a player has number next to his name, that’s his 2017 keeper round. If he doesn’t, means he cannot be kept. As is obvious, I’m giving up some elite keeper value in order to go for it this year. What do you think?
I’m currently in first place with a good offense, so it’s not like I’m scratching to make the playoffs. I just have legitimate concerns about my SP
@The JoGarza: If you want to win this year, than take that trade, you are getting what you need in the two SP’s.
@The JoGarza: Take it to win
Need pitching help
My staff is currently Lester, Maeda, Guerra, Hellickson, Kazmir, Snell, Shields, Nola, and Severino (i’m hoping he becomes a starter again), with relievers Dyson, Chapman, and Casilla
Guys on waivers that I can add Mchugh, ventura, Fiers, Cashner, Paxton, Dickey, E. Santana, De Leon ( i bet they trade for someone), A. Bradley, C. Rodon, P. Corbin, J. Garcia, S. Miller, D. Smyly, AJ Griffin
is Colby Lewis also worth a DL stash I currently have no one on mine?
Any possible add drops with these players?
@Paul: Forget Colby…. Shields, Nola, Severino are streamers…. Everyone on waivers is streamers…I’d look at matchups
I was offered Cain for my Villar. Pull the trigger?
@HeMan: Who’d be your SS?
@Chicken Dinner: it’d be segura
@HeMan: Hold
@Grey: thanks
No problem
Great article!
I am in 3rd place in a yahoo H2H 5×5 league and am looking to tighten up for the final push. I have had Justin Upton all season…time to cut? Options that would help my team are backups like Grandal behind the plate (I have Contreras only) or Maybe Gyorko for Utility and to back up Rizzo (only 1B player on my team) Valencia is out there as well. What are your thoughts? THANKS!
I LOVE the smell of mustache wax in the morning!
@Just Busted: Thanks! I’d hold
Hey Grey. who do you like better in a dynasty league: Gallo or Urias? Thanks as always!
@Adam: Urias
I’m surprised you didn’t add Sean Manaea to your Friday buys. He’s a guy capable of big ks and has decent command. At this point in the season I think you could do worse off the free agent list. Think there’s decent upside with manaea.
@the swinging: I think he’s a home streamer only
Great stuff as usual. I come into work in the morning grab a coffee in the cafe, sit at my desk and this is the first site I pull up! With that said I could use some help in the pitching department. I do have the lead in save category by a healthy 20 points (Colome, K-Rod, Dyson, and I picked up Bettances) so I am thinking I can wheel and deal a few of these guys since the rest of my 10 man league are all in the mix in this category and trading points daily. was in first for majority of the season now I am slowly dipping down.
I need HR/RBI/W/K, Rest of my lineup looks like Leon, Rizzo, Altuve, Donaldson, Nunez, Beltran, Cespedes, Blackmon, Baez, Polanco, JDMartinez
Thor, Cueto, Gray, Duffy, archer, Pineda, Taillon, Santiago and of course closers I listed above. What do ya think?
@Syn: Thanks! Trade K-Rod and Dyson if you can for a better/different SS
@Syn: Can throw Nunez in a trade with the closers too
Thanks for the advice. Shooting for Seager but also looking at Villar. Both owners need Saves. I’d prefer Seager, is Villar really that big of an upgrade at SS?
They’re pretty close
Thanks so I can def do nunez/krod/dyson for seager. Do you think I am giving up to much with Nunez in the deal, especially with his SB? I am 2nd in SB (2 sb away from first) but have some guys coming up on me. He would prob do the deal with just those two closers for Seager. I’d have to clear a spot for JD if he ever comes off the DL anyways though. Thx for all the insight,
Nope
12team H2H 6×6 OPS, QS. 3 OF, 2 Util.
Realmuto, Votto, Dozier, Frazier, C. Seager, Trout, Marte, Desmond, Pujols, Turner
Bench: Herrera
Syndergaard, Fulmer, Matz, Velasquez, DeSclafani, Taillon
Cishek, Colome, Gomez, Maurer, Watson
Should I drop my bench bat Herrera for either S. Manaea, Skaggs or Straily?
Should I drop a closer for a SP?
@TOGMAN: Skaggs
h2h 12 team league (currently in back of pack)
Should i deal
Trumbo, Kluber and Salazar
for
Correa, Springer and Tanaka
Current Roster:
C- d’Arnaud
1B- Rizzo
2B- Schoop
SS- Anderson
3B- Seager
OF- Marte, Trumbo, Bradley Jr
UTIL- Franco, Bregman
BN- Heyward
SP- Cueto, Tanaka, Salazar, Kluber, Matz, McCullers, DeScalafani, Rodon
RP- Street, Maurer, Boxberger, Giles
@chad: Sure
I have an owner in my league that does that to me all of the time ( sends me messages asking me to figure out trades) ” Hey what do you want for Verlander? What do you want for both Verlander and Colome?” Sometimes he will throw in a random statement like “Keep in mind I only need Colome until Kimbrel comes off of the DL” which means don’t ask for any of my better players
We should have a glossary term for someone that tries to initiate trades but is too lazy to take the time to make a decent trade offer
@KarlJ: So annoying! Be surprised how often you get this in these ‘pert leagues…
@KarlJ: I don’t mind the “What do you want for…?” questions as long as it’s part of an actual trade offer. It lets you know who they want. Otherwise the inquirer might get a counter offer NOT including the player he actually wants.
Great read, thanks. Need 2 of 3 this week, who would you sit between JUpton (vs Sale, Thor, DeGrom) Franco (vs Cueto, Bumgarner and SD) or DPeralta (vs Strasberg, Sherzer, Brewers)?
@Huddy: Thanks! Upton
Contreras or Grandal (sorry to drop a catcher question on ya)?
@datdudebp: Nice, same question here. Have had Contreras since his call up but made the switch last night and added Grandal.
@datdudebp: Grandal
“Tyler Naquin – 2-for-3, 2 runs, hitting .335, hitting near-.450 in the last week. The power has come down, but he’s still one of the hottest bats in the game. “Hottest bats in the game” is a phrase you never want to hear outside of a baseball context.”
What about Bat Girl? Or cooked bat? It could be a delicacy somewhere.
@CMUTimmah: HA
Myers, Norris, Solarte, Ramirez, Mauer, Edwin Jackson! Yes there’s a few Padres fans around, hoping they will be the 2020 version of the Cubs.
@Robert: Yeah, just not with any of those guys
Drop schimpf for grichuk, Moreland, Genett, Adonis, Espinosa, Vargas, cozart, Margot
Or hold until everything clears up a little bit
@Giolito: Moreland, but could change after a trade
@Grey: what now with Beltran coming to Rangers?
What?
@Grey: still Moreland?
Yes
Start Paxton vs Boston?
@Giolito: I am………Due to two starts this week. I’ll be sending the positive vibe with you if you do.
@Giolito: at home? Sure
@Grey: he has no one going today and I have Salazar today and price, carrasco, darvish tomorrow
Smart to sit Paxton and Duffy today In a leave that counts losses and homers given up?
I’d start Duffy
wsup Grey,
10team h2h 6×5
please pick one. Gattis, Martin, Grandal
thank u very much!
@740: Grandal
Dull, Feliz, Barrett, or Giles?
I am looking for the best option for saves, but not at the expense of K’s, ERA and WHIP. Who is the best option for counting stats and then to add saves?
I currently have Giles and am enjoying his stats since late June, but I would like to add someone with more value.
@Will: or Thornburg
@Will: Giles counting stats, Feliz possible saves
pitching killing me still grey
drop rodon and mchugh for 2 of bundy, davies, smyly?
@peacecoast: Bundy, Davies
@peacecoast: Agree with CD
I got an empty slot. Would you add Tomas, H.Perez, or Dickerson to fill it? Normally I’d pass on Hernan but I might be in need of a SAGNOF.
Also, are Pineda or DeLeon still worth rostering?
12-team h2h 5×5 redraft
C – Ramos, 1B – Abreu, 2B – Odor, 3B – Frazier, SS – Machado, OF – Kepler, Polanco, Pence, DH – Morales, Bench – Bregman, JD Martinez (DL)
SP – Carrasco, Price, Gray, Shoemaker, McCarthy, Pineda, De Leon
RP – Chapman, Cishek, Estevez, Watson
@Joe: Hernan…. Forget those SPs
what did I do to piss off our friend Mr. Streamanator? I had the red hot Ervin in my streaming queue ready to pick up v CWS cuz they can’t hit, it is a home game (Grey’s adage) and he going against Rodon. The trifecta is staring me in the eye!
I do a quick confirmation on Stream and it is like Meh. But he loves him some Pineda! On the road, up and down season and, his team is blah…..what do I do? Well, I lose wins and losses by one in our H2H league cuz I went with the human piñata. I look in he mirror and chant: use your flippin’ common sense!
And finally, Mr. Robot was terrific in its first year. I was so looking forward to season two….about to drop it and check the waiver wire.
@Johnc: Sorry it didn’t work yesterday
@Grey:
No worries. Not even bots are perfect. And in the end,we all own our decisions. Just fun to type it all out LOL
Ha

Dahl 10-27 with 2 HRs, and has yet to play in Coors.
@Funny Name: I know!
What is the general Razz-community consensus on Steven Wright? We’ve played a month of summer baseball and his numbers have gotten worse as would be expected for a knuckleballer in the heat.
Will we see a stabilization of his stats? Or are we at the precipice?
@Matty: I’d lose him
What’s good Grey? Hope you had a good weekend. The trading deadline is also coming up in my 10-team, H2H, keeper league and I’m selling off some pieces. I have Polanco, Naquin, and Mazara in my OF and need to keep one and throw another into a deal, so two-part question: (1) which outfielder would you want to keep for the future, (2) which outfielder would be most attractive to an opposing owner THIS year, and if it’s the same player for both of the aforementioned questions how would you rank them as far as production in the future. Many thanks.
@Slimcompoop: 1. Polanco 2. Polanco, Mazara
Semein or Bergman ?
This week only
@Mike: Semien
Hey grey im only asking becase last year you waited too long to write about football rankings. My draft is soon should I sign antonio brown to 1 year 44$ or 2 years 53$, or 3 58$. Also jeremy hill for 1 year 6$ or 2years15$ or 3 years 20$, or longer just add 5$. Now Todd gurley 27$ for one year im not able to sign him to contract yetnot until next season. Should I keep those three or brandon marshall 31$, michael floyd 17$, devante parker 6$. I can only keep three. Who should I keep and for how long. So far Im going with antonio brown for two years, jeremy hill for 3 years, and gurly until I can sign him longterm. Im skeptical on hill I may just keep marshall or floyd. This is a 16 team league in which I own brown for a cheaper price then other top five recievers in my league. I got brown 3 years ago and its a steal in my league to own him for even 50$. He will go for 60$ if I let him go. Maybe more , likely people would pay more. Please help me out. Should I keep hill, marshall, or floyd. I can keep andrew luck as alternative also for 37$ 1 year or sign him longterm.
@ganggreenn: both julio jones and demariius thomas are owned for 65$. I was wrong about beckham jr. He is owned for 3$. Somehow.
Hey Grey. In my 10 team H2H (tracking QS and W), I have doubled my closers (2–>4) thanks to this weekend’s trading and now have Familia, Oh, Herrera, and Watson. I usually only like to keep 3 around at most in this format and use my other spots for SP / streaming. In light of this, what do you think of the below offers where I ditch a closer and get a better SP?
1. His Carrasco (and J. Gomez, who I would try to shop around) for my Grienke and Familia
2. His Carrasco for my Greinke and Watson
3. His Kluber for my Grienke and Familia
Thanks.
@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: Take any of these… 2, 1, 3, that order
@Grey: Thanks!
No problem
Contreras or Russell Martin?
Bench bat who do you like best Bregman or Pence?
thanks man
@ryanoger: Willson…Bregman
I’m in a 14 team H2H keep 6 league and was offered a trade.
Hitters – R HR RBI NSB OBP SLG
Pitchers – QS SV HLD ERA WHIP K9
I get:
Stanton
Solarte
Felix Hernandez
Kenley Jason
I give:
Harper
Lamb
I’m thinking the answer is no way in hell, right?
This year is a lost and my 6 keeper candidates would be from this group:
Harper
Lamb
Willson Contreras
Mazara
Dahl
Bregman
Beltre
Joc
Moncada
Gallo
Hosmer
I really don’t have pitchers to keep (highest rated are David Phelps, Wade Davis, Tyler Skaggs, Addison Reed and have De Leon and Alex Reyes stashed) but, in this format, it can be cheated if I punt QS. Or, I can do the trade and have Felix and Jansen for next year.
@ashtray: Hold
In first place trying to sure up my squad for the playoffs in a H2H points league. Please pick top 3 from the list below that you would confidently ride into the playoffs with.
Shoemaker, Matz, Skaggs, Duffy, Davies, Snell, Graveman, Gray, Nova, Ray, Conley
Thanks!
@Rondo: Shoemaker, Skaggs, Duffy
James McCann – Sure the recent HR surge is nice… and his profile shows eventually he will be a league average hitting catcher with 15-20 HRs…
BUT watch this guy throw out baserunners! Holy crap does he have quick hands and a McCannon behind the dish. Threw out Springer from his knees yesterday with Springer having a pretty good jump on him.
I know, I’m a level beyond “Fantasay baseball nerd.” I’m basically a full-on baseball dorknerd.
@CMUTimmah: Haha, yeah, I saw some replays of him
12 team weekly 5×5. leading in HR and rbi. not so much in pitching. schoop for bum? would be replacing schhops bat with j-up.
@L-Boogie: Absolutely
@L-Boogie: Sure
Yo, BB.
How you doin, bud?
@Phil of the Future: I’m good, loving The Night Of on HBO, you watch?
@Grey: You caught up yet?
Yeah, last night’s was so good… I love this show
@Grey: Nice. Yeah it’s pretty awesome. Reminds me that if I ever ended up in prison, I would kill myself.
I’d help the inmates with their fantasy teams, wait, I already do that!
@Grey: Their fantasy team may not be what you think.
Haha
@Grey: I have it queued up, haven’t started it. I guess now i’ll have to give it a watch
You should!
@Grey: I will!
Thank you for your friendship
Grey
Who do you like better ROS for MI in a 14 team 5×5, Bregman or Tim Anderson? Thanks!
@hankp: Bregman
Good Morning Grey! As usual, awesome start to the week!!
I ended up using my waiver pick for Nunez. I’m sure that most everyone in my league knew I was going to use it and I almost didn’t put a claim in for him to see if I could still get him at 1:30am this morning. If I didn’t get him I would have just ended up adding Flores. However, I really could use the steals and top of the order run production. It took me TWO YEARS!! to get to the #3 spot, so Nunez better bring me home the regular season (50% of the $$). AND… I’ve been holding onto Pollock on my bench (no DL spot in our league), so he better bring me home the tourney (last 3 weeks of season and 20% of the $).
Here’s my new lineup. I’m ready to take home another title.
NL-Only H2H OBP
CA Castillo
1B GOLDY
2B LeMahieu
3B Franco
SS Villar
INF Gennett
OF Ozuna, Piscotty, Duvall, Blash
Util Nunez
B Pollock
SP Arrieta, Cole, Hendricks, Velasquez, Gray, McCarthy, Eickhoff, Ray
RP J.J. , Barrett, Feliz
A) I ended up dropping Owings for Blash because of his power upside and the Padres are going to give him an extended look in the OF with consistent PT. Was looking at Keon, but 3 Brewers??? C’Mon. Actually, I may give Broxton a look if the Blash Experiment blows up.
B) I had to drop either Gennett or Adams for Nunez. No way I’m dropping my Scooter.
C) I won 7-3 and the 1st place team went 3-7 and now I’m in first by 0.5 games. I would have beat him 8-2. I hate how that works. He’s due for a good week and I am doomed to a week of mediocrity or worse.
Keep up the GreyT work!!
@Pugs & Slugs: A. Gotcha B. Yeah C. Nice!
Now that Barrett is the official closer, do you think Yahoo will change his photo? I’m not who the picture is, but I do know that Jake Barrett isn’t a Dominican looking dude.
@Teddy Heater: HA… Maybe a tanning bed mishap prior to the Yahoo pic?
@Grey: The Night Of…….. Nice and slow burn, it always goes so fast, I’m like, that’s it? A lot like Bloodline as far as the pace. Getting ready to watch Mr Robot soon, Jimbo’s son swears by it and he sold me on it during golf this weekend.
Yeah, Mr. Robot is solid, watchable, it’s also confusing as hell and I’m not sure I understand half of it…. The Night Of is excellent and clear
@Teddy Heater: I noticed that too when I picked him up in Yahoo a couple of weeks ago. I was like, I thought he was white, am I getting the right guy?
@Cram It: I did the same thing, I was like, hold on that’s not the right dude. Checked the name and team and rolled with it.
Haha
Hey Grey,
God knows Goldschmidt, Correa, Rizzo and Machado have been good to me this year and deserve a night off–but did they all have to take the same night off? They went 1 for 19 last night. Sheesh!
If the Reds’ rumored Cozart and Bruce trades go down–or even if one of them do–Peraza’s probably a lock for 20 SBs down the stretch, no?
Thanks!
@Grassy Knoll Redding: Yup
Happy Monday Grey and Razzballers!
12 team H2H 6X6 (QS)… No Holds
RP: Allen (Boo!!!) / Dyson / Gomez / Ramos
Available on wire: Maurer/ Bedrosoian / Giles / Johnson / Kintzler
Team has been good on saves all season
1) Drop Allen for an available RP? If so, who?
2) Drop Allen for Streaming spot or bench bat?
@Sandlot Bully: 1. Johnson
Bench upton this week for Devon Travis? Utility spot.
Detroit facing sale, Quintana , Thor, and degrom
@Jimbob: Sure
Hold out hope Dickerson isn’t seriously injured after that ridiculous collision or drop for Benintendi and his playoff run upside?
Also, hold Nate Jones or Bendrosian for speculative saves (banking on Robertson being moved)
Thanks!
@Steve: I think he is injured, but Benintendi? Bedrosian
Recently added Dahl, flipped Pomeranz and RP Watson for Price(have Kimbrel returning today and hope Price out performs Pomeranz in the AL beast), thoughts on that trade?
And finally I was lucky enough to add Dahl and Bregman. Would you be looking to hold both or flip them for a stud SP or stud SS? My concerns are: Will Dahl play everyday once Parra retuens? And should I be concerned Bregmans not hitting with Gurriel’s call up looming in a few weeks? Roster is below:
ESPN 12 team HTH 5×5 with OBP and QS daily moves and 4 keepers per season
C Posey
1B Cabrera
2B Daniel Murphy
3B Seager
SS A. Russell
OF Trout
OF Bruce
OF Polanco
UTIL SS Bregman
UTIL 2B/SS/3B Baez
Bench OF/3B/DH Sano
Bench OF Dahl
DL OF Choo
SP Salazar
SP Shoemaker
RP Jansen
RP Melancon
P Price
P Pineda
P DeSclafani
P Snell
Bench SP Manaea
Bench SP Skaggs
Bench RP(DL)Kimbrel
@My Thread Count Is High: Nice trade! I’d trade Bregman of the two, but coudl see moving either if I got a good enough price, not like they’re keepers there
@Grey: Yeah we can only keep 4 players per year and they are kept at the round drafted value for a max of 3 years. I had a guy offer me Cutch(whos had a down year and I wouldnt keep him because Trout is my 1st rd keeper) and Segura, IF I moved Bregman would you be looking for O or another arm for this roster. The same guy only has Walker, Eickhoff, Moore and SP’s of that ilk but would package them with Segura. Thanks in advance for the knowledge.
Don’t love it
@Grey: Yeah kinda how I felt about it…
Give Bundy a shot tomorrow at home vs Tex ? Could use the Win and K’s .
@JoeG414: Sure
Your write ups kill me GreyLord. I watch mr robot as well and have no friggin clue who Elliot even is.
Anyways who do u value more rest of season
1) Cueto or Arrieta
2)Just Dong or Braun
It’s the kind of show that couldn’t even be spoiled, b/c I’d have no idea what you were talking about… I barely understand the recaps of a show I just watched… Arrieta…Dong
Grey,
Are you dropping Pomeranz for any of these guys:
Lackey, Matz, Guerra or stream the last spot?
This is my last starter spot in a 10 team roto league with save/holds instead of saves. Rest of my pitching staff is:
SP: Strasburg, Salazar, Duffy, McCullers, Darvish
RP: Ramos, Osuna, Casilla, Reed, Oh, Herrera
Thanks, homie!
Stream
@Grey: Thanks, Grey. Much appreciated.
No problem
Skaggs is on the wire would you drop Paxton or Matz to pickup? Or should I drop one of my closers Casilla or Colome
Pax
Which prospect do you suggest I add in a 10 team dynasty league?
Renfroe, Winker, Mateo, Vogelbach, Adames, Jimenez, Rosario, Fisher
Looking for highest upside.
Winker
I have a feeling Royce! will be coming by to name four Padres
Someone did above
@Grey: okay good for them but royce is our friend and he lives…oh never mind.
@J-FOH: Buchter, Quackenbush, Maurer, and Hand!
Haha
I would normally have J-Up in my UTL spot (can’t wait for JD to come back), but as we’ve seen from multiple comments above he has a tough week in front of him.
Would you start:
Bregman – 7 home games (4 vs Tor and 3 vs Tex)
or
Mazara – 6 road games (3 @ Bal and 3 @ Hou)
Maz
guys like Naquin, Mazara and Skaggs on the wire. Make any changes to grab them or hold? in a standard roto. Need R/AVG/W
C: Rupp
1B: edwin
2B: trea
3b: Frazier
SS: Seager
OF: Betts, Giancarlo, Khris Davis
UTIL: Villar, Duvall
BN: Baez, J Turner, Franco
SP: Price, Salazar, Hendricks, Talion, Shoemaker, Fulmer
RP: Ramos, Colome, Estevez, Madson
Skaggs over Turner
Hey Grey –
How would you rank the following ROS?:
Bauer, Berrios, Skaggs, Bradley, Taillon
Thanks,
Jeff
Skaggs, Bauer, Taillon
Oh great Grey,
I can only start one this week:
Gio Gonzo at home vs. SF
Tallion @ Atl
Gio
Do you think Jake Barrett runs away from with 9th inning in Arizona? Do you see Gomez being moved at the deadline, opening the door for Neris?
I was a Papelbon, Allen, and Rondon owner… brutal.
No on Gomez…Yes on Barrett
Would u drop will Harris to pick up Herrera (KC)
Thanks
Nope
Need a catcher
GRandal,Gattis,Castillo ROS??
Thanks
Grandal
So it turns out Matt Wieters sucks. In a 12 team redraft league are there any other catchers you think are available that I should target? Maybe some prospects that are getting called up soon? Thanks in advance
Yeah, probably
@Grey:
THANKS!
No problem
Looks like Musgrove will get the start tonight vs. Toronto. Not sure I’m streaming him there.
Bruce looks headed to the Mets, Nimmo going the other way.
Nice trade by Reds
@Grey: Jesse Winker time?
I doubt it, but maybe
@The JoGarza: ore like Scott Schebler. Winker has been the ghost of Carney Lansford this year NO POWER!!!
Rich Hill and Josh Reddick to the Dodgers for Jharel Cotton.
@Ralph LIfshitz: Hearing more prospects headed the A’s way. Report is Cotton isn’t headliner…..hmmmmm
@Ralph LIfshitz: Just heard it’s Grant Holmes, Jharel Cotton, and Frankie Montas. Serious pay for some rentals.
Beane robs you in plain sight
@Grey: because as we all know all pitching prospects pan out
Yeah totally
@Ralph LIfshitz: I’ve been hearing that all day for the Mets. As a fan, I’d take that.
Grey – Catcher Scab time. Is it time to pick it?
Gattis or Grandal? Points league
Grandal
Grey, got to get rid of one via a trade in a 12-team H2H OBP.
Braun, Cespedes or Belt?
Belt
I could handle the disgruntled commenter attacking you for your jokes about the Cleveland Indians, but I’ll be damned if I sit by and let someone besmirch the apotheoses of bland, overpriced, bar fare Applebee’s!
HA
Would u drop piscotty to pick up H Perez ( milw) ?
Nope
@Grey: weekly roto. story has 6 home games this week, but a gimpy thumb and not sure if he will be able to play or not. cross my fingers and start him or bench for tim anderson?
thanks.
Start Story
Better for holds romo or Cody Allen?
Allen
Apparently the White Sox are in for Puig, wanting to add to their collection of disappointing Cuban players.
Haha
If Winker gets called up, him or Bregman for a bench bat?
Bregman
Hey, Grey. McCarthy, Matt Moore, Pom, and Skaggs. Which two do you like for the ros? Thanks!
Skaggs, McCarthy

Wow the Grey the fantasy gods were messing with me last night! Not sure if you remember but I was down by 3 points heading into the Mariners – Cubs game and I only had Kyle Seager left and my opponent had Bryant, Cruz, and Cishek. Cruz starts off with a 2-run shot of course while Seager ends up getting hit by a pitch (no points for that) so of course I knew it wasn’t my night… I was fortunate Bryant had a quiet night and hours go by and I’m still down by 10 and then Cishek comes in and gives up 3 runs, blows the save, and I was only down by 5 points! All I needed was one more run you Cubbies! Why didn’t the Cubs bring in Lester in the bottom of the 9th to walk off a WIN for me!? Ha it was torture man! Not sure if you care but figured I’d share my story …
Anyways, last night you helped me pick out the following 11 starts marked with an asterisk this week but I’m not sure if I should replace one of those starts with Eickhoff’s next start @SD now that he was dropped this morning? I don’t want to be a jerkoff again seeing how I had an opportunity to start him yesterday but didn’t and of course lost my matchup in the end… SO should I stick with these 11 or make some changes?
8/1

Stick, you can add Eickhoff if you need another start on Sunday
@Grey: Huh? Eickhoff is lined up to start on Saturday the 6th, is he not? Sunday is August 7th and I was trying to use 11 before Sunday so I can stream as many as needed on Sunday if needed? So if I was going to start Eickhoff there, I’d have to not start one of the originally picked starters above.
Gotcha, forget Paxton then and go Eickhoff
@Grey: Word, okay thanks! Yeah Paxton vs. my Sox had me a little nervous anyway and my opponent has Mookie and Xander so with my luck that would have backfired real quick.
This gives me the chance to use a batty call today so who will it be?

Hey Grey. One more. Would you trade two of Chris Davis, wil Meyers, Polanco for Rizzo? If so which 2?
Nope
1. Would you add K. Herrera over Betances or T. Watson, or hold?
2. 12 tm H2H 6×6 OBP w/ hitter Ks and L as extra cats, drop Baez (bench bat, 2B/3B/SS eligible) for K. Herrera, who would be my 5th closer (not necessary for SV, but helpful for ratios and Ks while taking fewer L than a SP)? Other drop options are Naquin and J-Up, who occupy my last OF slot and 2nd bench bat.
1. Hold 2. Sure, Baez
Dahl looks good. Would need to drop one of: Pence Belt Travis T.Turner J.Upton K.Davis
Worth it? Which one? Could also drop Nate Jones as am 1st in saves.
Jones…
Limited moves (20/yr, I have 8 left) H2H, I need to make up a little ground to make the playoffs, so ready to make some long-overdue drops.
1. Bench IF (useful to cover for injuries and poor performance without using a move), drop Espinosa (1B/2B/SS/3B eligible) for: Schimpf (2B/3B), Flores (1B/2B/3B/SS), Baez (2B/3B/SS), B. Miller (2B/SS/LF/CF) or T. Turner (2B only, may get CF), or hold? Without Espi, I still have at least 2 guys with eligibility everywhere but 2B (A. Russell) and C (Gattis), so Turner’s limited eligibility isn’t as much of a problem.
2. Pick 2 SP, L count: Pineda, Stroman, E. Santana, McCarthy, Santiago, Skaggs, Conley, J. Gray. ROS Player Rater says Pineda by a landslide and then Stroman.
1. Turner 2. McCarthy, Skaggs
Wondering how you see Clint Frazier playing out in NY.. value go up a tick playing in the AL East? Think he turns into a 20/20 guy with decent average? More/less?
Looks like a 25/15 guy who is at least a year away from impact
Love it when the contestant and “celebrity” are in tune on a game show. The answer is Seattle; the contestant gives the clue, “capital of Washington.” And the celebrity immediately says, “Seattle.”
Tacoma!
@Grey: Toyota!
Think that’s further east
Sitting Berrios tonight? I have Salazar in that game too. Thoughts on Rich Hill to the Dodgers?
I wouldn’t start him
Grey, drop Cody Allen for K Herrera?
Sure
Hi Grey, I am in an NL-only league that also includes the Indians, so the biggest new names on waivers are Andrew Miller, Josh Reddick, and Rich Hill. I have the #1 waiver pick, so I kind of have to pick one of the three. Which one would you prefer?
Reddick would probably push Heyward or Dahl to the bench (my current bench is Harrison and Dietrich). For pitchers, we start 7, and at least one must be a reliever. I have:
SP: Kluber, Hendricks, Jaime Garcia, Wainwright, DeSclafani, Samardzija, Joe Ross
RP: Jeffress, Estevez, Maurer, Barrett, Will Smith
I don’t have a glaring hole at any of these positions, so it is a bit hard to pick.
Thanks so much for the advice
Wow you don’t need any of them… I’d go Hill
@Grey: Thanks Grey–I just realized I forgot to mention it is a H2H (points) league. Does that change anything?
Also, by the way, do you think Miller will be closing in Cleveland? I think Francona said he and Allen would be used interchangeably but I wonder if that will really happen.
And sorry one more question–if Jeffress is traded today, which reliever would you start this week? I have to start at least one of them. Thanks a lot
Nothing’s changed since I wrote the post you’re commenting on
With Allen out as closer
Who do you feel has the best chance of closing this year and next and would you drop him for any of the following
Ottavino, Dull or Diaz
Thanks and 100% agree if a guy approaches you to make a trade then its on him to make an offer
first
Diaz
Would E. Santana get fantasy relevant if he were traded to the blue jays or another team?
Nope
Jay Mother Fuckin Bruce…. god
Ha
@Grey: Better you guys than LAD. Phew!!!
Haha
What’s happened to Reddick’s value due to the trade?
Nothing
belt or reddick for ROS?
Reddick
I’m actually pretty psyched on what the Padres management have been doing lately. I think they made a bunch of huge mistakes prior to the 2015 season, but at least they are willing to accept that and move on, saving like $25 million in the process of trading Kemp and freeing up space for players who project to be much more valuable.
They also seem to have come out ahead with the Kimbrel situation. As it stands now, they turned Quentin, Wisler, Maybin, Jordan Paroubeck and a draft pick into Manuel Margot, Javier Guerra, Carlos Asuaje, Logan Allen, and Hensel Rodriguez.
The Pomeranz trades could end up being even better, with them losing Alonso and The RZE for Anderson Espinoza and Jose Torres, who has been looking good at AAA (.73 ERA).
And the jury is still out on the Wil Myers trade, but its definitely not a loser trade, yet.
But more to your point, no team in their right mind would have given up anything for Kemp. His bat doesn’t make up for his terrible defense. Seems like a nice guy, though! I wish him all the luck!
I think they could’ve gotten someone they didn’t immediately DFA, but I could be wrong
@Grey: totally agree. Coukd of shipped to AL to DH where he belongs
@J-FOH: His OBP is under .300! I don’t think the Padres could have convinced any AL team to give up a warm body for that without also committing to pay all the $ owed him.
Is Jon Gray a hold in a redraft or a sell high before he takes his two starts in Coors this week? I’m thinking the answer is a qualified “yes” but only if it leads to an upgrade.
(The rest of my rotation is a little shabby. I got Price, Carrasco, McCarthy, Shoemaker, Gray, plus a couple of empty slots after dropping Pineda and De Leon. If I went to the wire, the only pitchers of note are not that exciting. Berrios, Eovaldi, J-Zim, M.Gonzalez, and Homer Bailey.)
@Joe: I guess Stroman is out there too but he looks like Pineda lite. One good outing and then KABLAM.
@Joe: I actually traded Gray and Carlos Estevez for C-Mart yesterday if that helps you at all.
Yes
If Jim Johnson gets traded, who would you cut out of the following if you had to:
Mauricio, Ottavino (I have Estevez) or Boxberger
Need to take Cain off the DL
Thanks!
@JimmyJackJames: probably boxy
Box
@Grey: Thanks guys – with Johnson not getting dealt, thinking Mauricio is the drop here – agree?
Yes
@Grey: Thanks Grey, keep up the good work bro – razz is awesome
No problem
this is one hella boring trade deadline, the bigger ones having happened before. and thank god TEX isn’t moving gallo for lucroy. still just over 1.5 hours left though.
Yeah
Nicasio a closer option you think?
No
In a 3 way battle for Saves in a 6×6 daily roto .
A little worried about Cishek getting Save chances the rest of the way. And watching my innings limit .
Looking to deal for Herrera , sending B.McCarthy.
My other SP are : Salazar , Arrieta, Happ ,DeSclafani, Roark, Danny Duffy, Quintana, Skaggs. and Bundy as an extra.
Whata think ?
Sounds fine
Drop Wellington Castillo for Grandal? Duh? Wellington started great but has been awful as of late.
Sure
If you can only roster one RP Betance or Miller? Points league, 5 points for saves, zero for holds.
I know lame rules
Flip a coin…Miller
A few questions before I head to n.y.c. and then Cape Cod (and go to Fenway).
Do you think Cole doubles this week ? If so, please rank Cole/Salazar/Shoemaker/Hendricks this week, assuming you think Hendricks doubles.
Also ROS, Dahl v. Kepler ?
Thanks Grey.
Have fun! I don’t know their starts…. That rank looks fine…Dahl
I can’t remember how long ago, but at some point you wrote that you could see Villar never being fantasy relevant again after this year. Sorry if I am misquoting you, but it was something along those lines I think. Do you still feel that way, or has he grown on you for future fantasy use?
I still feel that way
@Grey: Is Baez a better keeper in your mind then? Or is he seriously limited due to being in a stacked lineup that will unlikely allow him to hit in the 3 or 4 hole?
Baez is not going to hit 3 or 4 in the Cubs lineup unless six guys are injured
@Grey: I agree. That was the point I was trying to get at. Their lineup is obviously stacked. Is that such a strain to his fantasy value that Villar would prove a better keeper? Sorry, I should have been more clear with my question.
Sure, Villar
@Raoul Duke: if his BB rate, slashed K rate are for real though he’d very likely still be useful, i’m betting the hesitancy was about whether those things stick. he always had that speed, just could never get on base, even enough to get at bats. of course speed is the first skill to go die, he could lose that, but i doubt it happens in one year.
goodnight that’s a massive overpay for the white will smith. these deals are in kinda way commensurate with each other. STL got z.duke (nearly the same pitcher these days as will smith) for a 4th OF at most. it’s simply about some teams just being silly.
@And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers!: ok, smith has 3 years of arb, vs zack duke and his 2017 contract with i believe one year or arb. that one year is worth a big time catcher name and a possibly pretty good SP too?
Yeah, agreed… Kemp gets nothing, Will Smith gets a prospect and catcher
hokey smokes, if forsythe gets flipped to LAD i’d almost certainly be able to obtain odor in a dynasty. root root root for it!
Ha
would you trade Scherzer for Betts
Keeper league Betts would cost $31 to keep next year
Scherzer would not be kept. He woul dbe too expensive
I am looking for next year The other team needs pitching
Is it fair?
Sure
@Grey:
So The betts trade got nixed
Would you u trade Scherzer for Corey Seager.
Seager would cost $16 next year
thanks
Sure
Beltran to Texas
@JeF WiTh 1 F: Seems like his value just went up.. thoughts? Grey?
Goodbye DeShields
@Grey: Think it affects the playing time for Profar/Gallo?
Oh yeah
@JeF WiTh 1 F: that’s batshit nuts. 39 year old on an outgoing contract for a top 50ish prospect SP?! that’d be too much for ortiz, much less beltran. delino back to minors.
This deadline shizz makes me nervous. Please don’t fuxk with my fantasy rosters. Please real baseball dont!
Haha, agreed
@J-FOH: i expected to have slept too long and lost 2 more closers in a few leagues (possibly each i mean). no real RP movement yet.
Which side in dynasty? Cutch or Rendon? Not competing now
Thanks
Cutch
Hi Grey. ..missing piece pipe. ..your best yet. …
1) I drank the Kool Aid on Kendrys Morales. ..got some use but. ..enough. Potential replacements. …please rank when all are healthy and/or back. Vargas, Joseph, Cron, Solarte, Profar, Forsythe or….stash Josh Bell?
2) I have Madbum, Fulmer, Darvish, Skaggs, Matz, JRoss. Rp, Chappy, Harris, Kintzler, and Cam Man….lose anyone for Snell, Taillon, MMoore, Graveman, Cashner, or Conley?
3) Overstocked at mi….Baez, DJ, Turner, Bregman, … any given day can only start 2…seem to be choosing wrong ones daily though all but Bregman producing. And Devon Travis and Profar are waivering…..thoughts?
4) Naquin or Maybin ros?
5) Last. ..Hedges worth stashing? Same ? on Benetiendi.
Feel free to wait til 1pm to answer. ..lol…and Ralph, feel free to chime in on prospects….
Greg
Title was Rudy…. 1) None of these… Logan 2) Don’t know what Cam Man is 3) No 4. Naquin 5. No
@Grey: Cam Bedrosian. … ;)
Hola Grey!
Pick a 1B (Yahoo) batty call for this evening..
A) W. Flores vs. Sabathia (8.8)
B) D. Lee vs. E-Rod (5.8)
C)
D) K. Morales @ Archer (-6.0, but 8-13 career vs. Arch)
E) ???
Lee
is aaron judge worth adding in keeper leagues after the beltran trade? 10 team 5×5
Sure
NL only with no ratios, just hits and normal stuff. didn’t think captain kirk was out there, he’s been owned by at least 4 people over year.
C contreras
1B rizzo
2B murphy
SS villar
3B rendon
MI nunez (teams stopping paying attention only reason i got him on waivers)
CI adonis
OF (4) marte/altherr/heyward/span
util (2) hundley/fatt adams
BN mercer/jaso/joseph
guessing my drop for captain kirk is jaso here? earlier in year i needed another CI guy, since added nunez/joseph/adonis. i might be best off going with 2 BN guys and another SP, best out there is norris (also surprisingly just dropped).
2. if i go the route of extra SP (no ratios, just earned runs against and innings pitched to replace ERA/WHIP), i would’ve thought mercer would be drop, but he’s been much better than expected, including getting way better lineup slotting from CuntHer than he deserves. is it heyward now though?
1. Sure 2. I wouldn’t drop Heyward in an NL-Only league
10 team 6×6 OBP league need a replacement for reyes at mi
Neil walker, schoop, gennett, Cozart, lowrie or gyorko
Schoop
sounding like MIL asking for too much on lucroy, it’s
MIL = JB
rest of MLB teams = Grey
of course lucroy himself F’d up not going to CLE in the first place.
Ha
@Montezuma’s Revenge… right now: dammit, i didn’t lose gallo to MIL for that dynasty where i need TEX players mins, but did lose brinson.
Maybe this is more a question for prospector ralp but ill fire away anyway.
Pondering moving Dee Gordon and Story but not sure what sort of return id need in return. Was offered hosmer for story AND judge but i feel thats giving up more than necessary.
16 team league 9 off cats (K’s, XBH, OPS are additional cats), 30 man rosters and keep 25. Currently have Russell/Rodgers/Swanson and mondesi/barreto on the roster that are SS eligible (and devon travis at 2b)
I’d ask Ralph
Hey Grey-12 team weekly league:
1-after last week, I’m benching Bregman in favor of Joc (series @Col). Sounds right?
2-starting Chris Davis over Gardner?
3- I need to bench one of: McCarthy (@ Col, BOS), Skaggs (@SEA) or Maurer. Starts aren’t an issue, Maurer is my 3rd closer. Ratios in decent shape.
Thanks!
1. Sure 2. Yes 3. McCarthy
@Mark: @Grey: LA faces three lefties this week. Kike’s back so Joc will be benched at LEAST once if not all three.
So with rangers getting beltre do you think profar still plays almost everyday?
@Brett: he’s been playing lf does he Play over Rua
They’ve had Beltre
@Grey: what about left field
@Brett: stupid auto correct Beltran
Kintzler or Thornburg?
Thornburg
Just received an offer, which side do you prefer ROS?
Castellanos and Diaz for
Madison Baumgarner
Bum
With Jeffress getting traded to TEX, how does that effect Dyson’s roll there as the closer?
Also, doe Thornburg become an immediate add for saves in MIL?
Imagine Dyson would lose it, yes, Thornburg
@Grey: but should we drop dyson for thornburg?
Thornburg is definitely the closer
@Grey: in a saves only league i was just able to drop a streamer for today (nelson) for thornburg. now i can wait and see on dyson/jeffress, just in case. i have 5 closers (right now) for 4 spots.
Cool
Matt Moore in SF better than Teheran ROS?
Sure
Hey man, you playing ryan braun this week?
I don’t own him
Mazara or Bregman as a bench bat?
Bregman
@ryanoger: Maz
@The Hack Formerly Known as Hate:
New lineup should boost Maz a bit I would think…
@ryanoger:
also, you trying to tell me something through your clever name there?
@ryanoger: Im a hack that used to write here, no special meaning, just know what I iz
@ryanoger: mazUZZZA
@Grey: weekly roto, trying to sell a closer. who do you like better as a trade target between happ and lackey for someone of the dyson/thornburg/barrett level?
Lackey
12 team H2H 6×6
I’ve got Hill on the DL and Berrios in NA slot. Sitting Berrios tonight.
I’m liking the sound of Ivan Nova on the Pirates under Searage, facing one or more of ATL, CIN and SD in the near future.
Also have the now-Twinkie Santiago, who might be up against CLE, TB, HOU, KC and ATL soon.
1) Should Berrios come back strong, what’s the ranking for the below?
Skaggs, Shoemaker, Bundy, Santiago, Manaea, Berrios
2) Drop any of the above for Nova?
Thanks in advance.
1. That ranking looks about right for 1st three 2. Santiago
Please ranks these OF’s ROS:
Marte, Cutch, Beltran, Yoennis, Herrerra, K. Davis, Pence?
Also Todd Frazier or Franco at 3B?
Thanks
Marte, Yoenis, Cutch
Frazier
Hi Grey, who would you prefer between Rendon and McCutchen in a keeper? Close? Thanks.
Cutch, you asked this already
@Grey: Nope, someone else asked this, I just missed it skimming comments above. Thanks for answering the same question twice.
No problem
10 team H2H Points
Pitcher Scoring: WIN (+3), LOSS (-3), IP (+3), K (+1), BB (-1), SAVE (+3), HOLD (+1), ER (-2), HIT (-1), NH (+10) PF (+15)
(3) RP: Robertson, Osuna, Dyson
Is it now time to make any changes to my RP? There’s lots of closers and holds guys in FA so I just decided to list them by total points…
Available RP (most pts): A. Reed, Dull, Gregerson, Blanton, Phelps, N. Jones, W. Davis*, Thornburg, Madson, N. Feliz, R. Iglesias, S. Kelley, T. Watson, Barrett, Estevez, Giles, Papelbon, Kintzler, J. Johnson, W. Smith
Thorn over Dyson
@Grey: Cool thanks!
No problem
Who closes in Texas
Jeffress
@Grey: weekly roto, need to roll with one of these closers this week. who do you like?
dyson – 3 @ bal, 3 @ hou
thornburg – 3 @ sd, 3 @ ari
barrett – 3 vs was, 3 vs mil
thanks.
Thorn
Battling for first and trades have absolutely killed my closer situation. Damn you real baseball!!
Dman
Archer or Cole this week and ROS ?
No idea of matchups, but like Cole
Thorn, Madson, Herrea (KC), Estevez ROS?
Estevez
Drop Nate jones or wait for deadline
Moreland or sano
Drop…Sano
@Giolito: Can you not wait a couple more hours?
Dyson accumulated 6 saves and allowed 1 ER in all of July. You sure he loses the job?
@jacks: This guy.
Nope, no idea, just guessing
Hutch for Liriano makes me sad.
That is awful for the Jays
Dynasty league 12 team: Dee Gordon, Dahl, Nola for odor, jp Crawford. Which side do you like?
Odor
Whoah! Liriano to Toronto. Let’s see how high that ERA can go pitching in that launching pad….
Yeah, terrible
What a crazy day & quite the flurry of activity the last hour ….crazy hobby where we just sit back & watch the value of our fake teams fluctuate with events totally beyond our control …no different then boneheaded managers or injuries but so many changes in a few days then a few hours.
On to my questions
1. Need to eliminate 1 two start SP or sit all my closers:
Elfin SF; @SD
Pax Bos; LAA
Venturo @TB; Tor
2. Need to eliminate one of:
Matz @NYY
VV SF
Pineda Cle
Thanks for the advice ….hope the trading deadline gave you some wins!!
Haha, yup…. Pax…. Matz
Chances Jeffress is the closer in TEX?
I’d guess maybe 60%
Odubel Herrara has been pretty cold since the All Star break besides a few SBs. Should I drop him for Dahl?
Sure
Zack Wheeler beginning rehab assignment. Interested?
No
@Grey: weekly roto redraft. justin turner/thornburg/velazquez for verlander?
Turner
@Grey: is it close? i have turner as a bench bat behind arenado and play him some at dh but have belt, trea and mazara at dh as well.
Sure, close enough
Dahl or Mazara ROS?
Dahl
HiI Grey, which 2 would you want for ROS: Gausman, Bundy, Snell, McCarthy. If it makes a difference we can keep a player for 3 years.
Thanks!
Snell, McCarthy
@Grey: Follow up question, drop Gausman or Pomeranz to make room for McCarthy? Thanks in advance.
Either, look at matchups, prolly Gausman
@Grey: Got it. Thanks.
unless something really weird going on buxton/sano not in, weird since yahoo’s saying they both are.
Weird
Question for Grey/Ralph:
With Norris staying in SD, is Hedges still worth stashing? Sounds like they might want to limit his service time…
Thanks
Lose him
My pitchers next 3 days
Duffy @ rays , Paxton vs Boston, price @seattle, darvish @baltimore, carrasco vs Minnesota, Salazar vs minnesota
His pitchers
Shoemaker vs Oakland, jimmy Nelson @ Padres, shields @ Detroit, guerra @ Padres, hamels @bal
Cats are w/l/hr/cg/so/era/whip/qs
Hate starting the week losing every cat so should I sit Duffy and Paxton and play it safe with Salazar?
Sit Pax
Big boost for Moore heading to SF? Any idea whose spot he takes in that rotation because I was planning on starting tomorrow vs. KC
Nice boost, prolly Cain’s spot
Street get his spot taken yet?
By who?
14 team H2H redraft mixed league. I’m down to $17 FAAB…
I picked up Ken Giles today but would prefer Thornburg since he’s got no real competition now.
Hold Giles or drop for Thornburg? Maybe Giles takes over for Harris soon?
I can’t afford many more moves..
Thanks!
Go with Thornburg
Dahl or Piscotty?
Piscotty
Thanks Grey enjoy all of your content.
Piscotty>Reddick?
Yeah, it’s close
Thank you
No problem
Ok, I know I’m being insecure . But, I have to trade this after the deadline
Start Bundy on Tuesday? home vs now more powerful Texas Rangers?
I’d start him
@Joeg414: I wouldn’t touch Bundy in that start unless you’re in a very deep league.
I’m starting him in a 12 team weekly league
@Grey: Is he fully stretched out from the bullpen yet? I’ll admit I’m intrigued by Bundy, but that seems like a really tough matchup, especially since the Rangers will probably have their new acquisitions in the lineup.
I’m not that worried, SON doesn’t like it either though
Drop Edwin Diaz, bedrosian, kinztler, estevez, or Maurer for Giles or wait and see?
Hold
You think Hutch goes to the BP? I’m really curious to see what Searage does with him. Could be a scrap heap pick up.
Maybe he starts a few times this year
Which side do you like better (dynasty league)
Chris Archer or
Tyler Skaggs & Sonny Gray
Archer
Hiya Grey,
I inherited a team in a 15-team AL only roto dynasty league that is in need of some rebuilding. It’s my first year plain in a league-only format and I don’t know what I’m doing. Zach Britton is the only decent RP I have and I feel like he should be able to bring me back a solid bat, but trading him would leave me without any real closer in a league starving for them. Would it be worth trading an elite (and my only) closer for a bat that helps me across multiple categories, even if it means I’m essentially punting saves?
Don’t punt saves
Thanks Grey.
No problem
puig news. hahahahaha. to be fair he had ditched the LAD nearly 2 years ago after those 2 good months he had once
Yeah, exactly
@For an Armenianless Vacation Come to Akron: He is a troubled young man. Sad.
@Vinny Boombatz: he’ll still be able to pass out in a pile of money after he gets back from his next nightclub brawl (which i would take 1-4 that it might come tonight too)
oh yeah, and with nicasio, liriano this year and AA ron sanchez, if liriano suddenly gets decent on TOR, whoever the fuck TOR’s pitching coach is has dethroned searage.
Ha
Best replacement for Aledyms Diaz….gennet,kendrick peraza,cozart,flores or Tim Anderson.
Depends on needs, Scooter
@Grey: For average he is the best choice but I may go Cozart for HR—needs. Thanks fantasy dad.
Ha, no problem
@Vinny Boombatz:
The guy I’m playing this week in my NL-Only H2H league has(had) a juggernaut team, but just lost Lucroy, Aledmys, and possibly Puig(benched I’m sure, if not demoted/traded). He also has Carpenter and Bour rehabbing. Oh, did I mention he has Kershaw too? He still has a great pitching, which includes Scherzer, Lester, Chapman, Kenley, Famila, and Gomez. But now I have a chance to pull further ahead.
$%#T…. I just jinxed myself
@Pugs & Slugs: I’m not sure why this was a reply to your comment. That was weird…and akward.
@Pugs & Slugs: not so awkward. thanks.
Hey Grey!
I’m trying to trade my Springer for some pitching help. (15 team rotis keep 5 forever)
Would you trade Springer for McCullers plus any 1 of these guys?
– Jon Gray
– Skaggs
– Snell
Have tons of offense, need some high upside SPs for the stretch run. Thanks!
Nope
Gotcha, thanks much. Really appreciate the help.
Have one more for ya. You think Willson Contreras figures it out ROS or should I drop him for Grandal?
Go Grandal
Held Peraza for nearly two weeks in a deep league for a sweet SAGNOF pay day. If they roll Schebler out there every day I will be quite the sad Popsicle. Would think they’d want to see what they have in Peraza, but he’s still blocked in the MI. Hoping they play two rabbits in the OF the rest of the year. Though I can see them wanting some more power in the lineup I guess.
Hope the deadline didn’t take a shizz on any of your competitive teams Grey!
Nah, didn’t get too affected… I think Peraza plays
Texas GM just said Dyson to remain as closer
Oh well, there goes Jeffress’ value
@Rusty Arms: see how long that lasts next time the bases get loaded on unlucky groundballs that didn’t go right into people’s gloves, if at the same time jeffress K’d 2 guys in the 8th inning.
I’m waiting for the “When Puigs Fly” references/jokes.
Ha
@Grey: Dodgers demote Yasiel to AAA. Puigs do fly!! …To Oklahoma City.
What a waste of pure talent.
Agreed
Which closer do I trade dyson Casilla Harris
Dyson
K(rap)-zar…..ew.
Indeed
Mr. Grey- Mr. Reddick or Mr. Kipnis rest of season/beyond? Either as a keeper in a 12 team/keep 10? Many thanks.
Kipnis
J. Baez batting cleanup for Cubs today. Has he now covered every spot in the batting order?
How many guys bat ninth one day and cleanup a week later? Maddon….yow.
@Creepy Crespi: The only spot he hasn’t hit in is second.
Haha
Starting Paxton now tonight since Salazar gave up 3 homers and probably going to get loss ?

@Sandlot Bully: the maurer dust has been settled for weeks.
Thornburg over Desclafani
@Grey: Thanks!
No problem
I have Brian McCann so I am worried about Gary Sanchez coming up on Wed, would you add him as insurance and I would have to drop Nola.
@Paul: I could also drop Bedrosian
Yes, drop Nola
Moreland or Reddick?
Since Puigs didn’t fly,will Reddick cost Howie ABs?
Reddick…Howie plays left field
@Grey: Thanks-I wonder if coffee futures shot up today?
Haha
@Grey: Anything to worry about concerning Salazar? That’s 3 out of his last 4 that have been bleh. i didn’t watch his start tonight because it was so short – I got home from work and his night was already over
Hopefully he’s not hiding an injury and he’s just dealing with mechanics
@Grey: Indians manager Terry Francona said that Danny Salazar will undergo a precautionary MRI on his arm on Tuesday = disgraceful list pending….
Should drop papelbon, for oday or knebel. Should I drop papelbon for just about anyone, or does he still ve value.
@ganggreenn: and should I drop travis darnaud for leon or gary sanchez.

Danny Duffy is having quite a gem of a pitching night…

Duff Man!!! Loving that I was on his bandwagon from Day 1 and he has not slowed down
Any chance you’re dropping Castellanos for Kepler?

With this rotation, what additions/subtractions would you make based on the available waiver options
SP Archer, Hill, Cmart, Duffy, Fulmer, Nola, Matz, McCarthy
Available: Snell, Conley, Moore, Taillon, Bundy, Manaea, Bailey
@Grey: Salazar has an elbow issue – and if it’s a DL situation, who do I pick up from this schmohawks?
Matt Moore (NL West FTW), Robbie Ray (K-Rate), McHugh, Odorizzi, Ervin Santana?
What I really need is for the Reds to put Raisel back in the rotation. He’s killing it out of the bullpen right now

Which side do you prefer?
1. Beltre and Tomas for Franco and Maybin
2. Beltre for Franco
