For the first time in twenty weeks, there is a team leading the Razzball Commenter Leagues Master Standings that doesn’t start with “MattTruss”. I am shook. I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know where to turn. My reality is crumbling as existential dread sets in. Alright, it isn’t that bad and […]

Please, blog, may I have some more? For everyone saying that Shohei Ohtani is doing something we’ve never seen before, I’m calling bullshit. We saw it last year by a player named Shohei Ohtani. Is it impressive? Absolutely. Are we witnessing history? I dunno. He can hit and he can pitch, and that’s awesome. But he’s a two-trick pony that’s performed the […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Last four weeks of the season means last four DFS articles from your favorite DFS writer other than all those other folks. We’ve been struggling on our picks in DFS, but rocking things in the Lines in Vegas segment and in our general baseball betting plays. Hopefully, I can turn the DFS around tonight! I’ll […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Grey and B_Don are back and maybe it’s time to start adjusting the award names until somebody other than Ohtani gets the MVP award. O, you think Aaron Judge should win it? Well, you’re wrong. After we ramble about Ohtani and Babe Ruth and other non-sense, we move on to a few of the call […]

Guys wearing nothing but raspberries, screaming to the camera, “We’re the Fram-Boys! We celebrate Framber Valdez with every fiber of our body, and our body is eight grams dietary fiber in every cup. And, go ahead, and give us a cup check! It’s filled with raspberries, wanna see?” Back to the studio for Astros’ announcer, Todd Kalas, laughing, “Those Fram-Boys! Sure hope they don’t stain any linens.” Framber Valdez (9 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 2.50) just notched his 24th consecutive Quality Start. Framber heard to be celebrated here but nowhere else, because Amber Heard sued Johnny Depp and is in that sentence? On the next Povich! Yeah, I don’t know why, but Framber seems to be way below other similar pitchers in people’s minds. Here’s one for you: Framber Valdez or Sandy Alcantara? Sandy’s discussed in Cy Young terms; Framber is teammates to a guy who might win the Cy Young. Are Sandy and Framber Valdez that different? Are Framber and Sandy Alcantara that different for 2023 fantasy? I’m not being daft, here’s some peripherals: 8.5 K/9, 3.09 xFIP, 2.50 ERA vs. 8.1 K/9, 3.39 xFIP and 2.43 ERA. Any ideas which is which? The better peripherals? They’re Framber Valdez’s! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Please, blog, may I have some more?Well folks (leaving the comma out makes it sound like you live in a well and you’ll emerge like The Ring and I like that aesthetic) — you’re either in the fantasy baseball playoffs, or you really love reading me week in and week out. Probably the former, but I’ll pretend it’s the latter. Some leagues have already finished, like the Tout Wars Daily Fantasy League that our own MattTruss claimed second place in this year. Congrats Truss! Other leagues are entering their first (or second!) round of playoffs right now. RCLs and best ball leagues go until the last day of the season. So, let’s put it this way: as long as you’re here asking questions, I’ll keep posting. Sound fair?
That said, as we’re down to less than a month of MLB baseball, it’s less and less useful for me to tell you how a pitcher might regress. So, just as we did away with the rankings about a month ago, we’re going to continue shifting the format of this column to help everybody with their pitching plans throughout the fantasy playoffs. We’ll combine some news, some pitcher pickup options, and cover some matchups to target or avoid. As always, toss your questions down in the comments, and I’ll do my best to not embarrass myself or yourself or Greyself. Grey’s elf? What is this, The Lord of the Rings?
Please, blog, may I have some more?Change is upon us, my friends. This past Friday, MLB announced various rule changes that would be implemented across the big leagues in 2023. We’ll see a pitch clock in MLB, the shift will be banned, and the bases will be enlarged (to name a few). These changes are mostly under the guise of speeding […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? Here we are again talking about another weekend filled with Albert Pujols long balls. The ageless wonder caught another (hanger Sarge,) and deposited it deep into right centerfield. Victimizing another pitcher as he steamrolls to retirement, passing Alex Rodriguez for fourth place on the all-time home run list. A story the greatest writer could not […]

Fresh goes better in life with Vientos, fresh and full of life! Ahh…The Metsmaker! Sorry, that was stuck in my head. Now, hopefully, it’s stuck in your head too. Mets called up their next great hitting prospect, Mark Vientos, after Starling Marte went to the IL. Can Vientos play outfield? Absolutely not. Can Vientos run? His speed has been described as “an 80-year-old baby crawling with tennis balls on its knees.” Can Vientos hit bombs? To the freakin’ moon! He kinda reminds me of a young Evan Longoria. Now take everything you’ve thought about Longoria over the last seven years, scrub it from your brain, and think about Longoria as if this is 2016. Your brain in 2016, “Rays should lock this Longoria guy up for another ten years! He’s amazing! Wait! They let Longoria go? Wow, what a mistake! They just let a perennial 30+ homer, .270 hitter go! Rays will be in last place for the next decade. What a bunch of losers!” So, your 2016 brain is kinda remembering correctly. Longo was good at that point. Mark Vientos can be good too. Prospect Itch has more concerns about his batting average in his top 100 prospects. For this year, do I want Mark Vientos in a redraft league? No, I’d want Eduardo Escobar. Or maybe even Evan Longoria. Anyway. here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Please, blog, may I have some more?Just a few weeks remain in the 2022 fantasy baseball season! Are you still in the hunt in your roto leagues? In the playoffs in your H2H leagues? If you’re not, I’m not exactly sure why you would care about the contents of this column, so I have to assume if you’re reading this that […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Welcome back to another week of Top Dynasty Keepers.
Our attention is turned toward two of the games top prospects who were recently called up to the majors – Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles and Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fantasy owners have been waiting for these two players to reach the majors and so far they have to like what they see.
Henderson began the year as a consensus Top 100 prospect, ranked 57th by Baseball America, 64th by MLB and 88th by Baseball Prospectus. By midseason, Henderson was playing in the Futures Game and was ranked as the second best prospect by MLB before earning his promotion to Baltimore.
Like Henderson, Carroll was regarded as one of the top prospects in the game entering the season. Baseball America had him ranked 20th while MLB ranked him at 19 and Baseball Prospectus had him ranked 34th. Like Henderson, Carroll competed in the Futures Game and moved up to No. 3 in the MLB rankings before joining the Diamondbacks.
So far, Henderson and Carroll have been living up to the hype. So let’s dive in and take a look at these two players.
