Welcome to Perception Vs. Reality, PVR for short. Not POV, you’re on the wrong type of website right now if that is what you’re looking for. Wait! Don’t leave! You have fantasy baseball teams, don’t you? The good news is that you won’t need to delete your browsing history after reading this. Now that I have your attention here is a little background. One of our DFS writers, VictoriaB, wrote this last season and Grey liked it. So, Grey emailed me and asked if I could ruin the concept this season. I, of course, obliged.

I’m going to be looking at the player rater and tossing out some names that you might have overlooked. This could help with your waiver wire and trade value decisions. Quick plug for one of our in-house geniuses, Rudy Gamble. Check out his trade analyzer creation. Not anal laser, again, wrong website. I got the chance to play around with it a little bit (the analyzer not the laser) and it is very easy to understand and use. It will be very useful to you if you like to make in season moves with your league mates. Teams have only played 1-3 games a piece so this will just a be a test run this week. Even though it will still be small, by next Sunday, we will have a bigger sample size. Samples! I love samples.

Did you know that the Arizona Diamondbacks are putting baseballs in a humidor?…. The humidor has been the talk of the fantasy baseball community this off season. How will heavier baseballs affect Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb’s power numbers? Should we roster a plethora of Diamondback pitchers? The Diamondbacks made the playoffs last year! Arizona was a great story in a stacked division. The Diamondbacks are bringing back all of the same talent and should also feature some pretty decent bullpen arms especially if Archie Bradley works out in the closer role. The top half of this lineup is just as dangerous as any in the National League and the rotation features 5 pitchers who are capable of sub-4 ERAs. I chatted up Scott Bogman of In This League to talk about his favorite team. You can also check out the player debate book he wrote with The Welsh.

2018 Fantasy Baseball Bold Predictions

It’s time for the hot takes! Are we recognizable enough to get smoked by Old Takes Exposed? I’m not sure about that one, but that is when you know you have made it. I love this post, we have been doing our best to give accurate and reasonable fantasy baseball information, but for this post we can load up and close our eyes and try to send one to the moon just like Aaron Judge.

It doesn’t matter if you strike out on a bold prediction. I could say Addison Russell is going to hit 30 home runs with 100 RBIs and you could call me an idiot, but I’d just say, “Hey, internet buddy, that was a BOLD prediction. I didn’t mean it. I just arranged some words and numbers together and threw them at the wall to see if they’d stick.” I have actually seen accounts on twitter that try and ride a bold predictions that they’ve tweeted to fame and it’s hilarious. That would NEVER happen in the fantasy community!

In the spirit of being reasonable, my bold prediction is that Kyle Schwarber hits 40 home runs and bats over .260 in at least 500 at bats. Schwarber looks different at the plate to go along with his body changes. He had a great spring and it wouldn’t be surprising if it carries over to the regular season. You might think that this isn’t a bold prediction and it might not be but the fact remains that his ADP sits at #157 and he is being drafted outside of the top 100 hitters. He will most likely out perform his ADP, but I think that he does it by more than people think. Without further ado, here are your bold predictions from the rest of your favorite Razzball writers…

The Milwaukee Brewers showed an interesting way to start winning baseball games last year. After a short period of sub-par baseball, they built an efficient line up without spending a ton of money or going through a 5 year rebuilding period. Eric Thames came out of the gate tearing the cover off of the ball and Travis Shaw outproduced his projections… by a lot. Orlando Arcia and Domingo Santana both got a full season’s worth of at bats and showed that they are here to stay. The Brewers also found a strike out artist in Corey Knebel to close games out. Well, this off season, the Brewers got a little more aggressive. Milwaukee added Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich who are both balanced hitters who can also scoot on the base paths. Lead prospect analyst of Rotowire, James Anderson joined me to talk more about the BrewCrew.

The Chicago Cubs are coming off of three straight NLCS appearances and one World Series title. The bats didn’t really get going in the first half of the season in 2017 and there was no way that the starting pitching was going to be as effective in 2017 as it was in 2016. Still, the Cubs had too much all star power on the roster not to be in the thick of it throughout October. All of the manager speak and clubhouse talk points to a revamped desire to win and the off season moves points towards the same mood from the front office. The Cubs wanted to spice up the rotation so they added Tyler Chatwood, Brandon Morrow, and a guy named Yu Darvish. To take a little, you also have to give a little. Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis will not be returning next season. I talked to Alex Patt from Cubbies Crib about what to expect from this upcoming Cubs season.

The Cincinnati Reds may be a team that struggles for victories for another season, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have a plethora of fantasy baseball talent all over the field. Of course, there is Joey Votto who remains an ageless wonder over at first base. There are also flamethrowers Luis Castillo and Raisel Iglesias. Eugenio Suarez and Scooter Gennett showed some power potential last season and Billy Hamilton will not be lacking in the stolen base category. There are many interesting aspects to talk about so I grabbed On Baseball Writing Podcast host Eric Roseberry.

Baker finally hit the dust…y. Dave Martinez now takes over as the National’s manager as they try to bring Washington D.C. a World Series title. This lineup remains an offensive machine and still boasts a top half of the rotation that causes a lot of whiffs. There are still a couple of new faces to talk about and also a highly touted prospect who is sure to see at bats in the majors this season. I talked to Drew Douglas from District on Deck.

The New York Mets are just two full seasons removed from a World Series appearance. There are still a lot of the same pieces in the clubhouse that were apart of the World Series run. After the two disaster seasons that followed, Terry Collins is out and former Cleveland Indians Pitching coach, Mickey Callaway, is in. Perhaps Callaway can right the ship for a rotation that has the potential to be among the best in the majors. The Mets also brought back Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto is due back in May. Today we are going to take a closer look at the Philadelphia Phillies. Although this team won five less games in 2017 than it did in 2016, names of the future are starting to become established and hope is starting to perk up for reasons other than an Eagles Super Bowl appearance. Aaron Nola is on the verge of being a very serviceable ace for a contender and Rhys Hoskins emerged as a late summer surprise and instilled fear with his bat. With Ryan Howard finally out of the picture, this gun-shy team even went out and spent some money in free agency. I had some questions for Paul Boye from The Good Phight and he had some great answers for me.

Welcome to the Derek Jeter ownership era! Hopefully it goes a little better than Michael Jordan’s has gone so far. There have been more payroll cuts in Miami than ESPN made last year. So I guess we have a rebuild on our hands. Just in case you have missed any of the big moves that the Marlins made: They traded Giancarlo Stanton to the Yankees, traded Dee Gordon to the Mariners, shipped Marcell Ozuna to the St. Louis Cardinals, and finally granted Christian Yelich his wish to leave by trading him to the Milwaukee Brewers. At least they got Lewis Brinson?  I talked to Ely Sussman from Fish Stripes about his beloved Marlins. Just a quick note, this interview was done before the Chistian Yelich trade to Milwaukee.

MB here. You may know me from the football page of this elite website known as Razzball dot com. I have snaked my way over to the baseball page this season. Don’t you feel so lucky? We start off with the Atlanta Braves and this could really be a team on the rise. Hell, we could be talking about a playoff contender within the next year or two. The Cubs and Astros were ahead of schedule so why can’t the Braves be? There are a lot of question marks because this is such a young team, but there is so much potential in this line up and rotation. Today, we pick the brain of Alan Carpenter.
