Razzballers, let’s get ready for another week of Two-Start Pitcher Rankings!
We will call this week the Unstoppable Force vs the Immovable Object… aka my featured pitchers jinx vs ace pitchers that week.
This week, we will feature Jose Soriano, whom I doubted early this season, and nicknamed Sorryano. Jose currently has a 0.84ERA (insane) with a 30.1 K% and a 9.8 BB%. In his arsenal is a sinker, curve. 4-seam, split, and slider to help generate the swing n miss. There is a lot to like here in this arm, although it is normal to expect regression as he is sporting a .221 BABIP and has an xERA of 3.11. He will face two familiar opponents this week in CHW and TOR whom he faced in his last two matchups, and typically I think that matchup will favor the bats of the opponent vs the arm. He is still firmly in the Start Your Studs category.
Now onto this week’s rankings…
Start Your Studs-
Tarik Skubal: vs BOS, @KC – Best pitcher in baseball.
Logan Gilbert: vs ATL, @CHW – Great matchups this week even if Acuna is in lineup.
Jacob deGrom: @NYY, vs CHC
Jose Soriano: vs CHW, @TOR – ERA is still under a 1 and he’s an automatic start.
Aaron Nola: @MIA, vs COL
Sandy Alcantara: vs BAL, vs WSH
Cam Schlittler: vs BAL, @MIL
Gavin Williams: @KC, vs MIN – Continuing his ascension to Ace status.
Best Of the Rest-
Framber Valdez: vs BOS, @KC
Drew Rasmussen: vs TOR, @BOS
Edward Cabrera: vs CIN, @TEX
Jameson Taillon: vs CIN, @TEX
Taj Bradley: @WSH, @CLE
Tanner Bibee: @KC, vs MIN
Cade Cavalli: vs MIN, @MIA
Shane Baz: @NYY, vs ATH
(Two) Start At Your Own Risk– (High Risk/High Reward)
Eduardo Rodriguez: vs PIT, vs NYM – Clean up the walks, Eduardo.
Michael Wacha: vs CLE, vs DET
Davis Martin: @LAA, vs SEA
Noah Cameron: vs CLE, vs DET – I could see starting vs DET. Cameron does still have swing and miss stuff.
Payton Tolle: @DET, vs TB – High upside, but is he only good when he faces Yankees?
Nick Martinez: vs TOR, @BOS
Eric Lauer: @TB, vs LAA
Andrew Abbott: @CHC, vs HOU
Bubba Chandler: @ARI, @SF – Chandler should shine vs SF
Andre Pallante: vs MIL, @SD
Kyle Leahy: vs MIL, @SD
Brandon Sproat: @STL, vs NYY – Sproat could be good vs the Yankees.
Janson Junk: vs PHI, vs WSH
Walker Buehler: @SF, vs STL – These two are here just because they face SF.
Matt Waldron: @SF, vs STL
Do Not Start- Not a lot here I would start, but maybe for one matchup only.
Bryan Bello: @DET, vs TB
Luis Severino: @PHI, @BAL
Elmer Rodriguez: vs TEX, @MIL
JR Ritchie: @SEA, @LAD
David Peterson: @COL, @ARI
Tomoyuki Sugano: vs NYM, @PHI – No.
Good stuff, thanks! Please rank these relievers (Saves+Holds) ROS: Garcia, Adam and Morillo. Thanks
Hey. 12 team. H2H, 7×7. Who would you drop- Schultz or Soroka ?
Hi Andy,
Always enjoy your column!
Roupp did not pitch well. Mitch Keller is still on the wire as is Nick Martinez. Martinez next starts at home vs Toronto and then at Boston. Keller is at AZ. I have Foster Griffin whose next two starts are on the road at Miami and at Cinn.
1. Who Would you pick up of Keller or Martinez?
2. Would you drop Roupp or Griffin
or both?
Thanks so much!
Enjoy your Sunday!
Is Nola a stud??
I see a big week for Nola with these matchups. Quite a few metrics I’ve seen show him getting quite unlucky, while the K% is still in line with previous years. A 3% in BB isn’t ideal, but I think this week he is an auto start with huge upside.
I must be in whatever’s below the bottom of the barrel because I was looking to see Eric Fedde’s name here. I think he’s a two start pitcher. Eligible for an RP slot in Yahoo leagues where it’s only the points that matter.
I’m seeing him staring on 5/5 and 5/12 per FanTrax.
Drop either Cameron (2 start also) or Abel for two start Cavalli in a Keep forever? Abel has potential top of the rotation stuff and is probably close to coming off IL after a rehab or two
