Welcome back to another week of Two-Start pitcher rankings, Razzball!
We will call this the “on-the-go” edition… aka travel baseball season. Seven out of the next eight weekends on the go for our family, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Currently writing this article in a hotel lounge, watching Troy-West Virginia battle it out in the College World Series. Life goal to make it to Omaha to check out these games.
I will keep it short and sweet this week, and that is probably due to the laptop battery being at 10%, and I left my charger back at home.
Not a lot of solid Two-Start pitchers, but a lot I would avoid to not ruin the weekly matchup on a Monday.
Good luck this week, and if you have any questions, let me know in the comments section!
Now onto this week’s rankings…
Start Your Studs-
Zack Wheeler – vs MIA, vs NYM
Chase Burns – vs NYM, @NYY
Gerrit Cole – vs CHW, vs CIN
Dylan Cease – @BOS, @CHC – How far will PCA throw his bat when Cease K’s him?
Best Of the Rest-
Shota Imanaga – vs COL, vs TOR
Davis Martin – @NYY, @DET – All he does is win, 9-2 on the season
Reid Detmers – @ARI, @ATH – Aside from one bad start he’s been great this year.
Framber Valdez – @HOU, vs CHW
(Two) Start At Your Own Risk– (High Risk/High Reward)
Payton Tolle – vs TOR, @SEA
Seth Lugo – @WSH, vs STL – Thankfully avoided serious injury.
Jared Jones – @ATH, @COL – Trust the stuff, but pitch count will limit upside.
MacKenzie Gore – vs MIN, vs SD – Cooled off after a good start to the year.
Grant Holmes – vs SF, vs MIL
Nick Martinez – @LAD, vs WSH
Walbert Urena – @ARI, @ATH
Ryne Nelson – vs LAA, vs MIN
Slade Cecconi – @MIL, @HOU
Do Not Start- Not a lot here I would start, but maybe for one matchup only. Just a lot of mid or not enough innings to get a W.
Brandon Young – @SEA, @LAD
Kai-Wei Teng – vs DET, vs CLE
Lucas Giolito – @STL, @TEX
Jack Perkins – vs PIT, vs LAA
Andrew Alvarez – vs KC, @TB
Robert Gasser – vs CLE, @ATL
Adrian Houser – @ATL, @MIA
Michael Lorenzen – @CHC, vs PIT
Ryan Gusto – @PHI, vs SF
Mike Paredes – @TEX, @ARI
For some reason, Streamonator likes Robert Gasser this week, especially his first start. Should be interesting. I took a flyer just in case the robot is on to something.
Let’s see who’s right here… Man vs Machine!
What about JT Ginn? Isn’t he scheduled for 2 starts for OAK this week?
Looks like I missed that. FanTrax says he is going, but officially it is TBD by the team. I’d slot him in right next to Framber on the Best of the Rest.
What’s your thoughts on Brandon Young? Two start both on the road v Seattle and Dodgers. Understand the hesitancy of having to face the Dodgers in their crib but Seattle doesn’t impress me. Chances he stays in the rotation ROS? O’s aren’t bleeding excess pitching by any means.
I looked into Brandon Young since he was a FA in my league. It ends up both the Dodgers and Mariners are very good vs RHPs. Dodgers are #1 offense vs RHPs in wOBA and wRC+. Mariners are 7th in wOBA and 2nd in wRC+, and they’ve hit RHPs better at home than away this season. I passed, but sometimes you have to roll the dice, especially if you’re in a head to head league. Good luck.
I think he might stick in the rotation but has some tough matchups this week. He’s an arm I wasn’t in a hurry to add for this week BUT if he does well, I know I can snag.
