Two-Start Pitcher Rankings, 8/10 – 8/16

Welcome to the post trade deadline two-start pitcher rankings!

Let’s revisit some of the arms moved at the deadline and their potential fantasy impact.

Tarik Skubal – This one hurt… but as a Tigers fan, I do love Skubal. This was a key acquisition for the Dodgers, but I think expectations need to be tempered.  I can see a low 3 ERA (3.30 is my prediction) after his move to the NL. He is still one of the best pitchers in baseball and a fantasy league winner. His QS and W numbers should be on the rise as the Dodgers get rolling towards the post season.

Casey Mize – This particular former Tiger’s arm will have a much harder transition to the NL. It won’t be nearly as bad at the 8ER in 3.1IP as his Padres debut, but he will definitely be falling back to earth. His underlying metrics for his chase, whiff, and hard-hit percentages are league average with a below average GB rate.  This is an arm I am looking to sell if my fantasy trade deadline approaches.

Kevin Gausman – I don’t see a big change here in what Gausman has been doing and have full confidence in him to finish the year strong.

Foster Griffin – Guards picked up a solid arm and now have one of the stronger rotations in the AL. Griffin will get a boost playing in the AL Central, and his K% should start to climb.

Freddy Peralta – I think this is a huge move for Peralta and his future. I trust the Ray’s pitching lab to get him right and return him to his Ace potential. This might be reckless to ignore his underlying metrics and trust the Rays coaching staff, but buy him in your leagues if you can.

Jose Soriano – It doesn’t get much easier for Soriano shifting to the AL East, but he will be a key part of a team doing a retooling and not entering a rebuild.
