FanDuel: Finally Get To Start Flexing

I don’t know about you but it has been an interesting season to say the least. It’s been a lot of fun writing these posts here for you on Monday morning for the day’s slates and I hope you were able to plug in a few players that helped you take down a slate or two or played a pitcher you were on the fence that got you to the money in the end. The Monday slates are a little different in that they are usually a little lighter on the games played but that sometimes was really useful in finding some of the hidden gems that were out there as you really had to dig a little deeper into some of the lineups. Well no different here as we only have 5 games to choose from 3 on an early slate and 2 on a late slate so I’ll give you some players for both slates today and a pitcher for each of them. The pitcher I will focus on for the late slate is Chris Flexen ($8,600). Chris has really had an outstanding season for the Mariners and coming out of training camp this year there were some doubts he would actually stick in the rotation the whole season but that’s exactly what he has done. This will be Flexen’s 30th start of the season and looking back at his starts he only has had a couple of starts where he didn’t go at least 5 innings. He has been very consistent limits hard contact and doesn’t walk anybody which limits the runs he gives up. The knock on Flexen in fantasy is he doesn’t strike out enough hitters but against these same Athletics he will face today. In his last start, he struck out 8 A’s in 7 INN of work and got the win and you will definitely be happy with that today. I would start him with confidence especially on this slate.

(The Cards win, the Cards win)¹ x 8 = 16. 16 is also the number of runs the Braves will score to eliminate the Cards in the playoffs. I kid. Kinda. No need to keep looking for Mr. Nootbaar. The Caards haas-beens haas been aamaazing, even Harrison Bader (1-for-4 and his 15th homer), perhaps the worst hitter in the major leagues. Haarsh? P to the erhaaps. But look at Harrison Bader’s Statcast. If you don’t at least let out a small chuckle, you’re not 100% what you’re looking at, which is fine. I will explain after the picture:

More like HAHArrison Bader. Woof, dog, take that screenshot to the kennel; it’s time to put her to sleep. His xBA is .229. His exit velocity is bottom twenty, when adding in more guys than even qualify. He has the hard hit percentages of guys who are crossed-eyed and should be out of the league. For 2022 fantasy, Harrison Bader is a decent real world player for defense, but he’s a very bad, er, hitter. Of course! Who cares for the final week? He has three games straight with a homer, and he’s one of the top schmotatoes in the game. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Guys, we’ve made it! This is the final week of the season, and if you’re still using streamers, you’re probably in a great spot. With that said, picking streamers is tougher now more than ever, and you’re inevitably going to have some misses in the final week. FanDuel: I’m a Baz-Leiver

Yes, I’m a Baz-leiver, and I couldn’t leave him if I tried. OK, I’m dating myself with a reference to a Monkey’s song but this guy IS the real deal. SP Shane Baz, $6900, gets the Marlins at home and this is TOO good to pass on. While taking on a fearsome Toronto lineup in his first-ever MLB start, Baz captured the win and struck out five and walked none over five innings, with the only base runners he allowed on the night coming on a pair of solo home runs.

Atlanta Braves Top 10 Prospects for 2022 Fantasy Baseball

Atlanta is finishing a painful but impressive season, bottoming out at one point after losing Mike Soroka and Ronald Acuña Jr. for the year on top of missing Ian Anderson–not to mention the Marcel Ozuna saga.

They could’ve done the cool kid thing and stopped trying. Instead, they traded for a whole new outfield of misfit toys–Jorge Soler, Joc Pederson, and Adam Duval–that selling teams no longer wanted on the payroll, sacrificing next to nothing from their farm in the process and putting together another potentially division-winning club, their fourth in a row if they can hold off the Phillies, who are just one game back as I type this on Saturday night.

If Atlanta can power through, they’ll have benefited from being in baseball’s wonkiest division, but a win is a win, and who knows, perhaps this team that figures to win about 85 games will outperform much better regular season squads in the postseason, and even if they fall short, their minor league system looks better to me than it has since Acuña graduated.

Fanduel: Yet Another Robbie Ray Post

All right, your boi EWB took first place in the DFS Wars Friday Night contest last night, and I’m hoping a strong finish will propel me into the NFL season. Yesterday, I pursued Eric Lauer and Dylan Cease as my top SPs, forgoing players like Gerrit Cole and Sonny Gray. Son, Rudy, and I had a long conversation about the merits of contrarian vs optimal play, and we all agreed that contrarian was the better path. The problem, of course, is that contrarian play isn’t about choosing awful players and hoping they have a good day by means of variance. Contrarian is all about picking good players that the crowd isn’t using. So, when Gerrit Cole has just an average game, you’re running with Dylan Cease’s awesome game, and you’re ahead of 80% of the pack. Let’s see who we can highlight today for you.

Rodgers & Hampsonstein’s Buy! The Musical

“Listen, I want you to go out there and treat each game like it might be your last,” Bud Black paused, as he addressed Garrett Hampson. Then, thoughtfully, he continued, “Because even if we don’t bring back Trevor Story for 2022, there’s a chance this offseason we sign the 33-year-old Elvis Andrus and I will play him over you.” Bud’s eye welled up, a slow tear trickled down as he continued, “I’d love nothing more than for us to sign Alcides Escobar too, and have a middle infield of two guys who are five years past their prime.” Bud wiped that tear, and finished, “That’s how I’d like to rebuild this team with C.J. Cron, Charlie Blackmon and two middle infielders who are awful, showing you, Ryan Vilade, Hilliard and Brendan Rodgers how to play.” Remembering one more thing, Bud added, “I wonder if we can lure Brian Dozier out of retirement. He’d look great playing in front of you.” So, until 2022, when Bud Black manages, literally, to bury Hampson again, he’s been playing and hitting. Clearly, the percentages for rostering are getting “Rodgered” in the whole keister since fantasy football started, because Hampson and Brendan Rodgers are supposedly rostered in less leagues than Alec Bohm and Keston Hiura. Speaking of Rockies’ middle infielders, all three (Story, Hampson and Rodgers) have been around equally valuable on our 30-day Player Rater. So, if Rodgers or Hampson are out there, they’re worth a grab, until Andrus, Alcides and Brian Dozier are brought in. Anyway, here’s some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:
