San Francisco Giants outfielder slash heartthrob slash kpop superstar Jung Hoo Lee showed the Bronx how Lee-git he is Friday night with a 3-run bomb off Marcus Stroman in the first inning that looked a little something like this. Hoo Lee moly! Jung Hoo dat? The home run was his first of the season, and his first at Yankee stadium in ever. That’s Ruth’s Hoo Lee ground now, folks. The 387 foot jack had an exit velocity of 100.5 mph which is to say he hit the Hoo Lee crap out of that baseball. Is that enough puns yet? I’m Lee-terally just getting started, but okay. The 26-year old star has battled injuries so far in his MLB career. He hit .262 with two home runs and two steals in 37 games in 2024 before suffering a season ending injury last May after a collision with the center field wall. But Lee says he holds nothing against the wall personally, it’s a good wall, and after battling some lingering back pain in spring training all the back issues appears to be behind him. (Pun absolutely intended) Jung Hoo has decent contact skills and elite plate discipline and few have gotten off to a hotter start that Jung Hoo, slashing .340/.404/.596 with seven RBI and three steals and he leads the major leagues with seven doubles. The sample size is small but the .359 xBA indicates this hot start is Lee-git, and the 14.3 whiff% is among the best in the league. Known as the Grandson of the Wind, Lee has a section of supporters at Oracle park known as the Hoo Lee Gans and it might be time for all of us to jump on the Hoo Lee wa-gons. If Jung Hoo is still out there in your league time to snatch him up, he could be one of the most productive players of the year hitting in the heart of this line up, and when you’re a descendant of the wind, the sky is the limit!

Here’s what else I saw in fantasy baseball Friday night:

Robbie Ray – 4.0 IP, 2 hits, ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 3rd win. Ahh, nothing better than a four inning win. This game was called for weather so RobRay was lucky to get the win needing 98 pitches to get through four. Despite the tight pants, Ray’s circulation was flowing Friday as he generated 12 swings and misses carrying him to a perfect 3-0 record. He gets another daunting match up in Philly next week but can I ask–are the Giants a wagon, ya’ll!?

Marcus Stroman – 0.2 IP, 4 hits, 5 ER, 3 BB, K, L. The MaStro conducted himself out of the game without even getting out of the first inning on a cold rainy night. There’s only so long you can blame the weather when the opposing team puts up a nine spot on you.

Kris Bubic – 6.0 IP, 6 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, ERA at 0.96. Boob itch got all the ladies in the stands scratching furiously, checking for lumps. It’s a public service for women’s health if you think about it and it’s hard not to get flustered when he’s putting up ratios like these! The 10.1 K/9 is causing an uncontrollable itching in my loins as well!

Tanner Bibee – 4.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K. Tanner looked wild for much of this game despite this absolute dot, and was very upset with his Mr. Manager’s decision to remove him in the fifth. Still few pitcher’s have filthier stuff than Bibee, I see much better days ahead!

Angel Martinez – 3-for-3, RBI. The 2025 debut for the youngster results in four hard hit baseballs and a three-hit game! Is this heaven? I see Angels. No he’s mostly just a platoon player. With EV numbers like this, he could find himself on the stronger side of the platoon even when Lane Thomas returns.

Gabriel Arias – 3-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI. You know it was a slow day for fantasy baseball when I’m mentioning Gabriel Arias unironically.

Taj Bradley – 6.0 IP, 5 hits, ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 2nd win. This performance was especially important for my confidence starting Rays pitchers at home in their little baby ballpark. Taj allowed an RBI single to Matt Olson in the first then retired the next 15 of the 17 batters. He had a rough go in Tejas last week, but the 19/6 K/BB plays anywhere, any park, no matter how big or small.

Christopher Morel – 3-for-4, 2 runs, HR (1), 2 SB (2), slashing .303/.378/.455. The prince of the Mushroom Kingdom, fantasy baseballers know Morel has a tendency to get insanely hot for stretches. Spore-tacular bomb! Cap’ing it off with 2 steals. You might want to make room for Morel, even if there’s not mushroom on your roster.

Ozzie Albies – 1-for-3, HR (2). Bravos seem to be finally heating up a bit, I guess. But seriously, when is Acuña coming back again?

Brady Singer – 5.0 IP, 2 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 3rd win. Gave up a 2-run bomb to Adam Frazier, the first home run he’s given up all year. For any pitcher who calls Great American Ballpark their home that’s quite a feat.

Emilio Pagan – 1.0 IP, 2 K, SV (3). Would be no shock if Emilio performed his Pagan ritual to secure sole possession over the closer role as Tony Santillan seems to be out of the picture now. We eat the pig and then together we burn! Mark the beast Santillan you shall not close! Will this change when Alexis Diaz returns? I don’t know but with Easter coming this is primetime for Paganism.

James Wood – 2-for-5, HR (5). The oppo-fieldo shoto is one of the more impressive oppos I’ve seen. This is not a baby ballpark, folks. This is the Crayola Canyon, where dinky dingers go to die. THE POWER! J-Dubs should be in the Masters golfing at it like that! Move over, Rory. The 400 footer was 110.5 mph off the bat. You’re dancing. That’s now four homers in five games for Woody, and he’s also got 10 RBI in his last six games. He came into Monday with a .641 OPS and he’s now at 1.010, five days later. Sweet sassy molassy! Mmhm. I got Wood for Wood and it’s as hard as these baseballs he’s hitting. The breakout is very much here. This kid’s gonna be a star! Ha-cha-cha!

Josh Bell – 1-for-4, 2 runs, HR (2), 2 RBI. Just do what James is doing!

Andre Pallante – 7.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2nd win. You know it’s a slow fantasy baseball day when I’m considering Andre Pallante for the lede. Andre pitches to contact which is a scary proposition against a team like the Phillies that generally hit baseballs very hard. Sometimes those hard hit baseballs don’t find holes and you get a performance from Pallante like Friday nights. Way to go, AP! Thank your defense! He gets the Astros next week. Pick him up if you hate yourself.

Davis Martin – 6.0 IP, 6 hits, ER, BB, 6 K, 1st win. Another candidate for your lede this week but I know you’re not picking this guy up. Still, D-Mart did a good job of attacking the reeling Red Sox after his team gave him a rare lead early. While the off speed stuff does look nasty, methinks the Red Sox being terrible had a lot more to do with this performance than Davis Martin unlocking something. I don’t mean to rain on Davis’ parade, but this is a lot more embarrassing a loss for Boston than impressive win for Chicago.

Chase Meidroth – 1-for-1, 2 runs, 3 BB. Chase collected his first big league hit in this one and you can watch it right there and get teary eyed like me. The former Sox prospect got on base four times Friday, which is something Boston couldn’t do at all last night. Any cotinued success like this should get Meidroth moved up in the batting order fairly quickly, as the White Sox have limited options of, uhh…let’s say talent. I personally can’t wait for the tiktok edits. BB KING!

Ronel Blanco – 5.0 IP, 4 hits, 2 ER, BB, 7 K, 1st win. Finally nabs that elusive first win as its been a tough start to the season for Ronny B. The ratio’s aren’t pretty but as long as the Astros are putting up 14 runs a game he should be in line for some ez dubs.

Cam Smith – 2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, SB (1). And we thought they called him up too early? That’s now back-to-back multi-hit games for the rookie including his first career home run. Have a day rook! After striking out nine times in his first six games, he’s struck out just once in his last three. Loving the outfield eligibility too! Cam you feel the love? Not ready to add everywhere yet, but watching closer than the White Lotus season finale, hopefully with much less incest and poison.

Yanier Diaz – 3-for-5, 2 runs, Grand Slam HR (1), 5 RBI. He’s been awful so this was very much welcome. The three hits was more hits than he’s had all season to date, and it included this grand salami, his first in ever! I guess you don’t need a new catcher yet.

Isaac Paredes – 3-for-4, HR (1). Another first for Isaac, a clonk off the pole for his first ding dong as a Stro. This was a coming out party for the ’25 Stros and is anyone else loving those CityConnects? The hat logo looks suspiciously Diamondback-y but I approve!

Jake Meyers – 2-for-3, 2 SB (5). Five steals in five games, and he’s hit safely in six straight! Hard to trust adding him when he sat for three games straight last week but hot potatos gonna be hot potato’ing! Hold the sour cream, wouldn’t want to cool him down!

Mike Trout – 1-for-4, HR (6). Forgotten Angels veteran comes out of nowhere to lead the league in home runs! That’s your story! Print it!

Kyren Paris – 2-for-3, run. Tres bien! BUY. He’s been hotter than an influencer’s Coachella fit and if he’s still available in any of your league’s you need to correct that.

Nick Pivetta – 7.0 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, BB, 10 K, 2nd win. Oh boy do I love the roller coaster that is Nick Pivetta ownership. After giving up nine base runners to the Cubs in three innings last week he comes back looking like Paul Skenes’ step dad. Say cheeeese! He gave up just three hits all to Kyle Farmar, who was raking, naturally, as farmers do. Nay sayers will say “Nay!” this was one of the worst line ups in baseball at one of the most pitcher friendly parks in baseball. I’ll say, good thing they’re in the division and he’ll play half his games in this park! Pivetta is now undefeated with 14/4 K/BB through 14.0 IP at PetCo and let’s keep the good times rolling.

Fernando Tatis Jr. – 2-for-4, HR (3), SB (6). The Toro-NANDO! There’s just something about the Friday FTJ bomb! It’s gotta be the CityConnects. They just get me so HYPPPE! And the bat flip!? That was the 130th career home run for the outfielder who currently leads the league in Rizz, and is also top 10 in both aura points and fire.

Jose Quintana – 7.0 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER, 2 K. Vintage Quintana! He’s always good for one or two of these a year and boy how desperate do the Brewers look for starters? Why did they trade Burnes again?

Eduardo Rodriguez – 6.1 IP, 6 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. Coming off a 12 K performance last start I had higher hopes for EdRod in this one and he pitched decently enough but the Ks and run support were no where to be found. The 1.20 WHIP and 20/6 K/B are still real nice and he gets a juicy matchup with the Marlins next week.  I could see considering the prospect of maybe thinking about mulling over the possibility of contemplating whether or not I should review the option of potentially picking him up. I still don’t know for sure though!

Brice Turang – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI. His 10-game hit streak ended Thursday but he made up for it with a 3-hit game. We all drafted Turang for his speed so just two stolen bases is a cause for concern but he’s made up for it with his bat and the speed should come eventually. He’s looking like one of the best bets at second in the early going. Making it Turain!

Jorge Polanco – 3-for-4, HR (2). BUY. Speaking of second base, JoPo has been limited with injuries so far but has three home runs despite that and is slashing .419/.438/.710. If you missed our on Kyren Paris and were thinking about adding Kyle Farmer I urge you to reconsider. You can do better, internet friend.

Cal Raleigh – 1-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI. Big Dumper took a big dump on Chris Martin with a go-ahead bomb in the eighth inning! This is the danger of the torpedo bat, folks.

Josh Jung – 2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, SB (1). Jung like a Josh looks a little something like this. The slam & legs in C-Attle is served with fresh sashimi and a the oldest latte from the oldest Starbucks in the world. The milk is aged to perfection. Yum, that’s really, uh, chewy? Jung has never been able to stay healthy but his .474/.474/.842 slash gives us a preview of what could be if he could play every day. He’s hit safely in all five games he’s played with an RBI in four straight! Yes, I know we’re talking about five games total. Don’t ruin this for me.

Bryce Miller – 5.0 IP, 2 hits, ER, 3 BB, 5 K. B-Ryce was a bit inefficient in this one but he’s so good it doesn’t really matter.

Jacob deGrom – 4.0 IP, 3 hits, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K. See above except in this case it very much does matter.

Matthew Boyd – 6.0 IP, 4 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K. Don’t let the box score fool you, Boyd was mostly dominant this one, Mattinobu Boydamoto matched Yoshi toe-to-toe before giving up a 3-run home run in the sixth inning which effectively ended his day. We talk about pitcher’s unlocking something and Atta Boyd looks like he may have done just that this spring. He’s got a 1.59 ERA, 1.18 WHIP through three starts (17 IP) with a 17/7 K/BB, all three games against some impressive offensive line ups. He gets another tough assignment versus San Diego again next week but he’s earned the blind start from me until he gives me a reason to bench him. I’d add Golden Boyd everywhere he’s available.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto – 6.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, BB, 9 K, 2nd win. Mentioned him above, every bit as good as Boyd, only better. His ERA is at 1.23 with a 28/7 K/BB. In a rotation of Aces, Yoshi’s looking like the 1A, and its not that close.

Tommy Edman – 1-for-4, HR (6), 3 RBI. Leads the league in home runs and there’s only so many more weeks I’m going to be able to say that about Tommy Boy. Holy shnikes!

David Festa – 4.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, BB, 4 K. Uncle Festa pitched solid Friday night despite throwing only 63 pitches. Seems to me he pitched well enough get another start or at least hold off Zebby Matthews another week. I don’t know! The fan(s) want Zebby!

Byron Buxton – 1-for-4, 3 runs, HR (2), 2 RBI. This was an absolute shotski! Look at all those fans in stands going absolutely Byron Bonkers. Now wrap him in bubble wrap until tomorrow’s game.

Dillon Dingler – 3-for-5, RBI. Ding dong Dingler’s done nothing but hit slashing .387/.406/.677. I would pick him up but he will immediately go 0-for-15. I’m looking at you Hunter Goodman.

Tommy Kahnle – 1.0 IP, 3 hits, ER, K, SV (2). BUY. He’s the closer! I think! He’s been shaky! I know! He could be this year’s Jason Foley. Unclear if that’s a compliment. The Tigers are good and should play plenty of close games. Seems an ideal spot for a closer? I’d add him everywhere I needed saves, at least until Brieske gets the next save chance. Which could be tomorrow, don’t at me.

Pete Alonso – 3-for-3, HR (4), 3 RBI, batting .378. If Polar Bear Peter called Bing Bong Ballpark his home he’d be good for a 50 spot of Albombsos at the very least, right? We’ll have to settle for this one for now. Goodbye baseball! Alonso is leading the league in slugging, OPS and blank stares and is second in RBI with 18. Perhaps Pete was upset with the lack of free agent interest he received? He took that personally, Jordan meme. Good thing he’s got the opt-out! My dude is primed for a big comeback year with Juan Soto protecting him. And it’s okay, Aaron Judge, you can be jealous, I would be. Peter Alonso truthers. I know you’re out there, I see you on twitter. It’s your time now. Rise up. MVP? Too soon? Or is it? Let’s hear the polar bear roar!

Great food for thought!

I have:

AJSS
Peterson
Wesneski

1. Would you waive any of these to pick up Warren?

2. Would you start Casey Mize at Minn?

You’re the best!!

Hi Dan,

Always enjoy your column and patience with my questions!

1. Would you start or sit Francis at Baltimore?

2. Would you start or sit AJ Smith- Shawnee at TB?

3. Does AJSS have significant upside?

4. Can Kumar Rocker or Easton Lucas be more than streamers?

5. Would you cut AJSS to pick up Bubba Chandler even though Chandler won’t be called up till May?

Thanks!!

Picked up Blanco in deep league to replace Spaghetti for the easy dub. Didn’t hurt my ratios too bad, neither!

Hey if we’re using food analogy, can we call Ronel Queso Blanco?

Pivetta’s effort was good enough for a top 5 spot on the 100 Best Fantasy Starts list. Yamamoto earned a spot just outside the top 10.

Stroman’s was the 2nd worst start of the year. He couldn’t supplant Emerson Hancock from the bottom of the pile.

Mr Pants! In a 10-tm H2H with OPS as an added cat, would you recommend picking up Kyren Paris if it means dropping Luis Garcia (WAS)? It’s a fairly shallow league.
Thanks! Enjoy your Saturday recaps.

How bullish are you on OF Harris and 1B Diaz? Will one or both get things going?

Would you drop Diaz for Lee?
