As I told you yesterday, I was ranked by Fantasy Pros 1st for all of fantasy baseball rankings in 2023. After I told you that, they announced their accuracy ranks of ‘pert ranks and I was ranked 2nd for last year:

If my math is right, by the year 2084, I will be 6oth best and washed. Until then, I’m sorry, haters, but King stay King.

Because I’m way too interested in how right and wrong I am and less interested in how right or Yahoo is, I went back to look at what names I told you to grab in your Yahoo leagues last year, because they were undervaluing them, and what names I told you to avoid. It’s a large-scale mishmosh of some good and some not, if I’m being honest. For all of the guys like Josh Naylor, Riley Greene and Sonny Gray, who I said were steals, there’s other guys like Nolan Jones and Jesus Luzardo who I said was great and they said, “Whoa, daddy.” Same with the other side of the coin on the avoidances, I told you to avoid Spencer Torkelson, Royce Lewis, and Shane Bieber — yay me — but I said to avoid Elly De La Cruz, Cole Ragans and Schwarber and they rolled their eyes. We’re not going to do reasoning, but, if we were, I’d have plenty of excuses!

So, grain of salt with the big brain in my melon, and hedges aside, I wrote schmohawk posts for Gerrit Cole, Rafael Devers, Corbin Burnes, and Freddie Freeman and Yahoo is too high on all of them for my tastes, which are exquisite. I’m Gilligan out on an island on my own for these overrated guys this year. Also, I didn’t write overrated posts for them, but Michael Harris II and Jacob deGrom are all way higher in rankings everywhere, outside of the Razzball universe. If you’re drafting deGrom expecting 100 IP, I have a bridge in deGrom, Kansas called deGrom Bridge and I will sell it to you for the low, low price of one dollar. Wait, that really is a low price.

On the flip, as the kids say, Lars Nootbaar sleeper? That’s why I wrote it. Parker Meadows sleeper? Michael Toglia sleeper? Victor Robles sleeper? Yes, yes and yes. Didn’t write a Bowden Francis sleeper, but no one seems to want him. Also, Willi Castro. Not an exciting name to go too in-depth about, but he was 143rd overall on the Player Rater last year, and his only “sleeper” quality is how fast people go to sleep when I talk about him so moving on!

All right, enough ha on the hoo, I’m going to list players in a handy chart. The Thank You’s have it. It being good value from my rankings vs. Yahoo’s. The No Thank You’s don’t have it. They’re bad people. Meh, they might be okay people, but they’re likely not ending up on any of my Yahoo drafted teams. For this, I’ll be using my 2025 fantasy baseball rankings (go figure!) and Yahoo’s 2025 fantasy baseball rankings (crazy, right?). Note: I wrote this the other day, so if the numbers aren’t exactly right, it’s because they heard my footsteps.

Have to keep 3 players one of which is Judge. Trying to decide the other two – between Jackson Holliday, Jarren Duran, Wyatt Langford, and Cole Ragans. Would appreciate your input.

What’s good Grey? Prepping for another season in my 12-team keeper league (K/9 and SLG%) and could use your help with my final keeper.

I’m currently keeping Vlad Jr., Jackson Chourio, Jazz, Kirby and Helsey.

My options for the last slot: Rutschman, J. Holliday, Bichette (I know, just can’t believe he’d be done at age 25), Riley Greene, Brenton Doyle and Triston Casas.

Your rankings suggest Doyle, but I’m just not sure on banking on year of evidence. I was leaning towards Casas and his power, but I think Greene might be the safer choice. What say you?

What’s your opinion on a combo of Olsen and Caminero OR Riley and Naylor? Have the 2nd pick so taking Witt if he’s there. But wanted either Riley or Olson so I can take a OF with one of the 2nd or 3rd round picks, especially since multiple mocks have had Naylor in 6th and Caminero in 7th.

In the early rounds do you try and avoid taking two guys that are on the same team? Like Mookie/Freeman, Acuna/Olson, Harper/Turner, Judge/Jazz, you get it. Do you think about that at all or is it not even a consideration for you?

But still trying to turn Burnes + more for VinnyP or Casas (Trist less likely avail it appears)…

Hold and grab Togs w current 1baggers or go for the Juicy?? OR push hard(er) on VinP?
Thank you kind sir ~ cheers!

Grey,

Just want to get your opinion on team construction. You can give me a very short answer (either Team A or Team B) with no explanation if you want. In short: I’m debating if the outcome looks better keeping Woo over Teoscar, or vice versa. All players with (*) are keepers. If you’re questioning why for Baz, it is because he is a Minor League keeper (as is Caminero). This is a SVHD league if you are wondering why the RPs are non-closers.

This is a 10 team league but the benches are VERY deep. So the waiver wire can get pretty thin. At the top of my bench I’d likely have something like this, for context:

Michael Conforto
Cristopher Sanchez
Reese Olson
Bowden Francis
Dustin May
Grant Holmes

Yeah I agree with neither team having a terrific staff. Didn’t want to make my question 3 paragraphs of context, but basically I traded quite a few draft picks in pursuit of winning last year (I did) but now either way I’ll kind of have a gaping hole after Gilbert. So I kind of did it to myself…if I had the resources I’d be taking a couple of guys from your Tuxedo tier with my lost picks.

Last year I had Gilbert, Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, Chris Sale, Freddy Peralta, Pablo Lopez, Luis Castillo, Cristopher Sanchez, Bryan Woo but I can really only keep a max of 2-3 of those.

Was at home having a drink and watching nephew and the new Star Wars movies. He seemed entertained but not excited if that makes sense. Sitting there and looking at fantasy players and coming to the realization that SW doesnt have very SW-y names anymore. Anakin, Obiwan, Lando, Luke, Quigon, Leia, Han, etc. Sure some are bland, but we have Finn, Poe, Rey (Ray?), Rose, uh….struggling with remember new ones.

Anyway, arent these guys more SW-Y than the new trilogy?

Bligh Madris
Blade Tidwell
Lars Nootbar
Jurickson Profar
Tarik Skubal
Akil Baddoo
Cal Quantrill
Mookie Betts

And guys who didnt last in minors but had great names:

Just as an add on to my previous question about my H2H OBP league and my observations of differences between your general rankings and OBP rankings. Trying to determine if the A’s will be playing Rooker in the OF regularly this season. Can’t find anything. Do you have a resource where you’ve seen more clarity on the A’s intentions? If they do insert him in the OF, it doesn’t look like he would get eligibility there anytime soon…they have a lot of OF to cycle. Thoughts?

Hey Grey,

  1. Thoughts on the Gunnar injury? Would you still keep him same in ranks or are there a couple guys below him who you prefer as safer options with similar upside?
  1. Im in a H2H league which uses OBP as category (no AVG). I compared your top 25 guys in your general rankings with the top 25 listed in the OBP rankings, and wanted you thoughts on a couple guys where the discrepancy in rankings are the greatest. The two players who get the biggest bump in rankings as compared to your general rankings is Alvarez and Vlad. I have the 6th overall pick so those two will likely be available along with guys like Gunnar, Jose Ram, Elly and Tucker who you have listed above them in general rankings. Would you still lean into any of those other 4 guys over Vlad and Alvarez because of their multi category contribution and upside – or does Vlad and Alvarez superior OBP still merit taking them above those 4? Thanks as always
Gee

Grey, good to be back – hope you are well and enjoyed the offseason! Keeper question for you with a 12-team points league.

I can keep up to four keepers. Based on feedback you gave me at the trade deadline last year, asterisks are the ones you advised to keep. Few other options included as well.

Main questions:

How do the asterisks look right now – still agree?Because I can only keep Thomas OR Tovar, which one are you leaning? The other one I will trade away for another (separate) draft pick.

THANK YOU in advance!

Dylan Cease (would be my 6th round pick)*

Justin Steele (would be my 18th round)*

Lane Thomas (would be my 23rd round)*

Jurickson Profar (would be my 25th round pick)*

Ezequiel Tovar (would be my 23rd round pick)** – – wouldn’t be able to keep him and Thomas because they’d have to go in the same round

Spencer Steer (would be my 5th round pick)

Michael King (would be my 8th round pick)

Jose Berrios (would be my 10th round pick)

When you are doing laughing at Yahoo rankings, I can provide another chuckle with this team from RCL draft last night. TLB did his best VIN impression by not taking a pitcher until like 8th round:

c – Sal Perez
1b – Christian Walker
2b – Andres Gimenez
ss – ONeill Cruz
3b – Jose Ramirez (chickened out from taking Gunnar at 1.5)
mi – Jonathan India
ci – Josh Jung
of – Jackson Chourio, Lawrence Butler, Jasson Dominguez, Josh Lowe, Jesus Sanchez
U – Christian Encarncion-Strand (bombs away hopefully lol)
b – Roman Anthony, Jacob Wilson

p – Logan Gilbert, Shota Imagana, Hunter Brown, Zach Eflin, Jackson Jobe, Walker Buehler, Cody Bradford
rp – Devin Williams, Ryan Walker, Ryan Pressley

Think about the only hitting category I might win is the speed race??

Realized that OF does really drop off after about round 10-12 and seemed to always miss on 1B in rounds 5-7 so very weak there.

Not sure how this came to be but think made few mistakes along the way to fatal end!

Hopefully learn for upcoming drafts!!

I know people love HRs and SBs, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out Vople rankings. He’s had 2 full seasons – with a sub -700 OPS and poor runs RBIs and average. He’s set to bat at the bottom of the order.

Isn’t it time to say the most likely scenario is him being a useful Sagnoff with some upside?
