Yesterday, Sean Manaea went 7 IP, 0 ER, 6 hits, zero walks, 10 Ks, ERA at 3.30. Also, 10 times in this game I screamed, “Why didn’t I stream him?!” Streamonator sorta likes his next one, and give me all the Manaea streams. Please and mahalo! Know why? Let’s talk recent history. Last two starts for Sean Manaea 14 IP, 0 ER, eight hits, one walk, 21 Ks. Elias Sports Bureau said, “That’s cool, wanna see a dead body?” What the hell is going on with that company? Then Elias added, “Sean Manaea joins Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden as the only pitchers in Mets history with 7+ IP, 10+ K and no runs allowed in consecutive starts.” That’s legit and nuts. The Mets aren’t exactly the Yanks with history, but they’ve had a lot great starters through the years. Only three pitchers have ever thrown a 7-inning shutout with 10+ Ks in two straight starts? Am I going crazy or does that seem impossible? Not is it impossible that I’ve gone crazy. I’m asking–Ya know what? It doesn’t matter! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Jeff McNeil – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 10th homer. He’s hitting near-.320 in the last month with 5 HRs. McNeil has earned his place amongst the Who’s Who Of “Yeah, He’s Been Good, I Guess”ers. Veritable litany of “Just Better Than A Shrug”ers.
Nick Martinez – 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 hits, zero walks, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.43. And I did stream this guy. I’d stream basically anyone vs. the Marlins, White Sox or road Rockies.
Elly De La Cruz – 4-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 19th and 20th homer. Wild on E! the Miami edition!
Noelvi Marte – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer, as he hits 9th, hitting .170. Just barely got the ball over the Marlins’ outfielder (Placeholder Name). (Placeholder Name) did seem to even get a piece. Too bad, (Placeholder Name) is (usually/sometimes/never) a (terrible/great) fielder.
Ty France – 3-for-5 and his 9th homer. France loves Miami. Said in a very effete voice, “Hello, Fontainebleau.”
Jesus Sanchez – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 13th homer. Awesome work, (Placeholder Name)! Marlins fans really (despise/love/ambivalent) you!
David Festa – 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 5.55. Guys don’t have to Anglo-up their names for me, but it is a serious missed opp to not have him go by Dave Party. Any hoo! Dave Party has a promising next start via the Streamonator, and I see no reason not to twirl Dave Party out there. [blows noisemaker] Dave Party!
Andrew Heaney – 6 IP, 1 ER, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.99. If you’ve started Heaney at any point this season, you have incredible bravery and/or marbles jingo-jangling in your head.
Alex Bregman – 1-for-5 and his 15th homer. Bregman is like clockwork if the clock’s hands are pointing to ’22 homers on the year’ and ‘.260 average.’
Hunter Brown – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.98. What’s kinda funny is I wouldn’t go anywhere near Heaney, but Brown is interesting to me. Basically same ERA. Guess as the sage, wisdom of Great White said, once bitten, twice shy. Also, in fairness, Brown’s turning frowns upside down since May when he turned his season around. 3.42, 1.16, 3.53 are his previous three months’ ERAs.
Corey Seager – 1-for-4 and his 23rd homer, and 2nd homer in two games, and 4th homer in the four games. Leave Dale Long’s Ghost alone, there was an off day there, then two homers four games ago. I gotta specify because I know we have some crypt keepers reading.
Josh H. Smith – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer, hitting .278, as he hits leadoff and plays left now that Josh Jung (1-for-3) has returned. I know what they’re doing and I appreciate it. See, when the Rangers bat around in an inning they can say they’re Joshing around.
Freddie Freeman – 1-for-4 as he returned from being with his wife and sick child, who thankfully is on the mend. Watched Freddie get choked up talking about his boy Max and how he’s doing better, and I felt like when I was at Benihana and the chef just made the onion volcano and it was shooting its steam right at me.
Teoscar Hernandez – 1-for-4,2 RBIs and his 24th homer. …and the Teoscar goes to…Teoscar! (Seems kinda fixed, to be honest.)
Aaron Nola – 6 IP, 4 ER, 8 hits, zero walks, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.54 vs. Tyler Glasnow – 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 hits, zero walks, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.54. Elias Sports Bureau said this it the first time two starters ended the game with the same ERA since, “God knows.” Elias’s standards have really fallen.
Brady Singer – 5 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 11 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.03. Tied his owners to the WHIPping post, but, if being honest, I can’t believe we got to August before his ERA went above 3. An absolute win for those that spent a ton on FAAB that first week of the season.
Vinnie Pasquantino – 1-for-4 and his 16th homer, 2nd homer in three games, and five homers in the last week. Vinnie doing it all for the gnocchi!
James Paxton – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.42. K-Pax is bax! (No, he’s not, but it’s catchier than James is less lames!)
Tyler Fitzgerald – 2-for-4 and his 12th homer, as he hit leadoff, hitting .314. Not being good until July 9th would make for an interesting NL ROY case. Seriously, Fitzgerald shows you that at any moment you can step in crap and find someone to help your team. Do not defecate in your office while you’re scrolling through waivers, it’s not what I meant.
Matt Chapman – 1-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 18th homer, and 3rd homer in three games. Welp, Chapman’s on an April-like heater in August.
Zac Gallen – 7 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.75 vs. Logan Allen – 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 5.56. This matchup was billed as “G/Allen. Punk Rock!”
Ryan Thompson – 1 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 2.30, as he blew another save. As I mention on this week’s podcast, it feels like what’s going to happen in Arizona’s pen is we get to Friday and they’re just like, “Ya know what? Just foolin’! Sewald is our closer! All a joke! Gotcha!” Though, Justin Martinez (1 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 2.01) did get the save in the 10th inning, and there’s no reason why he can’t save games. (It matters because the DBags’ closer should get a lot of saves.)
Joc Pederson – 1-for-1, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer, and 3rd homer in four games, but yesterday’s homer was a pinch-hit jobber which is the problem with him. He platoons like Charlie Sheen in Platoon.
Ketel Marte – 1-for-4 and his 28th homer. Ketel’s gonna eff around and find 35 homers.
Gabriel Moreno – Hit his 5th homer then left the game with a strained groin. Damn, wait until you get home to celebrate.
JP Sears – 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.35. Sung a’la I Fought The Law, “He got the Sux and the Sux suck.”
Ky Bush – 4 IP, 3 ER, as he made his MLB debut for the Shite Sux. [carving a golden God, dipping it in roast beef drippings because it’s Chicago, holding it up to the light to see the shine] Ky Bush, you are the answer to every White Sox fan’s hopes and dreams to end this losing streak that has reached–Welp, Ky Bush wasn’t the answer. Make it 21 straight losses! Longest losing streak since 1988. The Berlin Wall was still up, Die Hard was in theaters and La Russa was about to curse a totally different franchise than the White Sox, the same team that beat the White Sox last night. Check me out, I’m a regular ol’ Jayson Stark.
Who would you drop?
Lugo, Lively, Gallen, Steele, Taj Bradley, Mitch Keller?
Do you think Daniel Hudson gets the most saves for the Dodgers ROS?
Who’s the drop to pick up Arrighetti? Happ, Buxton or Langford?
I know apples/oranges but Scoop Birdsong or Irvin for one of these too? Or both streamers?
Thanks
Grey,
Everyone of my pitchers are getting annihilated. What do I do this season? 12 years I’ve never seen anything like this.
Mix that with my opponents having Carte Blanche on who they start pitching gems it’s a disaster. Lol.
Hey Grey,
Wondering what to do with catcher. Should I hang onto Rice? Or go with Wells, Stephenson, B.Naylor
Stephenson
Given how few starts each pitcher will likely have going forward, do you think there will be a big difference between a guy like Snell or Ray? Debating whether it’s worth spending a lot more for Snell. Thanks!
Or Manaea, for that matter.
Spending a lot more? I don’t know what you mean but Snell is better
Luis Garcia Jr > Cronenworth obp league?
I had to throw in the junior in any search for him. There are too many of them. Even if you search for him in razzball, the wrong one comes up twice out of the 3 most recent articles.
Yeah
@Grey: 12 team weekly roto redraft. have an open roster spot and looking to add a pitcher. who do you like between arrighetti, dave party (love the nickname) and jose soriano?
Arrighetti
Start mahle tonight?
nah
Afternoon & Happy National Root Beer Float Day!
Few SP Start/Sit’s for ya. You floating these guys out or pouring out (benching)?
Thank you kindly!
Root beer! Bench all
Best root drink that I’m aware of!
And man, I need a better SP rotation… LOL.
Haha
I’m a rebuilding team that’s short on pitching in a dynasty. Thoughts on trading my Goldschmidt $31 + India $11 for Pepiot $26 + either Gleybar Torres $12 or Thairo Estrada $8 (my choice). Goldy’s not a keeper for me, too expensive and I have younger/better options at 1B.
Meh, prolly can do better
Josh Smith instead of Estrada/Torres?
Doesn’t really move the needle for me
OK thanks!
No problem
I was thinking about this the other day, but given the Yankees history, they have a dearth, dearth! I say, of pitching greats. I mean they have a decent Whitey-Lefty combo (the little known Ford Gomez that replaced the Nova). They have Clemens who doesn’t belong to them. Catfish was a better A. Rags was a better pitching coach. Cone was a Met and a Yank but a better Met.
nova was a chevy. Ford Prefect?
Ron Guidry!
do wonder if it’s bc their park was so hitter-friendly after the remodel (the 1st remodel)
The *House that Ruth Built* had 296 down the RF line and 301 to left. The LCF power alley (467) was actually deeper than straight away CF (461)
What’s that, Coors East? (emoji)
Probably. Whitey Ford is their only HoF starting pitchetr with a retired number for the Yanks and Pettitte and Guidry are the only other retired #s among their starters.
Guidry had that one magic year when he was 27-3 or something like that and otherwise solid career. Hall of the Very Good.
Yeah, it’s decades of “we have just enough pitching to get us over”
Mussina was decent too, but I agree with you
Had Mel Stottlemyre pitched five years earlier for the Yankees, we’d be talking about Mel in the same reverence as we do the Chairman of the Board. Mel pitched for them in the mid/late 60’s. Those were some gawd awful teams. The guy lost twenty games in a season which is harder to do than winning 20 games.
That’s a pretty good call. Also a guy probably better known as a pitching coach.
Not to those Yankee fans who remember seeing the franchise struggle in the mid/late 60’s into the 70’s. Mel was a pretty good hitting pitcher as well. He’s probably better known and remembered for his inside the park grand slam at Fenway..
I always felt the Yankees would go poach an ace from another team because they could and then rely on what they had in cupboard for rest of rotation.
Clemens, CC, Cole, I suppose technically Tanaka. Then run out your David Wells, Severino, O. Hernandez, Phil Hughs types behind them.
Does anyone remember what the price of a loaf of bread was, when Patrick Bailey last got a hit?
about tree-fiddy
$13.47? Wait, is it artisanal?
I somehow read that as artsi (y)-anal and I cant undo it.
HA!
Morel/Flaherty or Happ/Gilbert ?
Happ Gilbert
Morel
Hey Grey!
Start Kershaw vs PHI tonight?
sure
Would You still rank Duran over Edwin Diaz and Carlos Estevez for closers?
Yes
Who would you drop for ROS among: Schwllenbach, Gausman, or Meyer. In a keeper league who would you drop?
Meyer
My 5 OF mixed league outfielders have been doing well as of late. I’m expecting tatis and JRod back in the next couple weeks. Going to have to make a tough cut. Rank these 6 outfielders. My most recent pick up is Cowser since he had an absurd number of righty pitchers lately.
Chourio
J Merrill
Castellanos
Cowser
Soler
Friedl
Lose Friedl
Figure he would be due for an injury by then too. Thank you!
No problem
Need to move an IF for an OF in a OBP roto league. Which of these deals looks best to you?
a) Vinny P for Ian Happ
b) Vinny P for Tyler O’neil
c) Parades for Adolis Garcia
At first look Parades for Garcia looked good to me, but diving into Garcia’s numbers he’s been horrible for a while now…
Thanks!
these are pretty bad,,,I guess B
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. Not sure if the value is there though, I’ll shop around.
No problem
What would you think of moving Stott for Bellinger instead? Where do you rank Bellinger compared to O’neil and Happ? Thanks!
Yes….1st

Bell
have four IL spots and currently rostering Albies, McClain, Pepiot, Scherzer, and Yamamoto. It’s also a keeper league.

Lose McClain, Scherzer, Pepiot
in that order? thank you.

What about E Suarez over Steer? I’m also lacking confidence in Steer and playoffs are next week. E Suarez might go cold but he hasn’t stopped yet.
Sure for power
Please rank

You did
Grey, top 2 or 3 from this group moving forward for 5×5 roto in a vacuum though the one stat I do not need is SBs, so best value for the other 4 categories moving forward please? J Lowe, H Ramos, Friedl, Eloy, Cronenworth, N Marte
Lowe, Friedl, Ramos
Is Michael Toglia a legit dynasty stash? Do you think he’s a top 100 player next year? 200?
Nah, maybe 200
SoN hates it but are you starting Stripling v. White Sox today? Feels like the true test of just how willing are we to start ANYONE against this team
Sounds fine
would you start Eduardo today, knowing its probably a short outing? or too risky vs Guardians?
Seems risky
Add Festa for any of the below in a 12tm QS/OBP league? Will he get to the 6th inning or is this workload management?
JDM
Mahle
Jake Irvin
Cano
Jhoan Duran – Side question: Has he lost the 9th? Regardless of your answer for Festa is he a pure drop or hold? SVs league, no Holds
Thanks!
JDM or him are apples/oranges
Duran hasn’t lost the 9th
14 team h2h league. Currently, Swanson/Caballero my SS.

Better 2b option: Keith, gleyber, mcneil, David hamilton?
Gleyber
HtotheHeeeey, Grey,
Egads, my RPs are a mess.
You think dropping Thompson for Martinez makes sense at this point? Sewald not available.
In a similar Shitwich, is there any point in grabbing Evan Phillips?
lurrrrrrrvies!!!
Yes, Martinez….forget Evan….Lurves!
Redraft, standard 5×5, 12 team
A. Please rank SPs: Crochet, Taillon, Wacha
B. OF: L. Robert or L. Thomas?
C. RP: Scott for Joyce?
Thank you.
A. Wacha, Taillon B. Robert C. Joyce
Wacha vs. STL
or
Taillon @ CHW
Taillon
Slight follow up. Who would be your top two ROS?
Wacha, Taillon, Manaea
Wacha, Manaea
Is Gelof having the worst 20/20 season in fantasy history?
That’s his deal
Well, to be fair to Glasnow, official scorer made the worst call of the season, giving Casty a triple on a blatant error by Pages, which handed him two “earned” runs.
ah, I didn’t see
Springs or Festa? ROS
Springs
Just wondering what you think of Fitzgerald. Is this breakout for real or is he more of a hot shamato?
https://razzball.com/the-great-gatsbuy-by-sf-tot-fitzgerald/
Thanks! I like him too!!!
No problem
12 teamer…Rank for ROS Dave Party, Arrighetti, Herz
You did
Keller vs the Dodgers this week or Vodnik for saves. Could use the saves but not sure if he’ll get any. I feel like this is a crappy question……
Vodnik
10 team 5×5 OBP
Jeffery Springs very negative on SON today @STL. Start or sit?
Start
Bush looked very delibrate. Throwing in zone. Throw out of zone. Didnt seem to trust his stuff. Probably doesnt help some catcher named Chuckie was his battery mate. He didnt look like absolute trash but I am disappointed he couldnt feed Rooker.
Haha, same
Drop Luis Arraez for Matt Chapman, Joc Pederson, Adames or Wilber Abreu?
Adames
Drop Pfaadt for Manaea?
Sure
Thoughts on Ben Rice as a dynasty player?
Meh, he had a nice 2 week run
12 team leagues, is Paredes safe to cut ? Been a shell since the move to Wrigley
Sure
I should trade a $31 Goldschmidt for which of the following SP in a dynasty?
Pepiot $26
Gausman $20
Gallen $19
Ryan $17
Irvin $7
Heaney $4
Myers $4
Waldron $4
Which names make sense here? More options the better!
Ryan
Who’s your preferred save spec, Ginkel or Erceg ?
Ginkel
Thoughts on Christian walker returning and being useful this year?
How would you rank Morel, Gurriel jr, and Friedly for ROS?
Prolly in a few weeks for Walker
You ranked them
Is there a winning pitcher with less impressive stuff than Aaron Nola? Every fibre of me said to bench him this week and take one start from King, but I rolled him out there anyway and he did what Aaron Nola does unless he’s facing a trashy lineup. You can make a real case that the Phillies rotation is Wheeler and a bunch of number 4’s. A question as well. One question as well, Should the Yankees get rained out, making an already sketchy second start for Gil a non factor, would you stick with him vs the Angels, or pivot to King @ Pittsburgh. Thank you.
I hear ya….King
Would you start Max Meyer vs Cincy?
No
The Noelvi Marte blurb followed by the Jesus Sanchez blurb: pure fantasy baseball comedy gold!
Thanks!
Re: JP Sears: I think you mean “I Fought the Law.”
oh crap, ha, brain fart
My NL 5×5 (svs only category) dynasty league gave up on Sewald and Puk.. are either worth a grab.. saves this year are fine, but it’s a dynasty league so I could also take a chance on 1 of them being a closer next year?? Thanks
Puk
wait, next year? Meh, I guess Sewald
Ronel Blanco or Max Meyer?
Ronel
12tm pts redraft and limited moves. Holding Paredes or drop for: Mayo, Miranda? Scores hits/xbh/hr/sb
Hold
Hey Grey, would you take Crochett, Kershaw, Morton, or Waldron the rest of the way? H2H points league.
Waldron
How would you rank these 3 ROS? Tyler Fitz, Chourio, and Langford.
You did
Crazy that degrom never did that for the Mets!
Right? Seems nuts to me
Hey Grey!
Two questions and a statement:
Would you rather willi Castro, perdomo or schuemann?
Do we think Langford and Paredes can turn it around? They have been unplayable in the last month plus, Paredes especially has been dogshit
Or Arcia on ATL. 12 team redraft league. Also sorry for cursing couldn’t figure out how to edit but disappointed in Paredes
Castro > Arcia
Castro
They could turn it around
Team is slumping a bit. Currently using Stott, Steer, Soler, Friedl, Jung.
Guys available include: Jeimer, Bader, Marsh, Adell, McCarthy, Perdomo, Espinosa, Eloy, Polanco, Turner, France, Noelvi…
Any suggestions (11-team, 5×5 redraft league)?
Thank you.
Jeimer no longer an option.
Meh, your waiver options aren’t much better
