This must be one of the most exciting trade deadlines in history. We had established closers switching teams, gold gloves moving to greener pastures and some young 23 year old demanding one of the biggest prospect hauls we have ever seen. The trade deadline is always an interesting lottery for our fantasy game. For forward looking owners, there is an opportunity to prospect into new values or simply get some dumb luck. Either way, the deadline is certainly a delight for viewers and owners alike. This week our Top 100 Hitters takes a shuffle thanks to the deadline and beginning of the seconds half as we stare down the last two weeks of the 2022 fantasy baseball season.

With the trade deadline behind us, teams have taken shape for their stretch run. Some teams made some small moves to address areas of concerns. Some teams went out and made some trades like the Padres, where they consolidated five teams into one massive Superteam that could invade a country. “Hey, what’s up Mexico? Or should I say ‘Que paso?’ We’ve got Trent Grisham holding your El Presidente hostage and we’re going to be needing all of your natural resources.” Sorry, that’s a spoiler alert, because that’s how the show Narcos ends, with the Padres invading Mexico. Then some other teams took a more conservative approach and just simply brought up a top prospect. Enter: the Dodgers’ Miguel Vargas. Here’s what Prospect Itch said about him, “I’ve been trying to trade for Vargas in several of my leagues for a long time, and I’m not giving up now. In 83 AA games, the 6’3” 205 lb Vargas slashed .321/.386/.523 with 16 HR and 7 SB. Math isn’t my first language, but that would prorate out to an acceptable fantasy campaign, I think. His best trait is a double-plus hit tool that lets his solid power play up. Only thing he’s missing is a left hook to knock out Grey.” Okay, not cool. This year, Vargas did more of the same, going 15/123/.291 in Triple-A with a 14.6% strikeout rate. For a 22-year-old, those numbers are muy bueno, as the Padres would say after invading Mexico. Anyway, here’s some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:

Y’all just don’t understand, as one of the many dozens of Padres fans, I’m just padresing so hard right now, any discussion about the trade deadline might get me faint again. And you won’t like me when I’m faint. Mainly because I’m unconscious, but hey, no judgements. So we got a dude here in Rhys Hoskins that made me waste a pun that could have been used during Halloween for 100% cross-synergy points, but a dude who is hitting quite well and is flying under the radar, well, at least under enough to perhaps have some allure for the teams out there making a push into their playoff phase. An interesting piece to the puzzle that is your fantasy baseball team, and quite possibly the most calming content I can write as my Padres go full NBA super-team on the MLB.

The trade deadline came and went in a blaze of glory. As a lifelong Cardinals, the rumors and conversations about trading for Juan Soto had me feeling like I was living on a prayer. In true Cardinals’ fashion, they would ultimately lose out on acquiring the 23 year old, generational talent, to the Padres. If we find out that it truly came down to not wanting to give up Dylan Carlson, it will leave a bad taste in my mouth like bad medicine does. While it wasn’t just Juan Soto, there were plenty of big names that had to learn new zip codes. Josh Hader was the first big name to pack his bags, as he joined Soto in San Diego. The Yankees brought in Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino, and shipped Jordan Montgomery on two separate deals. If the Cardinal faithful is upset over losing Harrison Bader, just know that I’ll be there for you, JOMO! If our friend CoolWhip didn’t have it bad enough with his Angels, they up and ship Raisel Iglesias to the Braves, to which I felt shot through the heart, since he was a staple on a lot of my fantasy teams. While these are just a few of the big names, there are cascading effects across the league as a result of the movement. Maybe there are a few players that will see some increased playing time or go to a more advantageous environment? Let’s see if there are any name that might help you Get Ahead In Head To Head For Week 16.

The Rangers must be looking for a Bubba sparks to rock it very well, because they’re calling up outfielder, Bubba Thompson (1-for-3). Looking at my fantasy team with no speed, “Ah, yeah, I found you, team with an outfield that is booty.” Seeing Prince Fielder’s poster in the Hall of Legends in Arlington, singing softly, “Booty, booty, booty, booty, rockin’ everywhere.” Walking into the VIP section of the loge deck, “Hit the player’s club for bout a month or two,” rubs pluot on shirt, “Get it ripe, get it right, hit it with a bite.” Okay, sorry! Bubba Sparxxx makes me laugh. So, the Rangers are calling up Bubba Thompson, whose minor league numbers are eye-poppingly gorge: In 80 games at Triple-A, he hit 13 homers and .303, with 49 steals. Get it ripe, get it right, steal a base on sight! He was in Itch’s top 60 outfielder prospects, and, one love to Itch, but even if he wasn’t, and he had 49 steals in a half season, I’d be interested, because the speed category for all of my fantasy teams is booty, booty, booty, booty, suckin’ everywhere.
