What is up party people? Fantasy football may have kicked off but there are still fantasy baseball championships to be won, so focus up. Well, I suppose that if you’re here you’re already focused. And for that, I appreciate you. It’s been a thrilling game so far but that’s nothing compared to the thrill of taking home a championship trophy in fantasy baseball. One of the best and worst things about fantasy baseball is the length of the season. It’s a grind, plain and simple. Games happen everyday so there is so much more to analyse and (over)react to.

So if you’re still with me, I applaud you. You’ve put in the work and made it this far. The finish line is in sight and you can almost taste it. Time to bring it home and these guys are here to help.

Salvador Perez has been an absolute force at the plate lately. Well, actually he’s been great all season. Blasting 42 hoe runs will do that for ya in points leagues. Did I mention that he’s a catcher? As if that wasn’t enough the rest of his numbers have been pretty good as well. Let hi take you home and I would love nothing more than for the MLB home run leaders to be a pitcher and a catcher.

Christian Yelich ($3,500) and the Brewers are a can’t miss stack on tonight’s slate as they take on Eli Morgan, who has a 5.48 ERA and a 2.00 HR/9. Yelich is in a great spot for runs and RBI batting third for Milwaukee, and he can be played along with cheap high-upside bats in Eduardo Escobar ($3,400) and Rowdy Tellez ($2,300). Many of these guys are also worth mixing into your cash lineup – particularly Kolten Wong ($3,500), who is batting .283 atop the lineup. In whatever contests you are playing, you will want to consider building around these bats.

Congratulations!

I can only assume that congratulations are in order if you are reading this. The journey that we have been on this season has been a blast, and I am very fortunate to have you riding shotgun! The road ahead is definitely not for the faint of heart, but the finish line is within sight!

I once had been out with some friends and taking in some liquid courage, when a friend challenged me to a race. Now, I have never been the fastest guy on Earth (I had the Molina-Esque speed), but had been exercising and felt a little spry…or it was the buckets of Captain Morgan that we had consumed. Either way, I was feeling a little cocky and thought “what the hell”.

Fast forward about two seconds and I am lying face-down on the concrete with instant regret and unknown knee pain. No, the need didn’t buckle under my tremendous speed, it was the after-effect of tripping over the speed bump directly in front of me. Yes, loyal readers, the speed bump is a metaphor for preparation. Don’t just start sprinting into this weeks’ matchup! Look around, or below you, and determine the best route or angle to victory.

Mets Overwhelmed By Sandy A’s This Week

Can one start change a guy’s perception for 2022 fantasy? Yesterday, Sandy Alcantara (9 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 14 Ks, ERA at 3.24) made that case. If that was it, against a subpar offensive team like the Mets, I’d say, “Yawn, my good chap, let’s see it vs. someone who we think is good.” How’sever, that wasn’t it. Dot dot dot. It was how it was done. It was done with overwhelming nast. Not nasty, but overwhelming nast. Nast: the act of saying “nasty” but unable to finish because the pitches are hitting the catcher’s mitt before there’s time. In the 8th inning and on pitch 99, it was a 101.5 MPH beebee. Not a BB as in a ball, but a ground out to short. 9th inning? Oh, yeah, back out and hitting triple digits on pitch number 102, touching 101.2. Pitch number 110 and he hit 100.3 MPH. Pitch 112? Still 100.3 — miles per hour, not Z100. Then a 93.5 MPH slider and goodbye Conforto, who homered earlier in the night. This was as dominant a start as I saw in April, forget September as Alcantara hits 180 2/3 IP on the year. Next year, we’re going to see a lot of pitchers still struggle with innings, due to how funky last year was. Sandy Alcantara in 2022 will be one of maybe five starters you can pencil for 200+ IP, and a 3.00 ERA with upside. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Prospect News: Josh Lowe Climbs the Ladder, Garrett Mitchell Falls

Pittsburgh 3B Juan Jerez is all over my Twitter feed these days, which probably says as much about my Twitter feed as it does Juan Jerez, but that’s beside the point. Juan Jerez can hit, is the point. He’s slashing .307/.400/.521 with 6 HR and 10 SB as a 19-year-old in the Complex League. Would love to see him get a crack at Low A, even for a week or so, but Pittsburgh is getting stacked up on the lower levels, so he’ll probably have to wait it out. In his last ten games, Jerez is hitting .425 with 4 HR and 4 SB. Swing mechanics work bottom to top, maximizing the thunder in his 6-foot frame. This next bit comes from the department of redundancy department if you’re here every week: Pittsburgh knows what it’s doing on the development front. A lot of their hitters look like poetry in the batter’s box. They settle like still water then strike from their core through to their hands.

The date was July 6, 2018. My debut with Razzball. Before that date, I was just a home-league fantasy expert with literally zero published articles when Mattruss gave me a shot at writing DFS. I’ve been honored to have just the opportunity to be affiliated with Razzball. Hell, my first official baseball card was created in my Razzball likeness (also my perfect form). But today, I announce my retirement. Hanging up the ole writing pants. What will I do with all my free time? Oh, you mean the hours of 10-11:30 pm when I finally had time to create content? I’ll reclaim my sleep. I’ve thought about picking back up Call of Duty, but I’m not sure that my fragile 38-year old ego can handle a 10-year old sh!tting on me. Perhaps I’ll pick up a book and read. But god, that sounds terrible. Enough about me, let’s get to baseball. Just like last week with third base, the list will be the top 25 for the rest of this season, but we’ll also do a look back at the biggest risers (wink) and fallers.

There should be plenty of offense to go around tonight. Pitching will be tough to come by. The top 5 pitchers in terms of salary all have warts in my eyes. Wainwright shouldn’t be $10k, much less against the Dodgers. Eovaldi is far from elite and the Rays have the 4^th best wRC+ against RHP since the trade deadline. Manoah is Yankee stadium; Peralta’s pitch count will likely continue. Shane McClanahan is tempting but he gave up 4 ERs to Boston in his last start and LHP tend to struggle in Fenway.

Alejandro Runs Two Circle Kirks Around The Bases

If you can look at how Alejandro Kirk is built and not giggle, you are a much better person than me. How do you be so good? Sometimes I’m very left side of my brain, sometimes I’m very right side of my Brian. What do you use to shut off the whispers that Alejandro Kirk looks like a cross between a baseball player and a tree stump? An adorable tree stump, naturally. Like one used in glamour photos for a young family before a casino moves in down the street and steals all of mom’s attention with keno. Yesterday, Alejandro Kirk (3-for-4, 3 runs) hit his 6th and 7th homer, hitting .290, and has three homers in the last two games. You getting my one thousand percent guarantee he’s a hot schmotato. Alejandro Kirk’s 2022 fantasy value? He would be a top ten catcher overall if he got the at-bats. If you’ve seen his body, you know he has no ABs. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. Like him at a buffet. Rolling In The Deep: Is It 2022 Yet?

Here we are with less than a month left of the regular MLB season, and when it comes to fantasy teams, if yours isn’t in the thick of a pennant race it can get a bit difficult to focus on the task at hand. As I’ve mentioned before, though, I like to take this time of year to pay a little extra attention to under the radar players who are performing well, both in case they can help me close out the season, and to take an early look at who might be undervalued next year. This week we’ll look at stats from the past 14 days to see which players (hitters, for this week) have provided the most standard 5×5 fantasy help while staying the least owned, and those numbers will lead us to two outfielders who’ve been outperforming most of the competition recently, without too many fantasy owners even noticing. It’s interesting to see not just from a deep-league perspective, in my opinion, but also as a reminder that even in shallower and standard leagues, you never know what you might find on the waiver wire if you look in the right place and get a little lucky.
