It’s chucking down snow in my neck of the woods. Perfect time to hole up and make a list of the top 100 prospects for 2019 fantasy baseball. Before we begin…an observation. The roads are empty around here except for pizza delivery cars. Ordering a pizza in a blizzard seems like a dick move to me. So I’m dedicating this post to the real heroes – the pizza delivery boys and girls braving a foot of snow in their crappy car to make sure Edna has her half-pepperoni, half-bell pepper medium pie while she watches reruns of Friends on Netflix. Moving on, if you’re just tuning into this station, we’ve already gone over the top 25 prospects for 2019 fantasy baseball as well as the top 50 prospects for 2019 fantasy baseball. For thoughts on every player and to see each team’s top ten prospects, visit our 2019 minor league preview index. Concerning these players listed below, my goal when drafting/picking up one of them is to net some sort of positive value and see them playing regularly. Essentially, this final group is composed of players with 50ish overall ratings on the scouting scale…not your superstars or even All-Stars, but a decent shot to carve out a career in the big leagues.

Roster resources has James as the sp4 for the astros. You don’t think that holds up? 72 seems really far down.

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Yeah, I honestly don’t know what to make of James. I’m higher on him now than I was when I wrote up the Astros top ten, and I get the velo uptick and all. I guess I’m just still suspicious he actually sticks as a starter.

      • aklang says:
        (link)

        Ok, thanks!

        • Mike

          Mike says:
          (link)

          no problem

  2. ninetyfiveslide says:

good stuff, mike. when it comes to traded prospects, are you planning on updating team pages retroactively? the mariners’ current [probably] ~top 3 prospects came from trades after the M’s writeup, but prior to those of the NYY and NYM, so those prospects seem to be in no-mans-land as far as writeups go

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Thanks! Yeah, I used to do that back in the day and I might do like one post before the season starts after the previews are finished to try to “catch” those no-man’s land guys.

  3. TC says:
    (link)

I play in a league with no minor league rosters to stash guys. I am contending now and we can keep 15. My question is do you think Wander Franco is a talent on par with Acuna and Vlad who is worth burning a spot on my keeper roster for 2-3 years? I could also keep Kyle Tucker. Thanks.

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

If you’re contending now I’d pick him with the intent to trade him. I usually don’t target 2-3 year specs if my window is today, but I flip them like crazy to try to win.

  4. Ben says:
    (link)

Just curious, how far out does Anderson Espinoza sit on your rankings?

    Thanks.

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Just outside, and you could make a case he should be inside. Padres are crazy crazy deep.

  5. Jeff says:
    (link)

While a lot of the other rankings I’ve seen agree with Josh James at his place in your rankings, none of the others have Michael Kopech this far down. The lead-in talks about guys with 50-ish tools yet I’ve not seen anyone claim that’s where some of his pitches rate. This seems a bit off

    • Jeff says:
      (link)

@Jeff: Add to that no Michel Baez and things look a bit suspect

      • Mike

        Mike says:
        (link)

you’re right, Kopech’s not a 50 pitcher. I dinged him cause you have to sit on him for a year. Baez is an oversight on my part. Thanks for letting me know. I will slot him in one of my two Cole Tucker slots haha.

Great list! Love the aggressive rankings for this years FYP crop.

Given those agressive rankings, I am curious how you would proceed with my team… Im in a 12 team h2h points league that rosters 30/17 Majors/minors through the year, and keep forever 25/15 with no values or contracts. Took over the team last year and burned it down, trading older vets for a bevy of specs including Vlad, Tatis, Eloy, Soto, Bichette, Hiura, Adell, Kirilloff, Alonso, Lowe, Gimenez, Mejia, and Robert. My league has an affinity for pitching prospects so i took full advantage of that. My majors are another story, as I have even more aging vets that I aquired over the course of the season and it allowed me to finish 3rd overall last year and miss the championship by 20 points. My pitching is full of young guys that havent broken out yet but may, like Taillon, Pivetta, Berrios, Ray, Godley, Stroman, Luis Castillo, Aaron Sanchez, and Glasnow. I also aquired Darvish and Tanaka through the year.
My question is would you go for players like Jonathan Villar, Max Kepler, and Collin McHugh, taking lower ranked minors guys like Kristian Robinson, with hopes of competing, or would you continue to load the minors with a few guys from this class, with the 9th, 12th, and 15th picks, like Hoener, Swaggerty, and Xavier Edwards?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

thanks! take the guys that will help you compete now

  7. Anthony says:
    (link)

Wow, Col Tucker SS so good to make list twice, 81 and 90. Haha, FYI.

    • Mike

      Mike says:

      ha! oops. Thanks, I’ll fix.

  8. Jim says:

Anyone want to help me out. I can Keep six players. who would you go with? Judge, andujar, Bauer, Hoskins, Flaherty, mondesi can be kept in the last rounds, Nola 12, clevinger 19, mikolas 22, trout 1, jd mart 2? I could trade clevinger, mondesi and Flaherty for Sevy last round. I was leaning judge, andujar, Hoskins, Bauer, Nola and Flaherty but I was planning to make hat trade so Sevy would replace Flaherty. I know I’m overpaying but I can only keep six. Is mondesi worth keeping over these guys?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

I’d keep Mondesi over Andujar and stick with Flaherty.

      • Jom says:

@Mike: ok I totally forgot to mention it’s a points league.

        • Mike

got it, yeah I’d still keep Mondesi

    Hey Mikey

    Building for 2020

    Keep 11 obp and k/9

Would you give Kluber for Whitley and Robles ?

My keepers right now are TShaw, Devers, Vlad, Eloy, meadows, Othani (bat), Senzel, Kluber, Heaney, Luzardo, JUrias and Adell and Sheffield a possibility

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

I would yeah. If you hit on Whitley that’s gonna be a blowout. That’s an awesome young team you’ve built.

  10. Anodyne says:

Of these guys who missed your top 100, which one do you like best?

    Josh Naylor
    Blake Rutherford
    Colton Welker

      Prefer Welker. Great username BTW

What are your thoughts on O’Neal Cruz?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Suspect hit tool and high Ks but big raw power. He’s one to watch as he hits AA/AAA to see how he handles better pitching.

  12. Johnny LeMaster says:

What general area in your list do you feel the talent drops from ~55-grade to ~50?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

I’d say right around the midpoint, like after that crop of arms in the early 50s.

  13. Ryan says:
    (link)

In our 7×7 h2h keeper we are allowed to keep 15 in our farm system. These are all eligible, I have to narrow it down to fifteen. The top fifteen are the ones I’m planning to keep, please let me know if I should swap anyone out. Thx

    Mike,

Doing a rebuild in a NL Only 12 Team Dynasty League with OBP instead of AVG.

$300 budget prior to the season, $415 in season.

    Currently own
    $13 Hiura
    $2 Alonso
    $3 Will Craig
    $3 Hampson
    $2 Nevin
    $3 Soroka

    We were offered
    $2 Esty Ruiz
    $2 Zack Short
    $2 Anthony Gonsolin
    $2 Troy Stokes Jr
    For
    $15 Hamels
    $19 Schwaber

My co-owner would rather only deal 1. Was hoping for your thoughts on the prospects. Seems like everyone is high on Ruiz.

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Ruiz is the only one I’d take from that bunch and you’re waiting until ~2022 to see him. My advice would be to hold out until ~midseason and trade to a contender. Might bring in more then.

Great job and a thanks to you Mike. My apologies if I missed them but could you talk a little bit about Gavin Lux and Jazz Chisholm? I was fairly surprised to see neither make your list. Were these guys close? Is there specific concerns that caused you to leave them off?
