The cookie shop smells much more inviting this week. After a couple batches of less than enticing offerings, we’ve got the goodness on offer again this week. I don’t know that I have a whole lot to add beyond that, so let’s go ahead and get right to it.
What follows are our projections at time of writing as to who will be making two-starts this week, but weather, injuries, and secretive team management mean they are just that: projections. To stay as up-to-date as possible, consult Rudy Gamble’s invaluable Streamonator.
Chocolate Chip Cookies (Must Start)
They are kings of the cookie world for a reason. A warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookie just makes you feel happy. Sort of like getting to set your rosters knowing you get two starts this week from these guys.
Pitcher | First Start | Second Start |
---|---|---|
Garrett Crochet, Bos | @HOU | MIA |
Freddy Peralta, Mil | PIT | @CIN |
Logan Webb, SF | SD | TB |
Nathan Eovaldi, Tex | ARI | @TOR |
George Kirby, Sea | @BAL | @NYM |
Sugar Cookies (Should Start)
They’re fine. You could certainly do worse than having these guys in your lineup, but don’t expect it to be remarkable.
Pitcher | First Start | Second Start |
---|---|---|
Spencer Strider, Atl | @NYM | @CLE |
Ryan Pepiot, TB | @ATH | @SF |
Ranger Suarez, Phi | @CIN | @WSH |
Andrew Abbott, Cin | PHI | MIL |
Jeffrey Springs, Ath | TB | LAA |
- I loathe these matchups for Abbott. I don’t know how you actually sit him, though.
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (Could Start)
These aren’t for everyone. These are the pitchers that may be a pleasant surprise, or they could ruin your week. Tread lightly.
Pitcher | First Start | Second Start |
---|---|---|
Cade Horton, ChC | @TOR | PIT |
Zebby Matthews, Min | @NYY | DET |
Jack Flaherty, Det | @CHW | @MIN |
Jose Berrios, Tor | CHC | TEX |
Clay Holmes, NYM | ATL | SEA |
Jose Soriano, LAA | LAD | @ATH |
Will Warren, NYY | MIN | @STL |
Ryne Nelson, Ari | @TEX | @COL |
- The machine likes Flaherty a lot this week. Looking at the matchups, I get it. He’s just been so frustrating this season. So you probably have to use him, but you’re not doing it with any sort of confidence.
- By recent performance, Nelson deserves to be at the top of this tier, if not in the one above. However, the matchups are gross. Or, the location is for the second one, anyway. The Rockies are terrible, but Coors has been doing its Coors thing lately and that’s concerning. I’d still use Nelson, though. Consider this a coward’s ranking of him.
Fortune Cookies (Do Not Start)
Yeah, they’re technically cookies. Hold on, what does that little slip of paper say? “Bad times are heading your way.” Oh. Okay, then.
Pitcher | First Start | Second Start |
---|---|---|
Yu Darvish, SD | @SF | @LAD |
Cristian Javier, Hou | BOS | BAL |
Dean Kremer, Bal | SEA | @HOU |
Miles Mikolas, StL | COL | NYY |
Chris Paddack, Det | @CHW | @MIN |
Bailey Falter, KC | WSH | CHW |
Andrew Heaney, Pit | @MIL | @CHC |
Cade Cavalli, Wsh | @KC | PHI |
Janson Junk, Mia | @CLE | @BOS |
Kyle Freeland, Col | @STL | ARI |
Mitchell Parker, Wsh | @KC | PHI |
Taijuan Walker, Phi | @CIN | @WSH |
Anthony DeSclafani, Ari | @TEX | @COL |
Pierson Ohl, Min | @NYY | DET |
Anthony Molina, Col | @STL | ARI |
- The Cristian Javier? Really? Maybe! Word is he’s making his big league return from Tommy John surgery early this week. I’m guessing it’s the very start of the week. Though if I’m being honest, I’d prefer to be wrong and have the chance to see him pitch once before having to decide if I want to use him twice. Of course, that could happen even if he does start Monday, as the Astros could choose to use a six-man rotation for a turn or two to ease him back into things. So what I’m saying, basically, is that this whole entry is sort of pointless. Oops.
- Walker, to his credit, has put together a couple starts in a row that were decent to actually very good. So maybe he deserves to be higher than he is within this tier. I still wouldn’t want to actually start him, though. If you do, I can’t stop you.
No Quintana on here?
Wasn’t clear before submission. Oatmeal cookie. Sort of the living embodiment of it.
Thanks!
I would have sworn Spencer Arrighetti was on here…..please let him start twice….hes starting Tuesday. My Dinger tests on he and Holmes for 2 starts….LFG
Logan Allen isn’t in there either yikes lol
Arrighetti is only starting once this week. Allen did slip through the crack somehow. Top of the Oatmeal Cookie tier/bottom of Sugar
It’s a 6 game week and Javier is going Monday. Arrighetti should have two next week.
Warren, Paddack or Verlander ROS redraft league?
I’m scared about Abbott’s match-ups (Phil + Milw) and his recent regression.
Abbott or Baz?
Streamometer likes
As I say, I do loathe Abbott’s matchups. I just don’t think Baz is good. Having a pitcher get bombed once is better than it happening twice, but it’s also entirely possible Abbott gets you similar ratios, if not better, with better counting stats. So he’d be my pick.
Thanks.
