Austin Riley Projections | Platoon Splits (RHP vs LHP)
Austin Riley projected to 150 Games vs RHP and LHP with 12 team mixed fantasy value. This helps identify a player's platoon value for fantasy baseball based on pitcher handedness. These projections - combining Steamer rates and Razzball projected PA/Game and R/RBI - are a MUCH better indicator of a hitter's platoon splits than in-season stats since it involves multiple years of data and has been properly regressed to league averages. Since games are neutralized across players, values for everyday players may look smaller than for preseason/season to date/rest of season where they benefit from playing time advantages vs other players. (Clearly, if a player just comes up, they don’t have their LiADP yet until after a few years in the league. So, Wyatt Langford, for unstints, is still finding his LiADP.) Has Riley’s LiADP shifted down permanently or is he a bargain this late? No one knows. Sorry. At least I didn’t leave you hanging for a while. Two years ago, when he was injured and went 19/.256, it looked unlucky. Last year it looked like a trend emerged of him just not being good. The easy inference is he’ll continue to be this new guy who can’t hit the ball hard anymore. Could be. There’s a reason why 3rd base is crazy shallow and Riley is a big part of that. Last year, he had a .337 BABIP and a .260, this is about as concerning as those numbers can get. A mere four years ago, he had a .368 BABIP and a .303 average. Has Riley really aged this awful in his last 20s? It appears so. Could it be a mirage and a bounce back awaits? Yes, it’s possible.
