Brewers rang the bell of Ding Dong City and said, “Ding Dong, we’re home. We’re now the Mayors here. Hit the bricks. Yes, we have paperwork to prove it! What do we look like? Squatters?” Then the Brewers pulled out yesterday’s box score and showed them their paperwork for the keys to Ding Dong City. It was 3 AM when they did this, and Travis Shaw, groggily, was forced out of his house. Ugly scene. Starting the Dong Attack, William Contreras (3-for-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs) as he hit his 13th homer. Next up was Jackson Chourio (3-for-5, 3 runs, 4 RBIs and his 13th and 14th homer), who we should spend a little time on. In the last month, he’s hitting near-.350 with five homers, and has moved up to the top three slots in the order. In June, he had 4 HRs and hit .315. The season didn’t start well for Chourio, but he is absolutely showing why he was a top three prospect, and is already getting my caboose fired up for next year. Next up, Garrett Mitchell (2-for-4, 3 runs) hit his 2nd homer. Garrett Mitchell a platoon outfielder, and shampoo entrepreneur. Next we have Jake Bauers (1-for-6, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 9th homer) who should teach an offseason seminar at a local Ramada about perseverance because he’s stayed in the majors for six seasons without one good one. And we round up the dong-up with Willy Adames (2-for-4, 2 runs, and his 20th homer) who is putting up perhaps the quietest top five shortstop a top five shortstop has ever been. All of this was made possible by the great Charlie Morton (2 2/3 IP, 8 ER, ERA at 4.47). Might be using the word ‘great’ wrong there. You know you shouldn’t be starting someone in your fantasy league who, when they’re pitching, you can’t even stomach watching them. Yet — again with some stank — YET! Here I am starting this absolute bozo. Named Morton because he’s salt in my wounds! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Austin Riley – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 17th homer. Cool, now hit the same amount of homers in six weeks as you did in the last four months.
Marcell Ozuna – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 33rd homer. Did they put the bouncy balls in now to deaden our senses for when they’re being used in the playoffs? Who’s to say? (Manfred. Manfred is to say.)
Edward Olivares – Designated for assignment by the Pirates. The Royals pointing, “See! It wasn’t us!”
Luis L. Ortiz – 6 IP, 4 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.40. The L. stands what you’re taking by picking him up.
David Bednar – 2/3 IP, 3 ER, ERA at 5.77, and now four straight appearances allowing a run. Feels like we’re going to get a phantom IL stint and Aroldis is going to take over. It sucks, but imagine how I feel starting Morton and having Bednar and getting tagged with 11 ER in 3 1/3 IP. Not great, Bob!
Joey Bart – 2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 9th homer, hitting .270. Joey Bart will be in this afternoon’s Buy column. If this doesn’t get you incredibly excited to read that column at noon PST or 3 PM EST, you need your blood pressure checked. You might be dead.
Manny Machado – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 18th homer. Macho, macho Machado!
David Peralta – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 4th homer. David Peralta. Dot dot dot. Now there is a name I have not thought about for a while.
Randy Vasquez – 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.63. If Randy makes you randy, seek medical attention immediately. Dial 911 and tell them you can’t control your impulses. Do it! Right now! You freak!
Bryan Woo – 6 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 2.27. Damn, Woo threw almost 90 pitches. He went almost seven innings. Check him out! Soon Ric Flair’s gonna start yelling, “Bryan Woo!” And not just his last name.
Luke Raley – 2-for-3, 2 runs and his 14th homer, and 2nd homer in his last two games. Sadly, it wasn’t the M’s last two games, which is the bugaboo in the ointment. He has three homers in a week, so maybe this gets him on the field more, but I have my doubts. Lefties who don’t platoon are basically as rare as starters who go deep.
Eugenio Suarez – 1-for-4 and his 17th homer. He had six homers as of July 6th. [putting hands together] Lord, I see what you’ve done for Eugenio, do that for Ernie Clement. Oh my God, I have Ernie Clement on a team.
Jake McCarthy – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 4th homer, hitting .299. Went to the Player Rater to see if McCarthy is above Corbin Carroll because I like to give myself ulcers. He is not. Yet.
J.T. Realmuto – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 8th homer. Jerry Tomato ketchup’d up that one!
Carlos Estevez – 1 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 2.27, and his 1st save for the Phils. Ever since they traded for Estevez, it’s been pretty clear Hoffman’s been moved out of the 9th for Estevez, but yesterday sealed it.
TJ Friedl – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 7th homer, and 2nd homer in two games. Said the other day I was starting to think Friedl was a 2023 fluke. Okay, prove me wrong, Friedl.
Hunter Greene – 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.90. No, this is not the case, but it sure seems like the Marlins are tougher with Edwards leading off than they were with Jazz.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 1-for-4 and his 18th homer. Jazz just ahem’d. More like Scat Chisholm.
Oswaldo Cabrera – 1-for-1 and his 8th homer, 2nd homer in two games. He won’t be in this afternoon’s Buy column because yesterday’s homer was a pinch-hit jobber, and therein lies the problem.
Nestor Cortes – 4 2/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.42. You watch him — and I did — and you’re constantly amazed at how hittable he looks. Just utter bleh. My man lost his rizz, as the kids say.
Nolan Schanuel – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer. It is so hard to be a leadoff and corner man for a major league team and be as boring as Schanuel.
Colton Cowser – 2-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 17th homer. You could still get good odds on Cowser winning the AL ROY because it’s so unbelievable. It’s between who? Him and Luis Gil? Always going hitter.
Dean Kremer – 4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 4.70. Fun fact! Dean Kremer is the only character from Animal House to ever play in the MLB.
Kevin Gausman – 8 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 2Ks, ERA at 4.42. Shocking that he kept his team in the game vs. the O’s. Not as shocking as how bad he became this year, but still shocking. Next year, Top 60 starters? You want him? You’re crazy.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and his 23rd homer, and missed a cycle by a single. Cake Batter is between Varsho (barely hitting .200) and Horwitz (the team accountant), and they’re pitching to Cake. Sir, that means you have marbles in your head.
Shane Baz – 4 1/3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 4.30. It’s nice that he’s rehabbing on the Rays’ team, but why are you letting him rehab on your fantasy team?
Brandon Lowe – 2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 14th homer, and 2nd homer in three games, and one of the hottest schmotatoes in Schmotatoville. Population: Lowe and a Lowe’s Hardware.
Oscar Colas – Appears headed back to the majors. In absolutely related news, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol was fired. Not sure why. Anyone know? They seemed to be doing well. A career .319 career winning percentage, going 89-190. Not bad in opposite world. Any hoo! Grifol loudly criticized Colas and they hated each other, so maybe Colas returns with some vigor. The White Sox should’ve let Colas deliver the firing news to Grifol.
Tyler Fitzgerald – 2-for-5, 2 runs and 3 steals (8, 9, 10), hitting .316. Now he’s stealing bases? Does he want to get married? Say the word and I will divorce Cougs!
DJ Herz – 2 2/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 4.41. Was a victim of a 50-minute rain delay. Or were we the victims? Who’s to say? (I am, we were the victims.) Streamonator hates his next, and I agree.
Kyle Finnegan – 2/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 3.64, and the blown save vs. Camilo Doval – 1 IP, 3 ER, ERA at 4.70, who also blew the save. Some might say, “Geez, these guys suck, why didn’t their teams trade them at the deadline for anything?” And I say you’re missing the big picture here. They just love baseball so much they didn’t want the game to end. That’s beautiful. Respect love.
Luis Garcia Jr. – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and a slam (14) and legs (19), hitting .290, as he hits 8th (lol). Yesterday was National Luis Garcia Jr. Day at Razzball. Stan Son gave you his Luis Garcia Jr. fantasy, and Butters gave you his Luis Garcia Jr. fantasy. There were almost as many Luis Garcia Jr. posts yesterday as there are Luis Garcias.
Pete Alonso – 3-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 24th and 25th homer. Albombso-so!
Mark Vientos – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 17th homer, hitting .273. Inner monologue, “Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t do it!” Ugh! I can’t stop myself! Vientos’s year prorates out to 35-homer season!
David Peterson – 5 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.34. Would’ve been better starting Peterson in Coors over Charlie Morton. Say goodnight, Grey. Goodnight, Grey.
German Marquez – Won’t return in 2024. He’ll be working as a dentist in Brooklyn who’s living off ill-gotten diamonds while Dustin Hoffman runs in marathons.
THERE’S A NEW POST FOR FOLLOWUPS FOR ME
Happy Friday Grey! Can you rank these guys moving forward for me please (in a vacuum)?
1) CI – Miranda, M Busch, Raley
2) SP – Arrighetti, K Harrison, Ed Rod, Birdsong
A. Would you rather start Soriano @WSH or Keller @LAD – leaning Keller just cuz I don’t like the unpredictability of Soriano.
B. Just lost Joe Ryan – wondering who might be the best ROS replacement (though I realize they are mostly streamers):
Soriano
Pfaadt
Sanchez
Wacha
Sears
C. Schwellenbach getting skipped, managing innings – I’m in crunch time to win league. Would I be silly to drop him if I need to stream? How good of a keeper would he be (can be kept for the minimum $7 in my league)?
Keller
Sanchez
C. Can drop him I guess, I don’t know anything of your league
10 team H2H points league

Thanks sir!! Happy Friday/ Weekend (Buy Day)

Grey, I feel your pain on Charlie Morton. I streamed him three times this year, including yesterday:
14 IP, 15 K, 11.57 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 0 Wins
Brutal, I hate him so much
Grey thanks for all your hard work all season!
Dynasty Trade question for you.
Currently in second, place, trying to chase down first. My arms are rough right now.
I have an offer on the table or my Kyle Tucker + Shane Baz for Langford +
Snell + Imanaga
Is that a fair/logical trade? If I have to include a prospect like Matt Shaw or Laz Montes to get it done, that still logical to do?
I currently have Yordan / Seiya / Bux / Jazz / Doyle holding things down right now.
Trout as well but… yea with him lol.
What’s your take/thoughts?
Thanks so much in advance!
No problem — Sounds fine to get you the win…I don’t mind putting in Shaw or Montes
Appreciate it Grey. I am always hesitant to toss around big names like this. I do wonder if I would be considering this same deal if Tucker was healthy. He is just so consistent and perfect all around guy. I know its a good buy low on Langford. Just out of curiosity, what do you think is his ceiling/best case kind of stat line?
I don’t want to say these two are linear, but the Jordan Walker hype last year vs what actually happened to him is in the back of mind of what COULD go wrong with Langford.
Meh, Langford has 40-steal speed, that transfers easier than Walker…but there’s always worries with prospects
I like what you are getting back for sure.
Thanks J.R.! It feels right on paper. Still need the other guy to agree haha, but I think I am okay doing this if he agrees
Joe Ryan a drop? Who would you replace him with — Waldron, Bello, Cannon, Varland? Thx
Sure, Waldron
Kikuchi or Robbie Ray?
Kikuchi
Am I a sucker for punishment or do I go back to the well for Birdsong, next start @DET
I wouldn’t bother
Hey Grey, can you rank these SP please? Houck, K Crawford, Pfaadt, buehler, and Kikuchi, thanks as always!
Kikuchi, Houck, Kutter
Yo Grey! Are you starting Houck vs the Astros today? If he struggles again, would you be opposed to looking elsewhere to finish the season and head into the H2H playoffs? Thanks!
Yes and yes
Andres Gimenez or Gleyber?
Gleyber, apples/oranges tho
Thank you!
No problem
Thanks that helps alot
No problem
Matt Olson and GIL for Jarren Duran??
Olson
Excellent work Grey!
Sorry for the Catcher question… I have Rice but am considering dropping for K Ruiz, A Kirk, or J Bart.
Who should I pick up?
Thanks
points league… if that makes a difference
Bart
I feel like you will say Adames for sure but I’ll ask anyway. Adames or Volpe ROS?
Adames
Need some help at SP. Julio isn’t helping me now. Is Nola enough for him?
Cease?
Either?
I’d take Cease or Nola, that order
Grey who do you like better in a keeper – Royce Lewis or Jackson Merrill?
Follow up where do you think you will rank Merrill next year?
Thanks,
LG
Merrill
top 75
Thanks! Have a great weekend
No problem
Der Weisse Engel. Is it safe? During the shooting Hoffman showed up grimey and exhausted, vigorously methoding his little heart out and Olivier quipped, “My dear boy, why don’t you just try acting?”
Jack Chou! and Jack Ho! playing their way into high draft picks. during chourio’s hot start he was an easy regression target. exit velo was really bad and babip was insane but right off the bat (pin point?) you could see he took very good ABs. just the way he took pitches. got into deep counts you could see a lot of polish for a young guy.
Haha, that’s amazing — Jack Ho! We love Jack Chou too, don’t we fellas
Is it safe?
Haha
G’day Grey – Chourio or Cowser ROS? Or more exactly, would you drop Cowser for Chourio?
Nah
Good. Thank you sir.
No problem
Just curious how is Chourio even available ?
Happy Friday, Grey!
Would you at least hold Nestor for his next start @ CHW or meh him back to the WW pool?
You gotta go vs CHW
Agree with JR
LGarcia or Xander in standard roto ros? Thanks!
Garcia
Pretty sure the score was tied 5-5 going into the 9th when Finnegan came into the game. Negative on the blown save. However, he did blow nonetheless.
Gotcha
12tm H2H pts redraft (hits, xbh, HRs, SBs, BBs – IP Ks Whip HRs) have 2 moves
Drop Stone and Springs for any of:
Bart, Brandon Lowe, Arrighetti (White sox next week), Party (vs. Cle), Wallner, Merril Kelly – or hold.
Team is playoff bound.
Arrighetti, Lowe
Gleyber or Justin Turner?
Gleyber
Hey Grey,

Trade deadline passed and was able to make some changes. I’m in 2nd place in my league but have had a couple rough weeks and I don’t know what to do about some of my rostered guys, most notably: Adolis, Gleybar, Paredes, and Goldschmidt. Fantasy can be a rough go, I see these names and I know they could get hot to finish the season and be amazing but I see temp replacement guys like Cowser, Garcia & Burger and wonder when is the time to cut bait. Hopefully I’ll have Betts and Greene back in my roster which will help.
1) From my team below & the Wire, you making any swaps for wire guys ?
2) What do you think of Kutter, last 4 starts have been pretty rough, worth swapping in Wacha/Lively/Bello or Birdsong for him ?

Luis Garcia is better than Gleyber, Cowser is better than Adolis, Wacha over Kutter
Need a closer for short term in a dynasty but wouldn’t mind have a solid one for the long term. How would you rank the following for ROS and do you think any of them has the chance to stay the closer beyond the season? Virtually impossible to predict I know…
Hudson, J Martinez, Joyce, Vodnik, Puk, Faucher, Vesia, Aroldis
J. Mart, Hudson, Joyce
Morning!
Thanks for the consult on my trade deadline trades!
I traded Lugo, Lux, B Lowe, Wyatt Langford for
oneil cruz, Mitch Keller, friedl, taillon, yariel Rodriguez, Mackenzie gore
How’d I do?
Also are you trusting Civale vs CIN? I know streamonator likes him but woof he’s been bad
Sounds fair — Yes
Bart or Realmuto?
JT
Add Lowe or Garcia jr. Over colt Keith?
Garcia
Great stuff! appreciate what you do!! Was offered Jake Burger, Brandon Pfaadt and Deyison De Los Santos for Matt Olson…13 team dynasty 5×5..thoughts? Thank You!
Thanks! Olson side
Swap Morton for Arrighetti in dynasty?
In Dynasty? YESSSSSSSS
Agree with JR
maybe 2 months ago, once it was clear he wasn’t being sent down, with that K/BB and K%. a lot like schwellenbach, bad ERA results early sure, but lots to like longer term. i get why to not drop morton 2 months ago, i mean over your weakest SP guy. i still have morton in a 20’er now but that’s from horrible other options, at least till b.miller is back (hoping LAD finally figure out a comeback from injury pitcher this year, at least once)
Marathon Man (1974). Just another gem from William Goldman, the man who two years later gave us “The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand” (surprisingly he wasn’t referring to Chris Getz or John Mozeliak).
Your thoughts on Parker Meadows ros?
Also wondering about Parker. Don’t know much about him.
He was one of the greats….Meadows can’t hit for average, has power/speed
Yanks had a deal for Flaherty at the deadline but backed out for medical reasons even though hes a free agent after the season. 200 million in payroll but now have Nestor starting in the playoffs instead of Flaherty. So sad.
Makes no sense
As a Tigers fan I have the bad feeling our GM did a lot of the damage. I feel like he is the type to ask too much (Spencer Jones), hold to that demand, say if you dont pony up someone will, and when you DO walk he scrambles to sell at any price. A car salesman when a customer finds a couple scratches and asks for $100 off a $18000 car and they say no rather than make a deal.
Then he scrambles for the crap Dodgers deal because he cant afford ERod 2.0 back to back years AND has zero options because it is two hours left on deadline day.
Then he spins it and says he loves the guys more than any offer after passing on Astros offer.
you (DET) had dombrowski, which is currently what aj preller is doing to SD. sell out future, hope some idiot owner thinks in short term windows only, notices “oh that guy did ok with prior team for a few years” (while not noticing the state of the roster he left when he left that team) and gives you a raise for your trouble.
didn’t know that about NYY being worried about flaherty’s long term injuries, considering he’s first healthy this year for first time since either 19 or 20. what’s utterly hilarious is that suddenly the NYY (of montas trading for, when he was expensive, and got like less than 10 innings out of that large 1.33 years payment contract) care about pitchers that MIGHT be injured later, they like 2 years ago didn’t care about CURRENTLY very injured pitchers.
During the Yankee-Angels game last night they mention that Schanual has a routine in the offseason to get in shape to play 162 games. They said 4 of the 7 days of the week he stands all day and doesnt sit down. Paul Oneil seemed impressed. Would that actually get u in shape? I dont go to the gym i just stay standing all day?
Hahahaha, that’s crazy
security workers for politicians (the ones that take the bullets etc) that have to stand up all day as their job, routinely have health (usually knees/back) injuries for the rest of their lives, very often. now if you only do it 4/7 of the time, maybe not so bad, those guys have to do it often for their entire job, every day (not 24 hours, but i’d guess at least 8)
H2h 10 team…how much faab $ for Tyler Anderson…or skip it?
Skip
Top 5 headline of all time
That’s all Rudy
Grey!!!!
Amazing report!!!
a. Start Flaherty tonight in my Dynasty (no IP limit)? 3rd place tie with 82W, wins are imperative. Flaherty at home against Pirates (Keller).
b. Start any of these in my RCL? Need everything in pitching.
1 Bryce Miller at home Mets (Quintana)
2 Varland at home Cleveland (Cobb)
c. Special Norm MacDonald (RIP) quote of the day for August 9, 2024
Last week, British entrepreneur Richard Branson launched a new soft drink – Virgin cola. Apparently months of research had shown that people were turned off by the alternative – Slut cola and Dr. Whore.
d. Chris Rock quote of the day for August 9, 2024
Whenever I go out with other married couples, I like to bring along a single crackhead. Just to spice things up.
e. Have a nice weekend!
Cheers,

A. Yes B. Both sound fine C. Hahaha
Need a utility in 6×6, ops……Matt Wallner or Brendan Rodgers or Ernie Clement for ROS,?
Wallner
