The trade deadline in the Razzball Commenter Leagues is fast approaching. Thursday, August 1st is your deadline, which means by the time you’re reading this, you’ll have about one week to make your move(s). Happy trading friends. I happen to be on vacation this week which means I’m not at work and happily enjoying some day drinking like my DFS buddy, Richardo last week. Fear not though, I’m still here for my fellow RCLers, I won’t leave you hanging. We’ve got top ten updates, updates on the ‘Perts League, trades and our weekly leaders for the week that was, week 16. The Fantasy Master Lothario joins the Ditka Boys again on this week’s baseball podcast. There are lots of options to choose from at starting pitcher tonight, but most guys are fairly pricy and are going to cost you. Braves starter Dallas Keuchel is an exception, though, as he comes in at just $7,200, despite a 3.58 ERA through six starts. Keuchel hasn’t been racking up many strikeouts, but he should be counted on for a strong outing against a Royals lineup that has just a .295 wOBA versus lefties this year, ranking them as a bottom-five offense. On a night where many owners will be spending up on their pitchers, rolling with Keuchel as a contrarian value pick seems like it could hit.

Andrew Benintendi has been…Actually, we should stop there and dissect those first four words. He is Andrew Benintendi, as far as I know. ‘Has been’ is interesting, but more of the hyphenated word ‘has-been,’ as in ‘once was’ as in, “I saw Tom Arnold at the Whole Foods near me, what a has-been.” Funny side note that is actually related, as most of you know, Rudy does the titles, I write the posts. So to get a title, I text him what I want the lede to be. Yesterday, I texted him, “Benintendi is a sh*tbird, but might be coming out of it with a homer, title ideas?” That really is it, isn’t it? What more is there to say? His strikeout rate is egregious (for him), up from 16% to 23.6%. His home run per fly ball would make Juan Pierre be like, “Nuh-uh, cuz, you don’t play with that turd.” On top of the vomitorium that is housing his stats, he’s hitting so many fly balls (46%) that are going nowhere (87.5 MPH average exit velocity). This is actually a recipe for disaster I just made-up: Benintendi has 17th most extreme launch angle and the 7th (!) worst HR/FB. In layman’s terms, he’s hitting everything up and nothing out. That’s awful. So, yesterday was a solid game (3-for-5 with his 8th homer, hitting .266), but I’d be careful thinking he has been good, without the hyphen. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Who would’ve thought little D.J. LeMahieu would be the best free agent signing of the past decade? Yeah, I said it! Mainly because I have an awful memory and suffer from extreme recency bias! He’s definitely the best signing of this preseason though. He’s 3 HRs away from setting a new career-high, already has a new career-high in RBI and is again leading his league in batting average as he did with the Rockies in 2016. His disappointing, injury-plagued 2018 caused his stock to dip a bit, but Brian Cashman is looking like a genius again for this signing. And oh yea, not that it matters to us, but he’s playing Gold Glove defense again at both 2B and 3B. Does defense matter to you? Do you use any defensive stats in any of your leagues?

I was pleasantly surprised to find that MLB is not running a skeleton crew this sunny summer Monday: in fact, it’s rather a fulsome slate, with 11 games going down across baseball land. Options are varied by position, but I think we can build ourselves a decent enough slate on FanDuel today, around our anointed centerpiece, Robbie Ray.

This is one of those rare articles where I’ll be writing up more two-start streamers than one-start streams. With that said, there are so many pitchers that I love for this week, that I’ll provide an additional list of one-start streamers that intrigue me. It’s crazy to say this but we’re actually at a pivotal point of the season. We’re past the 100-game mark by the time you’re reading this and we have the trade deadline coming next week too. That means a lot of these rotations could change and it’ll be key to keep an eye on that for the next 10 days.

We have ten games on the FanDuel Main Slate today, so plenty of great options. The biggest concern for today is the weather in several locations, which will require monitoring up until lock. On days like today, the best thing to do is look for ways to maximize value. To do that, we’ll first take a look at Rogelio Armenteros ($5,600). Armenteros has a deflated salary due to his role with the Astros in his previous appearances, where he was pitching out of the bullpen. He is fully stretched out, though, with a recent appearance for Round Rock where he threw 95 pitches, so we should not expect too short of a leash today. Let’s take advantage of the low salary and make Armenteros our featured start.

Prospect News: The Rutschman Delivers

Adley Rutschman (1-for-4 with his first homer) made his pro debut on Friday night. He was the number one overall pick in this summer’s draft (Orioles) and debuted at #37 overall on my recent Midseason Top 50 list. That’s pretty high for a fantasy catcher, so obviously we’re expecting big things from his bat. He’s a plus hit/power backstop and along with Vaughn and Bleday is a 60 overall (above average) profile among the recent draftees. On top of the talent, he’s also a college bat that shouldn’t take forever to cook (the way a lot of catching prospects do). Similar to Joey Bart if you’re looking for a recent (albeit lazy) comp. Here’s what else is happening around the minor leagues…
