Yerry De Los Santos is commonly known as Yerry Across The Mersey, and now that Esteury Ruiz seems on the precipice of being called up we have a new river. The best river since Alex Rios? Well, thanks for asking since I did major in geography at the Fantasy Baseball College of Charleston. 1. Mickey Rivers 2. Alex Rios 3. Esteury Ruiz. 4. Dylan Bundy, who isn’t named for a body of water, but is always a streamer. Unranked: Drew Waters. You know how close those were though? It’s hard to fathoms. Damn, you walked into that one! For the Padres, Esteury was called up to the taxi squad in Colorado, and, with Profar out, Ruiz could be with the team at any moment. Why do we care? Okay, okay, wanna get to the meat, huh? He’s got 50+ steal speed! That’s it! It’s a wrap! Okay, he could hit 10 homers and .300. Whatevs! I don’t know why the Padres haven’t just put him on the squad already, but I bet it’s any moment. Grab him now, before it’s like trying to grab water out of a river. Poetic! Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

The most popular song in the universe right now is Running Up That Hill by art-pop super queen Kate Bush. The most common comment about that song I see on the ‘net is “Hey, have you heard the Placebo cover?” Yeah, I own that on CD. The second most common question: “Would Max from Stranger Things actually be listening to Kate Bush?” See, I thought the big “plan falls apart for the gang” moment would be when Max’s Walkman — truly, the uncredited hero of the series — ran out of batteries for the 98th time, or the cassette unraveled or warped or got put too close to a refrigerator magnet. I didn’t think the final boss interloper would be Alex from Stardew Valley doing Varsity Captain America and, you know, physically stepping on the Walkman.

Hunter Renfroe has 13 home runs, but his 118 points and 0.527 points per plate appearance is not roster material. He did have 31 homers last year and 33 in 2019, so the power is real. This weekend Wander Franco hit the IL, and will see a doctor on Monday for his wrist and hamate bone and I want to die. Put me in a grave, shovel dirt on my head, and say your farewells. Okay, Wander Franco was barely a top 250th overall player this year on the Player Rater, so, while I expected more, if you’ve survived this long with (aka without) him, you’ll be fine moving forward. I have faith in youse, my large adult sons, and five adult daughters. Taking his place will be Jonathan Aranda, who was recalled. I will say this about Rays prospects, they roll right off the fingertips. Aranadaadadadadadadada, McClanahananananananananananan…Though Lowe’s a hard stop. Aranada was tearing up Triple-A. Hey, kinda like Brujan! And Josh Lowe! And literally every Rays prospect who comes up and fizzles. Aranda is a decent power guy with a solid hit tool. Think a young France. Call him Tintin. In most leagues, you can prolly find better guys on waivers. Now, get lost while I try to cure my Wander lust. Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Top Fantasy Keepers – Examining Jake Meyers

Welcome back for another edition of Top Fantasy Keepers.
Unlike past weeks, this week I am going to focus on only one player – Jake Meyers of the Houston Astros.
When it comes to the top fantasy keepers, it is easy to fall in love with the top prospects. Tons of experts have done the work of compiling the top prospect lists, which allows us to:
Look through all the lists
Come up with our own fancy formulas to weigh all of the prospects on all the lists
Create our own special rankings system and make us feel really smart
But not all of the top prospects become top players. Sometimes, those drafted in rounds 10, 11 or later are the players who become top fantasy keepers.
Jake Meyers may be one of those players. He never cracked any of the Top 100 Prospects list. Baseball America, MLB Pipeline and Baseball Prospectus never deemed him talented enough to list him with the likes of Michael Baez, Luiz Gohara or Estevan Florial. Or how about Heliot Ramos, Willie Calhoun and Kolby Allard. Those are six former Top 100 prospects – and how well have they done in the majors?
Sometimes the mid-round draft choice becomes the better player and the better fantasy keeper than a top prospect. Is Jake Meyers one of those players? Let’s take a look.
