A walloper of a trade deadline day! The biggest winners, losers and–Hold on, getting an iCal reminder. Oh crap, I was supposed to remind the Dodgers that the trade deadline was yesterday. Crap! Okay, will you guys pretend it’s actually today and not yesterday? Seriously, I’m gonna be in big trouble! I really don’t understand how an entire team could sleep through the deadline. Oh well! So, onto teams that didn’t sleep through it! Mason Miller was traded to the Padres, as speculated first here after reading context clues elsewhere! Grey: Context Clue Reader. You can shorten it to CCR. Guess he’s just a fortunate son, I think as I’m lookin’ out my back door–Okay! Mason Miller moves to the Padres and Robert Suarez stays the closer, and Miller becomes his setup man, until Suarez loses a few saves, maybe. Trade deadline is crazy. In SacTown, Jack Perkins got the save on Wednesday, and looked solid enough. It could be Michael Kelly, who has hilariously awful peripherals, or I guess Sean Newcomb, but he’s a lefty and Newcomb is same as the Oldcomb, won’t get fooled again. Why am I reciting 70’s lyrics? That’s almost as dumb as sleeping through the trade deadline. Maybe the Dodgers figured they spent a billion dollars on their team and trading too would be unfair. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
JP Sears – Traded to the Padres. If only there was some way of seeing this coming…[sees his name] Just Padres Sears?! That’s what it is?! Oh no, it’s not. Just Parking Sears? No, that’s Reese McGuire. Meh, whatever. So, San Diego gets a Sears to go with their middling Little Italy. Snap! I snapped them! No? No snap? Okay. Sears had a 4.95 ERA, but only 4.55 in away games! Streamonator guy for almost all leagues.
Freddy Fermin – Traded to the Padres. Padres have such a little brother complex they went out and got a guy that sounds like a Dodgers superstar.
Ramon Laureano – Traded to the Padres. Ramon Laureano returns to California where it all began. It being him getting a fat hookup with some PEDs. Reach out to your boy after the season, Ramon! This is a solid move for the Padres, but Petco is a worse park than Camden, and he’ll likely be relegated to lower in the order than where he was hitting in Baltimore. Not a fatal blow to his fantasy value though. I bet he’ll be in this afternoon’s Buy column (if he’s rostered in under 50% of leagues)!
Ryan O’Hearn – Traded to the Padres. Padres got Irish Gavin Sheets. Call him O’Sheets. Told bad he wasn’t in Baltimore with that name. He could’ve been O’Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Assuming he’s going to platoon, though I’m not exactly sure with who, and this hurts the original Sheets’s playing time. O’Sheets stays pretty much same for fantasy value.
Will Wagner – Traded to the Padres. Are the Padres sure he’s old enough for them?
Nestor Cortes – Traded to the Padres. Padres have a 75-man roster.
Leo De Vries – Headlined the Mason Miller move, going to the A’s. I’m sure Itch will have all his thoughts on Sunday, but this sounds like a solid get. Then again, De Vries was the highest-ranked prospect to be traded at the deadline since Eloy Jimenez, which is saying all I think needs to be said about holding prospects. You think it’s impossible to know what a Major Leaguer is going to do year to year, wait until you get into talking minors.
Alex Call – Traded to the Dodgers. Dodgers needed everything and got Alex Call. Incredible. Maybe they were ordering a wake-up call. Oh, crap! That is my bad!
Brock Stewart – Traded to the Dodgers. He’ll work middle relief, as an Opener, as a closer, does he have a medical degree for their injured pitchers? Seriously, the Dodgers seeing only three healthy pitchers on their team, and thinking, “Yeah, we’re good,” is wild.
Miguel Andujar – Traded to the Reds. Yankees fans, “We could’ve sent Andujar for fookin’ Skenes!” By the way, if you’re a bad corner infielder, do you want to play for the Reds? They’d love to have you. Guessing Andujar platoons with everyone, and has no value outside of NL-Only.
Elly De La Cruz – 3-for-6, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 19th homer, hitting .285. Gonna be cool to see E! make a run for the playoffs now that the Reds got Miguel Andujar and Ke’Bryan–Ow, eye roll headache!
Ke’Bryan Hayes – 1-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .235. Oh, hell yeah! He’s good now! (Voice inside my head, “No, he’s not.”)
Spencer Steer – 1-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 12th homer. This was an insane game. It was 3-3 in the 8th, then was 11-11 in the 9th. That’s bizzonkers.
Andrew Abbott – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 10 baserunners (5 BBs), 1 K, ERA at 2.15. It’s scary how bad the Regression Fairies want a piece of Abbott and the universe keeps fighting it. Stay strong, universe!
Carlos Carrasco – 6 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 5.68. Oh, yeah., I see why the Braves didn’t sell Ozuna and others. Makes sense!
Oswald Peraza – Traded to the Angels. Angels should be taken away from Perry and Arte for their own good.
Steven Matz – Traded to the Red Sox. Can fans veto a trade?
Dustin May – Traded to the Red Sox. With the results they’re getting from Walker Buehler, why wouldn’t they? The good news for Dustin May, he doesn’t need to wear a hat to rep the Red Sox. This is one of those trades that gives me shudders thinking about May pitching in Fenway.
Willi Castro – Traded to the Cubs. Every team needs a Willi Castro, but only one team has one. Cubs good, they did; Yoda speaks, I am. His fantasy value doesn’t change anywhere he goes. He’s just super utility Willi.
Taylor Rogers – Traded to the Cubs. Pittsburgh had to trade him, already had a Rogers in the neighborhood.
Ryan Pressly – Designated for assignment. His assignment is to say he’s really Taylor Rogers and to stay with the team.
Brandon Lockridge – Headed to the Brewers for Nestor. Not really sure what the Brewers were doing here. Maybe they felt naked without their “should be good but is not” outfielder with Garrett Mitchell out.
Shelby Miller – Headed to the Brewers with Jordan Montgomery. They’re a pair, I guess. Welp, my fantasy closers of Shelby Miller, Helsley and Suarez are looking a little shaky!
Jackson Chourio – Hit the IL with a hammy injury. Why does the Fantasy Baseball Overlord smite us?
David Bednar – Traded to the Yankees. There’s literally no way this could backfire. Going from the bright lights of Pittsburgh and all the pressures to protect a 3-1 game with 19 people in the crowd and 12 of them are there because they got so drunk at the previous night game that they puked on themselves and their friends put french fries on top of the vomit because that’s a Pittsburgh thing, while the Pirates are down 19 games in the Wild Card race vs. the Yankees, where the fans are very forgiving. Nope, no problem I see here happening. I’d guess Devin stays the closer in the Bronx, but Yanks going to Bednar for a few weeks, until he sucks, could happen. This will make Dennis Santana the Pirates closer.
Camilo Doval – Traded to the Yankees. So, the Yankees have five closers. That’s a little nuts. This makes Randy Rodriguez the Giants’ closer, but can’t rule out Ryan Walker.
Jake Bird – Traded to the Yankees. Bird will be used in middle relief and to flip off fans. Rockies get back Roc Riggio and Ben Shields. The latter is the the child of Ben Sheets and Jake Shields. How fast they grow up.
Jose Caballero – Traded to the Yankees. Maybe Volpe will teach him how to play D. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Caballero go into a platoon, utility role, play everywhere, even though Volpe should. My guess is playing time will be less for Caballero, but fantasy value might not change dramatically. Hard to say.
Ben Rice – 1-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 16th homer, hitting .230. He’s so startable if he has catcher eligibility, and so terrible if he doesn’t.
Giancarlo Stanton – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 8th homer. He also took out Aranda on the basepaths because I don’t have him in any leagues. Thanks, I guess.
Marcus Stroman – 5 IP, 4 ER, 6 hits, zero walks, 3 Ks, ERA at 6.23 vs. Ryan Pepiot – 4 IP, 7 ER, ERA at 3.80. One pitcher’s team was buying and one’s was sorta selling. The one buying had the 6.23 ERA, but the other one gave up 7 runs, so I guess there’s that.
Adrian Houser – Traded to the Rays. Aside from his 2.10 ERA, his numbers don’t look that good, but if he keeps guys off base and Rays sprinkle magic on his head, he could have matchups appeal.
Griffin Jax – Traded to the Rays. Tombstone reads, “Griffin Jax, Closer: 7/30-7/31.”
Jonathan Aranda – Will miss some time, after hurting his wrist colliding with Giancarlo. Was he protecting my honor? Swoon.
Danny Coulombe – Headed to the Rangers. I do love his coffee.
Merrill Kelly – Traded to the Rangers. Feels like a B-level move that actually turns out to an A-level move. Sneaky, and good. You’ve been approved! If I were in an AL-Only league and I could get me some Kelly, I’d fill my belly! What a poet! No, seriously, this is awesome. He’s underrated and Arlington is good for pitchers.
Phil Maton – Traded to the Rangers. Maton’s stint as Cards’ closer lasted almost as long as Jax’s stint as Twins’ closer. Will Maton see saves in Texas? I highly doubt it. Bochy seems to like Garcia now, after taking two months to land on him. I’d try to hold Maton and Garcia, if I had room.
Kumar Rocker – 4 2/3 IP, 3 ER, ERA at 5.74. Hopefully Merrill Kelly replaces him.
Cal Raleigh – 1-for-4 and his 42nd homer. That’s 42 homers before August. For a catcher. Judge had 42 homers on the same date when he hit 62 homers. Giant ass jokes aside, this is crazy.
Cole Young – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer. Cole world!
Cedric Mullins – Traded to the Mets. Mets get their elusive decent third outfielder. Mullins is a perfect complement to that team, and finally puts Starling Marte, Tyrone Taylor, Acuña, you name the guy on the bench. Think this is the biggest hitter going from the AL to the NL, but results may vary with the O’s hitters who went to the Padres.
Ryan Gusto – Headed to the Marlins. Finally, the Marlins have a chance to do something with Gusto! [ducks out of the way of the giant cane trying to pull me off the stage] Too fast! Knowing the Marlins, Gusto will go into the rotation until he’s arbitration eligible. He’s fine for NL-Only, but backend starter at best.
James Outman – Headed to the Twins. Sweet, how does platooning sound? Hold up! Went to look at the Twins’ lineup now, and management might’ve finally stopped Baldelli from platooning, because they only have six players total. Kody Clemens is their third best hitter. Twins announced a select number of lucky fans chosen at random will be playing for them the rest of the year. Good luck to everyone, and a special good luck to Guardians pitchers trying to get these lucky fans to not swing at balls out of the zone.
Taj Bradley – Headed to the Twins in the Jax trade. If he were going to the Twins from anywhere else, I’d be intrigued, but if the Rays can’t fix an arm, I’m nit sure the Twins can.
Cole Sands – New Twins closer for their two-point-five games they’re due to win now.
Shane Bieber – Traded to the Jays. This Bieber Swag PR tour just went international! Shame Bieber’s leaving Cleveland before he even had a chance to get wrapped up in a gambling probe. This move is one of those rare moves that I like for real baseball, but don’t really care that much about for fantasy. If Bieber can come back and look solid by mid-September and for the playoffs, this is huge for the Jays. If you have room for fantasy, stash away, can’t hurt, but rarely do injury stashes work out as you think they will. See every pitcher in the history of baseball as an example.
Ty France – Traded to the Jays. Yeah, France to Canada. No kidding! Enjoy le trade acquisition, you big ol’ Frenchies!
Louis Varland – Traded to the Jays. Pretty interesting of the Jays to add to guys who sound French. Not saying there’s something sneaky going on here, but if they’re wearing berets to play baseball and using kilometers, I’m shutting off my TV.
Anthony DeSclafani – Will take Merrill Kelly’s rotation spot. Cool, who’s going to fill the 17 other holes int he DBacks’ lineup?
Stephen Kolek – Traded to the Royals with Ryan Bergert in the Fermin deal. Most of the “Meh, who cares who the Yanks sent to the Pirates” deals I ignore, but this has the makings of actually working out better for the Royals than most under-the-radar deadline moves. You know I love the Royals’ pitching coach, whoever it is, and Kolek and Bergert could be the next, sneaky Wacha-Lugo-Bubic. Color me intrigued.
Bailey Falter – Traded to the Royals. Until the Royals prove me ill-advised, I like starters going there. Is Falter now Sandy Koufax? Maybe, but the latter is 89. Definitely worth an NL-Only bid, at worst.
Mike Yastrzemski – Traded to the Royals. Carl’s Jr. Jr. putting in work behind Bobby Witt Jr. Nostrils flare. Let’s go! [realizing Mike Yastrzemski is pretty boring] Oh well, I tried.
Robert Hassell III – Called up by the Nats, along with Shinnosuke Ogasawara, Orlando Ribalta, Ryan Loutos and you’ll never know if I made up any of those names.
Kyle Finnegan – Traded to the Tigers. Does this kill most of Vest’s value, but without flair, Vest lacked value? Or does this kill Finnegan’s value? My guess is Finnegan is the closer, but I’d hold both until it’s clear. Also traded to the Tigers’ pen was Paul Sewald and Rafael Montero. Finnegan’s departure from Washington likely means Jose Ferrer becomes the favorite to step in as the Nats closer, and as a guy who sounds like he played the villain in a 1940’s noir thriller starring Joseph Cotten and Agnes Moorehead, whose character was listed as The Dame.
Charlie Morton – Traded to the Tigers. Chazz Chuck to the Joe Exotics! Uh-oh, GreyBot500 is breaking down! Too many trade moves! Must begin to wind down!
Jesus Sanchez – Traded to the Astros. Astros were never properly punished by Manfred, but now they’re gonna have their come-to-Jesus moment. Love to see Sanchez finally tap into some of the power he never really showed in Miami. I’m a fan, but wish he was a righty in The Big Radish. Meh, can’t be worse than hitting for the Marlins, let’s be real.
Carlos Correa – Traded to the Astros. Meeting Correa at the airport was his old friend, the trash can. They stopped to take pics while people pointed and laughed, but those people didn’t understand the special bond they had. They had become World Champions, together. So, with Isaac Paredes out 6-7 months with one of the worst hamstring strains I think I’ve ever heard, Correa agreed to play 3rd base. Well, sure, until his ankle/plantar fasciitis/you name it sidelines him. If I’m being sincere, it’s cool to see Carlos Correa go back to the Astros. Never felt right that he left. Was like when a faction broke off from al-Qaeda to start ISIS. Something just felt off.
THERE’S A NEW POST FOR FOLLOWUPS FOR ME
Jose Ferrer starred as Cyrano de Bergerac!
also as the Emperor in the original Dune movie
And now he’s closing for the Nats!
12T H2H points no keeper league, better option ROS Devin Williams or Trevor Megill
Jasson Dominguez or Harris II points league to replace ChorILo?
Harris
Need saves, Trevor Rogers, or Baz, or R.Maurico, too much for Randy Rod??
Pick up Graceffo…
Nope
The Correa blurb reminded me that you’re from Los Waaaaaaaangles.
I’m from Jersey, what’s it to you
He’s gonna be fitted for a nice pair of concrete shoes soon enough
Andrew Friedman and Alex Anthopoulos were spotted at a Coldplay concert last night. Mystery solved.
Hahaha
Now that the trade deadline’s over we can all get back to talking about torpedo bats
Haha, what’s this, April?
I’d imagine Garcia stays the closer in Texas for now. Bruce Bochy just hasn’t had time to fall in love with Maton…yet. Bochy watched some guy named Luke Jackson rearrange his jock strap with incredible vigor while on the mound one day in the middle of March, and he found his closer. That didn’t work out. But….this Garcia fella knows how to chew and spit with the best of ’em, so Bochy found his man once again. But hey maybe one day Maton will slap a teammate’s glutes in such a mesmerizing way, while the sun fades in the background, and Bochy falls in love all over again. “That’s a gamer if I’ve ever seen me one.” Thus, Maton becomes closer.
Haha, exactly
Is Felix, Bautista that is not Jose, a drop in a redraft? Overflowing IL.
Even if ok, is it worthkeeing a Baltimore closer?
*Fred starts gently sobbing while looking at Corbin Martin on one of his rosters.*
Drop
might note the other possible drops for i don’t know, an idea as to what the options would be.
I think he was asking Grey
Austin Riley + Burleson or Matt Chapman + Soderstrom ?
Riley
Comparing the astros to a terrorist organization is a analogy i can get behind
Nice hustle as always, stud
Haha
Grey
Happy Friday after trade deadline day.
14 team mixed, standard cats keeper.
Was just offered Bellinger, Springs, Taylor Rogers and Wood Richardson for my Cease, Devin Williams, and Matt Chapman
I have depth at 3B and can barely make up points in saves , ( and can go potential new closer fishing this week ) these are the only reasons I am considering it. ) Still, if do you think I should hold? It does sound like a bit much.
Also, who closes now in STL ?
As always thanks in advance.
Cody side
Dansby or Langeliers DH ROS
Lang
More inclined to see what you can get for Joe Ryan after the Twins’ fire sale yesterday & his propensity to dip in performance in the 2H?
Never mind. Saw a similar question was posed below. Was trying to shop him for someone like Schwarber since I’m lagging in the HR ctg
i love j.ryan but if you already are pretty deep in pitching it’s slam dunk take schwarber, maybe even if not deep.
Sure
Looks like the Cubs are throwing Soroka in the rotation right away. Do you trust him in a 2-start week, at St. Louis and vs. the Reds at home.
His velocity has been down roughly 3 mph in his last 3 or so starts.
I do not
Who do you rank ROS for saves (I know it’s a crap shoot)
Randy Rod, Henriquez, Santana, Vesia, Perkins, Sands, Santana
the 1st Santana, Sands, Ronny H., Perkins
Thanks. Waivers are due Sunday night. Maybe more clarity the next couple of days too. This is so hard waaaaaaaa
Haha
Evil Ways, Jingo, Soul Sactifice: the first Santana album was a monster!
Graceffo
As a Braves fan, I’m excited that we signed Carrasco!
I heard a rumor that Glavine and Smoltz are working out and will be joining the rotation soon…
HAHA
wait till they notice stroman got dropped.
What’s up Grey, wanted to bounce a trade proposal off you. This is a 12 team 5×5 roto scoring league. I’m currently in first, with a pretty healthy lead, so I don’t want to rock the boat too much but I never ignore a chance to improve.
I give: Mullins, Story, J. Hoffman
I get: Jackson Merrill
I think Merrill is potentially still a buy low, though of course he’s running out of season turn it around. Story is on a heater, but I suspect he will turn back into a pumpkin. Hoffman is the real loss, though my feeling is that I am in a pretty solid position in the standings on saves and can hopefully grab a guy off waivers with all of the turnover to try to patch the hole. I also have Witt at SS and L. Garcia and B. Lowe to fill in at MI, so I think Story is expendable.
I know this isn’t a lot of context, but does that seem like a good trade or too much to give for Merrill? Which side would you want?
Thanks!
Jackson side, but it’s fair, could easily work out for other side
Thanks! Can’t believe I have been reading this site for something like 18(?) years. We are old, my dude. I try not to bother you too much with comments, but appreciate all you, Rudy, and the gang do!
We are indeed, appreciate you
Rank ROS with four available SP’s who were traded at the deadline
Taj and Abel to the Twins, Gusto to the Marlins and Kolek to the Royals?
Zero? Are these guys really best you have available? I guess Gusto, Kolek
Of course. All the decent arms are taken.
Can you rank:
Baz home vs Dodgers
Parker home vs Brewers
Wacha @ Blue Jays
Parker, Wacha
I don’t need help with any particular category for a utility spot in a redraft league. Who should contribute more: O’Hearn or X. Edwards?
Edwards
Thank you
No problem
Who gets more saves ROS: Vest or Cade Smith?
Both have non-trivial competition (Det-Finnegan/Kahnle; and Cle-Gadish), and Detroit is better.
We’ll know more after Tigers say something, I’d guess Smith
If Smith spikes his first pitch tonight I’d go Vest.
Cade also in football mode already
One more for you-
For the rest of the season:
Dansby or Adames?
Adames
I love the fact that the Reds grab Ke’Bryan as a defense-first 3B, and he immediately commits an error and hits a bomb. Baseball be silly, yo.
-IANASM
Haha, totally
Also I literally laughed out loud multiple times throughout the rundown.
Personal favorite is the “french fries on top of the vomit because that’s a Pittsburgh thing.”
haha
Primanti’s! (sp?)
Primanti Bros is so damn good.
Absolutely!
was that directly a joke based on zack and miri make a porno?
Yeah
just thought of that upon that comment, forgot when i read the above. it seemed way too specific to just be about yinzers in general hehe.
In a vacuum, your moving Chandler Simpson for Andy Pages, yes?
Yes
wow, says a lot about where pages gets ranked next year, based on grey’s comments about where he’ll maybe rank simpson.
Would you drop Abbott for Rasmussen or Gil or hold?
Hold
Goooood morning & Happy National Water Balloon Day!
Feels like I got soaked with all my (ex)closers yesterday (Helsley, Suarez, Bednar, etc)
I know this was asked/ discussed a little yesterday but now that the dust has settled (a little) & I see who’s left, how would you rank the following for Saves:
And would you rank Randy Rodriguez over all these guys (only available in 1 of my leagues).
Lastly, any chance Griffin Jax becomes the pseudo-closer in TB or am i dreaming?
Thanks as always!
Santana, Sands, Perkins, a lot of IDKs
Thank you as always!
would Randy Rod be ahead of Santana if available or does the “certainty” of Santana being the closer in PIT keep him at the top of this list?
Walker might be the closer in SF, might just get saves…Santana is the Pitt closer as far as I know
What were you favorite moves of the deadline Grey ? Any you liked in particular for fantasy/IRL purposes
Duran and Merrill Kelly prolly best for fantasy…IRL Padres improved the most…I also like who the Royals got, but not for this year
Colton Cowser or Ian Happ?
Everyone cleared out for Cowser to play everyday and Happ has looked awful
Cowser
Cowser over Tyler O?
Sure
“Look, us and the Dodgers got a little misunderstanding. See, they got the Golden Arches, we got the Golden Arcs. They got Freddie Freeman, we got Freddy Fermin. They got championship rings, we got onion rings.”
HAHA
Vlad Jr/Teoscar or Matt Chapman/Carroll/Adames ?
Corbin
Hey Grey!
Lol at Griffin Jax..i tried to play that angle. ugh. Steeeerike
10Tm H2H
Start Flaherty @PHI today?
Haha…I don’t trust Flaherty there
Man, we need a new ranking of closers after yesterday. Have no idea who’s closing on half the teams, and who is worth picking up!
Boy do i have a great thing for you https://razzball.com/bullpen-chart/
This goes to a January 2024 post. : (
Oh, CHECK THAT, just noticed that’s when it was begun, but it’s updated . . . that confused this guy. durrr
no problem
But speaking about that chart, am I the only one who sees Kody Funderburk’s name and starts hearing the guitar tap lead, hi-hat, and chant from the beginning of “Thunderstruck”? Dude has to use it as an entrance song for the month and several weeks that he is in MLB, right?
Hahaha
Ha ha
Crazy frenzy in the last few minutes of the deadline.
Can you rank ROS these SPs
Junk, Burrows, Houser, Bergert
Thanks
Depends on matchups, I guess, Burrows, Junk
Who gets more saves RoS — Robert Garcia or Randy Rodriguez?
Garcia, but I wanna say Randy-Rod
Dynasty, 6×6, ba, rbi, sb, ops, r, hr, w+qs, so, whip, era, s, ip
I am looking towards next year… which side do you prefer..
I give: Pages, Westburg, andrew vaughn, 3rd rd pick
For
I get: Ragans, Jordan Lawlar, 1st and 2nd rd picks
Pages
Hi,
Sands or Perkins as a gamble for SVs ?
Thanks
Jogons
Sands
Who do you like best for a bench bat OPS league:
Jesus Sanchez, L. Sosa, Cody Clemens
Any of these starters worth picking upnin a 16 team QS, K/9 league:
Berget, Sears, Jacob Lopez
Thanks
Jesus
Lopez
Thoughts on Dylan Beavers? Got the call apparently. O’s sent a ton of OFs packing and the kids been raking in AAA.
Not sure where you saw that. But he did not get the call. Elias said he hopes he debuts later this season
Some Reddit idiot started that. There should be some kind of warning about every post or thought ever made/expressed on Reddit so you aren’t exposed to the brain eating toxic stupidity.
Haha
He wasn’t called up
Dam(n)
Haha
it’s people playing the “if we ran BAL” game. like g.rod: should’ve been up 1-2 years earlier, and should’ve had his arm fixed months ago, or basallo should be up by now, or let stowers play, or d.carlson, seriously over anybody, many others the last few years.
12 team mixed keeper league, are you taking Seiya or Arozerena for future years?
Do you think Paredes is a top 100 guy next year?
Thanks!
Seiya
re: Paredes — Nah, close tho
Thanks!
No problem
Jakob Marsee, does he emerge as the winner from the Marlins trading Jesus Sanchez? Is he worth adding?
He wasn’t called up, was he?
“The Marlins are selecting the contract of outfielder Jakob Marsee, according to a report from Robert Murray of FanSided”
Nice! I like him for speed, and I doubt he hits enough for mixed leagues…like a poor man’s Simpson
Caminero/Mason Miller or Devers/Jhoan Duran/Strider ?
Been in 4th place all year, though saves are close can’t take a zero from Miller as much as I’d love to have Caminero over Devers
Miller
I am guess you think Outman will be platooned?
James Outman….hypothetically if he does get the full-time job, is he worth grabbing?
The guy who strikes out 40% of the time? I would hesitate about grabbing him in AL Only
i’m waiting in a 30’er for him to lose the green flag, rules in that spot prevent guys in minors from being waivered, and waivers is thurs, fri, sat nights etc at a certain time. but if a guy ain’t owned in a 30’er with long term contracts, nobody wants him. i guess it’s possible everybody’s just stupid. here i’m just trying to add since playing time, that’s it. yeah his K rates make gorman look like a high contact guy (even the mid 30’s last year)
Haha
Not so fast Grey! Dennis Lin, beat writer for Padres for The Athletic wrote last night:
“The Padres DFA’d Martín Maldonado and Trenton Brooks. They optioned the newly acquired Will Wagner to Triple A. According to team officials, they are expected to keep Robert Suarez as their primary closer, with
Mason Miller joining the league’s deepest group of setup men.”
So you (and I) didn’t lose Suarez as a closer!
Really? Wow, that’s legit crazy…First I’m seeing that
I know, right? 3rd overall prospect for middle relief help. That’s… something.
That is nuts! I’m honestly floored ha
Talk that Prelker wants to make Miller a starter next year, but still…the No.3 prospect in MLB…
miller himself was a very high ranked prospect back before OAK/SAC short termed themselves into suppressing his value by turning him into a 1-2 inning pitcher and just leaving it like that. he’s not old yet.
Who do you think ends with more saves ROS Grey, Mason Miller or Duran ?
Duran
So who’s going to benefit from all of these available PAs in the Baltimore outfield?
Cowser, O’Neill, Carlson
Lame
Twins actually made really good moves. Getting rid of $30 milly a year for the Correa contract was huge! They probably paid $50 mil to ditch him. Thank God! That was a horrific contract.
I guess if you have to sell
You’re convinced Miller’s replacing Suarez as closer?
When Padres acquired Scott last year they still kept Suarez as closer…
Beat writer for the Athletic posted last night that Padres team officials told him Suarez is the primary closer still.
Id think Suarez keeps the job unless he blows a couple. They have that whole cool lights show they do when he comes in, they can’t just toss that!
Ha
Yes, I see that now
Closer Monkey also says Suarez keeps his job. They also said Vest keeps his role (and Finnegan is 8th inning). So maybe the day wasn’r the disaster I feared.
Have we heard on Vest or Finnegan tho? Or is that speculation
Speculation (unfortunately).
No, not convinced at all, in fact I think the opposite now
Great move by the blue jays if Bieber pans out.
Is Taj Bradley a hold in dynasty or would you drop for an extra pitcher to play matchups/get saves.
Thanks!
Bailer Falter available, drop Taj for Bailey?
Sure
Dynasty league- I have Judge, springer, meadows, Jung and Kim on IR.
I need a bench bat to replace at least one.
Best bats available are O’Hearn, Burleson, Steer, which would you go with?
It’s a dynasty league, would you drop meadows?
Thanks
Burleson
Sure
Just saying
NYY must think Gil is going to give them what they need a 5-6 inning game each time out … otherwise why would they not grab a SPer .. NYY may have traded for the one closer to many
Ha, yeah
Maybe the backup plan is to have a bullpen game every 5th day
Better speculative options for saves ROS – Ferrer or Sands?
Sands
Nice write-up sir!
Do the Pirates ever make a good trade!? The A’s get a hual for Miller and RP are worth their weight in gold but somehow they Pirates still are sleeping.
Cubs were a huge disappointment. Hoyer always talk about value and the future but can never just live in the moment. He also refuses to acquire any pitcher who throws over 90 mph. You have PCA playing his arse off, traded for Tucker (who is basically a rental) and several other players are having a career year but hey we might win next year, oye! Say what you will about Preller but at least he tried every year.
Also good point about trying to predict prospects. Totally agree!
Anywho do you trust Fried to be a top 10 SP ROS, has been dealing with a blister but he has been good last few starts.
Yeah, exactly…Fried’s around top 15 maybe
Grey, how much do you feel Joe Ryan’s value ROS and next year (keeper league) is impacted with the Twins moves yesterday? Another owner is interested in him; maybe it’s time to move him? Thanks!
Not Grey obviously but my take is he’s about the same a fewer wins and then gets traded after the season. I also have him in a keeper so that’s my hope anyway.
Agree with Sweatpants
To me Taj Bradley could be the twins closer….if you call him a failed starter. He’d probably throw 100 out of the pen. Seems like he always has a couple good innings then falls apart. The twins traded their entire bullpen may as well give it a shot.
Man, Twins got a nice return for Jhoan.
Makes sense!
Yeah, maybe
Can you help me out with a concept I struggle with: dropping a player I traded for in a dynasty league.
I have Ranger Suarez and Kodai Senga on my team. Both of them I traded for in-season, and both of which I think are now on the downward slope. It’s a points league where efficiency matters. I traded for Senga months ago, and Suarez in June. Both have contracts that expire after this season, but if dropped, managers can claim them and they’d be happy on a three year contract.
I’m going for it this year so I care more about that than if they clear waivers.
A. Any words of advice as a general statement or rule? Or is it simply just something I need to do.
B. And do you think if both of them are droppable if they struggle in their next outings? My starters also include Kirby, Skubal, Sanchez, Woo….lots of RP to help accumulate innings.
A. no B. i do not think they’re droppable at all, unless this is an 8 team league
They’re streaming options, then? Only in the right matchups? Senga looks awful, but I’m trusting your judgment over mine?
Senga’s not an ace, but he shouldn’t be droppable in most leagues
i love how “pitcher X ain’t a sub 2 guy” ends up being translated to while it’s happening the regression into “this guy sucks”. people love to get anchored to whatever happened earlier, even if that’s weeks/months apart. here the injury stint might be blowing that up even more, the time gap is bigger. ranger at least somebody might read about his oft seen late season slumps (or tired etc), but how would we explain his last start, @ NYY then if we’re buying that narrative.
Ha, yeah
19 July efforts make the 100 Best Fantasy Starts list. Eury Perez is the only pitcher to appear twice. Miami and Seattle each earned 3 entries.

PARKS
9 gems occurred at Comerica in Detroit. Atlanta, Baltimore, and San Diego each hosted 6. PNC in Pittsburgh is the only park that has not seen a top 100 start.
TEAMS
The Reds are featured 9 times, led by Andrew Abbott with 3. Atlanta and Detroit have 7 entries apiece. The Rockies and Athletics fail to appear on the winning side.
OPPONENTS
Colorado leads the way on the losing side, though, with 9. Baltimore (8), Texas (7), Washington (6), and Cleveland (6) have also been shut down frequently. Somehow, the St Louis Cardinals do not show up as the opponent. The White Sox, Astros, Phillies, Mariners, and Jays have each been the victim once.
Great stuff, Vin!
Nice!
bieber ain’t out of those woods just yet, lest we forget the worst ban ever lately anyway (while active) in MLB: last year’s t.marcano, who supposedly bet on 231 MLB games while on PIT (can’t find what % of those were ON PIT games, but some at least were), however apparently did it while on IR the whole time so he couldn’t have really much if at all affected PIT games, and if you get lifetime bans for that, l.ortiz’s situation could be quite a bit worse (although this ain’t prison, they don’t give you say 3 lifetime bans for one person), maybe they take his house or something. did see somewhere that CLE was told nobody else is being investigated on CLE (hehehe, at least yet).
refresh weebay copping to every murder a cop could remember and some they couldn’t, then switch weebay to clase sitting in the chair complaining about the having to take cole slaw as his side, and the names being dropped net him back 10 games off his SUS per name dropped, watch how many names show up.
weebay’s wife/GF was not a great mom
Good actress to cause the abhorrent negativity the character had.
mob molls never are good moms. not knowing any though, she was probably quite realistic. just in general, how generations stay like that etc. when yr mother is telling you from birth to be like dad, pretty good chance you end up like dad.
The Wire was THE BEST
Ha, yeah
Begging you for periods and capital letters <<prayer hands emoji>>
Grey!!!!
Awesome!!
Rodney Dangerfield quote of the day for August 1, 2025
No respect that’s the story of my life. I said to my son, some day you’ll have kids of your own. He said some day you will too.
Cheers,
Ante
Awesome!! Love me some morning Rod!
Thanks!

Damn!
Damn, Grey! This entire edition of the notes is suitable for framing. Amazing stuff.
I second that.
Truly inspired lunacy of the first order. The Twins section alone made me laugh several times.
Thanks!
That was a crazy day! One of the best in recent years.
Indeed!
