Hello Razzballers! Welcome back once again to the weekly waiver wire piece. You may have noticed that I’ve switched up the format, and that’s purposeful, not because I lost my mind. But well, I guess I may have lost my mind – we’ve made it through five months of this marathon we call fantasy baseball […]

Scandalous. Can’t handle this. But the New York Metropolitans said it anyway. “Let me see that Tong” was the cry heard around the fantasy baseball world last night as the Mets recalled top pitching prospect, Jonah Tong (5 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 6 Ks) in his first career start AND gave him […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Welcome back, friends. After taking a week off to play the role of dad and send my child off to college, I am back and ready to talk about Cade Horton.
One of the top athletes in the high school class of 2020, Horton was a two-way star at Norman High School. Determined to play college football and baseball for the Oklahoma Sooners, Horton – despite his talent – he went undrafted in the shortened five round 2020 draft.
A 6-foot-1 right-hander, Horton never saw any time at quarterback for the Sooners and missed the 2021 baseball season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in February of 2021. He returned in 2022 and struggled during the regular season before finding his groove in the postseason to lead Oklahoma to a second-place finish in the College World Series. He was then drafted in the first round with the seventh overall pick by the Cubs and now is a key member of the starting rotation.
Let’s examine why Horton is an up-and-coming dynasty player.
Please, blog, may I have some more?If you blink at Matt Wallner‘s stats, you can see how he could be a perennial 30+ homer guy hitting .250+. Not a hard blink either, but a fast, something-in-your-eye flutter. If you blink super fast, you see ATT. If you blink super, super fast, you see TWA. Lots of old brands. Don’t see Wetzel’s […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?As the final days of August slip away, things are feeling pretty stagnant in the world of deep league fantasy baseball, at least from my perspective. The real and pretend trade deadlines have come and gone, there hasn’t been a flurry of minor league call-ups, and the free agent pool is as dried up as […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? Two weeks ago, I wrote about how we’re kind of over fantasy baseball for the year. Now, with football starting, a month left in the baseball regular season, many fantasy league formats entering their final weeks already, we’re really over it. Nevertheless, there is more to bring to you, readers here at Mr. Magorium’s Stat […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Saw someone recently make the case that Kyle Schwarber (4-for-6, 9 RBIs, 46th, 47th, 48th and 49th homers) would be a terrible Hall of Famer. Not like he’d enter the Hall and pee on the memorabilia, but as in he does not belong. Well, I say, I want a Hall where he does belong! Assuming […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Today, I’ll take a look at another tendency of drafters: a willingness to overpay for a big year, or, even worse, for a player in a bounceback year. To that end, I’ll discuss 4 players who have either outplayed their last season draft prices by significant margins or, at the very least, demonstrated a skill (or two) that drafters are often willing to pay up for.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Major League Baseball has now played about 21 of 26 weeks this season, which means we have a large statistical basis, but not quite a whole season, to evaluate players for our fantasy baseball squads. With the trade deadline past and teams looking to call up prospects to see what they have next year, or […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?In our 105th episode, Mike Couillard and Jeremy Brewer discuss the latest news and happenings in MLB impacting the fantasy game along with updates on new baseball card releases. Please, blog, may I have some more?I made char sui pork recently. Was very good, easy too! Slather a bunch of stuff on the pork belly, roast it for five hours and slob-down on the oink. Nah’mean? That feeling I had when I was slob-downing on the oink that was what it was like having so many of these Jays/Twins hitters! […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Rays LHP Ian Seymour made his first career start Monday after spending about six weeks in the bullpen. He allowed just two baserunners through five shutout innings, bringing his season-long ERA down to 3.18 with a 1.02 WHIP. At 26 years old with good command of a change-up first arsenal, he’s got a great shot to lock down a rotation spot for the stretch run, and because he’s under a rookie contract, he could look ideal to this front office as a cheap rotation piece for 2026 and beyond. He also gives this team multiple Seymours. Good vision incoming.
