Here’s everyone’s favorite fantasy baseball draft tool. Yes, you’re a part of everyone. Did you ever think we’d get to the end of the 2026 fantasy baseball rankings? You did? Wow, you had more faith than me. Some time around the top 60 outfielders for 2026 fantasy baseball, I thought we were gonna have to pack it up and start ranking something else, like the top 20 Reasons Why We Weren’t Finishing The 2026 Fantasy Baseball Rankings. 1. Lazy. Then a new tier for 2. Winning the lottery. 3. There was no 3. Never the hoo! Here we are now! So, from the 2026 fantasy baseball rankings, specifically the starter rankings, comes a need for this post:  The 2026 fantasy baseball pitchers’ pairing tool. This is where things get interesting! And by ‘interesting’ I mean massively confusing. If what you’re about to read were found scribbled in a notebook, the FBI would be watching me. If a serial killer stood up and read this at the next prison Meet N’ Greet, no one would blink an eye. Because, well, his company would prolly be all murderers too, ya know? Moving on!

For these pitcher pairings, I’m going to be using our (my) 2026 fantasy baseball rankings. Notably, the top 20 for 2026 fantasy baseball, the top 20 starters for 2026 fantasy baseballtop 40 starters for 2026top 60 starters for 2026, the top 80 starters for 2026 and top 100 starters. You can also just get Rudy’s downloadable War Room by signing up for the Subscriptions. Okay, formalities out of the way. *rolls up sleeves, makes farting noise with hand under armpit, rolls down sleeve* Let’s get busy!

Now, what is a pitcher pairing? It’s your plan for putting together a fantasy pitching staff. A course of action, of course — of acoursion, naturally. If you have A pitcher, which B, C, D, E and F pitcher goes with him? Which is different than ‘F this pitcher,’ that’s what you say by end of April after one of your starters gives up five earned in two-thirds of an inning. You should have six starters. The sixth starter is, well, Brandon Sproat comes to mind. Or Jack Leiter. Noah Cameron also comes to mind. Kris Bubic anyone? I’m going to assume you’re in a 12 team, 5×5 and some variation of 9 pitcher leagues like the Razzball Commenter Leagues, which are now in the process of filling up. Put on your pants and look presentable! Anyway, here’s pitcher pairings for pitching staffs for 2026 fantasy baseball drafts:

If your first pitcher is from the tiers: Fritos feet, and Hanging out with Neil, Patrick, Harris.

These tiers are from Tarik Skubal to Yamamoto. If you draft someone from these tiers, you’ll probably lose your league or get lucky with your hitters. If you do draft one, I wouldn’t take another pitcher until the tiers, “Bon varyäge” and “Get fitted for a tuxedo shirt now.” Take one pitcher from one of those two tiers, then grab another starter from one of those two tiers or, “Sideways bosom.” Then grab another starter from, “Sideways Bosom,” “Bosom buddies,” or “Dorf on Golf Presents: Fore!” or “Broken emergency anchor glass.” Then one starter from Anchor glass or “I’m using the milkrowave.” Finally, draft one more starter from the milkrowave. So, you’d have a rotation something like Paul Skenes, Nick Lodolo, Emmet Sheehan, Robbie Ray, Brandon Sproat and Kris Bubic. Or you could have Tarik Skubal, Kevin Gausman, Emmet Sheehan, Ryan Pepiot, Jack Leiter and Cody Ponce. Either of those staffs will probably net you 13’s in every pitching category in a 12 team league.

If your first pitcher is from the tiers: Fill my holes with dry rice to reduce moistness.

This tier is from Hunter Brown to Cristopher Sanchez. I’d pair either of them with anyone in their same tier or the tier, “Eat your ideal lover’s weight in cookie dough,” “Bon varyäge” and “Get fitted for a tuxedo shirt now,” but it’s not mandatory you grab two in the first two tiers. In other words, if I drafted Brown, I could see taking Logan Gilbert or anyone from any of those tiers, but I wouldn’t reach either. If you do take two guys from those first two tiers, then move to “Bon varyäge” and “Get fitted for a tuxedo shirt now,” and take one guy. You will also be fine taking Brown or Sanchez and moving right to Bon varyäge or the tuxedo shirt. If you skip a 2nd starter in the tier “reduce moistness” and “cookie dough,” then draft two guys in the Bon varyäge and/or the tuxedo shirt. So, you could have either something like Brown, Framber and Lodolo or Cristopher Sanchez, Woodruff and Eovaldi. Either way, you then move along to Sideways bosom, Bosom Buddies and a Dorf and grab a guy, then onto another Dorf, anchor glass or a milkrowave. Finally, one guy from the milkrowave. So, you’ll have something like Brown, Framber Valdez, Nick Lodolo, Robbie Ray, Tatsuya Imai and Jack Leiter. Don’t mind if I do! Or you could have something like Cristopher Sanchez, Woodruff, Eovaldi, Ranger Suarez, Shane Baz and Brandon Sproat. That’s straight gorge. As in engorged.

If your first pitcher is from the tier: Eat your ideal lover’s weight in cookie dough.

This tier is from Logan Gilbert to Max Fried. This is likely the way I’m going in 12-team leagues and shallower. This would be ideal (and just as convoluted. Anyone that actually reads AND understands this post deserves a gold star and a head exam. “You, sir, are fit for the looney bin.”) My first pitcher will be from Cookie Dough, then two starters bon varyäge and getting fitted for a tuxedo shirt, then one starter from sideways bosom, Bosom Buddies, a Dorf and one starter from a Dorf, anchor glass and milkrowave. Finally, a milkrowave. So, you could have something like Gilbert, Emmet Sheehan, Nolan McLean, Matthew Boyd, Andrew Abbott and Gerrit Cole. You just won your league and games haven’t even started. You’re welcome. Could this post become more confusing? Short answer: no. Long answer: nooooooooooo. But let’s try…

Overall Thoughts

You can’t go wrong with a lot of different sets of pitchers. You probably could do fine with drafting only 3 starters and 3 great relievers and streaming. (Razzball Subscriptions are now open with the Streamonator.) If you stick to the pitchers I like, then you’ll do well matching them up any way you see fit. For unstints, I could see a lot of people saying Emmet Sheehan is being drafted closer to a number four vs. a number two or three, so can I wait on him? Sure. If you draft only pitchers that I like, then I have no quarrel with you waiting. Wanna wait for Sheehan while grabbing another prototypical tuxedo? That’s cool with me. Just know you’re adding risk that someone might draft Sheehan before you.

TROUBLE AREAS

WHIP Issues – For every pitcher who is projected over a 1.23 WHIP, take one below. The quicker you do this, the better off you’ll be. For unstints, if you take Jacob Misiorowski, who I have projected for 1.27, you need to pair him with someone I have projected below a 1.23. Don’t pair Misiorowski with a guy with a bad WHIP. Pair him with someone like Andrew Abbott. Remember, the further you get into the rankings, the harder it becomes to find lower WHIPs. Side note: WHIP can be helped by closers and MRs… Or hurt by them.

What of those other starters you like in your top 100 starters?

You mean, what about the tier “Saying romance into a glass bottle, then tossing it into the sea,” or any starter listed in the top 100 starters who are in tiers not listed above. They are 7th starters or IL, minors or bullpen-bound. I wouldn’t count on any of them for anything. I like me some Braxton Garrett or a bunch of those guys, but are you really starting any of them every time out in April and risking a huge blow up or them just not being in the rotation, which would lead to a crushing April that leaves you in your fantasy baseball basement and a chance to start trading for keepers in May? You take a flyer on someone like Ian Seymour, hope he works out and if he doesn’t, you decide whether to drop him in redraft leagues. He’s not your 6th starter.

Strikeout Issues – For drafters who follow my lead, this shouldn’t be much of an issue. You’re shooting for around 150 strikeouts/starter.

Overall Pitching Issues – Just about everyone, including yours truly, drops at least one of their starters by May 1st. Obviously, you want the best team coming out the draft, but it’s a marathon not a sprint. Starters always come out of nowhere on waivers to become productive. Always. Even in deep leagues.

BONUS FEATURE

Because we both know everything written above this point was the gibberish of a mad mind, here’s an easy to use shortcut. Just click the pitcher you drafted, then you’ll get a short list of the next pitcher you’re supposed to draft. Frank Voila, snitches! Now, have at it:

Hi Grey. I am in a 10 team mixed roto league that uses W-L+QS and a $260 cap. I generally subscribe to your approach to pitching and can protect Lodolo at $5. I have Yamamoto who I can protect at $27 and Imanaga at $9. Considering the price I have Lodolo at would you protect Yamamoto at that price and then just focus on pitching later in the suction or would Imanaga be the better choice in your mind? Even at $9 I am a little worried about Imanaga. Thanks.

12 team mixed roto. We get 3 keepers. It’s a keeper league where my keeper slots have my last pick at round 25 with Skenes, and my 24th pick is locked with Eury. Do I even draft ANY pictures in my first 10 selections?

What up Grey! 11 team roto 5×5 with 3 keepers. I have the first and twenty-second pick in the draft. I’m for sure keeping PCA and Skenes. Should I keep Trea Turner as well or keep J. Wood instead and take a C. Sanchez, Machado, Marte, Neto, Alvarez, or Turner with my 1st pick? Thanks for your help.

Grey,
Your take on pitchers has really helped alter my previous notions on drafting them. It has helped.

So, my question for you is regarding my 12 team 6×6 H2H keeper league.

In short, we keep 6 guys (draft round penalty). I have some great values but difficult choices.

Does your view change when the pitchers can be kept at great value with little negative impact on a draft?

3 definites:

Julio(12)
EDLC(15)
Crochet(20)

I need 3 more from this group:
Listed anyone I thought had value at cost.

C- Baldwin(15)
1b- Busch(17)
SS- JWilson(25)
Of- Beck(25)
Of- Merrill(20)
Of- MHarris(20)
1b/Of- Soderstrom (16)
SP- Eury Perez(19)
SP- Lodolo(22)
SP- Leiter(25)

We keep 8 minor league eligible guys. Listing those of relevance to the decision.

SP- C. Burns
OF- Benge
OF- W Jenkins
OF- DeLauter
SP- Tong

Lastly,
I can keep either Miz or Schlitter

If I want to keep both then it would be with my 6 and would be a round 25 cost.

I value your time and input for my remaining 3 keepers and Miz/Schlitter input.

Do, I fill out a good portion of my rotation with these talented arms with no effect on front end of my draft?

Thanks!

I’m in a 12-team, one catcher league. I would like to have Agustin Ramirez but I don’t want to pick him too high. What’s a good round to pick him in?

Down to my last keeper (has to be a pitcher), would you keep McLean, Chase Burns, or Bradish? Would be penalized the same for each of them.Thx

It’s getting down to decision time with keeper deadline looming in the next 30ish hours

Standard 5×5 9 team NL only roto league and AL only league – leagues run separately with individual league placing and prizes and a combined overall for the trophy and glory…

10 keepers overall, can be any combination among the 2 leagues:

In AL – I have fewer quality options and prioritizing :

JRod $29
deGrom $12
Chapman $12

In NL
Acuna $28
Elly $17
Chourio $16
Sheehan $8
Perdomo $7

For remaining 2 keepers I have been considering Lile $8, Stewart $8 to build out the NL with some relatively cheap young hitters who could outperform their $ or Gilbert $27 and Munoz $21 – who may offer more limited excess value, but are top tier at their position… I may be able to get the higher priced guys in the auction or potentially a bit higher (or lower I suppose too)…

Advice / Guidance/ Shared wisdom?

12 team, 5×5 roto.
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, UTIL

With Carroll’s injury, are you still taking him over Vlad/Alonso in this type of league in the 2nd round with the 21st pick?

I think I’m feeling gun-shy because I took Gunnar last year after he fell to me due to injury and then was never really himself all year.

Grey, It’s your second-favorite Teddy. Hope you’re doing well! It’s the last year of 12 team H2H, 3 year keeper before we reset. We keep 6 players. I don’t love the value on Yordan in round 2, but I’m going to focus on bats in rounds 3-8. I feel like I got a solid foundation for SP’s based on round value. Who would you pair up with the current staff? I still have a soft spot for Bubba and Roki.

Round/Player

1-Tatis
2-Yordan
12-Woo
23-C. Sanchez
24-Mclean
25-Yesavage

Thanks buddee! These are my 6 keepers ( I also have Wood in round 3, Maikel in 14) but I can redraft them in earlier rounds. I usually go heavy on bats, but I stashed these guys last year in hopes to wrap up SP categories with the late round value.

In a deep league H2H keeper with K’s being a 6th category.

I deciding to keep Weathers or Braxton Ashcraft.

I saw that you guys have Weathers ranked slightly ahead of Ashcraft. I saw that Ryan Weathers was up to 98.5mph with his fastball Monday.

Obviously depends on spring training…but would early velo indicate more of a reason to draft Weathers? He was a hot commodity last spring before the shutdown.

14 Team Dynasty league with a Minor league staff.

I currently have Webb, Kirby, and Bradish. Who should I target for my 4th starter: Abbott, Baz, Bubic, Flaherty or Kelly?

Have a calm, controlled, adult conversation. Ask her why she does it, why she didnt tell you, explain how it makes you feel. Definitely something that should be agreed upon between partners, especially if she started doing it after you started dating. I would personally be ok with it depending on the content. Like if its just her doing stuff and shes making good money, so be it. If shes doing things with others on cam then nah. Also be prepared to answer how you found out she has an OF.

1.) do I get a free membership, being the spouse and all.
2.) does she need a content partner to make stuff with
3.) where the F is my cut of the profits haha
4.) who would she pair with George Kirby as here SP2

YOYOYO PLAYA!!!!

12 Team Mixed OPS. Keep 7..

In a vacuum who would you rather Langford or Soderstrom? We play one Util(always taken by Ohtani) and one extra infield slot. Im leaning Soder since he can play that IF. slot.

6 keepers are
Ohtani
Cruz
Vlad
Tucker
Wood
Acuna

:D

Thanks!

I would never ever take a pitcher in the first. I like Grey because he does not disillusion people. He literally tells them don’t invest in that fools gold up top take the real stuff.. When people are taking hitters later I want to be taking pitchers and have my hitters already.

Ya I’m on that side too. I just meant that the sheer excellence of these squads is enough to get a fella (or fellette) giddy.

Also, keeper leagues are a thing too. I wouldn’t draft Skenes ormonwnofntjose Top 3 in a redraft, but I’d give up a lot to get one of them locked in on a keeper league team.

True that. Get them before they are good is what you have to do in dynasty.

QS leagues I prefer left hand pitchers over righties. Right hand pitchers get pulled in the 5th with 5 1/3 or 5 2/3 innings in more often than lefties. 3rd time through the lineup and a man on base with a left handed batter coming up the right handed pitcher will get pulled but a left handed pitcher will stay in. And a better chance of going 6 innings. So with the choice of two compatible pitchers I go left. JMO

I’m curious, “Right hand pitchers get pulled in the 5th with 5 1/3 or 5 2/3 innings in more often than lefties.”. Is this anecdotal or is this a real, verifiable stat? If it is verifiable, where did you source it. Thanks!
