The theme of the Top 100 hitters this week is triumphant returns. Carlos Gomez is back from his latest trip to the disabled list and is mashing. Ab-so-lute-ly mash-ing. Keon Broxton, left for dead just a few weeks ago, is the hottest power-speed combo hunk in all the land. Even Cameron Maybin has returned to our ranks, though his return has been more gradual over the last few weeks since we lost our beloved Mike Trout.
I have not been overly kind to the newcomers since taking over this series. Perhaps that is my way of initiating them and making sure they belong among us Top 100ers. This week, though, my heart is filled with warmth. Perhaps it is because I am looking ahead to a mini 4th of July vacation, or maybe I am just getting soft in my old age :::pause here and smirk as you slowly look around the room:::.
Now, about our newcomers.
- Carlos Gomez – Since being activated from the disabled list on June 16, Gomez has hit six home runs in eight games. He is slugging .967 with an OPS of 1.361 and a wOBA of .540. All of those numbers are both incredible and unsustainable. While he is not going to continue at that pace or anywhere close to it for the rest of the season, there is at least a precedent for elite production from Gomez. Before his fall from grace in 2015, he was an MVP candidate in 2013 and 2014 who offered an elite power and speed combination. While things fell apart for him in Milwaukee and Houston, he has done well for himself since landing in Texas. I grabbed him in a couple RCLs after some owners dropped him while he was on the disabled list, and that gamble is certainly paying off right now.
- Keon Broxton – Just a few weeks ago, I removed Broxton from the Top 100 and thought he might be left for dead outside of the village walls. Ryan Braun was nearing a rehab assignment, Domingo Santana and Hernan Perez were hitting, and top prospect Lewis Brinson was called up from Triple-A and immediately inserted into the top of the lineup. Broxton had just gone 0-for-5 with another three strikeouts, and his average was down to .224. Since then, he has hit six home runs and hit safely in 11 of 13 games. His wOBA for the last two weeks is .467, and while that is surely aided by a .381 BABIP, his hard hit has been 44.4%, which is right where it ended up last season. Last season, his hard hit percentage helped maintain a high BABIP, and the same could happen in the second half. I wouldn’t count on him to carry your batting average, but if he keeps hitting the ball hard he could easily get back on track for a 25/25 season. Sign me up.
- Cameron Maybin – Maybin has been the darling of the baseball and the fantasy baseball worlds the last few weeks, as he has filled in for Trout admirably. In 14 games since coming off the disabled list, Maybin has a wOBA of .424, is slugging .603, and has 10 stolen bases and three home runs. Despite missing some time, he is still on pace for more than 50 steals, provided he continues to play once Trout comes back and can stay healthy. Neither is a given, especially the latter. But if he does, then the reward certainly outweighs the risk.
- Starling Marte – Ahem.

A few of you have mentioned adding Marte back to our fold in the comments the past couple weeks. Fear no more, my faithful lads and ladies, the day is finally here. While his suspension isn’t up until July 18, he can go on a minor league rehabilitation assignment for the final 15 games of his suspension. That day is coming soon, and once it does, he is going to be snatched up in just about every league (if he hasn’t been already).
Now, for the Week 13 Top 100 rankings.
