Do you hear the siren? Do you see me on a unicycle riding close behind it? That’s because it is time for your
Razzball weekly fantasy baseball injury report!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Wait…can Keelin ride a unicycle?  A true renaissance woman!  I wanted to pop in and mention some injuries that cropped up late Friday so y’all don’t go without your news of the injured and the lame…so macabre you all are!  James McCann (NYM – C) is set to miss about 6 weeks with a hamate bone fracture that will require surgery.  Ryan Mountcastle (BAL – 1B/OF) hit the 10-Day IL with a forearm strain that had caused him to miss a couple games.  He’ll take some more time to heal up.  Seiya Suzuki has missed three games with an ankle injury but the Cubs have not seen fit to add him to the IL.  In other news, water is wet, fire is hot, and George Springer (TOR – OF) left last night’s game with an injured ankle.  Extent of injury TBD.  Now back to your regularly scheduled parade of the maimed.

This week, there have been 3 “COVID” and 9 “undisclosed” entries on the COVID-IL bringing the total confirmed or precautionary player cases to 13 over the past week. Additionally, the Cleveland Guardians were having trouble guardian-ing their immune systems after a COVID outbreak infected seven members of the coaching staff, including manager Terry Francona. This outbreak resulted in the first game COVID-caused came postponement of the season.

Back issues were also on the rise this week. “Back tightness” and “back spasms” accounted for four new entries, across positions, to the IL. There was also an uptick in catchers (5 6) added to the IL. RPs (10) and SPs (5) were also on the uptick, with COVID being a contributing factor to these numbers.

American League Injuries

AL Central

Chicago White Sox

Aaron Bummer (RP): Bummer is out with a strained knee on the 15-day IL. While the Bummer had a shaky start, he had not given up a run in four games. In his absence, the White Sox have been using Jose Ruiz, Bennett Sousa, and Reynaldo Lopez.

Lucas Giolito (SP): Giolito is out on the COVID-19 IL.

Kansas City Royals

Edward Olivares (OF): Olivares was placed on the 10-day IL with a strained quad. Michael A. Taylor replaced Olivares during the game Olivares experienced the injury in. Sebastian Rivero was recalled to the roster to fill Olivares’ spot on the roster.

Minnesota Twins

Danny Coulombe (RP): The Twins continue to be plagued by injuries. Coulombe was added to the 15-day IL with a hip impingement. Yennier Cano was brought up and made his majors debut as he replaced Coulombe.

Trevor Larnach (OF): Larnach was moved to the 10-day IL with a groin injury. Jose Godoy will replace Larnach.

Chris Paddack (SP): Paddack has been moved to the 60-day IL with elbow inflammation. Cole Sands was transferred to the roster to fill the missing spot.

AL West

Tampa Bay Rays

Phoenix Sanders (RP): Sanders was moved to the 15-day IL with lower back spasms. Sanders has begun his rehab assignment and should return soon.

AL West

Oakland Athletics

Stephen Piscotty (INF): Piscotty, who I keep calling “Scotty Piscotty” in my head, has a strained calf. It is only a grade 1 strain, and the A’s just got Ramón Laureano from his PED-related suspension.

Los Angeles Angels

David Fletcher (INF): Fletcher is out on the 10-day after having adductor surgery (hip/groin). Andrew Velazquez has replaced Fletcher and been performing well.

Jose Rojas (INF/OF), Max Stassi (C), Kurt Suzuki (C): Rojas, Stassi, and Suzuki were all placed as “undisclosed” on the COVID-19 IL. Chad Wallach was called up to support the loss of Stassi and Suzuki. The Angels are doing quite all right despite having two catchers and others on the IL.

Austin Warren (RP): Warren is on the 15-day IL for nasal fracture surgery. Warren’s nose was broken a week after being hit by a stray ball at Red Sox batting practice at Fenway. OUCH. Elvis Peguero was activated.

Seattle Mariners

Tom Murphy (C): Murphy is on the 10-day IL with a shoulder dislocation. His prognosis is positive and he is currently traveling with the team.

Texas Rangers

Mitch Garver (C): Garver is on the 10-day IL with a strained flexor tendon. Sam Huff was brought up to replace Garver. Jonah Heim has also played in place of Garver.

National League Injuries

NL Central

Chicago Cubs

Michael Hermosillo (OF): Hermosillo was added to the 10-day IL with a strained quad. Wade Miley was activated to replace Hermosillo.

Nick Madrigal (2B): Madrigal was moved to the 10-day IL with lower back tightness. Ildemaro Vargas is being brought up to fill Madrigal’s spot.

Sean Newcomb (RP): Newcomb was moved to the 15-day IL with a sprained ankle. Mark Leiter Jr. will fill Newcomb’s spot.

David Robertson (RP), Marcus Stroman (SP): Robertson and Stroman were added to the COVID-19 IL with an “undisclosed” condition. You take a guess of what the condition might be.

Cincinnati Reds

Lucas Sims (RP): It has been a tough season for Sims who is now on the 15-day IL with lower back spasms. You may remember Sims spent the first few weeks of the season on the IL with an elbow issue. Art Warren, Tony Santillan, and Hunter Strickland may replace Sims at various points. Update your roster(s) accordingly.

Milwaukee Brewers

Andrew McCutchen (OF): Cutch is on the COVID-19 IL. Tyrone Taylor replaced Cutch, who should return soon.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Jake Marisnick (OF): Marisnick is on the 10-day IL for thumb surgery. He will be replaced by Max Kranick.

Roberto Perez (C): Pérez is on the 60-day IL with a significant strained hamstring. Andrew Knapp has replaced Pérez in the line-up.

St. Louis Cardinals

Adam Wainwright (SP): Wainwright was out on COVID-19 protocol (sort of!), but he is all good now and back on the roster now.

NL East

Miami Marlins

Richard Bleier (RP), Jon Berti (INF/OF), Brian Anderson (3B/OF): Bleier, Berti, and Anderson are all on the COVID-19 IL. Anderson has completed his protocol and will resume playing.

Joey Wendle (INF): Wendle was added to the 10-day IL with hamstring tightness. Erik Gonzales replaced Wendle.

New York Mets

Sean Reid-Foley (RP): I included Reid-Foley in last week’s edition of Ambulance Chasers. However, Reid-Foley’s status has been updated, and he will likely be out for the season after getting Tommy John surgery.

Philadelphia Phillies

Zach Eflin (SP), Zack Wheeler (SP): Wheeler and Eflin were out as “undisclosed” on the COVID-19 list. Cristopher Sanchez replaced Eflin, and Connor Brogdon and Francisco Morales were recalled from the minors to replace both Eflin and Wheeler. Bailey Falter also joined the team. Wheeler has returned to play.

NL West

San Diego Padres

Matt Beaty (OF/1B): Beaty has been out with a shoulder impingement after diving for a ball. Trayce Thompson and Jose Azocar will see increased playing time while Beaty is out.

San Francisco Giants

Jake McGee (RP): McGee is on the 15-day IL with lower back tightness.
