Yesterday, Ronald Acuña Jr. went 1-for-3, 4 RBIs with a slam (3) and double legs (9, 10), hitting .238. The homer was a grand slam, and his 1st home run since April 24th. Got this text yesterday from my buddy and fantasy baseball ‘pert, Mike Gianella, “One healthy year for 2021-25, his ’22 and ’24 were nothing special. Yet, he somehow avoids all the narratives some other players get tagged with. Since 2019, Corey Seager and Carlos Correa have each played more games than Acuña.” A brutal truth bomb to receive. I don’t like truth bombs. I always forget if it’s the blue or the green wires you have to clip to diffuse them. It was the 2023 year that has carried Ronald Acuna Jr.’s perception. The assumption, I imagine, is if a guy can go 149/41/106/.337/73, he’s capable of too much goodness to let fall in drafts. Even if he sniffs those numbers, he’s worth the draft spot. Well, if you make an assumption, it makes an ass out of someone with consumption. To say, he’s been struggling is the understatement of the year, just beating out, “The Michael Jackson movie left out a few things.” Here’s where he was on the Player Rater, before yesterday:
That’s hideous. His Statcast page is demoralizing. Worst exit velocity of his career. Making contact, just not great contact. He looks a lot more like a 20/25/.270 hitter than anything remotely near what he was once, unless he can turn this whole thing around, but maybe when Tildaddy tells you who he is, believe him. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Michael Harris II – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 13th homer, 2nd homer in three games, hitting .301. Honestly, I’d love to hear a cogent reason to bat Megahertz sixth and Dubon 2nd. Ain’t to protect Riley, he can’t be protected, and it’s not to help the bottom of the order, there’s no helping them.
Ozzie Albies – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 9th homer, hitting .276. Been a pretty miserable month fo Albies (.200-ish, 2 HRs, zero steals). Hopefully, he’s more April power showers and less May wilting flowers.
Chris Sale – 5 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 2.01. An ERA over 2? What a bum!
Payton Tolle – 4 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 2.61. He was lifted after 94 pitches even though he looks like he’s old enough to have four grandkids and can remember when pitchers threw 130 pitches, and not just when Dusty Baker was the manager.
Heston Kjerstad – Activated from the IL and optioned to the minors. Orioles have developed one hitter since 2000 and it’s Machado, who they let go ten years ago. Don’t worry, they haven’t developed any arms either. Don’t say Gausman, they gave him away, then he was DFA’d before he developed with the Giants.
Chris Bassitt – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 5.06. One thing I always say about Bassitt…[pulls straw out of mouth]…That dog’ll hunt.
Coby Mayo – 1-for-2 and 6th homer. How’s this for a home run call: Mayochup, the Ch is silent! Needs works, huh?
Andres Gimenez – 1-for-4 and his 6th homer. Tatis has zero! I’m dying, mother. Please someone poke Tatis in the ribs when he’s swinging so he swings with an uppercut!
Patrick Corbin – 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.65. I like how crazy pitching is. Makes zero sense. Like boogie boarding on the back of a great white shark. “Man, this is fun!” Occasionally, “Oh, wow, he’s going under and going to kill me, this is not fun!”
Jared Jones – Carmen Mlodzinski is headed to the pen. Mlod begins, “Dearest Mlartha, I’ve received word that I won’t be starting anymore with the return of Jared Jones. This is upsetting to me and I have chosen to share my discontent with you, even though, being a female, you’re not supposed to be reading. You were supposed to be learning how to care for babies and care for my bruises, ego and whatnot. If you are having someone else read you this, it better not be that butter churner salesman with his leering eyes. What’s his name, Bruce? Bruce, if you’re reading this, you better not be there snogging my wife! Anyway, I sign off for now. Hopefully, I can replace Bubba Chandler in the rotation soon. Like Bruce is replacing me! That bastard!” So, LL Donkey said Jared Jones will make his season debut tonight. I would roster him in all leagues, so take what I’m about to say with a grain of salt. He had a 4.14 ERA in 121 2/3 IP in his MLB career with a 9.8 K/9, 2.9 BB/9. I keep thinking about Jared Jones being an ace already, and he has that possibility, but his projections don’t say that nor does any of his previous MLB stats. I do wish I had him though, so I bet you could sell him if you have him stashed. Sell him like Bruce sells butter churners.
Esmerlyn Valdez – Optioned to the minors. I heard this news and I began to sob uncontrollably, then I heard a little voice in my head said, “He’ll be back and he only cost you $1 in FAAB,” and I told that little voice, “It’s not about the FAAB! I really liked him!” Then the little voice said, “Really?” And I said, not that convincingly, “Yeah.”
Konnor Griffin – Day to day with a forearm strain. Hope they don’t ask him to throw too many sliders.
Paul Skenes – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 3.03. He’s no Patrick Corbin!
Bryan Reynolds – 2-for-3 and his 5th homer. No one is more fun to roster! Bryan “Barrel Of Ahhs” Reynolds!
Colin Rea – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.70. I promise you, it’s not always on the page, but I research every guy. Most guys who are Colin Rea-like just don’t warrant much discussion, so–
Ian Happ – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer, hitting .225, and two homers in two games. It’s my Happ’ening and it’s freaking me out!
Davis Martin – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.00. He has the 15th highest O-Swing% and the 12th lowest O-Contact%. Put it into layman’s terms, he’s getting the 15th most hitters to Chase and only 11 pitchers cause hitters to miss more pitches they’re chasing. He sits between Skenes and Gavin Williams. All 15 pitchers with that sorta Chase rate are solid. Wait, it gets better! He’s got the 15th best Swinging Strike rate, only person in those 15 that’s even close to iffy is Eury, and he’s more just a head case issue. Finally, and also excellent: Martin has the 20th lowest Contact%, but the 17th best Swing%. So, hitters are like, “Yeah, I can hit that,” and Davis is like, “No, you can’t.” All of this is to say, Davis Martin graduates (to solid number two)! Davis Martin graduates (to solid number two)!
Isaac Paredes – 1-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 6th homer. This month he has seven RBIs, and has three homers, hitting around .225. At this point, it’s me, Ethel Merman and maybe his mom for the only people who still believe in a good Paredes.
Jeremy Pena – 2-for-4 and his 2nd homer. That’s in 20 games. He’s a 16-homer hitter in 160 games. So, rough math, every ten games a home run, carry the zero, there’s no zero, where’s the stupid zero, and that’s the right pace he’s on.
Spencer Arrighetti – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 1.34. Putting Eovaldi should be better in one hand; Arrighetti should be worse in the other hand, and I have nothing in either hand because you can’t hold statements in hands.
Nathan Eovaldi – 7 IP, 5 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.93. Bleh. I’ll be honest with you, I can do without the garbage starts from Eovaldi. It used to be great start or injured. Can we get back to that?
Josh Jung – 2-for-3 and his 6th homer, hitting .307. Went to the Player Rater to see where Jung was for 3rd basemen, because it’s a poor position and I figured he’d be pretty high for them, and I was wrong. It’s fine, but when you’re behind Arenado, I feel like you’re doing something wrong, unless you’re Cole Trickle drafting.
Jose Quintana – Hit the IL with an elbow strain. Brutal blow to the Rockies. The Vegas line for Rockies wins moved from 56 to 55.8.
Simeon Woods Richardson – 2 2/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 7.74. He replaced a late scratch Kendry Rojas (elbow soreness), and the Twins were definitely not out of the Woods.
Grayson Rodriguez – 5 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 7.53. I’m rooting for him (to get traded to a team that can help him recover to his former glory), but I wouldn’t even Streamonator him, until I saw a few more decent starts.
Wenceel Perez – 2-for-3 and his 4th homer, and his 2nd homer in three games. Won’t be in this afternoon’s Buy column, but looks like a hot schmotato.
Kenley Jansen – Hit the IL with pelvic inflammation. I got that once doing The Worm. Grab Kyle Finnegan.
Jack Flaherty – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 5.81. Yeah, how could he shut down the Angels? Impossible task! They have Adam Frazier, Wade Meckler, Sebastian Rivero, Donovan Walton, Justin Ruggiano, okay, the last one is a lie, but you had no idea. Flaherty couldn’t lock in, if he were in an escape room.
Ryan Ward – With Teoscar hitting the IL, the Dodgers called Ryan Ward. To make this go down a little easier, I will call him Ryan Ward III. I wonder if MLB front office people, scouts or players have this reaction that I have: I look at a player being called up and see they’re 28 and say to myself, “I just wasted fifteen seconds researching this guy when I could’ve been researching new boba places in my neighborhood. I wonder if my colon is filled with 40 pounds of undigested boba. That would be so fun for an autopsy. Do other people have these thoughts?” So, Ward went 36/16/.290 last year in Triple-A, and I’ve said this before but it’s worth repeating because it’s a short schedule day and I’m like a student assigned a 2,000-word essay when they haven’t studied and what I always say is: No one should look that good in the minors. No one should go 30/30, no one should get a 35/15 season and no one should be proud of that. It means the club does not think you’re really talented, but they think you’re hitting that well because you’re basically Danny Almonte. You’re against 12-year-olds when you’re a 17-year-old in Little League with a fake birth certificate.

THERE’S A NEW POST FOR FOLLOWUPS FOR ME
Grey
I have to drop 1
Okamoto or Varsho
Quick follow up questions:
-you would drop Taylor for Dominquez?
-you would drop EdCab before dropping Cantillo to pick up Burke?
Thanks!
In a 6×6 Dynasty League (OBP), would you trade Riley Greene for Hunter Greene?
I know the 4-6 SPs I currently have aren’t going to help me see playoffs with Gallen, Jax, Detmers, Holmes, (IL Henderson, Abel)
My hitters are struggling too…. Do I send Jose Ramirez or Machado or Maikel or Simpson, or Bleday, or Soderstrom or Pasquatch for another top SP or hold and stream away2-3 spots?
Simpson or Bleday or Soder or Pasquatch aren’t getting you a top SP
I get it… just down in the SO dumps
Would like to see Gray Rod with the NYY … right now they could hide him and let him get strong
Yeah
Love Fridays! Bryan Abreu and Yoendrys Gomez starting to see some high leverage work, both pitched clean 9th’s last night, but really need saves.12 team, 5X5. Stick with them or trade for an established arm?
Are they going to get you anything in a trade?
Would Crochet be too much for Aroldis?
12 team redraft h/h points
Trade Acuna for O Cruz
Are you crazy?
Meh
12 team redraft h/h points
Would you trade … Acuna for Trout
Quit playing.
Meh
Hey Grey,
-Currently have 5 SPs on the IL (Henderson, Cabrera, Bubic, Woodruff, Burnes) as well as Mize being day to day and possibly/likely missing at least 1 start (allowed 3 IL spots). Would you drop any of these IL guys, and/or Cantillo, and/or DeLauter for any of the following: Crow, Burke, McDonald (will he even stay in the rotation?), M. Perez, Corbin, Vasquez? It can be 1 move or multiple moves…could also ride out what I got.
-Kilian, Taylor, S. Dominquez…please rank.
Thanks!
Are you falling behind in stats with all those IL guys? I don’t know your situation…Seems like a lot of IL…EdCab for Burke
Seranthony, Kilian
Quick follow up questions:
-you would drop Taylor for Dominquez?
-you would drop EdCab before dropping Cantillo to pick up Burke?
Thanks!
I’ve been offered JoRam and Lugo for J. Walker and Hunter Brown. I love JoRam, but J Walker may go the distance and I could use the SP if H. Brown comes back as himself (a big IF). What do you think? Thanks!
Hold
Grey, someone waived Hader and I ended up picking him up and putting him on my IL. Once activated, would you get rid of Varland for him? Varland has been fantastic, but not exactly getting a ton of saves with Toronto.
A healthy Hader > Varland
All things being equal would you rather have Josh Jung or Nelson Emerson for
1. ROS
2. Next four years.
Thanks much, Grey.
nelson emerson?
Sorry. Old hockey guy. LOL. Emerson Hancock.
I’d take Jung, but it’s fair, could go either way
Here’s what I wanted to ask.
All things being equal would you rather have Josh Jung or Emerson Hancock for
1. ROS
2. Next four years.
Bat > arm
Please rank ROS: Davis Martin, Strider, Bradish, Michael King, Luzardo
Martin, Strider, King, Luz
So just adding a little perspective to the discussion below about benching underperforming players. Last year only 3 players with a qualifying number of at bats finished the season with a batting average below .220 (O. Cruz, McMahon, Volpe). On May 28 last year there were 24 players with averages below .220. Today there are 38 qualified players with averages below .220.
Tells me two things. First, offense picks up when the weather gets warm, which we all know. Second, offense is even worse this year than last, which we know because the league batting average is the lowest it’s ever been at this point in a season.
So what that tells me is that when you’re considering if a player is underperforming or not, there’s a tendency to use what you expect for that player over a full season. But you need to factor in that there are a lot of players underperforming season long expectations at this point in any season because production goes up later in the year.
And, you also need to factor in that this year offense is down, so your players off to slow starts have plenty of company with guys on other people’s teams, and the players you might put in to spell these other guys are likely to see numbers deflated by the overall offense environment.
All you have to do is read the comments in here every day to realize that pretty much everybody has a player or two who are crappin it up.
Pasketti, Machado and Tatis have absolutely killed me…
Actually benching Pasquatch for the 1st time Monday. Career week incoming!
Yeah, I agree with this, in general…it’s when you get to the specifics it becomes hard to justify holding certain guys who expecting a big turnaround…
Like I said below, it is really hard. Especially because you’re just pissed off at these guys and it’s like, get the eff off my team. We’re definitely at that part of the season where skill set measurements have become more solid. I think the note of caution here, especially when deciding to cut somebody, is, are you really, really sure. How much is emotion clouding your judgement. On the math side of the equation there are some compelling reasons to be super patient.
Yeah, I’m not cutting them, I’m merely saying if you can bench Maikel and play someone decent, it’s not a bad play until Maikel does something…Gunnar or Tatis? These guys I’m not removing from my lineup, for better or worse
Not starting Jared Jones tonight to be safe. He is the only injured pitcher I stashed (post draft). He had an internal brace procedure which in theory is a quicker recovery than TJ. Why do i feel like I am gojng to get “Sandy” kind of results with Jones? Meanwhile, guys I stayed away from wheeler (thoracic outlet, come on) and Cole (higher draft cost) all have pitched great after injury.
Activersion
Cole wasn’t that high in draft cost
In my league he was much higher than adp
Acuna has been dealing with some nagging injuries all year no? Quad/Hamstring? Bruised Thumb? Hit on the Hand as well? Seems to be health is the cog. He started out decent, then got hurt and hasnt gotten back up to steam.
Can we talk for a second about why SD hitters are all kind trash this year? Merrill, Manny, Tatis etc.
Maybe its because the Org thought it be smart to hire career 232 hitter Steven Souza Jr as hitting coach. Get him the F out of that role, and get someone legit in there and watch them all turn it around. SERIOUSLY who signed off on that?
Shame that every time Acuna gets hot, he gets hurt again…I hear ya on the Padres, they’re all miserable…Souza is their hitting coach? Ha, I did not know that, that is funny
I had no idea until last night when I ripped a couple bongs hits and was like COUGH WHY IS TATIS STILL CHEEKS, and I looked into it.
Talk about a guy living off one 30 HR year…. OOOOOFA
Oofa
I suspect it has a lot to do with Souza being the hitting coach…looks like a midseason firing if I was the GM
Saves only league – Drop 1.
Rico Garcia (committee?). And Balt if-fy at best.
Lucas Erceg (closer now but marginal tenure). And KC if-fy at best.
Garcia
Can’t wait for the regression fairies to find Arrighetti. So tired of my guys always underforming their peripherals. I had to watch my guy, Eovaldi, give up 5 ER last night while facing Arrighetti, who basically has a 5.00 SIERA and xFIP but somehow only allowed 1 run. Brutal.
Haha, I know
Hi Grey,
Thanks for the article.
Funny reading the paragraph of Jung and Arenado.
14 team league with 2 UTL and BB. Keeper league
Curently have 3b Arenado. no MI or CI.
Would yoy trade away Olson for Alonso and Jung?
Arenado would be my 2nd UTL.
Thanks,
Chris
It’s fair, I’d hold
SAGNOF
Currently rostering
M.Miller
Seranthony
Erceg
T.Scott
Available FA
K.Yates
C.Killian
Thinking of losing Erceg for one of these 2…you agree? If so Kilian over Yates?
(Erceg has been bad and strahm back Saturday id think someone else gets looks sooner than later)
Erceg for Kilian works for me
Temps are going to hit the 90s in Sacramento next week and sleepy bear Tyler Soderstrom is maybe waking up from hibernation?
Hope so!
unfortunately they are on the road all week, but maybe the following week the non-Kurtz A’s start hitting (looking at you Rooker…)
I wonder if his oblique hasn’t healed. I dunno why they’d play him hurting with their surplus of hitters, but what do I know? I hope he’s ready for his close up. With the sun.
edit- I see this has already been addressed by Grey.
On the offensive side of things this year, it seems like 80-90% of of hitters that were supposed to be integral are having very slow starts. Then you have some guys who apparently spent the offseason bathing off the southern coast of St. Bart’s with Spider Monkeys and tripping acid which changed their whole perspective like Christian Walker, Jordan Walker, and Megahertz for example.
If you are lucky a few of these guys you’re probably in or around first at least on the offensive side of things. The rest of us are lighting votive candles to Saint J.D. the Patron Saint of Launch Angles and Back Spin.
HAHA, I have Tatis candles all around my house, don’t care what the fire dept. says about a fire risk
Ha! I don’t even own Tatis anywhere, so I guess I should be rooting against him by default, but damn do I feel bad for everyone that drafted him. I mean what the hell? We’re a third of the way through the season and this schmendrick can’t run into 1, just 1, hanging middle middle slider and tank it.
Woof.
It’s incredible how bad he’s been
I’ve had him on my bench not even the walks this year or RBIS
I know, brutal
What I still don’t understand is how a superstar player can’t review some damn tape and adjust to try hitting for a better launch angle. Metrics seem to indicate Tatis is healthy…
Blame Souza
Master are we starting imanaga at st louis?
Yes
McLean (Miami), Bradley (@Pitt), J Jones (Minn), and Ashcraft (Minn).
Which 3 would you start? Thanks!
Not Jones
I love how I spent the past few years being Brent Rooker truther due to the swing and miss in his game. He goes on to show consistent, significant improvement in that area during that span.
I admitted what I thought was the error of my assessment this year and bought multiple shares only for him to post his worst contact percentage in his career during his first 40 or so games. FFS.
I wouldn’t be shocked to hear he’s hurt
Or nursing something
Yeah, he seemed to come back from that oblique strain awful quick.
Yeah, exactly
Hey Grey – Happy Friday!
With J.Jones coming off the IL, I have a surplus of starting options for the rest of the week. Which TWO should I sit out of the following:
J.Jones vs MIN
M.King @ WSH
D. Rasmussen vs LAA
T. Yesavage @ BAL
B. Brown @ STL
B. Ashcraft vs MIN
12-team H2H league, 1.5 / IP, .8 / K, -.5 / BB
I’m thinking of sitting Jones since it’s his first start since ’24, and either Brown or King.
What say you?
Jones, King
Roman Anthony. Have you saured at all on him?
Production this year?
Still an uber prospect dynaysty player to for next season and beyond?
https://razzball.com/roman-anthony-2026-fantasy-schmohawk/
10-Tm, NL, H2H, OBP
Wondering if I should pick up Baez with Nootbaar coming back and dropping Carrigg. I kind of want both Baez and Carrigg since we don’t know who will be called up first.
My other bench spot is Andujar, but based on his last month, it should be Dansby. I mix and match Ewing, Dansby, Nuñez, and Andujar for SS/INF/Util depending on matchups, but would be glad to add Baez or Carrigg in the mix somehow if either came up.
SP: Peralta, Roupp, Brown, Jones, Griffin, Nelson, Patrick
RP: Kilian, Weaver
NA: T. White
IL: Diaz, Cabrera
Who (batter or pitcher),if any, would you drop to stash Baez alongside Carrigg? Or, would you stash Baez over Carrigg?
Thanks!
I don’t think either are close, maybe Carigg
Thanks! Yeah, it’s a crapshoot for sure. I wish we could get a look at Thomas White soon as he’s also burning a hole there. Would like to stream Coleman Crowe for his next two starts, but not sure who to drop. Limited moves league.
yeah, I hear ya
Grey I’m rebuilding in a 12 teamer … keep 10 & 12 farm…. 1st place team just offered me Vlad, Bryce Rainier, and Eduardo Quintero for Rice …. Good deal or hold ?
Do Rainier or EdQui move the needle in your league? Seems like a fair deal
ROS where do you rank kyle harrison, shota, miguel Varagas?
That rank
Who would you rather have as your closer? Hader or Palencia?
Palencia
Hey Grey,
I’m in a 10 team Roto. Jake Bauers is available on waivers. Worth it to pick him up and drop Ildemaro Vargas? Vargas has better numbers so far but his baseball savant page makes it look pretty lucky
Yes
Grey,
We have a start limit weekly in a head to head categories league (W/QS/K/WHIP/ERA for pitching categories). I’m slated to hit 11 out of 12 starts now and have to choose between Troy Melton or Jared Jones for that 12th start. Who would you go with? Melton @ White Sox, Jones vs Twins. Would you play it safe with the guy who you already saw pitch in the bigs or go with someone on more of a pitch count but better matchup?
Melton of course just returned from injury himself with a successful start and Jones you wrote about today just coming back.
Flip a coin? I guess Jones
Yeah I was struggling with it quite a bit with the situations being pretty similar. Does feel like a coin flip.
Yeah
I find that solid #2s are preferable to the alternative.
Haha
Hey Grey!
Having trouble with weekly (8wk) player Rater (hitters).
Down? Ping Rudy?
Thanks
I will ping him
Ewing still not showing in the trade analyzer.
I’ll ping Rudy
Emerson Hancock for Alec Burleson – fair trade offer?
Fair
Thanks, Grey. Happy weekend!
No problem
What’s your outlook on Chourio? Acquire him now or are you worried?
Acquire
Good to hear. So far Avg & SBs solid, but only 1 HR.
Yeah
Hi Grey,
ReYahoo Points-10 team league
I always appreciate your input.
I was thinking of trading for Casey Schmitt. I currently have Angel Martinez and Gelof
1. Would you trade for Schmitt?
2. How would you rank him at 2B for ROS?
I was thinking of three trades. Please tell me which one or two that you would offer or just stay pat.
3. I would offer Freddie Freeman plus Zebby Matthews to get Kurtz
4. I would offer Angel Martinez plus Jackson Merrill to get Casey Schmitt.
5. I would offer Freeman plus Martinez plus Merrill plus Matthews to get Schmitt and Murtz
Thank you!
Hope you can get Kurtz man, but I imagine it’d be a tough sell for other owner. Giving up A level talent for B/C level. Just my .02.
I appreciate you taking your time for this input!
I have also been eyeballing Schmitt, love the positional versatility with some power just not sure if he is a Hot Schomato??
Thanks for your input!
Thank you!!
Have a great weekend
No problem
Looking to spec on some saves, who do you prefer between Weaver/Vest/Vesia ?
Vest
You mentioned Megahertz and I thought it was a Spider Noir reference. Nope, that was Megawatt (great show though) I almost mentioned Sanchez in the comments earlier this week, but I didn’t want to jinx him since I roster him. He was Mega Man in May! He’s coming for Zack Attack next!
I haven’t seen it yet, but plan on it
Cage is solid, watch it in the black and white option
Nice! I will!
I don’t care how close you are: in the end, your friends are gonna let you down. Family. They’re the only ones you can depend on
Ha, nice
acuna blurb reminded me of an old joke.
army bomb defusal manual:
1. Cut the blue wire
2. But first…
Hahaha
Rockies win total actually went up with Quintana hitting IL.
Ya know, it’s hard to say, very close
Please rank each grouping for ROS. Thank you.
1. Salvy, Dingler, Basallo
2. J Ryan, Cole, Gausman
3. Trea, Konnor, Otto
Need a pitcher, Melton, Jump, Kolek ,Sasaki or Urena?……I can also roll the dice to see if River Ryan comes up soon if he’s a better option then the ones said….ty
Melton
My lineup is at the point where I’m ready to start benching guys like Mikael Garcia, Tatis, Tucker, for guys who are hitting. It’s hard to cut the chord on these people. I stick Daylen Lile in after he hits 4 homers in a week, he goes 1 for 20. Im always a week late Im in a keeper league, I kept Tatis, Tucker, Devers, Greene, Mikael Garcia. None of them are even top 50 in overall hitting. I can’t trade them, no one is interested right now. So its play em or plug in the Luke Raley’s and Angel Martinez’s of the world. Bottom line if those guys don’t start to hit Im not winning anyway. Thx to H2H and good pitching, I’m 5-4 with a lot of season left. I have to believe these guys will eventually find their way back to life. Unless they are truly washed at 28/29 years old. Sorry for the whining. Have a nice weekend.
I’ve benched Julio and Gunnar this year. If they’re not performing as per their expectations, they’re useless.
i think you double down. you kept these guys for a reason. believe the back of the baseball card. unless it’s h2h, doesn’t matter when the production comes. i didn’t always feel that way. but over the years i’ve come to believe that chasing production has generally not worked out. kinda like your lile sitch. you end up getting the worst of both worlds. baseball is funny. a guy can get hot and hit 5 jacks in a week and all of a sudden his numbers don’t look so bad. if you happen to have him on the bench that week, you’ve lost 17% of a 30 homer season.
it is so hard though. sometimes a guy just doesn’t get it together and it’s just a lost season and with the benefit of hindsight you would have been better off making a change. but i think you really have to have reasons, strong belief that there’s no hope for that player because for the most part, the prospect of that player just playing to his track record for the rest of the year is better than the upside of whomever your getting off waivers.
one of the big red flags, though, is when a player starts to lose playing time. that’s when you really have to take a hard look
Gotta draw the line somewhere tho, I don’t mind benching a guy like Maikel…Gunnar and Julio I think you start
I have ELDC so it was a no brainer to bench Gunnar at SS and roll with a hot DH such as MH2, Pages, Stewart. Pages and MH2 have both been more effective than Julio thus far as my 2 &3 OFers.
Gotcha
the three killing me right now are Greene, Hoerner and Riley. Could you rank them in order of who you’re most confident can turn things around?
Nico, Greene…Riley hasn’t been good for years
Weird, WEIRD year, so I have to agree. I just keep hoping that things are going to deviate back to the mean, but this is starting to look like an outlier/Bizarro World year.
it has been super weird. up is down in pitching especially
Patrick Corbin getting Cy votes
Agreed. Play your studs.
You too!
It is really tough when your top 5 (or so) picks mostly don’t start out well, because they are supposed to be the foundation of your team. I usually hold onto these guys until week 13 or longer, even if they are struggling. The guys you draft late are easy to cut early. But I have no problem benching my top picks when they aren’t performing.
Hey Grey!
Would you trade will Warren for Ed rod and baz in a 12 team redraft QS league? Worried about will Warren getting bumped from the rotation
Sure
Grey
1)In a 10 team points league who would you drop to activate Jared Jones
Tolle or Ben Brown
2) I need HR’s and Runs
I am willing to trade either Yesavage or Jared Jones.
What names of hitters could I go after
Brown 2. I don’t know maybe gamble on Eugenio?
Would you go after Wood or Pages for Trey or Jones
I’d love Wood or Pages but are they realistic?
not sure
but I am willing to find out
The other team desperately needs pitching
Ok, then Wood first
12 team redraft h/h points .. would really like to see Acuna have another day like yesterday today so I can dump his azz…
You trading Acuna for Ju Rod or Carroll
Yes, either…Corbin 1st
Oh Great Grey –
Michael Harris or Bryan Reynolds ros pts league?
Harris
Grey,
could you rank ros for a pts league:
Arraez, Bazzana, Schmitt
Bazzana, Schmitt
where would Maikel rank with these guys?
2nd
Good morning Grey!
7 Category hitting yahoo league. 10 teams
Who would you choose for rest of season:
Christian Walker
Wilson Contreras
I want to trade one of them for a pitcher.
I also have Vlad Guerrero, so I have plenty of depth. Didn’t draft well having 3 -1st basemen!
Walker
Basically you’re saying Paredes and Jung are average boring players,,, but as 3B they’re still valuable?
would i drop for Z.Gelof instead?
Yeah, I wouldn’t drop them for Gelof right after they homer, maybe in a week
Happy Friday Gray I was offered trout for my Tucker points League would you do it?
No
Re: wires. I’m not sure about blue or green but I believe it’s “white you’re alright, red you’re dead”.
Haha
I’ve always wondered when I read your notes (and I do read them every day, very entertaining!) why it seems you care more about ERA than WHIP. They count equally. I mean I roster Eovaldi a couple places and there is something to be said for 7 innings of .85 WHIP and 6 k’s. Yea, sucks he gave up the early runs but I think retiring the last 13 batters he faced counts for more than garbage.
Right
Grey!!
Love you, man.
In my RCL I’m in first on offense but 10th in pitching – enough for 4th place though everything is volatile from 2nd to 8th. What would be your strategy to improve my pitching categories?
I’m 9th in ERA (3.96), 8th in WHIP (1.225), in Ks I’m 10th (436), tied for 9th in wins (27), 6th in saves (25)
Starters
Arrighetti (recently acquired), Hancock, Kirby, Grayson (just acquired yesterday), Sasaki, Teng (recent, starting him tonight, all pitches up 1mph, his sweeper 0.118 BAA), Tolle, Woo
Bullpen
Chapman, Duran, Yates (recent add)
Hoffman and Ashby are both available. Would you add either or both and who are the drops if any? Maybe sit tight and hope for the best from your son (Grayson) who looked good yesterday against the hapless Tigers.
Cheers,
Ante
I wouldn’t trust Grayson in an RCL, Ashby over him…You need to make a trade for some pitching if you’re doing that well in hitting and poorly in pitching…Do it fast before the cats are set in stone and you can’t move them
