Don Mattingly said that Kenley Jansen is now his closer. His exact words were, “There was a time and a place to put a closer in the setup role and an inferior pitcher in the closer role and that time has past. I will know try to figure out why I ever shaved my mustache. Things were much easier when Joe Torre was in the dugout managing the team and not on speed dial. ‘Ooh, I’m Joe Torre, I take twenty minutes to return a text.’ C’mon, man, I can only ask for a replay review so many times! I wonder if I can get Paul Sorvino to be my bench coach. Or Joe Mantegna, he also kinda looks like Torre.” Jansen will be a $12 Salad in all leagues by July, if not sooner. Yes, he should be owned in all leagues, if he isn’t already. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Jhoulys Chacin – Went to the Disgraceful List when he refused his assignment to Triple-A. If you are gonna suck in your first 5 MLB starts of the year, Jhoulys you can do is report to AAA.
Christian Friedrich – Once top prospect fell off of radars due to injuries and velocity issues. This year, he’s looked solid in Triple-A with 27 Ks and 4 walks. It’s like this Christian is born again! I wouldn’t go near him with a 120 inch pole yet in mixed leagues, but in NL-Only leagues I’d grab him for his start vs. the Padres. Yeah, those Padres. Wait, those were the same Padres that hit Pomenranz so hard PETA was called in.
Alex White – It’s all Rockies pitchers all the time. White is also making Triple-A hitters seem like a bunch of minors (21/8 K/BB). In mixed leagues, I wouldn’t carry White, said in a sultry voice. For now, he’s an NL-Only flyer. (He also gets the Padres. Yup, still those Padres.)
Jayson Werth – As originally announced here after I read it elsewhere, Werth will miss 12 weeks with wrist surgery after breaking it Sunday night. He must be pist. If I didn’t have the DL room, I’d drop Werth. Wrists are kinda important for hitters and there’s a chance, even if he returns this year, he might not be right until next year.
Tyler Moore – Was called up by the Nats and showed a ton of power in the minors, but for now he’s a bench bat on the Nats. So in deep NL-Only leagues, he’s just a temp fill-in, i.e., I wouldn’t marry Tyler Moore.
Kevin Youkilis – On his rehab, he started a walking program. I don’t get it; taking walks was about the only thing he could still do.
Will Middlebrooks – 3-for-5 with 2 homers as the Red Sox contemplate telling Youuuuk to take a long walk. Middlebrooks will cool down at some point, but who cares? Pick him up. Now.
Josh Willingham – Didn’t start yesterday due to a skin condition near his mouth. Sounds like The Other White Meat’s throbbing lardons are getting him in trouble.
Francisco Liriano – 5 IP, 4 ER. Incredible that Liriano is still starting for the Twins, then again there’s players in their starting lineup that probably aren’t on any other team’s roster: Jamey Carroll, Danny Valencia, Brian Dozier, Eric Komastu, Trevor Plouffe and Chris Parmelee. Just because they play in Target Field doesn’t mean they have to only shop in bargain bins.
Giancarlo Stanton – Hit his 6th homer in the last ten games. Rawr, rawr like a Stanton dragon!
Carlos Zambrano – 9 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 9 Ks. As noted in the preseason, “Ozzie will either bond with Zambrano and have him produce his best year since the mid-naughts or their personalities together will become so combustible that Little Havana will break from the union and form the 51st state with Ozzie becoming Supreme Leader of Little Havana and having Zambrano executed.” And that’s me noting me! It looks like the former is coming true. I’d absolutely grab Big Z in the non-sexual way. Could be a solid 4th to 5th fantasy starter in mixed leagues. Crayola Canyon definitely won’t hurt.
Brandon Snyder – 3-for-5, 2 runs and 6 RBIs with his 2nd homer. Now has two homers in his last three starts. Only problem is it took nearly a week to get 3 starts.
Nelson Cruz – 3-for-4, 3 runs. Could the season long drought finally be coming to an end? C’mon, Cruz, make it rain, man.
Aubrey Huff – Returned from the DL for anxiety related reasons. Guess that means he’s back from lunch.
Cole Hamels – Guaranteed himself a suspension by admitting he threw at Bryce Harper. When asked by teammates and management why he couldn’t show more restraint on what he says to the press, Cole replied, “I did show restraint. I didn’t mention how my ‘old school pitching’ is modeled after the Romans and I threw at Harper because his eye black reminded me of that Christ-wannabe, Tim Tebow.”
Philip Humber – 2 1/3 IP, 8 ER. Reminds me of the time I went through a perfect fartless vacation weekend with a girlfriend and then woke up the next morning back at my apartment and nearly Dutch Oven’d myself to death.
Doug Fister – 7 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 3 Ks. Sure, it doesn’t hurt to return to a matchup against the M’s, but I’d still give Fister a fighting chance on a mixed league team.
Ernesto Frieri – Scioscia announced that Frieri or Walden will get saves while Downs is, uh, down. Welcome, Frieri, to saver town. Hopefully, Frieri will enter each game in a red 1967 convertible Chevy Camaro, and when he leans in to get the signal from the catcher, he does The Hunch.
Mike Trout – Sat out yesterday for Bourjos. They need Morales to hurt himself (while hurting Vernon Wells). The Sciosciapath doesn’t have cojones to start Pujols at 3rd base. Somewhere, La Russa’s reading that and his feathered hair is feeling a little bouncier.
Jonathan Papelbon – 1 IP, 3 ER. Kazaam!
Jordany Valdespin – Hit the game winning homer. He has great speed and some decent power (15 homers, 33 steals last year in Double-A), but I’m not sure the Mets will play him (they should, but not sure they will). Plus, his name sounds like it’s from a Harry Potter Character Name Generator.
Cody Ransom – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 4th homer, as he bats .351. Yes, he should be playing every day. No, he’s not. Yes, he’s old so this sudden burst won’t continue. No, it doesn’t matter.
Guillermo Mota – 100 games for a second positive PED test. PEDS are just his M.O. (Mota Operandi).
Jered Weaver – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 2 Ks. Well, Johnny Vander Meer’s family can stop following him around now.
Lance Lynn – 5 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners (4 BBs), 7 Ks, lowering his ERA to 1.40. Okay, but now I’m officially concerned about an upcoming correction. 4 walks in 5 innings is not good and 1.40 ERA won’t stay that low.
Allen Craig – 2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer. I told you to grab him yesterday. What’s changed? The day.
Jeff Samardzija – 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks. You know that guy that you invited last second to join your league who you really don’t like and is currently in first? He’s going to pick up Samardzija if you don’t.
Bryan LaHair – 1-for-3 as LaHair moussed his 8th homer.
Ian Stewart – 1-for-3 with his 3rd homer. Does he have a section of Wrigley that dresses up like Cubs with Stewart jerseys called Stewart’s Root Bears?
Adrian Cardenas – The Cubs called up the ex A’s prospect to be the UTIL after Blake DeWitt was DFA’d (unfortunately his mom Joyce never hooked up with Theo’s dad, Juan, at the 70’s Battle of the Network Stars). He’s played 2nd in the minors and delivers high average, average speed, and a below average glove. Given that the Cubs have a dinosaur playing second, he could see some ABs if he’s hitting. Stash for NL-only.
Wilson Betemit – 1-for-3 with his 4th homer (and third in the last ten games). He also has a hit in nine of his last ten games while batting .357. There, folks, is your hot schmotato.
J.J. Hardy – 3-for-4. Actually, more impressed with a three hit night from Hardy than I would be with a 1-for-4 with a homer night. As my ex-girlfriends will tell you, I’m a small ball kinda guy.
Edinson Volquez – 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks. A hodgepadre that was pitchslapped by Pomeranz. (I can only imagine if this is someone’s first time reading the site. Did he say ‘A hodgepadre that was pitchslapped?’ Where am I and how do I get back to ESPN?)
Dale Thayer – Thayer throwing pills for the save yesterday — what a relief! Since Cashner threw 39 pitches the day before, he wasn’t available. I’d hold Cashner, but this also proves that Gregerson is nowhere near getting saves.
Zack Cozart – 1-for-5 with his 3rd homer, but only his 7th RBI. Could the pitcher’s spot get on base once in a while? Geez…
Alex Gonzalez – Tore his ACL, which comes just days after Gamel also tore his ACL. The last time a Milwaukee duo tore up joints like that, it was Laverne & Shirley after Lenny & Squiggy slipped some Spanish Fly in their Schlitzes.
“Dutch Oven’d to death”?
Nice job – we just lost our three female readers.
@Random Collmenter, My sister always seemed to enjoy them….
@Bubbles, Damned right she does.
Is Derrek Lee worth a pick up in the deepest of deep leagues?
@Giant JJ, Depends on who you’d be dropping.
@Giant JJ, he kind of sucked last year… what Awesomus said…
anyone who knows something about Justin Upton?
he was replaced in top 6th after 0-for-3.
is there some injury or discomfort? tell me if you know.
@Piranhaman, No injury,just some kind of weird Gibsonian double switch strategy.
You know- take out your best hitter type of thing.
@Hondo, ah~ thank you, Hondo.
Should I hold on to raf soriano????12 team Roto mix
@jerky, i would. girardi they would use both he and robertson to close, at least to begin with. and sori is the one with closing experience…
I picked up lowrie for hardy first day off my team I look and he’s 2 fo 2 2bombs…was it a bad move to drop hardy….ps. I took your advice…..p.s.s I’m kinda mad I did….ps.s.s its 4 am on my side of town…. P.s.s.s.s I’m going to Dutch oven myself to death now
@jerky, I benched Hardy in favor of Seager on his 2 HR day. I was happy.
ahhh you snuck in a barney reference, thanks dude
@a1rfann1ng, No problem…
Been offered J Upton for Bumgarner, Lynn and Casilla. Do it?
Cashner was just dropped so I will be making a bid for him.

@Grey’s da man!, Sounds fair…
@Grey, would you make the move? Currently leading in most pitching categories and at bottom in hitting, but a little concerned about J Up’s health
Sorry for the second question but I’ll be sending you some booze money sometime this season as I do every year because I really appreciate the advice. It says THANK YOU louder than mere words. Kemp was moving slow and gingerly last night. I can get Miggy for him straight up. Should I?
@Giant JJ, I’d rather have Kemp, but I don’t think either answer is incorrect.
I dropped Strop to pick up Thayer. Hope that was the right move. It’s a Closepocalypse!
@DrEasy, Ha
Drop Rickie Weeks to pick up Middlebrooks? right now between Weeks and Zobrist i have a bit of an offsensive gap in my infield
@El Hombre, Hold
Frieri or Walden for saves?
@Grey’s da man!, Walden
If Middlebrooks continues to rake and Youk gets healthy do you think the Red Sox make any room for him? Perhaps in the OF somewhere?
@EmporersMonkey
You do realize that Youkilis has played LF in the past?
@charlie hustler, You do realize you sound snarky…
@beardcrabs, my bad, and really not my intent.
Not everyone remembers that Youkilis has played OF in the fairly recent past, though most of it was in 2006. I should have fleshed that out a bit more.
@charlie hustler, Yeah, I realize that. But shoving a veteran to the OF for a rookie just doesn’t seem like something the club would do.
@EmporersMonkey, I agree with this. Middlebrooks will most likely return to AAA to get some innings in the outfield, a position he apparently has never played professionally. But if both bats stay in the lineup, at least until Crawford returns, it is Youkilis who can play the outfield.
Drop rios for Jay, Seager, B Snyder or Ransom?
@Grey’s da man!, Jay
Think there’s any chance A Craig starts getting time at 2B for the Redbirds once the big puma returns? Ackley’s killing me in one league, would be pretty awesome if Craig could become eligable there and save me the agita.
@TheNewGuy, Yup
whats the worst starter you’d take in a bryce harper deal in a 12 team league??
non keeper…
@barker, Anibal
Who gets more saves going forward, frieri or Thayer? (btw I’m leaning toward frieri because my iPad autocorrected his name to “friend”
@Kcc26, I’d go with Frieri. I think Thayer got the chance because Cashner wasn’t available. I think he’ll get more saves and also have a better chance for the occasional vulture win.
@Enrique, I have Frieri. My biggest fear is that he’s one of these guys with great peripherals but will implode with his first crack at it and never see another opportunity. That said, I think Thayer just got the spot save because Cashner was unavailable.
@WhineSpritzer, It’s certainly not a sure thing. But I do think Frieri is your best bet between those two.
Just got back from seeing Jersey Boys. Where were you, Grey?
@Steve, Stage left
I’ve been offered Josh Willingham and Brett Myers for LaHair. I need saves and LaHair will obviously regress, but I’m still not 100% on making the deal. Any advice?
@The Sawce, It’s fine
Grey : 10 team OBP league and Avila was just dropped. Would you lose AJ P for him at Catcher?
@2 Cups 1 Braun, Yup
Good problem to have in 10 team Yahoo h2h
Who to bench out of these 5:
LaHair, Dread-Pirate, Adam Jones, Andre E, Adrian Gon…
Leaning towards McCutch (been out sick) or Melky v Kershaw, tough match-up although Melky hot…
@SanFran1966, McCutch
I believe the correct plural form is Schlitzi.
You up to date with S1W?
@Awesomus Maximus, Yeah, I’m up to date… Hit me!
@Grey, Christina is the most clueless person to ever play the game, no? I mean, it was moronic to tell her that they were sending a couple of votes her way just in case Troy played an idol, but even the dimmest of bulbs could connect those dots. Yet there she was, walking around like, “Yeah, a couple votes are coming my way, but they’re not voting me out.”
Kat going home was one of the funniest “tribe has spoken” moments in a long time. I think I’m even going to watch The Ponderosa to see if she’s as brilliant there.
Morning! Nice Tribe ref….Which Scenario you like better in these deals (no batteries included, and no strings attached):
1. EE and JZ for N. Cruz and Moose
2. JZ for B. Butler
2. EE and JZ for Joey Bats?
I’m offering the EE/JZ side.
Thanks.
@mc serch, Thanks! 1
@Grey, are 2 and 3 good deals for me, or should I pull’em?
10×10 H2H (IP,W,L,SV,K,H,ERA,WHIP,K/9,K/BB)
Who do you like ROS and why?
James McDonald
Drew Smyly
@Hondo, McDonald
Frieri, Walden, Cashner, or Broxton right now?
@Jermo, broxton…
Hello Grey, or any fellow Razzballers.
I need a major power upgrade and am also quite weak at C. I’ve been proposed two deals:
–Either Wieters or McCann (one team has both) in return for Alvarez and Bonifacio. Whichever one I get would essentially free up two roster spots, since I’d drop by current C, Doumit.
–Or Bonifacio (or maybe Aviles) straight up for Mark Reynolds or Josh Willingham (or maybe Encarnacion).
Please weigh in! Which option or which version works best? Or should I do both if I can? I think I can spare Alvarez, Bonifacio, and Aviles (though if I trade all of ’em, then I don’t have a backup SS).
Any chance Alvarez (4 BB in two games) is turning a corner, becoming more patient, and would help with my shortage of power in his own right?
My pitching is fine so I won’t list pitchers, but my current hitters are:
C Doumit
1B Votto
2B Pedroia
3B Zimmerman, Alvarez
SS Andrus
OF McCutchen, Boesch, Bourn
1B/2B/OF Kendrick
3B/SS/OF Bonifacio
2B/3B/SS Aviles
DL Chris Young
Thanks for any help!
@Enrique, Forgot to include that this is a 14-team 6×6 one-year roto league.
@Enrique, What are your roster requirements in this league?
@MattTruss223, Good point, thanks. I should have included that.
It’s just one player at each infield position (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS), plus 3 OF and one UTIL. 2 DL slots. No MI, or CF, no specific OF positions.
@Enrique, I meant “No MI, or CI, no specific OF positions.”
@Enrique, With Bourn and Andrus (and apparently McCutchen is a steals-only guys nowadays, ugh), there’s probably no reason to own Boneface too, a little overkill w/the SBs. You could move him for a power guy like Reynolds or Dunn or someone for your UTIL. My guess is, you won’t be able to get Weiters or McCann for Boneface and Alvarez, but you could prolly move Bourn for one of them and be OK too, then scoot Howie or Boneface into the OF and have a pretty solid squad.
@MattTruss223, And don’t forget that you’re likely to get some good power back when Krispie comes off the DL.
@MattTruss223, @Awesomus Maximus, I just got word that the guy proposed Alvarez and Bonifacio for McCann. I gotta take that, right?
I still don’t think it solves the power problem I have, but it’s a step in the right direction.
That leaves me with two open bench spots … but that’s another issue.
@Enrique, YUP
@Enrique, Meh… I think that’s a lateral move, at best. Alvarez and McCann are virtually even in the 5 regular cats (dunno’ what your 6th cat is). You know what McCann will give you (~23 HR, ~85 RBI), Alvarez has that and upside. Plus you’d give up Bonifacio? I wouldn’t… I’d look for a way to trade speed for power. Bourn for Wieters would be a good swap.
Samardzijia or Jarrod Parker?
@Jangles, @Grey Actually drop either Parker, Bud Norris or Scott Downs for Samardzija? Thanks Grey!
@Jangles, Parker
Hold onto Scott Downs? Thanks Grey
@Jangles, Yeah
12-team H2H, 6×6 (OBP, QS), moves limit at 50 (I’m at 8), 4-player keeper (can only keep players drafted after the 4th round)
I am in need of pitching with a record of 3-1, I have a bunch of players to drop (Ross, Leake, Marmol, Lind) and an available roster spot with Chacin going to the DL… With only extremely crappy pitchers in FA, would you pick up Teheran or Peacock to fill the available roster spot…Also, would you drop any of the above mentioned players for the other rookie?
@Project_Badass, Teheran…. I wouldn’t…
Who’s more valuable in a 5×5, H2H league over the next 2 weeks: Middlebrooks or Aviles?
@Pablo, Middlebrooks
JJ’s dropped. Both JJ Hardy & Josh Johnson were dropped in my league. Are either worth an add (team listed below)? If so, who would you drop:
12-Team, H2H, 6X6 (OPS & QS = 6th categories)
c: Jesus
1b: Miggy
2b: Uggla
ss: D. Gordon
3b: Wright
IF: K. Morales
OF: J. Upton, Bruce, Parra
Utl: Alvarez
BN: Harper, Trout
SP: Bumgarner, Price, Gio, Zimmerman, Minor, Bard, Drabeck, Bass
RP: Santos(DL), Myers, HanK-Rod, Castillo, Cishek, Frier
@Scottie O., I’d lose Bard or Bass for Johnson (unless you can drop Santos for him…)
@chunk, Santos is occupying my DL slot, so no need to drop him. So, between Bard & Bass, you leaning toward dropping 1 vs. the other?
Also, not big on picking up JJ Hardy for anyone on my roster then, correct?
@Scottie O., I’d probably drop Bard if I was worried about ratios, Bass if I was worried about Ks. In a vacuum I’d drop Bass.
I don’t think you have anyone to drop for Hardy. He’d be a solid SS in an OPS league but you have Dee, and your offensive bench is already crowded, so I’d let him go.
@Scottie O., Hardy’s gonna heat up for the short term. Alvarez is gonna go ice cold.
6×6 (OBP, QS)
In a vacuum, how do you rank Beckham, Pastornicky, Espinosa, Lombardozzi?
@Project_Badass, Espinosa, Lombardozzi, Beckham
Axford or Jansen moving forward?
@jabroni, Whoa. Axford. Why is he available?
@Baron Von Vulturewins, It’s a one-closer-per-team league, I’ve got Axford and Jansen is available.
@jabroni, In that case, you’ve got to at least try and trade Axford, no? Also, remember Jansen might not even stick as Dodger’s closer, if he falters.
@Grey: Allen Craig or Alex Rios? Seriously man, you’ll probably get random player questions like this as I navigate through the emergency room known as my fantasy team.
@William, Craig
nl-only
lance berkman
for
ted lilly
jason bay
@Ferris, Berkman
In a points league, who ya got: Travis Hafner, Josh Reddick, or Delmon Young?
Note: No points are granted in my league for anti-Semitic lash-outs.
@jabroni, Ha! Reddick
Hey Grey, is Jeff Samardzija going to have his innings capped this year or will he be unleashed for 200?
@Gosta, He shouldn’t… Maybe be skipped in September…
Grey,
I am in a standard 5×5 12 team Roto. I am in need of HR and RBI. I have great top end rotation guys in Weaver, Gio Gonzalez and Beachy (back end Hellickson, Lohse, and Jamie Garcia). My buddy just offered me David Ortiz for Beachy or Gio. Would you pull the trigger for either? I’ve got Adam Dunn at UTIL right now, but Ortiz is definitely an upgrade.
Thank you!
@JTR, Hold
Alvarez or Middlebrooks?
@TheBravesWearPrado, Middlebrooks
Cashner or Braxton? Also when are you gonna get with the times and get an Android app?
@Jermo, I think you have to go with Cashner over Toni Braxton. I can’t imagine she is a good closer. She had rotator cuff surgery back in ’99.
@Jermo, Wait, do you get points for bankruptcy filings? If so go with Braxton.
@chunkhaha awesome guys thanks
@Jermo, Hopefully soon…
@Jermo, In all seriousness you gotta go with the closer with the job. I’m surprised at the number of Broxton questions, he has been lights out his last few chances and there isn’t anyone really threatening his job.
@chunk, thanks dude I grabbed him (not there). Broxton is one of those guys I hate for no reason and would go pick up a lesser player just to avoid him. But in this landscape of closers he’s looking good.
@Jermo, There is an Android app. For some reason though you gotta open in the browser to view comments. I just use the browser for ease of use.
What do you think happens to Allen Craig’s playing time when Lance Berkman gets back?
@Mike, Not benching him if he’s hitting…
Should I deal Brandon Beachy for Cespedes? I need some pop in my lineup — Sandoval is out and Votto still hasn’t come around. I’m in a Roto league and my pitching is at the top of the heap (12 team league). I think I can spare Beachy. Would you make the trade?
@ThomasR, Nope
Sit one:
Stubbs?
A Jackson?
Mini-Donkey?

@rvde, Alvarez

3B ARod

Would you drop Gordon for Hardy, Desmond, Cozart or Furcal? Seems like I might be too weak in SB to do that…
Would you drop Scott yet for Tabata, Rios, Campana or Chris Johnson?
Thanks Again
@Booya, I’d hold
Is Jansen a step up from Motte or don’t bother?
Is Samardzija a better option than Lynn in the near future?
Is Craig going to play everyday when Puma comes back? I’d love to dump Prado for Craig but fear too many days off.
@frank rizzo, Hold
Yo Grey, I’ve got Anibel going at Houston, are you also starting vogelsong at the dodgers? 12 team mixer, 1450 ip limit.
Thanks.
@Alcesto, Yup
Better chance for saves this year, Pestano or Reed? Drop Luebke for one of them or still wait for news?
@Booya, Pestano… I’d wait for news…
start Arrieta vs Texas?
DL stash, what’s your order – Stauffer, J De La Rosa, B Anderson
@nightpandas, Depends… Stauffer
Do you think luebke is actually coming back? I have Daniel hudson on my bench and utley on my dl. Samardzija is a free agent and I’d really like to snatch him up but I’m afraid if I do that luebke will be back in two weeks
@Slam, Nope
who to start today Boneface (vs Hou), JD Mart (vs Mia), Trout (vs Min)
@nightpandas, Boneface
i’m trying to decide on an SP, i currently have 6 closers (with Sale now a closer)
I have Marcum, Morrow, and Price (I also have Sale (now a closer) and Hudson (on the DL)). Who should I drop Downs for??
McDonald, Hammel, Capuano, Ubaldo, or Scherzer
@wctip, McDonald
@Grey, Wow, really high on McD all of a sudden…
14-team mixed (OBP instead of AVG and QS instead of W). I’m projecting top-3rd batting and bottom-3rd pitching)
Which side do you want and how good do you feel about it?
McCutchen and Vargas/Bedard/McDonald -or- Cliff Lee and Josh Reddick?
Thanks!
@Far Beyond Driven, McCutchen…It’s fair…
Drop JD Martinez for trout? 5th outfielder spot.
@Duncan, Sure
Grey, where does your mustachioed blessing land for this group of backstops, ROS?
Ellis, ‘Netta, Salty, Doumit, Soto, Suzuki
I forgot to mention, 12 team mixed, OBP/SLG
@shibboleth, Doumit
any news on Desmond Jennings?
I traded Werth for him last Wednesday and I don’t want to lose him like the other guy lost Werth
@wctip, Day to day
@wctip, knee sprain considered day to day
Jhoulys you can do … awesome
Grey, in a 6X6 H2H 12 team, how would you rank these dudes for desperation* power/RBI help: Snyder, Betemit, Carp, Ian Stewart, Doumit, Matt Carpenter, Ransom, Garret Jones?
*I’m the guy who lost Krispie, Longoria, and Panda, so any move I make is basically just rigor mortis
@Graveyard Duck, I lost them too… Betemit, Carp, Carp,
Is it too risky to start R Zimmerman today?….that is, IF he actually returns today.
Thanks.
@scott, I’m starting him.
12 team, h2h, yahoo scoring….mark reynolds or will middlebrooks?
@jack, Reynolds
Who to start this week in deep 20-team H2H-Points leagues?

OR
Feliz @BAL (Arrieta) & vsLAA (Weaver)
@Commish Cauda, Bedard, Feliz
12 team roto mixed league
I’m doing just fine in steals and have Gardner coming off the DL this week. I know Grey doesn’t seem to be a big fan of Trumbo but he continues to hit and is playing everyday (also he has great position eligibility).
Is a trade of Gardner for Trumbo a good idea?
@Chris, No
@Chris, I would do it, especially if you’re good in steals. I have Trumbo everywhere and even if he doesn’t play everyday his end of year stats will be rewarding. As long as you can make daily changes…
How is Werth at this very moment missing like an entire arm while a team of surgeons tries to attach a robot arm and yet still not official on the DL? Day-to-day my A! This is not a question. I just felt like ranting.
@BERK, FWIW, I think ESPN still has Gamel listed as DTD when he was announced done for the year over a week ago.
@Chillmodious, That blows. I wonder if I should just drop him.
Seager or Chris Johnson ROS
Thanks
@Ryan, Johnson
Couple things to note: The day after playing 11 innings and needing 5 scoreless from their pen, the Cubs definitely wanted their starter to go deep. Samardzija was closing in on 100 pitches through 6 but the Cubs sent him out for the 7th and though he needed a little luck to get out of a jam, he did get out. Having a guy give you 7 solid against the top scoring offense in the NL on a night when you don’t want to get into your middle guys again is a solid performance and a sign that maybe Samardzija is for real. His stuff is really nasty.
Fangraphs has a thing where the calculate “pitch value” for each pitch a pitcher throws. It’s kind of like a runs saved style calculation. To give you an idea of the scale, the best pitch out there is Lance Lynn’s fastball, a ridiculous 10.7. Verlander’s FB is a 4.8. I was looking at cutters yesterday. The five top cutters among starters belong to Tommy Hunter(5.6), Zambrano(3.8), Jerome Williams(3.3), Hochevar(2.1) and Samardzija (2.0). Hunter’s fastball, though, has a -7.6 value. Hochevar’s is -5.6 and they have no other plus pitches. Zambrano and Samardzija have -1.5 and -1.6 respectively on their fastball. Interestingly Samardzija has one of the highest average fastball velocities, but it’s his worst pitch. He has three other plus pitches: the slider, cutter, and splitter are all killing. Jerome Williams is the only guy with a top cutter that is also getting plus results from his fastball and he’s also got a plus curve. Zambrano’s curve and slider are also plus. Those three guys are doing a really good job of mixing pitches and have a legitimate out pitch with the cutter. Would not be surprised to see all three sustain their early success.
Why is Justin Upton hitting second? I’m getting the feeling that Kirk Gibson is not totally in love with Upton this year. Not only did he hit 2nd last night, he also was removed as part of double switch. Not what you want to see from an MVP candidate/the guy you took in the first round of your roto draft.
Lastly…break up Bryan LaHair! Just missed a homer in the second inning last night before hitting his 8th bomb in his next at bat.
@OaktownSteve, thanks for the breakdown! Do you think Jerome is worth a pickup in a 15 team league?
@nightpandas, I guess it depends on what the pitching landscape is like. I am stupid high on him right now. Grey will be along to talk you down in a second. I give him a 3.50 or better ERA, a WHIP around 1.20, 12-14 wins and 160 ks. If that helps your team then pull the trigger. I think he could beat all those number potentially. This week’s start in Texas is pretty interesting. Really the big test in the AL right now for any pitcher. If he comes out relatively unscathed, it’s another reason to believe.
@OaktownSteve, my other options are: Arrieta, Milone, Blanton, Danks, Dickey, H Alvarez ( cats: W/L/ERA/WHIP/K/K/9)
@nightpandas, tough call. Arrieta I fear his divisional match ups. He looks very solid right now and is sporting the k/9 right now.
Joe Blanton is kind of interesting. He’s gone through stretches in his career where he’s been really really good (like right now). For year’s he’d struggle early in the season and then put it together in August/Sept. I think there was point in his career where he had a sub-2 Aug/Sept era. Possible this is the year he’s put it all together.
Dickey is underrated. His K/9 at a career high right now so might regress a bit (or not who knows). The park doesn’t help as much as it did years past, but NL East still a pretty good pitchers division. The only team in the division not in a pitchers park can’t hit (Phillies).
I like Milone but I think he’ll be up and down.
Would not be as interested in Danks and Alvarez could be a K/9 killer.
I might go Dickey just because he’s NL.
@OaktownSteve, I would suspect that Jerome is getting plus results with his fastball because it’s a sinker. He’s throwing mostly cutters to LHH and mostly sinkers to RHH, the proper fastballs to pitch each hitter.
@Feeding the Abscess, It’s as very good two seam that Jerome is throwing. A low 90’s two seamer coming in like a cannonball. He is breaking some bats with that cutter. He’s a big guy. Just really like the stuff and the make up right now.
@OaktownSteve, Am I reading this right? Lance Lynn has the best pitch in baseball?
So maybe I shouldn’t be looking to sell high, is what you’re saying?
@Baron Von Vulturewins, I mean yeah you have to take all these things with a grain of salt, but per Fangraphs math, his fastball is the most effective pitch in MLB so far this year.
@OaktownSteve, I’ve been riding the Samardjihad all year and he looks legit to me. The thing is, I don’t see him pitching more than 130 effective innings, so I’ll be selling the car before it runs out of gas.
@Wake Up, I’m betting closer to 170. We’ll see. I bought him for a buck in the NFBC auction championship. Making me very happy.
@OaktownSteve, Nice breakdown…
Grey,
What type of SP can be acquired on a 1-for-1 by trading Bryce Harper? I want to make sure I get my money’s worth because I’ve grown unusually fond of Harper (probably because I don’t own him anywhere else). I remember you said JJ was a solid trade, but I’m getting worried about his sloppy starts. Any names?
@Eddy, Anibal or higher
You’re writing never disappoints, Grey.
I need speed and I’m thinking of offering a couple trades:
Jeter for Starlin straight up
Greinke/Markakis for Dee Gordon/Victorino (Is that enough?)
Or should I hold tight since I’m in 1st and hope BJ Upton, Austin Jackson, Brett Lawrie, and hot FAs pickup steals instead of buying them?
My team if you need to look at it (12 team roto 5×5):
C Jesus Montero
1B Prince Fielder
2B Robinson Cano
3B Brett Lawrie
SS Derek Jeter
CI Adam Dunn
MI Dustin Ackley
OF BJ Upton
OF Torii Hunter
OF Austin Jackson
OF Cody Ross
OF Jarrod Dyson
UT Michael Young
BN Nick Markakis
BN Carlos Ruis
SP Felix Hernandez
SP Zack Greinke
SP Tommy Hanson
SP Colby Lewis
SP Adam Wainwright
SP Johan Santana
SP Drew Smyly
RP Jonathon Papelbon
RP Fernando Rodney
RP Raphael Soriano
Thanks brotha
@PunxsutawneyPhils, Thanks! Hold tight
@PunxsutawneyPhils, Actually, I’d take Castro… Not the other deal…
Good morning grey!
I picked up Cashner, Cishek, and Walden this weekend.
Now I need to drop one for a bat. Which would you suggest? thanks!
@mrobs, Morning… Cashner
@Grey, Thanks… but I actually just made a trade to free up room.
My C.J./Axford for his CarGo…. What do you think?
hopefully one of those three will runaway with the job.
12Team, H2H points, keeper
1. Please rank these replacements for Werth: Moreland, Nieuwenhuis, Reimold, CodyRoss, Tabata?
2. Thoughts on Jeanmar Gomez two starts next week vsMIA (ASanchez) and @MIN (Pavano)?
gracias
@AQuestionInTwoParts, Tabata, Reimold 2. Bleh
@AQuestionInTwoParts, Re: Gomez. Gotta like any starter against Minny specially at the Target. Miami warming a bit, but still seems like a nice double start option in a deep league.
You think Zambrano will have a better season than McCarthy or Volquez?
@Lava, No
Not sure why it’s taking owners so long to get on the Samardzija bandwagon, or the Smyly bandwagon for that matter. The former is throwing absolute gas, not walking people, and generally just looks like a different pitcher, while the latter is basically Mike Minor without the sleeper hype. I’d been juggling them between a roster spot for a while to get both of their starts onto my team, but finally after the White Sox closer situation blew up I had room for both and I don’t see dropping them anytime soon unless things come apart under the hood in a hurry. Now if Ernesto Frieri can just run away with the closer gig, man, I’ll be livin’ good in fantasyland.
@MH, Yeah, not sure…Samardzija did have a terrible start thrown in which hurt his ownership numbers…
@Grey, Will there come a time when Allen Craig is an everyday player for the Cards? Right now he’s at first base, but when Berkman comes back, where will he play? Can’t he play some second base? I know he can play OF and 1B. There’s got to be some way to get this guy into the lineup every day. I need Berkman or Craig to get 1B eligibility (8 games in my league) so that I can bench my Carlos Pena/Ike Davis disaster. What’s holding this guy back? Is Jon Jay’s defense that amazing or something?
@Eric Riptide, He can play 2nd.
What can we expect out of Michael Taylor in terms of stats, playing time, and do you think he can play well enough to stay up and start?
@Jeff, A’s have too many folks in the mix to make him worth a risk. Doesn’t look like he’s going to be a break out guy at this point in his career. I think he’s 28 or something like that. They have Gomes, Smith, and Crisp will be back. Reddick and Cespedes play everyday. DH is Gomes, Smith, Kila in the mix. Nothing to see here.
@Grey, Moore or Holland ROS?
@Scott, Moore
I stopped reading mid-post just to comment on the awesome Tribe/Busta Rhymes/Scenario allusion in your Stanton blurb. Nice. Going back to the post now…
@Grey
Sorry if this has been asked – how do you rank Samardzija, Zambrano, Smyly?
@I-Man, Samardzija, Smyly
Ellis, Doumit, or Netta?
@chunk, Doumit
@Grey, Didn’t see the almost identical question above, thanks for your patience, emoticon

Do I trade ARod & Jaime Garcia for Adrian Gonzalez?
I have great SP depth and Miguel Cabrera to move to 3rd.
@EK, Accept before he withdraws it.
Was going to ask whether it’s worth holding Guerra but then figured what the hell and dropped him for Thayer.
Have you seen Thayer? Dude looks like the love-child of John Axford and Goose Gossage. I don’t mean the pitches. I mean the facial hair.
I just have a weird feeling/hope that this could turn into those career-minor-leaguer-makes-good heartwarmers.
@Baron Von Vulturewins, I would’ve dropped Guerra, not sure I would’ve grabbed Thayer. His facial hair is abundantly beautiful.
Yes, do it now.
Markakis Rios or Lind for a UT position who will probably be benched for the hot Schmotato until they turn it on?
10 team 5×5
@stoopid, depends on your needs. where are you deficient? if your team avg is .230, you can’t have Lind. if you are desperate for power, Markakis’ 12 HR aren’t going to get it done…
@sean, I didn’t put a specific need on purpose.I have 44/50 hitting points with SB being my weakest but I have some slow starters in that category

$363 A. Sanchez @ HOU (A. Rodriguez)

@sean, All of them
@sean, Oh, I see, you can’t. Verlander, Kershaw…
@Grey, yeah, only a single starter. Thanks.

My Dread Pirate and Lynn for his Kemp.
No-brainer, fair, or don’t do it?
Thanks dude.
@L-Boogie, do it.
@L-Boogie, Wow…..either a major overreaction to a hammy or he is selling off thinking he will slump.
Take that in a heartbeat!
Which closer ROS: Aceves or casilla?
@Crap, ROS Casilla since Aceves doesn’t have the same handle on the gig for the long haul.
Brantley, Span, Boesch, Dirks, Wells, Saunders, Rivera, Torres…
Need 2 for my RCL.
Solid in R, HR, RBI; have a 6.5 in SB and 4 in average.
@chunk, Brantley, Span
Jeff Samardzija – Better option than Tim Hudson?
@frank rizzo, more exciting, if nothing else. you sort of know what to expect out of hudson.
@frank rizzo, i kind of don’t like SP’s who are coming off injuries…

Give Freese/Lynn get Greinke
Have Young to cover 3rd.
My sp’s are Felix, Bum, Peavy and Lynn.
Freeze to dl Lynn regress given, no?
@Kratos, depends on your hitting. young/freeze at 3B tells me that you might be light in power.
@sean, Santana, Agon, Tulo, Stanton, Hamilton, Cespedes, Jesus, Beltran. Loaded. I do this deal if I’m getting the best player. Peavy instead of Lynn?
@Kratos, peavy instead of lynn would make me feel better, the lynn/freese deal i honeslty almost feel like its too much, and i know the wheels could come off at anytime for lynn, but freese isn’t just a schmuck this year either… idk. I’d hold or maybe see if the peavy/freese deal got it done.
Where do you see Harper value with these other OF?(non kepper, standard 12 5×5 roto).
Markasis, Joyce, Harper, Fowler, Jackson
What to expect from Harper, am just better off holding onto him?
@harrrr, I like Harper’s upside and present value better than any of those guys except maybe Fowler, but he’s inconsistent and he has 0 trade value. You can probably flip Harper for a proven commodity too, or a power/speed guy who is starting slow
@sean, thanks..Ya, Fowler inconsistancy and his lineup spot changes are :(
I’m trying to acquire A.Jackson and Reynolds for C.Jones/Markakis and Fowler.
Gonna hold onto Harper for a bit, get some hrs from him then maybe look around.
I was offered Billingsley for my LaHair…thoughts?

3B: Alvarez
B:
1B: Carp
3B: Moustakas
@Grey’s da man!, A
Nothin on Robert Andino? Back to back games w a jack and 2B, SS, 3B eligibility? I’m debating dropping Chris Johnson for em in my 12 teamer…
@Jared, Eh… He’s hitting right now…
Would you start Arrieta today vs. Texas?
@Jon, wouldn’t start any but an elite #1 against them if you have other options. Could work out but they could hang a lot of crookeds on you too.
haha, 14 runs last night, 14 RUNS!
@Grey: Has J. Santana shown you enough to suggest he is more worthy than Lynn for the remainder of the season in a 4×4 NL Roto?
Thanks.
@Howie, No
This is a horrible quintet, but pick three to play:
Mark Trumbo, Adam Dunn, Pedro Alvarez, Willy Middlebrooks, and Nick Markakis?
Adam Dunn, Pedro Alvarez, Will Middlebrooks
Hey grey, I am looking for middle infielder help. Do you think perhaps phillips or weeks would be good buy low canidates right now? Do you think that perhaps jake peavy could be a potential sell high? Thanks.
@AP, I’d take Phillips for Peavy
Man, just as I’m starting to surge (8th to 4th in a week) Werth-less becomes Wrist-less. Now I’m getting restless. I have a DL spot, but of course he’s not eligible yet and, let’s get real, he’s probably an outright drop. Anyhoo, question time!
1) I’ll prob need to make a trade ASAP, but any of these guys worth a temp flier: Tabata, Dyson, Torres, Saunders, Gomes, Bogusevic, Brantley. Yuck! OBP league.
2) OF trade targets for Moustakas + an SP? I could try to shed Billingsley, Fister or Hammel (while he’s hot)..
3) Is J. Peralta a “better” own right now over (Guy) Frieri?
Thanks!
@Pierre, I don’t know why everyone is so high on Peralta (unless you need holds), as Rodney is one of four pitchers in baseball to record at least 5 saves without a L or BS. Plus Farns has “begun throwing” again…or whatever that means.
@Chillmodious, I’m not high on him…. I own Frieri. But if I had to guess it would be because everyone is waiting for Rodney to implode, and Peralta leeched two saves this past week. Farnsworth will be back in a few weeks, should be interesting.
Grey – still need some help, if you could indulge me. Thanks!
@Pierre, 1. Tabata 2. BJ 3. No
Chacin is truly a classic case of the Disgraceful List. Anyone catch the quotes from Jim Tracy? Hilarious.
“We’ve got to get him quieted down so we can get him back out there and pitching. It’s in the shoulder/biceps area. It’s not anything really specific, but there’s some inflammation.”
@Kevin, I guess the head could be considered in the shoulder biceps general area.
@Kevin, Ha, yup…
Grey-
You’re on effin’ fire today, truly laugh out loud shit. I live in Hong Kong and look forward to your blog every night out here, thanks and keep up the great writing!
Thanks!
1) drop rios for campana or logan morrison?
2) I have 4 3B and I can’t keep them all
Lawrie, Youk, Crush Davis, and Alvarez – also, Middlebrooks is available
I would like to trade 1 of these 4, which 1 to trade? Is Josh Johnson worth a gable and trade one of these guys for him?
@wctip, 1) Lomo 2. Trade Youk for Johnson
@Grey, any thoughts on why Johnson has been struggling this season? I am assuming that you see him turning it around?
@wctip, He might be hurt… But Youk is hurt and old and being squeezed out…
Grey if peacock gets the call is he worth an add in 12 team leagues?
@mets fan, Yup
What do you think about Andres Torres as a 4th OF in a 12 team mixer? You think he can duplicate 2010? Or at 34 years old, post-injury, just a schmohawk?
@WhineSpritzer, I think he’s fine while healthy
Parker or Minor?
@WhineSpritzer, Minor
I have been collecting closers because I cant seem to get any saves (lose this category every week in H2H), but it looks like I lost Luebke for the season so its time to drop 1 of them so I can pick up Samardzija… Which 1 do I dump?
Sean Marshall (never seems to get a closing opportunity)
Santiago Casilla
Chris Sale (thanks a lot CWS)
Jim Johnson
David Robertson
Thanks in advance
@Mike Jones, I wouldn’t drop any of them.
@Mike Jones, Oh, wait, it’s H2H… I’d lose Sale…
Question for anyone, all opinions welcome because I’m having a real hard time objectively evaluating my team.
I’m in first right now. Roto, weekly NL, 11 teams, no bench to speak of (you can’t sit pitchers) but unlimited DL.
Allen Craig’s back and I’ve got nowhere to put him. We’d probably drop Denorfia, but he’s been rosterable (Hinske, Mather, Aoki are some of the best OF names left on the wire). Although we’re in first, we could use a little help in pitching.
Our staff right now is
Wainwright, Lohse, Kershaw, Clayton Richard, Randal Delgado, Detwiler, Motte, Marshall, and Guerra. We also have Stauffer on our DL when he gets back.
We’re talking to two different teams right now. One said he was interested in Pence and Prado. He has Garza, Wandy, and Capuano. Would you do something like Pence for Wandy (other small pieces might be involved) or Prado for Capuano and slot Craig in to replace them?
Another team offered us Niese for Pence (obviously not) but has Latos, who interests me as buy-low. He also has Tommy Hanson (and Anibal and Gio, but I don’t think he’d give them up).
So I guess my question is, would you do Prado for Capuano, Pence (and/or equalizers) for Wandy, Latos, or Hanson? Or would you sit tight in first, drop Denorfia, and wait for Stauffer to come back.
Sorry for the long question. Again, all opinions are welcome. Thanks guys!!!
@Rags, I wouldn’t trade Pence… I’d consider Prado for Capuano but would probably wait for Stauffer…
@Grey, If it makes a difference, we have Heyward, CarGo and Braun, so Pence is essentially our 4th OF. Our infield is rather light-hitting though.
@Rags, Doesn’t matter if you’re getting hitting from your infield or outfield as long as you’re getting hitting… Unless Pence doesn’t play because you only have 3 OFs…
Would you take Samarzdija over Worley or Minor in a 10 team? Need K’s.
@DjlanceRauch, Over Worley
@Grey: drop Milone for Bass?
@herschel, Eh
@Grey: I know, you wouldn’t have drafted Kuroda, but if you had would you drop him to pick up Zambrano in a 14 deep league?
@PassedBalls, I’d prefer Z.
Thanks for the R Zimmerman response.
Also interesting in your view on J Weeks…worth dropping/selling in a 12-team roto? I have guys like Furcal, D Gordon, T Campana, J Tabata, Bonifacio….Weeks has been borderline at best and has been dealing with this injury now…should I bother keeping him anymore if I need to drop? I feel like it’s risky either way.
@scott, I’d drop Jemile
Grey-
Who do I drop for Jansen?
Feliz,McCarthy,Cahill,Lewis or Parker?
@Steven, Parker
I know that Marmol is not the closer anymore, but I still have him riding the pine in the hopes that he regains the closer role. (I’m assuming the cubs want him to be an effective closer so that they can eventually trade him. Is it worth wasting a roster spot on Marmol, or should I drop him and speculate on saves from either Walden, Fuentes, Thronton, Michael Bowden or James Russell? fyi k/9 is also a stat category in this 6×6 league.
Thanks.
@Principal Blackman, Drop him for Walden
Just accepted Edwin Encarnacion for my Bonifacio. Thoughts?
@Chavo, Sounds solid
Should I hold, or drop Torii Hunter for Maybin or Morrison?
@K!cks, Hold
Trade Wieters and McCutchen for Miggy? I could pick up Ruiz or Doumit to fill the catcher spot.
@Nico, I’d take Miggy, it’s fair…
@Nico, If you do it, take Doumit.
Samardzija is sitting out there. Who would you drop: Rasmus, Campana, Andres Torres, Latos, Minor, Lynn, Morrow.
@WhineSpritzer, Campana if you don’t need steals… Minor…
@Grey…..10 team, 5×5 mixed roto, 14 hitters/9 pitcher/no bench league, keeper league, each team keeps 10 guys. ive been offered ellsbury for my r zimmerman (both can be kept for next few years, ellsbury at $11, zimmerman at $19). ive had zimmerman for 3 years, he can be so solid, but oh so frustrating. i have solid depth at 3b (longoria hurt, c davis, p alvarez). my OF is lacking bigtime (ethier, cespedes, rios, boesch, fowler, werth,,,yuck). so, ellsbury for my zimmerman,,,your initial thoughts?
@LagunaBobbyI, And Ellsbury isn’t frustrating? Sure, with your depth, I could see taking Ells.
@Grey, ha, very true. i just haven’t actually owned ellsbury for the last 3 years, so he just seems less frustrating.
Great stuff as always, Grey
With the latest Jansen news and the Lincecum’s latest steamer… would you pull the trigger, accepting Jansen and Nicasio for Lincecum?
8-team, NL-only, dynasty, pts league… weekly format, two RP positions.
I’m currently trotting out Marmol and a dual-eligible SP(streamer). Marmol’s gotta see the pine… i’ve got Cashner on my bench too. I’m leaning towards accepting and filling my RPs with Jansen/Cashner, though i’ll prob stream over Cashner for one more week since he F’d his last outing in the A.
Thoughts? Grey? All?
@HomeRunfromBehindtheMeatballs, Considering your situation I’d say Jansen is worth it.
@HomeRunfromBehindtheMeatballs, Thanks! I’d hold Lincecum…
@Grey
Just traded Pence for Tex. Pretty fair for both sides? I have Morse ( and Longoria!) on the DL but can just shift Morse to the OF when he comes back.
1) My McCutch for his Granderson? I’m low on power and have tons of speed (Kendrick, Lawrie, Cargo, Jennings, Stubbs, Gardner).
2) Drop which CI for an OF: Goldschmidt, Alvarez, Moustakas, or Reynolds?
3) Pick up Trout even if I don’t really need him? I’d proneness dropping Moustakas.
4) Pick up Reimold even if you don’t have an open DL? It would be for one of the aforementioned CI’s
Thanks Grey!
@Melvin Emanuel, It’s fair…. 1) I’d take Grandy 2) Moose is fine to drop for Trout 3) Yes 4) Hold
Grey-
I’m the guy who dropped all his closers to punt saves category. Now i’m going crazy over here with the thought of dropping 3 starters to get back some closers. Especially cuz Jansen somehow is a free agent. It would be Jansen,Marshall and either Francisco or Capps as the 3rd. I would have to drop Parker,Feliz and either Cahill or McCarthy. Would you drop 3 starters to get back closers? My rotation would still be-Lester,Bumgarner,Gio,Marcum,Latos and one of the starters i listed before that i would keep. Would this be the right move?
Thanks so much….I sure hope nobody grabs Jansen before you answer
Rotation would be Lester,Bumgarner,Gio,Marcum,Latos,Lewis
Closers would be Jansen,Marshall,Francisco or Capps
@Steven, Grab Jansen and Marshall…
@Grey, for Parker and McCarthy or Parker and Feliz?
campana or lind?
@aj, Campana — apples and oranges…
****THERE’S A NEW POST FOR FOLLOWUPS.****
@Grey, nice
@Grey,
Jog with me for a second…
Before yesterday’s news that Downs’ injury was not that bad, I dropped Downs (instead of Cashner) for Samardzija and it worked out well.
After watching Thayer work a clean 9th last night, I figured I’d hold Cashner for at least another day to see how the Padres deal with the next save opp–hedging my bets with the knowledge that I can likely drop Cashner for Downs tomorrow with my waiver claim, or for Thayer at a second’s notice.
I am now considering dropping Cashner for Jarrod Parker (whose start against Toronto was moved back to today) and starting him later on. If he has a bad day today I could then drop him for Thayer at any moment OR conditionally drop him for Downs tomorrow using my waiver claim. (And if Parker has a great day today then there’s no bad move)
How do you feel about that? (I guess it comes down to how much faith you have in Cashner, plus where you see the value of Thayer/Downs in the near future) Thank you, o wise one!
@Chillmodious, oops, I’m going to paste this in to the new post.
@Chillmodious, here’s what I like about Cashner:
101
100

Yeah, he walks people. But jeez, does he have heat.
Looking to upgrade at SS — thinking about offering a SP for Starlin Castro since I’m doing ok with pitching. Who would be a fair offer? My pitchers are: Gio, Anibal Sanchez, Beckett, Worley, David Price, Lynn, Beckett, Kuroda & Nova.
I’ve been offered Kelly Johnson for Ryan Dempster. I have Jemile Weeks at 2B. Hamels, Beachy, Anibal, Lester and Bauer are my SPs.
Can I get more for Dempster or is Johnson reasonable?
Thanks
Probably my favorite roundup of the season so far.
You starting Masterson v CWS today.
I got a little drunk on Sunday and woke up with Cody Ransom on my team. Glad to pick up the home run last night, but should I be getting rid of this turd immediately?
I really have no idea why I would grab a guy who plays every third game.
Don Kenley is building the perfect beast.
The Dutch Oven’d comment is now proudly displayed on our league website home page for all to see. Still laughing at that one.
Okay so can you rank these SP then
Smyly, Samardzija, Big Z, Lilly, Minor
thanks
Feliz, Marcum or A. Sanchez ROS?
Grey, Choose your top two in a H2H mixed 12 team league:
Kuroda, J Parker, Saunders, Hammel, Zambrano, Dickey, Volquez, Capuano, and MacDonald.
Thanks!
