Name Team Opp. 1 Opp. 2
Justin Verlander HOU @CLE SEA
Shane Bieber CLE HOU LAA
Patrick Corbin WSH ATL @ARI

The Biebs has been getting plenty of attention since throwing his complete game shutout that was almost a perfecto. Let’s take a look at the ridiculous stuff that Patrick Corbin has been doing though.

He had a bit of a rough patch at the end of May/start of June, but has pulled it together since then, and has only allowed more than one ER in 2 out of his previous 7 starts, and only gave up 2 ERs and 3 ERs in each. He’s gone at least 6 innings and all but one of those starts to the tun of a 1.60 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 6.3% BB rate, and a b-e-a-utiful 32.8% K rate.

It’s not some crazy lucky streak either as we’re looking at a .317 BABIP, 2.00 FIP, and only 3 of the starts against below average offenses.

Here’s how the rest of the tiers look…

Greg Holland was pulled after walking two guys in a row on Wednesday night. Every pitch was a ball, but he got one foul ball to make it nine pitches. Yoan Lopez came in to clean it up. The DBacks have said there’s not an injury, but it’s worth monitoring either way. Here are some other notes from this week…

  • Blake Parker DFA’d.
  • The Cardinals bullpen has been nasty. Any number of people could grab that job if something were to happen.
  • Somehow Roenis Elias keeps getting saves. I’ve moved him back to the lead, but don’t feel great about it.
  • Freddy Peralta could fix the hole in the Brewers pen.
  • Jose Leclerc, Keone Kela, Shane Greene, Roenis Elias, and Jake Diekman are some of the names that are being rumored to be on the move.
  • I’m not saying the Padres should trade Kirby Yates, but Andres Munoz is filthy…

The Fantasy Master Lothario joins the Ditka Boys again on this week’s baseball podcast. They discuss Grey’s industry leagues for way too long before diving into some real baseball talk about 2nd half rankings. Grey discusses his process in compiling his preseason rankings compared to his 2nd half top 100 and then Donkey Teeth grills him on ranking of Vlad Jr (#71).

After some discussion about mid-season fantasy baseball trading, the guys chat about Donkey Teeth’s ranking of Trevor Bauer in his most recent Top 100 Starting Pitchers post. And finally Grey really begins to sweat when German Marquez’s name is brought up. Find out what Grey, B_Don, and Donkey Teeth expect from Marquez moving forward, and don’t miss out on the big announcement from the football side!

After a weekend out at a bachelor party in Charleston, that means sitting down to put these starts together while also fighting off sleep at the same time. No commentary under the sections this week, but wanted to make sure I got the rankings and information out there for you to set your lineups.

Filling in for Roto-Wan and as Vicky Valencourt said…

  • Reminder that there is only 1 trade deadline this year. No waiver trades this season, so, teams will have to make that decision to buy or sell sooner rather than later.
  • The Giants are considering whether to be….buyers? What? Yeah, we both read that right. Well, for now, their bullpen is confusing AF anyway, so, take your closer in waiting opportunities somewhere else. I will say that Melancon is back and has been getting late game opps recently potentially for a showcase as they’d probably like to move that $14 million contract for next year.
  • Stroman and Giles have been linked to a number of teams.
  • Mychal Givens has been looked at for a move to Mee-lee-wah-kay

  • Ok, the Brewers are basically linked to every reliever, and starter, available.
  • If you’re looking around for some steals, Mallex Smith, Victor Robles, Byron Buxton (coming back from IL), Ramon Laureano, and Oscar Mercado are all getting the job done. Maybe one or more got dropped due to recent struggles for basically all of them.
  • Hard to predict when catchers will start, but some easy targets to look at for streaming stolen bases this weekend would be against Tyler Flowers, Stephen Vogt, Austin Barnes, and Brian McCann.

Donkey Teeth and I have profiled everyone in this grouping, except Kershaw, at some point or another on the podcast. If you want some detailed profiles, go check out those various episodes. Outside of the first week of the season, this is the toughest week to figure out the 2 start pitchers. There’s a lot of educated guessing in here, and hopefully, it helps your preparation. The table at the bottom may end up being more helpful once more starters are announced Monday and Tuesday. Nothing more here, start these guys.

Back from break, B_Don and Donkey grab their sausages and dig right in on some genius all-star break ideas. For profiles this week, the guys look at 2018 vs 2019 for two under-performing starting pitchers: Jack Flaherty & Zack Wheeler.
The Ditka dudes profiled Flaherty on a podcast last season if you’re looking for a more in detailed description of his offerings, demeanor, and more. For this show, Donkey Teeth explains what he thinks went on with Flaherty in the first half and why the Cardinals’ youngster is his favorite buy-low pitcher for the second half. Then, B_Don breaks down Wheeler’s repertoire and looks into the numbers from his 2019 first half compared to his dominant second half last year. Should you be buying Zack Wheeler also? Find out now on the one and only Fantasy Sausage Podcast.
The Sausage Bros also run through some quick pick up recommendations to round out the show. Taste that sausage.

B_Don and Donkey are back at it this week profiling two more young ball tossers. But first DT has a few words for B_Don regarding some of his pickup recommendations on the Razzball Podcast earlier this week.

Donkey then digs in on his profile of exciting Cubs prospect Adbert Alzolay, who features two impressive off speed pitches. The guys speculate that a longer-term opening may arise in the Chicago rotation for Alzolay; since recording Cole Hamels has hit the IL, so be sure Alzolay is owned in all leagues.
For his profile B_Don breaks down Marlins youngster Jordan Yamamoto, who has burst onto the scene with three very solid outings. The show is topped off with some rapid fire pickup suggestions: B_Don loves Ian Kinsler and Mike Fiers. Sausage, sausage, get your sausage here!

Charlie Morton TB BAL NYY
Patrick Corbin WSH MIA KC

There was a 3 start stretch where people we panicking over Patrick Corbin, but after consecutive starts of 7 IP and 1 ER, owners can again breathe a sigh of relief. The average velocity on the four seamer in those 2 starts is back over 93 mph and the command has improved, which allows him to throw the slider we all know and love.

The whiff rate on the slider in the last two outings were both over 32% along with the sinker over 70% GB rate and sub .130 batting average against. Small sample size, sure, but if you own Corbin, you know it feels a lot more secure starting him now.

Grey is down to his last resort and invited B_Don to come on and guest host. The Fantasy Master Lothario makes his case for Phil Collins as the greatest musician of all time. To be fair, he does have the greatest 11 beat drum solo EVER.

After some music talk off the top, we talk about the game for the chaps across the pond, and the announcement that Vlad Jr. will be in the HR derby. Grey and B_Don both give you their thoughts on Frankie Montas for next season and talk about some of the exciting young prospects entering the game.

The guys get into a Yordan evaluation for ROS and where he fits in the rankings along with what leagues you should be targeting recent call-ups Zac Gallen, Logan Allen, Bobby Bradley, and how the Mountain Mets will screw up the Brendan Rodgers/Garrett Hampson situation this time. So, if you can hear Grey calling in the air tonight….. Oh Lord….
