Ryan O’Hearn (4-for-5, 10 RBIs and his 14th, 15th and 16th homer) did what they call in the business, The Swanson. The Swanson is when you’re box score is so full and you can’t eat another bite, then they hit another homer and, boy, now I’m not sure I can have dessert. The Swanson is when you have a month’s worth of stats in one game. The Swanson is when you remind people of your teammates and think, “Hey, where’s Mr. Excitement, Bryan Reynolds, in all the fun? He’s always so much fun! And excitement.” When people aren’t calling what Ryan O’Hearn did The Swanson, they have another name for it. Any guesses what that name is? I’ll give you a hint, it’s the bane of my existence. Ah yes! Ryan O’Hearn also did what some people call, Three Months of Vlad Jr. In One Game. Not bitter at all! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Konnor Griffin – Hit the IL with a torn tendon in his ring finger. And, boys and girls, this is why you don’t try to stick your hand up inside the crane arcade game trying to grab a Labubu. Not saying that’s what he did, that’s just how I injured myself. Reports are saying he won’t be back until September. Brutal news. Had him pretty high in my top 100 for the 2nd half (available on Patreon this week; on site next week), now I’ve removed him.
Paul Skenes – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.58. Don’t believe in drafting top starters, but I wouldn’t be opposed to trading for one if you can buy low on Skenes. Nothing looks off under the hood, except his ERA.
Rowdy Tellez – Signed with the Braves. He was reported very excited because he heard the Braves bring in a giant Cookie once a week to pitch for them.
James Wood – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 25th homer, hitting .270. Please let him hit 50 homers this year. It Wood be fantastic. See what I did there? If you missed, get checked for CTE.
Mike Burrows – Optioned to Sugar Land. He was optioned to an ABC dramedy?
Jose Altuve – 1-for-5 and his 10th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. Finally, my reverse jinx might actually be working in my favor! Altuve, ye of old man suckage, why did I draft you in so many leagues (because of the War Room, thanks for asking), please don’t go off. Oh no, Little Man! Too old! You are sucky! What a shame!
Tatsuya Imai – 3 2/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 6.06. Good news is he’ll speak the language when he’s sent back to Japan.
Trevor McDonald – 2 1/3 IP, 8 ER, ERA at 5.46. Might be the most bipolar starter. He goes from great start to “I know you shat my house” with no let-up off the accelerator.
Shohei Ohtani – 1-for-4 and his 20th homer, 2nd homer in two games, and pitched a gem wearing a Justin Wrobleski mask, 7 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.69. Wrobleski and EdRod: Awful stats that don’t matter, excellent stats that do matter.
Colt Keith – 1-for-2, 2 RBIs and his 7th homer. Keith, and his elite 13-homer power, lapping Tatis, won’t ever stop being wonderful. Never change, baseball, you wacky sport!
Tarik Skubal – 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.06. Was thinking after his first inning of three Ks, there is chance here he strikes out 27 guys. Way to raise expectations and ruin what was otherwise a fine start.
Josh Kuroda-Grauer – 3-for-4, hitting .462, and playing still after Jacob Wilson’s return. (JKG was at 2nd, Wilson at SS.) Pointing out a guy without any power, but is a neutral .300 hitter. That could be something you might be interested in. Look at me caring for you like a baby bird. Come here, sit in my pocket so I can feed you fantasy info. Metaphorically! Get out of my shirt pocket!
Ian Seymour – 5 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 hits, zero walks, 12 Ks, ERA at 4.11. Forget the freakin’ ERA! 12 Ks and zero walks is an auto-pickup. That’s a pass Go, collect $200 but spend that $200 in FAAB on the Seymour pickups.
Yandy Diaz – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 13th homer. Way to muscle it out, Yandy!
Ben Rice – 3-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 26th homer, 2nd homer in two games, 3rd this week. Rice-a-HRoni!
Will Warren – 4 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.15. I was devoted to the cause with Warren, but dropped him about a week or two ago. Here’s how you manage your teams: Drop Warren, pick up Seymour. Frank Viola!
Bryan Woo – 5 IP, 3 ER, 10 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.23. Bryan Meh.
Cole Young – 1-for-3 and his 10th homer, 3rd homer in eight games. Hot schmotato alert!
Dominic Canzone – 0-for-5, hitting .267, hitting third. M’s said they’re going to start Canzone every day, no matter the pitcher’s handedness. Don’t want to kick a gift manager in the mouth, but I told them to do this in December when I wrote a sleeper post for him. Why does it take MLB teams so much longer than the idiot typing these very words?
Owen Caissie – 1-for-2 and his 12th homer, 3rd homer in a week. Hot schmotato, but he’s also got the most “did he hire Joey Gallo as his own personal hitting coach” strikeout rate I’ve seen in some time.
Heriberto Hernandez – 1-for-2 and his 12th homer, three homers in two games, and three homers in the last four games. Don’t usually mention pinch-hit homers, which this was, but Heriberto is Hotschmotato.
Matthew Boyd – 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 4.31. Lowered his ERA from over 5 since I started saying he was a buy low. Okay, that was one start. But still!
Payton Tolle – 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.14. Appizzarently, he’s fine again. Carry on.
Ceddanne Rafaela – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 8th homer. There’s worst things than being valuable for fantasy and boring, but, Holy Cross, the Red Sox cornered that market.
Andruw Monasterio – 2-for-4 and a slam (4) and legs (2). Fun fact! Monasterio is a luchador that dresses as a masked monk. “Shh! I am Montaserio! The Masked Monk! But first taste my Trappist brew!”
Zack Wheeler – 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 hits, zero walks, 14 Ks, ERA at 2.28. Quick! Get Ken Burns, we need a 12-part doc about Wheeler’s arm and how it bounced back so incredibly.
Kyle Schwarber – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 31st homer. Now leads the majors in Schwarbombs. Also in homers.
Eugenio Suarez – 1-for-4 and his 9th homer, hitting .207. I need him “20 homers in the 2nd half” hot.
Andrew Abbott – 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 hits, zero walks, 8 Ks, ERA at 3.92. His starts are usually more boring than The Bear seasons (everything after the first), but this Abbott start actually isn’t terrible. Streamonator hates his next and I don’t love Abbott, in general, but worth a monocle at least after last night’s.
Byron Buxton – Hit the IL with a hip strain. Obviously not what you want to hear, but I get the sense the Twins are just giving him a rest and he’ll be “fine” soon after the break. Fine in scare quotes because it’s Buxton and he’s never safe from injuries.
Taj Bradley – 7 IP, 1 ER, 3 hits, zero walks, 10 Ks, ERA at 3.67. Taj Ma-ace is back! Or at least Taj-my respectable number three to four starter.
Joey Cantillo – 5 IP, 0 ER, 9 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.66. Here’s me starting Cantillo every time, “He’s gonna suck, he’s gonna suck, he’s gonna suck, he…didn’t suck, but also, is that start of his actually good?”
Jacob deGrom – 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.49. Curious to hear deGrom’s pregame speech to his teammates. Does he say, “Make sure you score exactly the same runs as the other team?”
Jose Soriano – 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.40. No chance he makes it into my top 100 for the 2nd half, but he could have a month-or-more run in him again. Gonna come down to–Boo! That’s his walks haunting him.
Robert Gasser – 7 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.15. Ludicrous. Someone piss test the Brewers’ pitching coaches!
Jordan Walker – 3-for-8, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 21st homer. At the mall at 7 AM, cruising past the Cinnabon with my three senior friends, “I am the power Walker!”
Ivan Herrera – 2-for-6 and his 11th homer. Herrera-Rocher of nougaty goodness!
Jacob Misiorowski – 7 IP, 3 ER, 3 hits, zero walks, 11 Ks, ERA at 1.62. Lots of hard contact early but settled in nicely. I’m reminded of Spencer Strider. For those under the age of four, congrats on your reading comprehension. Gaga-googoo? Yeah, totally! I’m saying I’m reminded of Strider because he was the best pitcher in the world for a year in 2022, and now he’s trying to find the juice. The juice is elusive! Pitching is incredibly hard. It’s why you shouldn’t pay for pitching. They’re fickle as heckfire. Blake Snell’s a great example. He’s a Cy Young winner every three years, then disappears. You think you’ve seen the best pitcher ever in The IO Update and the next you know the Cardinals are hitting him hard in the early innings. Still a superb start, I’m merely Cust kayin’.
Luis Lara – 1-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs, hit 2nd, as he was called up. About two weeks ago, Luis Lara received a multi-million-dollar stipend (called a contract, I believe) and I gave you a Luis Lara fantasy, going over exactly why you should pick him up. Mostly it came down to him being five-seven, which is also my height and if you’re taller than that, you’re weird. I’m sorry. Truth hurts, but it only hurts tall people. Rest of us can handle it. Because I’m a freakin’ giver, here’s the relevant bit, “He has 50-steal speed and makes excellent contact. Could be 15 K% in the majors with a promotion tomorrow, so he’s basically Brice Turang. Call him Basic Turang. Okay, maybe a little less power (prolly closer to 3-5 homers on the year), and he’s seven inches over five feet in the year 26 after 20, so he might hit one homer and .175 because he can’t make hard enough contact in the majors, but the speed will travel, literally.” And that’s me quoting me! This might be a temp call-up because the Brewers have eight games this week, and Lara is under contract, so they can send him down and it’s whatever.
Jorge Polanco – 1-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI as he was activated from the IL, hitting .183. JoPo doesn’t just sound like a state penitentiary, rostering him feels like being in one!
A.J. Ewing – 4-for-4, 4 runs, 3 RBIs and slam (6) and legs (9). I bet if you asked the Mets’ manager, Andy Green (had to google it), if there’s a reason he’s hitting Ewing leadoff and Benge now fifth, I bet he’d have zero reasons. Would be something like, “Have you seen our record? Who cares?”
Juan Soto – 1-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 20th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. Prayer hands emoji for Sexy Dr. Pepper to go 20/20 in the 2nd half.
Tyler Tolbert – 5-for-6, 4 runs, 2 RBIs and a slam (2) and legs (10), 2nd homer in two games and refuses to make outs, I think. Is Tyler Tolbert really 12 for his last 13? The guy whose name I briefly wrote as Tony Tolbert? He’s hitting better in the majors than he did in the minors. ACKSUALLY, Tolbert hit in 12 straight at-bats, tying the all-time record. Because of course! He tied Walt Dropo, who got his name because he was always in the outhouse. I feel like the little kid on nitrous after the dentist. Is this real life? Tyler Tolbert–Tony Tolbert? Or is it Tyler? He has 60-steal speed, but the Mets are like a protective cup bringing out the nuts in players.
pickup Kyle Leahy or Jack Flaherty (or both) ROS and drop any of Mackenzie Gore, Ryan Weathers, or Will Warren?
SON seems to like Manaea v KC tomorrow – does anyone else fancy him for that start?
Nah
10-team standard roto.
My roster:
C – Hicks, Rice
1B – Alonso
2B – Schmitt
3B – Muncy
SS – Otto
MI – Swanson
CI – Contreras
OF – Belli
OF – Ramos
OF – O’Hearn
OF – Soda
OF – Happ
U – Bell
Bench – B. Lee, Maikel, Carrigg
IL – J-Ram, Julio, Cruz
Was offered Elly for Julio AND Maikel. Which side based on my roster would you lean towards?
JRod
Which side – Melton or Hunter Brown ROS? Not sure if something is wrong with Brown or he just needs reps.
Brown
might’ve had that “j.jones is broken” from yesterday, chambered in the gun a bit early. to be fair sometimes it does take guys more than rest of this season left to get back after TJ’s.
Meh, we’ll see
Grey!
Jared Jones with a perfect 6 innings, 8ks so far. Of course, just like we drew it up.
Jones, Jax, Detmers, Trev Rogers- who are your top 2 in a 10 tm redraft QS league with innings per start being a category.
Thanks!
Detmers, Jax
For the love of Mike.
What’s good Grey? Vladdy Jr. HIT A HOME RUN! I feel like Karen’s everywhere *whilst clapping in syllable-esque rhythm*, “Oh my word, oh my word, oh my word:)”
Hi to Ted!
It’s unbelievable! Did it really happen? Ted says hi!
pressure’s a funny thing, when he did it it was like 7-0 or something in the 9th. in a road game too. off the maybe looked ok after recall (see that’s “recall” being used correctly, not like you see all sports writers use it when somebody is called up the FIRST TIME EVER) till fairly lately but still lost job/got demoted r.walker. to be fair it did happen in one of the hardest parks to hit HR’s at all.
Crazy ahh catcher question
Basallo or Jeffers(raking and 2 hr on rehab)
Jeffers
10tm H2H 6×6 OBP/QS Keep 4.
A couple of waiver and trade questions I could use an opinion on.
Thanks!
1. Walker 2. Mead 3. Both? Paredes, I guess…not sure why anyone would give you those guys for droppable players
Thank you. I figured I was overvaluing my guys. The Trade Analyzer has these values:
Lindor $22.30, Neto $20.00, Rafaela $13.50, Hoerner $7.20
Luzardo $27.50, McClanahan $7.00, Miller $6.90, Messik -$0.30
Who are the drops? Waiver pitchers are Sheehan, Lodolo, May, Kremer, R. Lopez, Sproat
Thanks again!
Or do I target Seymour, Detmers, Alcantara, Wrobleski, Rogers, Bibee?
These pitchers are better
I don’t know why you’re dropping these guys
I appreciate you taking the time to answer all of these questions.
C: Dingler
1B Stowers – now Walker
2B Rafaela
3B Paredes – now Mead
SS Lindor
OF Carroll
OF Tucker
OF Wood
UT Schwarber
BE Hoerner
BE Neto
SP Henderson
SP Shota
SP King
SP Roupp
SP Peralta
SP Handcock
SP Bradish
SP Drohan
SP Tolle
RP Megill
RP Pagan
I need pitching (im 5th or worse in every pitching category) so I was hoping to either trade one of my 2B and SS for arms or drop them to add pitchers from waivers.
Thank you.
i think yr going to have a problem getting any of those 4 SP’s for rafaela or hoerner if you are thinking a 1 for 1 deal on both, unless you already know otherwise. in which case nice.
I don’t know what you’re asking
Im not sure I know anymore….
Haha
Can only keep one….Troy Melton or Ian Seymour. Who you got?
Ian
Nice that it was someone that was going to get the chance to go for the no hitter. Cease matches the #13 start of Gavin Williams.
Dumb Heliot ruining fun
Haha. Probably better than the next hitter. Arraez already broke up a Cease no hitter in the 9th – in 2022.
Ha, yeah, someone mentioned while I was watching
Soder’s back! He was out through the ASB five minutes ago lol.
Haha, I know
Elsewhere, can’t say I’m happy to see Rice in the Home Run Derby. Hope he doesn’t emerge from it (ahem) fried.
Haha
two days in a row oaklamento tries like an NFL team to lie about the state of their players
mon: j.wilson not swinging a bat yet, tues is back
tue: soderstrom not close, wed is back
i guess we could suspect they’re just ran so badly whoever is in charge of relaying messages about the health of their players IR’d is like a week behind their actual updates, and the updates from mon and tue were like a week late each.
Haha
but in the NFL there’s rules/fines etc doing that on purpose, it doesn’t stop teams from doing it though, as the edge to be gained when you only play 17 times a season, and say you can get a team to waste time game planning for their opponent that weeks’ QB or RB or whoever not being there, you CAN probably gain a decent amount of equity doing it. MLB it seems odd to try that hard. i mean is j.wilson/soderstrom returning in series x vs series x + 1 or x + 2 (or later) really matter, way less than NFL for sure.
Gotcha
Just lost Endy Rodriguez as my second Catcher in an OBP/SLG league. How would you rank these options?
Carson Kelly
Austin Wells
Gary Sanchez
Henry Davis (Endy’s replacement I’m assuming?)
Kelly, Henry
Marsh or Canzone ROS?
Marsh
Grey, Do you think Nimmo is a good buy low candidate? His Savant page is red but the results haven’t been there.
Sure
@Grey: what hope do you have for acuna in the second half? naylor and schmitt for acuna?
I’d take Acuna
How confident are you starting Jake Bennett @ White Sox today?
I nearly streamed him, but chickened out
Yes very scary starting a guy with a 3 era and .9 whip
probably more about the SON’s -9.5 on bennett today, and WSOX being a top whatever ranked hitting team, at home (without looking what like 12 or so spots higher ranked than i’m sure 90%+ of everybody would’ve assumed preseason on their runs per game).
Hello again Master Baseball Lothario!
Is Detmers a drop for any of the following?
-Hancock
-G. Taylor
-Lambert
-Seymour
-Ray
-Montero
Also, who would be the runner up please.
My other starters are Ohtani, Ryan, Kirby, H. Brown, Rasmussen, Miller, Boyd, & Tolle.
Thanks!
Please excuse the Taylor addition (Doh)
Meh, I like Detmers — Seymour or Hancock have been solid
I know I’m a dummy, but who in the sam hill is LuGaJu?
Luis Garcia Jr.
Nevermind..Garcia of the Nats.
He is the son of LuGa
HAHA
He is the walrus.
haha
LuLu GaJu! I can’t think of a worse unforced roto error in all my years than when I dropped him on May 25 for Tommy Troy. I would be winning everything right now just if I had stood pat there.
i’ve owned l.garcia WAS for years in differing spots, and i could’ve did that, at the time wouldn’t have thought of it as an error at all. hindsight sees in different ways than present sight. esp in shallow spots where you really didn’t have to care if troy had junky playing time or not, just find another 2B etc.
go back like 4-5 years or so ago and anybody named l.garcia everybody would’ve been helped in having a nickname for, back then there were 4 luis garcia’s running around MLB at same time. a common enough name that having one now still might be useful, who knows how many more come around till the current lone one is done, he’s still pretty young.
There are currently 4 active players named Luis Garcia
But only one LuGaJu
Currently 8-7 in a redraft 10 team h2h points league with this roster. Can’t sleep at night. Where am I going wrong?
C – Adley Rutschman
1B – Pete Alonso
2B – Jose Altuve
3B – Manny Machado
SS – Elly De La Cruz
OF – Juan Soto
OF – Fernando Tatis Jr.
OF – Pete Crow-Armstrong
U – Michael Harris
Bench
1B – Josh Naylor
U – Maikel Garcia
IL
SS – Corey Seager
Pitchers
SP – Gerrit Cole
SP – Nathan Eovaldi
SP – Hunter Greene
SP – Drew Rasmussen
SP – Zack Wheeler
RP – Jhoan Duran
RP – Trevor Megill
Pitching Bench
SP – Michael Wacha
RP – Bryan Baker
SP/RP – Troy Melton
Pitching IL
SP – Blake Snell
Maikel, Wacha should not be owned, you shouldn’t start Greene until you see a good start, and you should trade Baker, Naylor and/or Harris for an upgrade at 2B or SP since you’re not playing Naylor or Baker
Aloha & Happy Be a Kid Again Day!
I’m looking to regain that childhood optimism but I’m continuing to have key players land on the IL… I only have 3 IL spots and 4 IL’d players (was 5 before Soderstrom got activated – woo hoo!).
You cutting anyone from the below list of just ride it out:
• JRam
• Maikel Garcia
• Buxton
• Vinnie P
Thanks as always and hope you have an amazing day being a kid again!
Aloha! You can lose Maikel
vinnie sounds likely back before sunday, might not have to drop anybody here.
Just lost Endy Rodriguez as my second Catcher in an OBP/SLG league. Who to replace him with?
Carson Kelly
Austin Wells
Gary Sanchez
Henry Davis (Endy’s replacement I’m assuming?)
Please rank them if possible
Hey Grey – still talking with the Wheeler owner about a trade. Here are the latest versions he offered up. Do you like Wheeler side in any of these, or hold? Any favorite package? Keeper value is nice but looking primarily for this-year production (wins, ratios, K, without giving up too much offense)
Thanks!
I’m fine sending LuGaJu and Gausman
20 team H2H 5×5, keep forever
A. Aaron Judge
B. Skubal
Judge
Happy middle of the week, Master Grey,
Thank you, that damn crane arcade game is screwing us up. We did add Seymour(does that rhyme with sour?), so we have that going for us🤙.
Cole Young or T Tolbert or Massey or Lara > Ward or Alexander?
Thank you again, you are really bringing the heat, literally, 104 tomorrow😢. Stay hydrated, need you for the second half, which isn’t a real half of the season😮!
CCC
Thanks, CCC! It doesn’t rhyme with sour…Young, Lara, Tolbert works for me
Stay hydrated!
Would you trade away Wyatt Langford for Aaron Judge & Grant Taylor?
Sure
Hey Grey, 12 TM 5×5 redraft 7 bench
Have a log jam of player I use at MI/CI and rotate in my OF5 spot but I need to be able to grab the “hot guy” and use him but never can because worried to drop someone LOL
Here is the carousel, would love to drop 1 for sure maybe 2 what do you think?
Braden Montgomery
Colt Emerson
Josh Jung
Caleb Durbin
Have Condon in NA spot so will have to drop someone for sure when he gets the call
Emerson is droppable
Honestly, they’re all droppable
Nice! Ha yeah I have Luis Lara and and Gelof now to rotate so I will just stop worrying, thanks Grey you are the best
No problem
Hey hey hey Mr. Grey!
So I decided to finally find out if I was the problem. Was able to grab Manny and so I dropped Eugenio. If he finally gets going, all 3 of you who’ve held on longer than I could are welcome.
Haha, thanks!
Hey Grey, assuming Ranger Suarez is fine/healthy post all star break, how would you
rank these SPs for the second half? Ranger, Gausman, Cavalli
Ranger, Cade
Hey Grey! Does this mean you’d actually drop Gausman for Cade in 12 teamers?
I’d prefer not to but I guess
O’Hearn was a sonofabench for me. Oof. At least I had Swanson for his outburst a few weeks ago!
Ooooooooof
Ouch, just ouch. I’ll think of this every time I leave stats on my bench and want to complain. Brutal.
@Grey: out of curiosity, how high did you have griffin (if you can share)? how high does he go next year in redrafts? top 50?
60
Hi Grey,
12 team roto redraft 5×5 OBP.
Need a drop for Logan Henderson coming back:
C – William Contreras
1B – J. Naylor
2B – LuGaJu
SS – Abrams
3B – Paredes
CF – Pages
OF – Soto
OF – Moniak
UTIL – Heliot Ramos, Esmerlyn
BN – Busch, Caissie, Caglianone
SP – Degrom, Joe Ryan, Eovaldi, Seymour, Jump, Mize, Cavalli, Reynoldo
RP – O’Brien, Latz, Webb
Thanks in advance.
Caissie
Hello Grey! Excellent write up.
Could be me, but “Three Months of Vlad Jr. in One Game” doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like a “Swanson”. Close though – HA!
Major milestones last night – Ryan O’Hearn and his 10 RBIs (he came up against a position player late and only singled – Bum!), Tolbert and his 12 straight hits, and Ohtani hit his 300th! And I had none of it – HA!
I added Heliot over Cedric the Mullins in our Yahoo 10 Team H2H Points League? Probably ok, right?
Thanks much Grey.
Haha
You did good
Caleb Durbon; Cole Young; or Royce Lewis?
Young
Would you trade Aranda for Sandy? Or Moniak for Sandy? Sandy has looked good for a solid run.
Sure, they’re fair, I’d send Aranda first
would you trade 14? Rodon who can be kept next year for Boyd who is not a keeper
Would I trade 14?
Hey Grey!
How worried are we about Vladdy? Back issues might be part of his struggles, so do we trust it to get healthy and back to normal or are you selling for .75 on the dollar? (If you can)
I’m in AL Only keeper league and considering dealing him for pieces to push for championship run!
Thanks sir!
Worried
Lara over Varsho?
Sure
Thinking of starting Jones (home ATL) and Roki (home COL) today, because I’m in a huge IP hole, and I do have a squad that can rack up 10 pts in Ks if I hit my 1,250 IP max.
OTOH, I’m dead last in ratios (4.11 / 1.28) with a possibility of reaching 5-6 points in each if things break right with a staff of Skubal, Miller, H. Brown, Henderson, Boyd, Alcantara, Snell, Jones, Sasaki.
I realize how speculative my question is–with Jones in a pitch count, there’s probably no Win potential–but Is starting Jones/Roki just plain dumb today?
Your take on damages today, scale of 1-10, with 10 being the worst? Sorry for the column inches. Hope this makes sense. Thanks!
I wouldn’t start either
Thanks, Grey
No problem
Wheeler earned his second entry on the 100 Best Fantasy Starts list. Philadelphia now makes 8 appearances. Bradley gave the Twins their 4th in the top 50:
07 Bailey Ober May 12 vs MIA
11 Cristopher Sanchez May 16 @PIT
22 Cristopher Sanchez May 5 vs ATH
29 Zack Wheeler Jul 7 @CIN
30 Jesus Luzardo Apr 28 vs SF
36 Mick Abel Apr 14 vs BOS
43 Taj Bradley Jul 7 vs CLE
45 Cristopher Sanchez Mar 26 vs TEX
49 Joe Ryan Jul 5 @NYY
80 Cristopher Sanchez Jun 30 vs PIT
92 Zack Wheeler May 17 @PIT
98 Jesus Luzardo Apr 4 @COL
Kinda surprised Wheeler’s wasn’t higher
It is the highest rank start where an earned run was allowed.
Ah, that makes sense! The earned run
That isn’t actually true. I looked at my rankings and it is the highest where a run is allowed. On the official list though, Yamamoto, Soriano, and Wrobleski are ahead. I guess I give more weight to the 14 strikeouts.
Interesting, I guess the baserunners are the difference?
Definitely a factor. I suppose there are more strikeouts so 5 extra strikeouts not as valuable as 3 fewer baserunners. These are the top 4 with 1 ER allowed:
20 Yoshinobu Yamamoto 8.33 IP/1 BR/7K/$230.5
25 Jose Soriano 8 IP/3 BR/10 K/$224
28 Justin Wrobleski 7 IP/1 BR/9 K/$223.1
29 Zack Wheeler 7 IP/4 BR/14 K/$222.5
Only $1.50 separating 25 to 29 of course, so pretty much the same.
Ah, yeah, super tight
Great stuff, no questions today, just saying thank you, I appreciate all you and your staff do
Thanks!
Should I add Lara and drop Dubon, Antonacci or Tolbert?
Meh, can try Dubon
In need of RBI’s and Runds in a 10t h2h redraft-Bell, Benge, Mead or Carrigg
Thank you
Please Busch to the group
Mead
good morning Grey would you trade 14$ Rodon( keeper for next year for Boyd ( not a keeper) I am in first place Thx
Hey Grey, I’m in a 10 team R, HR, RBI, SB, OBP league.
Drop happ for canzone or carrigg?
Meh
Pat Murphy: “Garrett Mitchell finally got white hot and he is carrying our offense. I have a tremendous idea, lets call up this Lara kid right now and give Mitchell some rest days.”
Haha
Ha ha!
I need a Win and not to have my ratios blown up:
Ray vs COL 7/9
Sasaki vs COL 7/8
Melton vs DET 7/8
Gore vs LAA 7/8
Scott vs KC 7/8
Weathers @ WSH 7/10
Who to pick up?

SV/H formatt pick 2 from

Not Cano
Is that you, Tolbert? Look, I am hung over, my knees are killing me and if you’re gonna pull this shit, at least you can say you’re from the Yankees.
HAHA
Thought it was just me who thought that
Haha
drop adell for benge?
Meh
I am trying to upgrade my SP in a 10-team H2H. Which side are you taking in these offers?
1. It’s fair….2. Wheeler
What about Gunnar or CJ Abrams for Wheeler?
Thank you, sir!
Gunnar
I get a little confused here… meaning you’d give Gunnar or you’d want Gunnar over Wheeler?
CJ, Wheeler, Gunnar is their rank
Regarding Lara, why wouldn’t the Brewers use him instead of Frelick? He can’t be any worse, can he?
Can’t be
I have Griffin as a keeper for next year but since he’s basically done for the year considering moving him to go for it this year. What range of players would he be in the top 100 next year?
Top 50
Merrill and Peters or Happ and G Mitchell? Close?
Tristan Peters? What is this, AL Only? That side, it’s fair
Hi,
Based on your previous answer, in a 12 teams dynasty :
Would you give Soderstrom and Bazzana for Naylor and Keaschall ?
Thanks
Jogon
No
C.Carrigg or D.Crews ROS? (specifically for sb without sacrificing counting stats)
Carrigg
10 team 5×5 OBP.
Ramos, Heiberto, Garrett Mitchell over Bleday/Adell? Both are just ice cold.
Seymour over Henderson or Hancock?
Ramos, Bleday
Hancock’s been fine
ok. Seymour over Henderson? Sorry to be the follow up guy.
Yes
Drop Reynaldo Lopez or Flaherty for Ian Seymour?
Flaherty
Hey grey and all
Jazz (1) and Jordan Walker (27) or
Ketel (1) and JRod (4).
Which side you got?
JRod
Hey Grey, ROS Delauter or Ewing?
Ewing
Master Grey Lothario!
Keeper question. Hitting is great, pitching meh. After this year I will lose either Konnor or Jordan Walker (my choice). What do you think about flipping J-Walk for Skenes? Helps pitching now and lets me keep Konnor. Thoughts?
Works for me
Hola,
My team is in the crapper and i am looking for trades for next year(as much as that pains me to do).
The 2 best guys available to me are PCA and Judge.
Judge seems like the obvious, marquee name. But PCA has backed up his breakout season with another outstanding year.
Who would you target for next year?
All and any opinions are welcome. Thanks in adavnce.
If this is a keeper or dynasty it would be PCA.
PCA

Hey Hey Grey!!!
So the bot lurrrrrves two starts today with guys that are available to me: Gore v LAA (56.9) and McClanahan v NYY (42.3). How does your human intelligence feel about these starts??
LURVEYAS!!
Both work for me — lurves!
How is Bux still on the Twins? I know what he always says, but go win a Chip as a DH. Stop running into walls. Actually, just stop running. So I have JRod and Bux out and am playing a man down in my H2H league. I flipped Freeman and Bleday for Soto then grabbed C Walker off the WW which was the highest owned player to be available all year. LFG! Here’s the team post All Star break (fingers crossed).
1. What areas of concern have you given this is a 12 teamer with ten hitting cats and nine pitching. I punt holds unless my opponent is doing the same. Once the playoffs start I picked up at least one specialist.
2. Maybe also light on SBs? Is Merrill a good trade target? His owner is trigger happy.
Basallo
Harper, Machado, C Watson
Trea (been better since you said to sell… thank you!) Otto, B Lowe
Soto, JRod, J Walker, Bux, Happ
Util Schwarber
Wheeler, Cease, Ryan, Meyer, Eovaldi, Seymour, Melton
Bednar, Megill, Baker, L Varland
Thanks. Two ideas then thinking it may be time to sell high on Melton. What do you think on both?
1. My B Lowe and Melton for his Hoerner and then pickup one of R Lopez, Lodolo, Sproat or Drohan
2. My Happ and G Mitchell for his Merrill and Dominguez.
Ten hitting cats and could use SBs while I usually punt strikeouts
1. no 2 works for me
Ok. His response was to offer Merrill for Melton and G Mitchell (who I am cutting once JRod clears protocol). Good or ?
Good
Thanks. Mitchell was essentially my cut when JRod returns so getting Merrill for Melton sounded fine. Have a good one
Nice!
Good morning. Originally had O’Hearn on bench in 1 league yesterday, boy am I glad that I ended up starting him.
Redraft, 12 team, standard 5×5 Roto:
Thanks.
Ha, nice 1. Suarez, Boyd, Tolle, Kirby 2. Fairbanks
Would you trade Sonny Gray for Neto. Thanks Grey
Yes
I should have known that when I saw Griffin get compared to Trout…the injuries would be a factor too. Dumb me.
Ha
Grey,
Not a fan of openers, but would like to see the Rangers try it for deGrom starts. He’s given up 19er in the 1st inning this year, and a total of 18er in innings 2-6. He has a 9.50 era in the 1st and a 1.95 era innings 2-6.
Yeah, true
Hi,
Are Naylor or Hoerner good buy-lows ?
Do you see any obvious Buy-Low players at this point ?
Thanks
Jogon
Naylor, Boyd, Machado
2B has been a fickle position for me this season. Had Bazzana for a long while, dropped him for a recently released Altuve last week, and he’s starting to show signs of life as you mentioned. Cole Young and Zack Gelof are still out there on waivers, and I like them both too, so who do I go with for this week?
Young
No mention of the Woo-Suk-Go trade? There’s something there. Not with the pitcher, but the name!
I didn’t see it tbh
That was my nickname in high school.
Don’t you dare look into why Wheeler’s arm bounced back.
At least not until after the season.
Ha
Grey, just when I think you’re running out of awesome, obscure pop culture and/or baseball references, you pull out the ol’ Frank Viola! Yay! But then you misspell his last name, so your younger readers who never heard of him will think to themselves, “Why did Grey just randomly shout the name Frank Voyle-ah?” D’oh!
Ha, my bad
Happy Wednesday good people at Razzball! Is it too early to give up on Colt Emerson in redraft leagues? And could you please rank the top 2 hitters to have the best second half out of Colt Emerson , Heliot Ramos, Luke Keaschall, Curtis Mead, Bryce Eldridge, and Cedanne Rafeala? Thank you
Please add Aj Ewing , and Lara for the question above too.. all apologies… Coffee kicked in.
Ramos, Mead, Ewing
not too early
Ramos, Mead
Great stuff as always, Grey!
Thanks!
