“It’s just about ready to do that thing I don’t want no tears, I don’t want no lies Above all, I don’t want no alibis This Judge is hip, and that ain’t all” Here Comes the Judge The Yankees did not need much behind the pitching of Frankie Montas and the bullpen. It did get […]

Hola, fellow español speakers! Today’s word is Triston Casas (1-for-4)! Let’s break it down into parts! Triston is pronounced Tris like a Tris Speaker. Not the old-timey baseball player, but like a speaker who is saying the word Tris. Next part is ton like, “I ate a ton of churros and now I am sneezing cinnamon sugar.” Say the last name with me now…Ca-thathss. The last part you say like a Spanish snake. Like a snake you find in the desert outside of Barth-a-lona. A snake with a lisp. Try the whole thing now, Triston Cathathss. Bueno! *maracas around room* Cathathss! Cathathss! Cathathss! So, yesterday or today or last week doesn’t really matter for when the Red Sox called up Triston Casas, but if you think he was called up on Sunday simply because now he’s earned his place, like he got the ring from Gollum and deposited in the mouth of some volcano or whatever that quest was of those hill trolls, you’re sadly mistaken. Triston Casas has been ready for a while, but baseball is still broken for when prospects are called up. Rather than change the world’s problems today, let’s look at Triston Casas. Hey, what do you know, I already gave you my Triston Casas fantasy! So ridiculous that I figured (correctly) he’d have 300+ ABs this year. Because he’s been ready! If you don’t care what I say, here’s what Itch said, “Triston Cases has learned late at-bat traits to help him hang against a variety of experienced pitchers, and perhaps he’s carried some of those hang-in-there strategies to early-count situations against pitchers he’s never seen before. Whatever it is, I like it. Unlike Grey, who I hate.” Really not cool! I’d grab Triston Casas in every league. He’s got elite approach and power. For what he will do the final month? No one knows, because it’s a small sample, but worth finding out. Finally, Casas is home. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Please, blog, may I have some more?Man, the fantasy baseball season is a long one, isn’t it? And after this week there will still be three more editions of the Two-Start Dive Bar coming! This week the total number of double-dippers feels lower than usual, but the good news is that means fewer opportunities for total disaster down in the Bar […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Welcome back to another week of Top Dynasty Keepers.
With the calendar flipping over to September, it can only mean one thing in the baseball world – roster expansion! For teams that have been out of contention for weeks or months, this is a chance to reward two prospects having great seasons on top of the many top prospects who have already been called up to the minors.
But for a team like the Houston Astros, this is a chance to not only reward two prospects who have had outstanding seasons, but to see if they can possibly offer some help down the stretch or even in the postseason.
CHANCE TO PROVE THEMSELVES
With the rosters expanding to 28 players starting Sept. 1, Houston added right-handed pitcher Hunter Brown and catcher Yainer Diaz to the major league roster. Brown is the club’s top prospect and is currently ranked 71st in the Top 100 Prospects list by MLB.com while Diaz is the team’s No. 3 prospect.
Both players dominated the competition in the minors, Brown all season at AAA Sugar Land and Diaz at AA Corpus Christi before moving up to Sugar Land.
The Astros entered Saturday with an 11-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West standings. Thanks to that large lead, it gives the club a chance to see what Brown and Diaz can do on the major league level – a chance they may not have received if the lead was one or two games.
Let’s dive in and see why the Astros promoted Brown and Diaz.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Last week was bizarre. My pitching recommendations were downright terrible, but my hitting streamers went nuts. That has given me mixed feelings about that article, but the process has been on point for a month now. This is the time of the year when we need our pitching streamers to step up, though, and I […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? Here we are, Labor Day weekend. To most sports fans, whether college or pro, turning the calendar to September drives more images of planning football tailgates than outings to the ballpark. The days of beer and brats tend to be in the rear-view mirror, way back in July and August. College football is starting up […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Houston relievers Rafael Montero and Ryan Pressly are scheduled to hit free agency this winter. The pair has 35 saves between them this season. Maybe Houston brings someone back. Maybe they anoint Hector Neris (or Ryne Stanek) the guy coming out of camp. Regardless of what the team does, it’s difficult to envision a scenario that excludes RHP Bryan Abreu from the ninth-inning picture, unless you’re building the scenario around injury or poor performance. Command has eluded Abreu at times, so that’s not out of the question, but you could say the same about a lot of relievers. And just so you know, this whole post idea sprung from the fact that Abreu was available in a lot of my leagues despite looking like an obvious closer in 2023 and beyond.
Please, blog, may I have some more?We saw the first wave of September call ups with headliners in Corbin Carroll and Gunnar Henderson. There will likely be more to come as vets get rested and teams want to give their young guys a lower pressure setting to get their first taste of the bigs. My advice, always bid on these guys, […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Like fine wine, some Rookies are simply better with age. Now I am not talking Rooke of the Year winners such as Jose Abreu or Ichiro Suzuki, who dominated upon their arrival to the MLB at a more advanced age. Those guys had a leg up as stars in the native leagues prior to taking the MLB by storm. No, we are talking about the guys like Jose Martinez, Shane Spencer or Ryan Shimpf who took the league by storm after, sometimes well after, their 25th birthday. Sometimes they come out of nowhere as their MLB team can simply no longer deny their production or they find their way into a lineup due to injury or trade. Either way, these guys can be jolts to our fantasy lineup as the season comes to a close. This week, we dive into two different rookies to see if they are aging like a fine wine or more of a moldy cheese.
Please, blog, may I have some more? What’s poppin, Razzpimples? I won’t pretend to know what Dan Pants is up to, but y’all can call me JKJ Pants for this week! Sliding in to take the reins for this week’s Friday roundup, which is simultaneously a little daunting and rather refreshing as the bullpen writer in this neck of the woods. Anyone […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?If you have read my weekly DFS column, you know I am a diehard Mariners fan. Sometimes saying that out loud tastes like bile, but not this year. We did just enough in free agency to move the needle. The best of the off-season moves was enticing the reigning AL CY award winner to come […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Welcome to your weekly edition of your Razzball fantasy baseball injury report, friends. There is only about one month of regular season baseball left, and quite frankly, this is no time for shenanigans if you want to move up the ranks in your leagues. You know who does have time for shenanigans? Aroldis Chapman who […]
