Today concludes the fantasy baseball sleepers‘ portion of our program. Like the 3rd basemen to target, 2nd basemen to target or outfielders to target, this post is necessary. You need to target the right names at the end of the draft for starters. As I always say, starters are available later. As with other target posts, these guys are being drafted after the top 200 overall. Also, all Steamer hitter projections are updated just about every day (mostly small adjustments), and all 2026 fantasy baseball rankings are updated daily until the start of the season next week. Anyway, here’s some starters to target for 2026 fantasy baseball:
PSYCHE! The first week’s Buy/Sell is already available for Patreon members. It will be released all year early for Patreons, so if people are getting a jump on you, it’s because they paid the $10. Anyway, the starters to target:
Bubba Chandler (ESPN 205) Gave you my Bubba Chandler fantasy, and I am admittedly the low man on Bubba this year. I just kinda hate his command. I’d take the flyer on him after 200 overall if he’s drafted around there, but there’s a good chance he won’t be there that late.
Shane Baz (ESPN 209, NFBC 205) His last year was awful, but it was due to homers allowed and guess what? He doesn’t have to deal with that stupid Steinbrenner Field again this year, and its bad dimensions and listen to it all year rant about how much it hates Dave Winfield Park.
Andrew Abbott (ESPN 215, NFBC 221) Thought I’d be less interested in Abbott this year, but sometimes I even surprise myself. [jumping out of a closet and screaming in front of a mirror] Hmm, that’s more of a scare than a surprise, but I’m on my toes, and that made me get a little turtlehead.
Zac Gallen (ESPN 223, NFBC 226) Hobbs gave you his five starters to target in every league, and Gallen was one. I agree.
Matthew Boyd (NFBC 233) He was a top 20 starter last year. He was being drafted after Pablo Lopez. He is still being drafted after Shane Bieber in some leagues. I get polyps on my intestine when I do these posts they are so frustrating. I want to communicate to everyone just how bad they’re drafting, but I can’t. It’s upsetting for me.
Kris Bubic (ESPN 239, NFBC 219) He had a 2.55 ERA last year with a 9 K/9. I get that there’s some shoulder concerns, but again: 2.55 ERA in 116 1/3 IP with strikeouts. Here’s a finer point that I’m putting my finger on: How many starters do you draft that you get 120 IP from in a 12-team mixed league or shallower? Two? Maybe? If you get 115 IP from Bubic, he might be the 2nd most IP you get from someone you draft.
Jack Flaherty (ESPN 244, NFBC 226) Wanna believe in something? Believe in Flaherty because of Saberhagenmetrics like BDon believes in Saberhagenmetrics. You ever think BDon says to his lady friend, “I’ll pay the check. In odd years.” If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you haven’t listened to any preseason podcasts. Shame on you.
Noah Cameron (ESPN 250, NFBC 266) Wrote a Noah Cameron sleeper. There’s so many starter sleepers to mention. Up until Cameron that was only from 200 to 250 for ESPN. Fifty spots and so many starters to grab! Listen to this: After that fifty, there’s Shane Smith and Ryne Nelson. If you were to just have those guys last year, your collective ERA was 3.62 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 300 1/3 IP. I get that you need Ks and all, but that’s a pretty good start for guys you could’ve drafted after 250 overall THIS year! That’s a 8.3 K/9 too (277 total Ks), which, honestly, isn’t that big of a drawback. Couple that with someone like Bryan Abreu and you’ve Frankenstein’d together a number two starter.
Parker Messick (ESPN 258, NFBC 285) Excellent command and let’s stop there and think: Is Parker Messick breaking camp with the Guards? That’s the key question for him, and a few of these guys, tee bee aitch.
Connelly Early (ESPN 264, NFBC 306) There’s so many starters to draft late it’s kinda obscene, and I like Early a lot, but it’s goofy ESPN has him before multiple guys after this who are unranked.
Shane McClanahan (ESPN 283, NFBC 201) I kinda wish I drafted him in 100% of leagues. He has a 3.02 ERA in 404 2/3 IP in his career. Could he get hurt again? Sure, then you drop him. You’re not holding everyone (anyone?) you draft after 250 overall in a 12-team mixed league. After this we’re going to guys who ESPN did not rank. For most of the ESPN NR guys who they did not rank, I assume they forgot about them. This post (and all the sleeper posts) are more about highlighting some guys to watch for late, so take all the ESPN rankings with a grain of salt. They still have (as of this writing, at least) Hurston Waldrep AND Spencer Schwellenbach ranked. (Actually, I just checked (this is a week later from when I originally wrote this) and they have removed Waldrep, but Schwellenbach is still ranked above Shane McClanahananananananananan.)
Joey Cantillo (ESPN NR, NFBC 301) I’m shortlisting Cantillo as my special GREY’S LOCK OF THE YEAR. Granted, that list is 100 players long and Adalberto Mondesi has been on there for nine years. Cantillo just needs to find a skosh more command and he could be a top 30 starter. I should’ve wrote a sleeper for him, but time did not permit.
Jack Leiter (ESPN NR, NFBC 254) Jack Leiter sleeper. Also, why would he be unranked? Is there any earthly reason? He was a top 200 overall player last year on the Player Rater and the 56th best starter. That’s draftable in ten team leagues, at worst!
Logan Henderson (ESPN NR, NFBC 315) There’s a case to be made for Henderson being better than Jacob Misiorowski. No one is making that case because Misi Misiorowski has 110 MPH filth, but Henderson couples excellent stuff with good command, something Misi can’t claim. Also, Logan might be nursing an injury.
Edward Cabrera (ESPN NR) Yes, Edward Cabrera sleeper. That was located inside a trade post. Plus, some of these unranked guys are giving me an ulcer. They have Mitch Keller ranked above Edward Cabrera. EdCab was a top 50 starter LAST YEAR! Keller was the 89th best starter. Just incredible.
Mike Burrows (ESPN NR, NFBC 261) Astros develop pitching as well as the Brewers. Astros wanted Burrows for a reason, and you should draft him based just on trusting the Astros.
Max Meyer (ESPN NR, NFBC 302) Okay, there’s so many starters to draft I need to draw the line somewhere, so Imma you finish but first Imma list names: Chad Patrick, Reynaldo Lopez, Clay Holmes, Zebby Matthews, Kyle Harrison, Brandon Williamson, Rhett Lowder, Robby Snelling, Cody Ponce and that’s only the guys I found between 300 and 320 overall in NFBC ADP for the last week. It might be the best year ever for late starters. Fine! One more:
Mick Abel (ESPN NR, NFBC 307) Spring Training is dumb. It’s all nonsense. You can’t trust any of it. [looking both ways to make sure everyone who heard that has walked away, once they have, I start again] But if a guy is a flyer at the end of drafts and just had the kind of Spring Training Mick Abel had? Then draft, draft, draft in the final rounds everywhere. He was always a top prospect and traded for Jhoan Duran, so the Twins wanted him. If he’s figured out his command (and spring numbers say he has), then he could be some kind of special.
Brandon Sproat (ESPN NR, NFBC 544) Fine! One more! This is a trust fall into the Brewers know what they’re doing, and his velocity is up in the spring. Up to 97.5 MPH! Sproat me some of that!
Speaking of Adalberto Mondesi, what ever happened to Delino Deshields Jr.? And what are the odds that Justin Crawford follows a similar career path?
Speaking of Adalberto Mondesi, I think I recall some Josh Rutledge disappointment.
Rutledge can still succeed in the KBO
Haha, don’t put that on Crawford!
8 team (saves only)
My SPs: Woo, Joe Ryan, Ranger Suarez, MacKenzie Gore, Robbie Ray, Gallen, Flaherty, Rodon, Bibee, Keller, Kikuchi
RPs:Bryan Abreu, Robert Suarez, Dennis Santana
Lose any of those dudes for Bubic, Cameron, Messick, Early Cantillo, Leiter, Burrows, Cabrera?
Appreciate you as always – cheers!
there’s a new post for followups
Hey Grey,
Might be too late to get a reply but keepers due by midnight and I would love your (or anyone elses) thoughts. 10 team h2h auction ($260), 6×6 pretty standard cats (obp instead of avg). Keep 6, prices increase by 5 or 10 depending on years kept.
Options are Julio 43, JoRam 41, Gunnar 41, Carroll 40, Crochet 20, Kurtz 15, Roman 12, Buxton 6. Struggling to cut it down to 6 debating “value” vs more expensive studs. Thanks!
Not Julio and Corbin…just rebuy them if you want them back
So many have steered me in other directions, but I think I am there with you. Presumably I can go into it having roughly decided I will make sure to get one back at, hopefully at worst, a few bucks more, if I feel I really have to have them. Gunnar over them mostly due to positional scarcity I presume? Thanks for making me feel less nuts.
No problem
There are so many starters. My god.
Ha I know
In a 7×7 daily roto (AVG, OBP and SLG for ratios) do you like Happ, Nimmo or Herrera for counting stats and ratios? Roster Resource shows Happ hitting 3rd, Nimmo hitting 1st, and Herrera mostly DH and C this year hitting 4th on a bad team.
Happ
Thanks.
For pitching we use W, QS, OBPA.
Who would be your first and second choice between Boyd, McClanahan, Imai, Senga (sitting 97 this spring – good sign for him)?
Boyd
Hi Grey…much talk about AI synching to draft software and people just allowing AI to make their selections. What are your thoughts on this AI trend? Are we going to destroy this great game? Thanks! Vegas for you this year?
Not going to Vegas…I don’t use AI
AL-only keep 12, $1 Slade or $19 Rodon? I know Slade’s the better value, but with inflation due to keepers and league rules I’m on the fence; no bench and you can only add for IL stints/demotions, so keeping Rodon gives a guaranteed week 1 waiver pickup for any hot starter.
Rodon
Much as it grates, I need to drop one of these sleeper types to ipck up a damn catcher! My three lowest ranked are Peterson, Cantillo and N Cameron. Tempted to hang on to Cameron cos his projected WHIP is so tasty. Agree?
So which of Peterson or Cantillo gets the chop?
Lose Peterson
12 team dynasty keep all.
Still working with same owner on a trade. He falls asleep for a day or so.
2.Rooker and C. Schillter
I have Elly but might regret losing out on Made.

Ok thanks so much for what you do.

For some reason I am stuck on Cantillo. Would you add him over any of these guys? It is a keeper league and we keep 13. I know Shane Smith is ranked in the 60 something range. He is the one that I am least excited about. Who do you expect a better year from Smith or Cantillo?
I’d hold for now
Thank you!
No problem
What about Sproat over any of these guys? Or still hold?
Hold for now
Thank you
No problem
Please allow me to be dumb, again…
Let’s take Baz… your rankings have him in the 170’s but here you say after 200.
I’ll keep trying to keep up
At ESPN and NFBC they have him after 200, I do not
Insert Herman GIF
Thanks!
No problem
Grey!
It’s been a hot minute. Glad to be back for another cortisol-filled season where every “sure thing” is a mistake and injuries kneecap hopes and dreams. So while I may not win, much like Paul Skenes, I will nearly serve my league as Champion, and many people are saying that’s actually more heroic.
Anyway, I wanted your take on a pitching strategy that has me intrigued – No RP & all SP in a 12 team 5×5 with QS and SV+HLD. So while I see the obvious punting SV+HLD, you would hopefully always win K’s and QS. I’m tempted. What say you?
Thank you!
-IANASM
Hey, it’s good to see you! I don’t mind it, you can just add RPs in-season if you want
@Grey: i know you dont rank closers the same way as all other players, sagnof and all, but any you find you have more shares of than others so far?

Looking forward to your daily notes!
Your team is stacked in every conceivable way but it’s a shallow league so it should be and you’ll still have to work waivers
Thanks. I don’t like that the league is so shallow, but it’s been a slow decline in membership. Makes it harder for me to guage strengths/weaknesses.
Can’t wait for the season to start!
Same!
From a keeper standpoint, anyone you would target for 2 late round IL stash targets? Going for a rebuild this year, so not concerned about getting minimal contributions for this year. AKA, How do I find this year’s Kyle Bradish?
Cole? Burnes? Anyone who went to have TJ last year?
Grey! I’m having a hard time fielding a line up in my dynasty league. I’m at least a year away from competing, but trying to fill a full line up. Safe to drop Edman (or someone else), for someone like Marsh, or should I just hold since I’m in full blown rebuild? Giant rosters sorry… Thanks as always!

You have an excellent balanced hitting team and solid pitching…Not much to argue with, maybe iffy on RPs, but that’s fine in a 10 teamer

Nasim Nunez in an 11 teamer is funny…Your pitching looks insanely stacked and your hitting looks oddly weak for an 11 teamer…I think you should’ve drafted less pitching and more hitting
Yeah fair enough.
I was picking 10th out of 11.
I was happy with the Gunnar/Kurtz combo and then
I went Wood and Brown. Should have stuck to my usual formula of not picking a P until at least the 5th round. way to early in the 4th round to do that. and that threw me off the rest of the way.
Well as you always say its a marathon, I have six months to clean it up.
Yeah, totally, you can make it work

Your RPs are a mess, so yeah…I like the pitching a lot otherwise, it’s very strong, perhaps a bit too strong, which has hurt your hitting a bit…You look a little weak on power and maybe OBP
Man every year there are so many of these gems for free. Great list.
Wondering if you could rank these available upside stashes for a final roster spot:
Liberatore
Max Meyer
Cantillo
Cavalli
Braxton Ashcraft
Ryan Weathers
Thank you!
Thanks! Cantillo, Weathers, Meyer
Hey Grey,
Which 2 would you keep? H2H categories league.

Eury Perez – 17th Round

Solid.

Hey Grey –
Happy Razzball Season! Any feedback on this 12-team, 2 catcher roto team? I think I took your 1B scarcity comment too seriously so I may trade for a SS. Pasketti for Abrams work for you?

Hitting looks solid, maybe a tad light on AVG…I don’t see why you beed to trade for an SS unless Vinnie is a bench bat…If UTIL seems fine…For CJ is fair tho…Pitching looks solid too!
When does Streamolater get populated?
Prolly early next week, teams haven’t even released their rotations yet
Your Mondesi comment is gold. You loved him and Roughned Odor.
Sal Frelick or Jordan Beck (5×5 12-team roto for 4th OF spot).

A lot of good starters in the later rounds o agree. I’ve got early/boyd and Bieber in a dynasty league already so going to hold onto them for next year.

Any of the above guys I should be looking to sell? I hooked the league 3 years ago and finished 5th last year (12 team league) which has been my best finish. Trying to get better
Thanks!

Ok Grey, 3 drafts in 5 days, so here’s a mish mosh of questions.
Thanks for everything, excited to defend my title!
Deeper the league, harder to find stuff off waivers, so you have to be a little more conservative…players like Arraez, Jacob Wilson, Robbie Ray, Luis Castillo make more sense because they’re safer…
Meh, grab a couple IL guys if you have slots but I expect little from most of them…
we have OBP rankings https://razzball.com/playerrater-preseason-espnmlb12-6X6obp/
Anyone worth $1/$6? What? You mean of injured players? Maybe, injuries are impossible to say, stash a flyer or two and see

We keep minors as well and Nolan Mclean, J. Misiorowski and Cody Ponse will help out my rotation as they are still minor league eligible and are on my team. Im thinking I still should go pitcher with my first pick.
Options are:
Spencer Strider, Tyler Glasnow, S. Alcantara, B. Woodruff, Nick Lodolo, E Sheehan, R. Ray, Eovaldi, R. Suarez
Position players include:
G. Perde

Postion players

Teoscar
D.Baldwin

Im thinking i have to go with a pitcher as that group will be picked over by the time my second pick comes up. Thoughts?
Pitcher for sure… Woodruff, Eovaldi, Sheehan
Thanks! Thoughts on Lodolo

Hi Grey,
I panic-drafted Sasaki, and don’t know what to do with him. Should I drop him for any of the guys you mentioned and that are available on waivers in my league: Cantillo, McClanahan, Meyer, Messick? There’s also Mahle, Javier, Bieber…
Sure, Cantillo
I can’t quit Baz. I agree about the park. His slider also was an issue. He didn’t throw it much, but I can say very scientifically that it was awful. I wasn’t crazy about how Tampa let him pitch too much at the end of the year when they were out of it. Hoping he can stay healthy.
Yeah, agreed!
Hi Grey,
Zac Gallen, Cade Cavalli and Grant Holmes?
In a Yahoo Points league with 10 teams,
which one would you choose?
Thanks!!
Gallen
Hi Grey,
Taking a step back, I have 4 left fielders: Stowers, Abreu, Varsho and Stanton.
1. Do you agree that one needs to be cut?
2. Who would you cut?
3. Who would you start or is this a platoon situation?
Thanks so much!!
I am so grateful for all your help!!
Yo Martin, isn’t Varsho CF, Stowers player 11+ games at each OF position, Abreu is a RF, and Stanton is a RF/DH. What league has all 4 as LF?
