Welcome back to another week of Razzball Ambulance Chasers!
I hope your fingers are intact after the explosion holiday.
I will tell you what isn’t intact: groins! hamstrings! elbows! wrists! It’s a veritable mixture of body parts in this week’s Ambulance Chasers.
Let’s jump in.
Notable Injuries
AL East
Isiah Kiner-Falefa (2B/3B/SS/OF), knee: Well folks, THE GRAVY TRAIN HAS RUN OUT. After a solid month of offering Isiah Kiner-Falefa as the unexpected answer to your injury woes, Kiner-Falefa has sprained his left knee. As he heads into his IL stint, he is leading the Blue Jays in WAR. Kiner-Falefa shared that he hopes to be back by early or mid-August.
Leo Jimenez was brought up to replace Kiner-Falefa and make his MLB debut. In his 181 AB in the MiLB, Jimenez hit 7 HR and 23 RBIs. His OPS is .847.
Paul DeJong is an option here. Sometimes he forgets what out it is in an inning, but in his last 21 AB, he has 2 HR and 6 RBIs with a slashline of .286/.318/.571.
In other news, I feel melancholy looking at this tweet.
#PaulDeJong hit his 16th homer today. He joins #JoseValentin, #TimAnderson, #RonHansen, #JuanUribe and #AlexeiRamirez as Sox shortstops to hit at least 16 homers in a season

Royce Lewis (3B, MIN), adductor: I just read the headline “Royce Lewis claims most recent injury ‘not as severe’ as past injuries”, which is both relieving and exhausting. Lewis revisits the IL with a grade 1 right adductor strain. It may seem a little presumptive to name him the Upper Leg Injury King of the Year, but I’m not above it. Lewis did share that the cause of his injuries may be related to uneven development in his muscles because of compensation for previous injuries. The good news is, that is very fixable over time. The bad news is, Lewis will be out until past the All-Star Break.
In the interim, Brooks Lee is replacing Royce. Lee only had 6 ABs at the time of publication, but he had 2 RBIs. So, while I am not making a ringing endorsement, I am occasionally a loon about back-up energy.
Former Twin Donovan Solano could be another option here. Solano is on a streak with 9 H in his last 23 AB and 3 RBIs.

Jordan Romano (RP, TOR), elbow: In news that’s not so new but still deserves a bump, Romano’s status has changed to “questionable for the 2024 season” after requiring arthroscopic elbow surgery to repair an impingement in his elbow. Romano had a bit of a roller coaster in terms of injury recovery progression this season. Romano will not be able to throw at all for 6 weeks after his surgery.
Jordan Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery today to repair an impingement in his right elbow, said John Schneider.
He won’t pick up a baseball for at least six weeks, making a return this season uncertain.

AL West
Luis Rengifo (2B/3B/SS/OF, LAA), wrist: Utilityman Rengifo takes a trip to the IL for right wrist inflammation. It’s unfortunate as Rengifo has been cooking this season (.315/.358/.442; 127 wRC+). While x-rays shared Rengifo had no breaks, there was no specific timeline for return at the time of publication.
Keston Hiura was brought in to take Rengifo’s spot on the roster.
If you need another utility piece to replace Rengifo, Tampa Bay’s Amed Rosario is a potential option. He is 2B/SS/3B/OF eligible in some leagues. Rosario makes contact with the ball, but he may not be enough in terms of other stats. LA’s Miguel Rojas does not have as much utility (2B/SS), but he is more productive with RBIs.
And let me make my own earlier suggestion of DeJong invalid (maybe I want it to be).
You can’t tell me Paul DeJong is an upgrade over Miguel Rojas.

NL East
Bryce Harper (1B, PHI), hamstring: Harper sustained a low grade left hamstring strain last Friday. He is eligible to return July 9. In a quote that is all too familiar to anyone who realizes they aren’t getting any younger, Harper said “I’ve never felt anything like that before,” about his hamstring injury.
As the hamstring strain is low grade, Harper should not be out too long. So, put in your back-up and wait this one out. If you are in a pickle, check out Jon Singleton.

Kyle Schwarber (OF, PHI), groin: The groin/adductor sagas continue as Kyle Schwarber hits the IL with exactly that. Like Bryce Harper, Schwarber should be back soon, even sooner than Harper.
Rob Thomson said Kyle Schwarber is doing drills at 90% intensity and Bryce Harper/J.T. Realmuto are at about 70-75%.
Though the All-Star break looms after next week’s homestand, the Phillies won’t hold any of them back if they’re ready to go before it.

NL West
Jordan Montgomery (SP, ARI), knee: The Diamondback’s SP hits the IL with right knee inflammation, and maybe it is a good time for a break as Montgomery has struggled this season with a 6.44 ERA and 4.42 FIP. If you are still hanging on to Montgomery, take a look at Colin Rea. In his last 12.3 IP, 1.46 ERA with 8.8 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9.
Colin Rea has 17 starts this season. He's gone 5+ IP with 2 ER or fewer in 10 of those starts and also has a 6 IP, 3 ER and 5.2 IP, 3 ER game in there as well. Just rock freaking solid with a shoutout to some great defense behind him.
