Did you know left-handed people are more prone to allergies? In the book Cerebral Dominance: The Biological Foundations, it finds lefties to be 11 times more likely to suffer from allergies than righties. I guess that explains why Patrick Corbin seems allergic to getting hitters out. Furthermore, data collected in 2008 by the Illinois Research […]

“Hologram Harry Caray leading the nation, nay, the world in Take Me Out To The Ballgame at the Field of Dreams game, wait, what’s this? Hologram Tupac, Hologram Babe Ruth and Hologram Barbara Bush have joined him, embracing. It’s East Coast, West Coast, Midcoast and Southcoast coming together, as only holograms can! If holograms can come together, then why can’t we, as people, come together? Rob Manfred has done it again!” *wavy lines* Oh my God, we’ve been inside a Rob Manfred’s dream sequence! It was a Field of Dreams dream! AHHH!!! I need to shower! So, the Field of Dreams game went off again without a hitch. Oops, I mean without a Hitch, meaning Will Smith and Kevin James both were not in attendance. For some reason, MLB thought the Reds and Cubs should be rewarded that showcase. If you’re going to have two teams who are trying to lose games, and dismantle its stars, then why not do a Major League theme in Cleveland? One thing baseball has is decent movies. Why not do a different one each year? Bull Durham theme one year in a MiLB park; The Natural theme one year in a lightning storm; The Rookie theme one year with all old players. The possibilities are endless! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

It’s the dog days of summer, I think? I could look that up, but Google broke the other night, and I’ve been having a recurring nightmare about the AskJeeves butler tearing me to pieces using the lawnmower from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. I have been shrunken down in the dream, to give you proper context, and yes, Amy O’Neill is my girlfriend. What I’m trying to say is that it may or may not be the dog days of summer.* Much like that lull that occurs at the beginning of the last quarter of any given school year, the time seems to stretch like taffy. However, we begin to make moves as if MLB’s season ends in the next week. Articles begin to appear talking about stretch runs, which is gross (Keep bathroom humor in the bathroom!). One reads another article explaining how you should spend your FAAB now, as the chances that a new closer or impact bat appearing on the wire is slim to none.

There’s a section of the fantasy baseball industry dedicated to prospects; scouting, evaluating, and projecting among other aspects. Comprehensive sites like the one you’re on now have dedicated prospect writers (scratch that Itch) working tirelessly to keep you abreast of all the names to know for your fantasy teams, and there are prospects-only sites that […]

You want some players to add for points leagues? Well you are in luck because I’ve got some players that might just be floating around on your waiver wire. Power is king in points leagues, I’ve preached that before, but you can’t discount high batting average guys. A single might not be worth as much as a dong but hits do add up. At this point in the season you’re not going to be able to grab a 40 home run hitter. I really wish you could, they were more than likely scooped up long ago. Man intros are hard…. but I shall press on. These are not necessarily league winners but they could be just the boost you need.

Orlando Arcia went down with a hamstring strain and some teams would’ve just cobbled together a makeshift shortstop out of available major league pieces. A Frankenshortstop, so to speak. And it might’ve been fine, might’ve ran into a hot day or three from whoever they Ehire’d. That’s the kind of shizz other teams do! Not the Braves! I love the Braves for this, by the way. They promote their prospects like they’re Tim McGraw singing Live Like You’re Dying. They’re on a bull named Fu Manchu, and they promote their guys! Love it! Of course, sometimes with pitchers, they come up, surprise hitters for three to six months, then fade into obscurity, unable to handle setbacks. But who cares about that now? Their sticks come up and stick. Yesterday, they promoted Vaughn Grissom from Double-A, where he was 3/7/.363 in 22 games, after going 11/20/.312 in High-A. He appeared in Itch’s Top 50 prospects, and now appears on all of my teams, because I love me some rookie nookie! Plus, he got a slam (1) and legs (1) in his major league game (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), and the homer was an absolute moonshot over the Green Monster. Haven’t been that impressed by a Braves’ rookie debut since Jason Heyward’s! Okay, that’s not fair, but trying to put things in perspective. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Prospect News: Top 50 for Dynasty Leagues, Post-Draft Update

Here’s where the introductory words for part two would go, if I thought any of us wanted to see those.

And here’s a link to the Top 25, in case you want to see those.

26. RHP Taj Bradley | Rays | 21 | AAA | 2023

27. OF Zac Veen | Rockies | 20 | A+ | 2024

28. LHP Ricky Tiedemann | Blue Jays | 19 | AA | 2023

Taj Bradley is getting knocked around a bit at Triple-A (5.25 ERA in three starts), but this is Tampa we’re talking about. Nobody suppresses their own pitchers’ ratios like the Rays.

Zac Veen has 50 stolen bases in 54 attempts with a 129 wRC+ in 92 games. The Rockies have more good hitting prospects than usual. Can’t wait to see how they screw them up.

Give Ricky Tiedemann another couple dominant starts in Double-A and he’ll have a case for the top ten. He might be there already on some lists. No real argument with that from me. The rankings feel especially fluid right now. It’s a time of putting your money in your mouth and then chewing it up and chasing it down with a shot of tequila.
