Trade deadline week creates a dangerous game for fantasy managers. Everyone is glued to social media waiting for the next blockbuster, hoping a change of scenery unlocks the next fantasy star. Meanwhile, some of the biggest second-half values never change organizations at all. They simply earn more playing time, make an adjustment at the plate, or finally see the underlying metrics translate into production. That’s what I wanted to investigate. Rather than chasing the hottest box scores or recycling the latest waiver wire list, I dug into Statcast trends, recent performance, lineup usage, organizational decisions and industry buzz to identify hitters whose fantasy value may be changing faster than public perception. Some already have the skills but need the opportunity. Others have the opportunity and are beginning to show the skills. Saw Jose Ramirez‘s injury and thought to myself, “Yeah, JoRam gets injured and comes back in roughly 24 hours.” Well, yeah, no, I was wrong. Yeah, no. It happens. Sometimes I “Yeah, no.” Jose Ramirez has a broken hamate bone. I still think every pitcher should have Tommy John before taking the mound for the […]

White Sox OF Braden Montgomery (23) hit a three-run home run in his big league debut on Tuesday, a continuation of a long-burning breakout that tracks all the way back to spring training. In 56 games split almost evenly between Double-A and Triple-A, Montgomery slashed .314/.422/.548 with ten home runs, five stolen bases and a 24.8 percent strikeout rate. The switch-hitter played right field in his debut but could mix in at center if Tristan Peters goes cold.
