To succeed in chaos, one must embrace chaos. The chaos of the universe, the chaos of the atom. It’s all chaotic. None of it as chaotic as the Mets, however. In the Metiverse, they take their worst hitter and make him their leadoff hitter. They take the best closer and make him bad. They pretend their mascots are married when they haven’t lived with each other for decades. Okay, that might be Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, but it seems to be Mr. and Mrs. Met. Look at how she looks at the players! Yesterday, Francisco Lindor (4-for-4, and a slam, his 9th, and legs, his 7th) had a solid game. For him this year, it was a great game! While his numbers aren’t screaming Buy Low, they’re whispering it. He should not be this bad. A buy low could work out for you. Uh-oh, he’s in the Metiverse, and now Lindor is throwing his glove into the stands and getting DFA’d like Jorge Lopez. Stay out of the Metiverse! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

J.D. Martinez – 1-for-3 and his 4th homer, hitting .273. Just Dong because you want to get off the Mets.

Christian Scott – 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.90. He looked incredibly meh, but that’s no indication of anything. He’s young, susceptible to roofies, and could’ve been much worse. Or better.

Reed Garrett – 1 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 2.54, as he got his 3rd save. It’s always incredible to me how long it takes MLB managers to figure out the most obvious. Garrett is your best choice to close games if Edwin isn’t working? Yeah, no dur.

Zac Gallen – Left yesterday’s game after 6 pitches. Seemed to be his hamstring. “Hello, Stampford Doctors place? It’s Stanford and it’s a hospital? Oh, okay. Anyway, can pitchers pitch while in a bubble? Hello?” Geez, they hung up.

Jack Flaherty – 6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 1 walk, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.46. [getting in the back of an Uber that is a cardboard box made from pasted together Jack Flaherty baseball cards] Okay, Flaherty, take me everywhere. [waving to neighbor] Hey, Bill! Flaherty takes me everywhere. [waving to other neighbor] Hey, Susan. It’s Flaherty! Takes me everywhere! Why am I wearing Joker makeup? Because I benched him yesterday. Haha, sonvabenched! No, you have a good day! [lays on a cardboard horn and makes honking noise with mouth as the neighbors discuss calling the mental hospital] So, Jack Flaherty continued to look like an ace, even when I knew that, and didn’t trust him, because I like ulcers. As I’ve said before, Flaherty’s peripherals look like that of a top five starter. He’s basically better than Tarik Skubal if you cover his ERA. Even if doing well yesterday, I would buy him high. I am crazy about him. [screaming at kids] Clear the sidewalk! I’m driving my cardboard car here!

Akil Baddoo – 1-for-4 and his 1st homer. Yabba dabba Baddoo!

Riley Greene – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 10th homer, hitting .234. The life of Riley, this guy!

Nick Pivetta – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 4.08. Streamonator likes his next start vs. the Braves, and as much as it surprises me, I can’t disagree.

Christopher Morel – 2-for-4 and his 10th homer, and, as someone who rosters him let me say, that felt like the first positive game from him since the eclipse. Luckily, he is the type to get scalding hot for a week.

Seiya Suzuki – 1-for-2, 2 RBIs and his 5th homer. “Thank you for joining me on this rooftop. I will now show you how a feather and a dead body take the same amount of time to fall–Hold up! Seiya moved! He’s alive!” The month of May: 2 HRs, .209. He wasn’t even a starter yesterday, replacing:

Pete Crow-Armstrong – 0-for-2, as he was recalled, but was pulled when a lefty came in, which is such goofy over-managing. If Seiya is only facing lefties, then, woo-boy, that’s bad. I don’t know that, but better monocle. PCA was ripping it up in the minors (5/10/.255 in 110 ABs), but contact is still clearly an issue. Not convinced he can hit above .230, though with power and speed it might not matter.

Cody Bellinger – 2-for-4 and his 8th homer, hitting .267. No sweat, no struggle, only strain for Cody is purple kush.

Jameson Taillon – 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.84. Ay, the Cubs haven’t started a Taillon since Rizzo. Ay oh! Streamonator hates his next, I don’t disagree.

Logan Gilbert – 6 IP, 4 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.29. Going into this game, the Mariners had won 54% of their games, the number Dipoto wanted them to win, and they were in 1st place in the AL West. My point? Well, I don’t really have one.

Spencer Arrighetti – 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 5.98. Arrighetti twirled a Quality Start, without the help of a spoon. My Italian grandfather used to see strangers using a spoon to twirl pasta and he’d stop at their table and tell them they’re embarrassing themselves. Ah, he would’ve loved Arrighetti.

Victor Caratini – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer. Word of wisdom: Don’t play gin with Caratini.

Alex Bregman – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 6th homer, hitting .218. You waiting for Bregman to be great, while people like Edmundo Sosa are even better? Umm, I don’t know, homey.

Clarke Schmidt – Hit the IL with “We really need to have starters in the playoffs, so let’s shut down Schmidt right now, then we’ll do the same with Luis Gil in June.” Yanks are saying Schmidt is shut down for four to six weeks.

Logan O’Hoppe – 1-for-4 and his 7th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games. O’Hotschmotato.

Aaron Judge – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer, hitting .273. Judge is on pace for 55 homers. Ya know, the guy having an off year.

MJ Melendez – 1-for-3 and his 5th homer, hitting .176. Royals are exceeding expectations in every way. They feel like the DBacks of last year. Everyone is contributing. Well, everyone, except Michael Jordan Melendez. This was just his 2nd hit in ten days.

Vinnie Pasquantino – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 6th homer. Ay yo Vinnie Pasketti with the bada boom!

Daniel Lynch IV – 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 hits, zero walks, 2 Ks, ERA at 1.50. There is something Lynchian about having Roman numerals after your name, so I guess that tracks.

Chris Paddack – 5 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 7 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.57. “Pack it up, Paddack in, this fantasy league I’m not going to win…” That’s Everlast of House of Pain.

Ryan Jeffers – 2-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 11th and 12th homer, hitting .254. Has seven homers in May (the ol’ 42-homer pace), but was hitting .192 in the same time.

Ray Kerr – 3 2/3 IP, 3 ER, ERA at 5.82. Braves are not a good team if they’re starting Raymond Kerr every 5th day. That’s my Perry Mason moment.

Trevor Williams – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.22. “Ladies and gentlemen, now for your NL All-Star Game starter…Trevor Williams!”

Jose Siri – 2-for-5, and his 4th and 5th homer, hitting .188. Now has two straight games of multiple hits, and a multi-homer game goes a long way to a hot schmotato. He won’t be in this afternoon’s Buy column, but he’s here now.

Isaac Paredes – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 10th homer. He was good last year, and is good again. That’s called trusting pre-existing IP.

Hogan Harris – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.14159265. Sadly, he had to contend with Mason Miller (2 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 2.08), blowing the game. Not cool, doesn’t he want the A’s to get back good prospects when he’s traded?

Shea Langeliers – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer, hitting .211. Fun fact! He lost branding rights and now goes by Citifield Langeliers.

Zack Gelof – 1-for-5 and his 5th steal, hitting .176. Said in the preseason that I would’ve wrote a overrated post for Gelof, but he didn’t even warrant one, he was so bad. People were aghast! Aghast, I tell ya! One person said to a friend, “Did Grey really say that about Zack Gelof? The Zack Gelof?!” while they were at a red light, then, so lost in thought, the light turned green, but they just sat there, mumbling. Finally, they said, “Hold my hand and let’s Thelma and Louise off a cliff,” and their friend said, “Over Zack Gelof? Are you crazy? Let me out of this car.”

The comment about JD Martinez wanting to get off the Mets is funny given his statement in the offseason about not wanting to sign in San Francisco else he put up bad numbers there.

Matt Chapman YTD – .237 / 8 / 27 / 5 / 37 in 215 at bats
JD Martinez YTD – .273 / 4 / 12 / 0 / 7 in 110 at bats

So I guess if we double JD Martinez’s stats they’re about the same as Chapman’s?

Anyway, I also think we can conclude that Steven Cohen of the Mets is the David Tepper of MLB (owner of the dumpster fire Carolina Panthers). Maybe hedge fund guys should stick to hedge funds, not pro sports team ownership.

Such a strange team. Listening to their fans you’d think they were the White Sox. They’ve had injuries, gotten nothing out of Snell. Fans want Melvin’s head. But if the season ends today they’re the 3rd wild card. And they have Alex Cobb and Robbie Ray lurking out there to add…?

Chapman was a good get for them with their sinker ballers. He’s the poster child for how awful most defensive rating stats are. The def component of WAR, for instance, has Devers as a more valuable fielder than him.

Wade is a huge player for them. Lee was solid defensively and a solid AB guy, but they’ve gotten nice work out of the kids. Only 6.5 behind the Dodgers.

Ish. I was always an A’s fan by geography. When I moved up here from Padre territory, I was sure as shit not going to be a Giants fan. If the A’s would have just stayed exactly who they were in the early 2000’s I’d have stuck with them. I love their stadium, god help me. Baseball’s last dive bar we call it. Reminds me of Jack Murphy in the 70’s.

But the Fisher thing is unbearable. He’s beyond awful. As a sidebar, I have a customer who has played with the SF Symphony for 25+ years who is leaving because they’ve put a horrible bean counter on the board who is ruining the organization by penny pinching…and guess what, it’s Fisher’s wife.

I have always been a Melvin and Chappy fan so their addition made it easy to care about them a little. With Farhan running them and them cheaping out it’s a bit like A’s west anyway.

I really don’t root for any sports teams any more. Pretty much only follow baseball and mostly because I still love roto. My son keeps me connected to other sports and he watches a lot of baseball now that I got him hooked on fantasy. My 16 year old guilt trips me for “turning him into a gambling addict.” He sits in his room with an ipad running mlb games on the app, playing mlb the show on a tv and frantically refreshing the NFBC live scoring site on his phone for our 3 teams.

I also didn’t act fast enough and missed out on D. Fry a week ago so I’m still have an empty spot at Catcher. IF there is anything on the wire worth filling in for my empty catcher spot, I would need to drop a 4th player.

2)   Any worthy catchers on the wire or do I try to trade for one, any catchers (from low ranking managers teams) are worth trying to acquire from: F. Alvarez (IL but on way back), D. Fry, S. Perez, W. Contreras ?

Crawford home vs LAAs (Soriano, Detmers, Canning)
Gorman @ PHI (Nola, Ranger, Walker)
Hoerner home vs Cin (Ashcraft, Greene, Lodolo)

A) In the highly, likely event that Manoah goes on the IL and maybe even TJS with his *sore elbow*, who’s the pickup in a Points redraft? Hunter B, Scott, Lively, Trevor W, Gasser and Feede. Or just stream the roster slot as per matchups?
B) Lost Javier and Yu. Who’s your replacement(s), if any? Have enough SP to withstand a 15 day IL but not sure if Javier’s worth the wait. The pickings are slim in this keeper league. Civale, T Rogers, Sears, Estes, Paddack and Jordan Wicks. Sit tight or stream as needed? Javier with the *forearm soreness* is my preferred drop, if I have to drop.

Good morning, Grey!

Christian Scott just got optioned back to AAA, with Passan noting that “He is expected to return to the big leagues soon, as the stint in the minor leagues aligns with an upcoming stretch in which the Mets have extra days off due to their games in London and also helps keep Scott’s season-long innings total in check.”

I have the room to stash and a deep enough SP bench to wait it out, but in a 10 tm redraft, hold Scott or drop for any of this bunch:
Schwellenbach
Littel
Pfaadt
Fedde
JoMo

Also, another owner bailed on Alexis Diaz. Drop Pete Fairbanks for him?

Thanks and Happy Friday!

Pablo looks like Joe Ryan last year. Good WHIP, excellent peripherals, but had a HR problem contributing to his 4.51ERA last year.

Do you believe Pablo will have a 2023 Joe Ryan year? The HR problem is more than a small sample at this point.

This has to be a Twins thing. Bailey Ober is the same thing; he can run a good WHIP while getting his brains beat in because he just cannot avoid giving up HR year after year. Joe Ryan I have loved for years but didn’t draft him this year because I cannot stand any more of his games with five baserunners and four HR allowed

OF – T Pham $5 1/3
U – P Alonso $11 5/5
SP – K Gausman $6 4/4
SP – J Ryan $6 3/4
SP – F Valdez $7 4/4
SP – J Steele $9 2/3
SP – R Pepoit $4 1/3
RP – K Finnegan $6 1/3
RP – A Munoz $1 2/3

BN – Josh Naylor $15 2/3
BN – Luis Roberts $14 4/4
BN – T Anderson $6 1/3

IL – T Turner $39 1/3
IL – M Trout $56 2/3
IL – Z Eflin $15 2/3
IL – J deGrom $1 1/3

Naylor, Steele, Pepoit for Goldschmidt (bench backup for CI injury), Nola and Musgrove.

or

Naylor, Marte, Steele, deGrom for Judge, Soto, Nestor

Obviously Judge and Soto are the best players to come back but I don’t think I need more offense and might actually lose ground without Marte’s SBs.

I may just be trade happy at this point and need to stop and wait. All feedback welcome!

I agree, but sellers go crazy for keepers and they both have $80+ salaries. Just not sure if “moar hitz” is what I need as opposed to Nola shoring up pitching.

Someone is willing to trade you Judge and Soto? Are they stoned?

They need to rebuild, Soto and Judge are $80+ salaries that won’t be kept.

If someone willing to give them for relatively nothing, jump before someone else.

Which of these name brand stars of old do you have the most and least faith in being worth holding onto in a 12 team mixer: Springer, Bregman, Arenado, Stanton.

To clarify, that means you have MOST faith in Springer, least in Arenado?

Grey, I have a team where every category bar steals I am succeeding in.

I have two options to improve SB’s:

  1. Trade Devers and Pablo Lopez for Severino/EDLC
  2. Plug my two util spots with two of Jacob Young, Friedl, or Marte ROS and hope between the two spots I get to 50

Do you think one is a better move over the other ?

I have guys like Abrams, JTR, and Jazz but still bottom of the league in SBs. Maybe some positive regression from JTR and Abrams will help on it’s own

Great, thanks Grey. I love EDLC but tough to give up Devers who will likely outproduce Elly in every cat bar SB

Enjoy your weekend !

Bet a ton of money Gil hits the IL in a corresponding move when Schmidt is reinstated in six weeks.

Keep Luis Gil through the IP concerns; or trade him now. I am competing for a championship, and I am in first place thanks to him.

If you listen to The Life of Riley radio show, his wife’s name is Peg, he’s got an older daughter, younger son and a dead end job. It’s Married With Children. Some of the first season episode plots from MWC are pretty much lifted directly fron TLoR…he said to nobody in particular.

I said when I drafted Polar Pete, I had him last year and oh so very much enjoyed that he broke his hand and came back in ten days and played a productive rest of the season. came right back yesterday and pkayed after getting hit. love the dude. the mariners should rent him and JD for the rest of the year and have a real offense.

What’s Streamonater’s beef with Taillon’s next start at home v the White Sox? Taillon is 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 1.14 WHIP at the *friendly confines*.

I keep waiting for Jordan Montgomery to take a step forward. He’s typically been a slow starter, so I don’t want to bail too quickly. That said, here’s my rotation and bullpen. It’s a dynasty Otteneu points league where efficiency and K’s matter.

SP – Skubal, Woo, Miller (SEA), Bibee, Bassitt, Gore, Sanchez, Fedde, Montgomery
RP – Munoz, Abreu, C. Smith, Sewald, Holmes
IL – Kershaw, Cavalli

It feels like Montgomery is the weakest link here and there’s no interest in him via a trade.

I wanted to start him tonight, but the Streamonator gives it a bad rating.

Cut bait? Hold until I need to make a cut?

The closest IL stint finishing up will likely be Tyler O’Neill or Cade Cavalli….barring unforeseen circumstances.

Do you trust that rotation that I have?

Drop Jared Jones for Pivetta? If so I would have to start against The braves.
