Woooo, the Razzball Pod is back, now with more imbalance and effeminatey! On today’s show we talk Jake Arrieta‘s no-hitter and value moving forward, Tanner Roark‘s 15 Ks, and if there’s any value in Mat Latos. Hint – Nope! We also play America’s Favorite Game Ben Revere or Denard Span, discuss Aledmys Diaz, and how much we can rely on Kenta Maeda. And if you’ve ever wondered how Grey made his fortune, he gives us a look into his highly fortuitous foray into website squatting. Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

So I’m watching Raiders of the Lost Ark with my dad and following Tanner Roark strike out 15 Saturday afternoon, and all primed to write my “Raiders of the Lost Roark” pitcher profile. But then I was like, “Ya know what?! I already wrote on Joe Ross and the Nationals don’t need ANY MORE press! I’m not writing two of my first three 2016 profiles on Nats, get outta here!”

Option B: An argument I had with myself the other day: “Is Robbie Ray really that different than Carlos Rodon?” Think about it – both are lefties with mid-90s heat, plus off-speed pitchers, and are near unhittable. But they’re also two of the most frustrating pitchers to own with their control issues. So why would I love Rodon and bank on him figuring it out in my ranks and not have similar optimism for the also young (just turned 24) Ray? Mayyyyyyybe I shouldn’t broadcast to ALL of Razzball Nation my inner monologues… “What was that dream last night about? I think I was taking off my clothes in Miller Park with – – – -” Yeah, bad idea.

With Ray one of my two decent SP in REL, I decided to megalomaniacally (made up word?!) take the pitcher profile to Arizona and break down how Ray looked again the Pirates yesterday afternoon:

REL baseball logo newWe’re settling into the season now, and this dumb DC-Baltimore combo is just rolling over the REL!  East Coast bias!  The Nats have taken over the NL by over 10 points thanks to Bryce Harper being the best hitter on the planet and great pitching.  And just like the Orioles in real-life, The Orange Birds in the AL are surpassing all expectations thanks to some savvy drafting of non-Orioles that are flanking a great offense.  I hope everyone is enjoying their deep dynasties this year! Here’s how week three has gone down in the 2016 REL League:

Now punchier! On today’s edition of the Razzball Pod we talk big performances from the last week including Aaron Sanchez moving forward, if Matt Moore can contain his control, and Jose Altuve‘s ridiculous start. Shocker – Grey has been happy with what he’s gotten from Altuve so far! We then play America’s favorite game: Ben Revere or Denard Span?! We use them to rank some fringy OF and how they can fit your needs. Then we wrap going into an NL-only abyss and alienate 99% of our listeners… Hey, deep leagues are leagues too! Grey beat me with the parallel to the other Aaron Sanchez, so I’ve got to cook up something different! …dammit.

As I mentioned in my first in-season re-ranks last week, I mentioned I always liked [the real] Aaron Sanchez‘s stuff and had some of my worst early-season regret not ranking him higher. But after that sizzling (…crap) debut, 5 K and 3 BB against the Yankees in his second course (…ahhhh!). It was still a quality start, but if he keeps walking guys, he’ll be a recipe for disaster (…OK, I’m done).

While it’s still too early to make blanket judgment calls, it’s nice to start having 3-game samples on starters as we head into week 3. Sanchez is likely owned in most mixed leagues, but in the RCLs where the name of the game is streaming, I wanted to see how “must-hold” he is in formats where starting pitchers are cycled in-and-out more than sex jokes in Two Broke Girls. Oh my god, have you seen that show?! Wife loves it, but it’s written by 12-yr-olds who giggle during sex ed class in middle school! Speaking of: “boobies”. Tee-hee! Wow, this got way off track. One of the more interesting starters going on Sunday afternoon, I decided to break down Sanchez’s third start on the young season to see how his command is maturing (hopefully maturing faster than I am…):

REL baseball logo newJust over a week’s worth of games are now in the books, and while it’s too early to look at standings in most leagues, in the REL it’s not too surprising to see who is on top.  The Cubs are crushing the NL standings especially after a night where they rockem sockemed the Reds, and the Orioles and their 7-0  undefeated start – before losing last night – lead the field in the AL.  Probably the biggest surprise thus far are those aforementioned Reds, who sit at 3rd in the NL standings with a strong start offensively.  Speaking of offensive, check out my recap for how I just got my heart ripped out in a trade ala Temple of Doom.  Kahli-ma!  Kahli-ma!  Keone Kela-ma!!!  Here’s how week two has gone down in the 2016 REL League:

The first week of action is underway, and it’s time to punch our way into the season! On today’s show we talk the never-ending Trevor Story homeruns, if Carlos Correa could be the #1 pick next year, and my addiction to Joe Ross. He’s just sooooo good, that I illustrate it with pictures! We also have some mutual concern for Dallas Keuchel, debate if Delino DeShields was overreached for by Grey, and then play America’s favorite game: Ben Revere or Denard Span?! This is gonna become a thing, dammit! Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

We’re finally starting to settle into the season!  The Opening Week jitters are gone, and while we still say “small sample size” on everything – it’s not the size of the data but how you use it!

With starting pitching, most guys have only made their first start on the year – a few top-of-the-rotation guys have made two – so unless you see something drastic, you’re not panicking.  And full disclosure, I wrote this intro before Joe Ross‘s first start, so admittedly I am a little nervous…  I have several shares of Ross – on all my redrafts teams, I ranked him crazy high, he’s going to have my first born child…  But whatever happens, it’s still only one start!  This is one of the most nerve-racking Pitcher Profiles I’ve done!

My heavy investment in Ross made him an easy choice to break down for the first Profile on the young season, so here’s how he looked on Sunday afternoon hosting the Marlins, after having his start Saturday night postponed:

REL baseball logo newThe season is here!  The quest for deep dynasty league immortality is abreast, which is a word that is not used nearly enough…

If you missed the league launch giving in slight detail what the league is all about, you can check it out here, plus read our draft recaps in one of the sparsest talent pools you could ever draft in an inaugural league’s draft.  Max bid on Pedro Alvarez!

We’ll be checking in every week with updates from our 30 REL GMs, but I know what you’re thinking, “what’s the intrinsic value of looking into your deep league, JB?!”  Sorry, that commenter sounded too much like Frasier.  The comment would usually be, “BORING!”  Well, I think there’s a big value here – seeing pickups on FAAB in a 30er could give you some ideas for guys to watch on your wires in deep leagues as well.  Plus this is a Razzball Community league, and giving another outlet for readers to be on the site I think is awesome.  We don’t do enough of it.  You hear that Grey?!  We need to have a “be Grey for a day!” contest and have someone be you and write the daily notes!  Man I’d have fun with that…  “I interviewed Delino DeShields last night from my Motel 6 bed, and he said he’s gonna have a great year!” Here’s how things are going through the first few games in the 2016 REL League (with pickups stretching more like 2 weeks since the draft for this edition, but ya know, schwatev):

The season is here, the season is here! Man, it’s great having baseball back, and on today’s show Grey and I chat about some of the first goings ons including some great opening day K performances and how I’m officially calling his Robinson Cano hatred wrong. Small sample my ass! Grey talks about how he likes friggin’ Zack Cozart after one game! We then check in with Rudy and talk his Yahoo Friends & Family draft (I of course ask what Grey said in the chat room when he got Albert Pujols in the 9th round) and the Razzball Tools to help you win your season-long leagues and some DFS skrillah. Cash money babay, cash money! I really am the whitest person you’ll ever meet… Then Grey and I talk about our RCL ‘Perty ‘Perts league, where Grey gets mad at J-FOH for all his sniping. Nice work, Jack full of Awesomesauce! That sounded weird… And finally we go through our 2016 predictions and Razzball Staff Picks, where somehow, without any consultation, we found out J-FOH and I made the exact same AL/NL Cy Young and MVP picks. We’re long lost twins! Except, ya know, other than being tall we’re years apart and never met in person… It’s time for a parent trap! Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

The season is here baby! Boy what an awesome opening day… The Cardinals are in dead last in the NL Central! So beautiful…

Hard to believe we’re going into year 4 of the Pitcher Profiles. So much profiling! And it’s the 3rd year of the weekly re-ranks. I’m doing so much SP heavy-lifting that I might have a UCL injury!

Speaking of injuries, a lot has changed since I put out my initial ranks exactly a month ago, but it feels like this Spring was a little more injury-free than last year. In fact, the biggest elbow injury wasn’t even a pitcher! Take that, pitching detractors! It’s mostly been some surprise risers (my K:BB obsession gave me a Juan NicasiO-face looking at his stats!) and some guys losing their opening day rotation spot (wahhhh Paxton, whyyyyy?!). As always, green for ascenders and red for The Descenderists, who as a band should be marked in red. I haven’t heard anything about them for years!

We’ll be getting into the Profiling next week (everyone watched those first 3 games, seems silly to profile any of those Opening Day guys), so get ready for some GIFfing magic! Here’s my updated top 100 SP for the first week of the fantasy baseball season:

Less than a week away!  I’m more excited than that feeling in Grey’s pants when he drafts Delino DeShields…  I think I shaved it down to 3 references today!  I bet if you were reading quickly and saw “in Grey’s pants” and “shaved”, you mighta thought something different was happening!  On today’s show we break down my anti-SP RCL draft from a week-and-a-half ago, and also chat Grey’s draft in the Yahoo F&F (which you can follow along and read more in-depth here).  If you didn’t pick it up from the description, Grey was super pumped about someone who fell in the draft!  We also go over some notables from Spring Training, including a starting OF Grey hit on in his Spring analysis (in that he got it right, not that he shouted catcalls at him!) and a new starter in Seattle.  Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:
