Good day, Razzballers! You’ve got mail, and the message is to play Drew Rom (P, $4,000) in your DFS lineups tonight.
Rom faces the Pirates tonight, who have been clueless against lefty pitching to the tune of a 91 team wRC+. While I don’t typically like using pitchers in their MLB debut, Rom has good command and decent strikeout stuff, and on a night where we’d like to spend up on bats his price tag is some kind of wonderful.
Let’s see what else has us moonstruck for DraftKings tournaments on today’s 8-game slate, which starts at 7:05 p.m. ET:

The Core:
Luis Castillo, P: $10,300 – The White Sox have fallen to the basement of MLB against right-handed pitching (84 wRC+), and Castillo gets them on a Coors Field hangover.
Nathaniel Lowe, 1B: $4,500 – And the Rangers stack. Slade Cecconi is an unfinished prospect who has shown poor control and has struggled to generate whiffs. Lowe has a .202 ISO and .382 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.
Corey Seager, SS: $6,600 – In an effort to save me from myself, DraftKings has removed Ezequiel Duran’s shortstop eligibility, forcing me to pay up for Seager and his .332 ISO and .466 wOBA versus righties.
Mike Moustakas, 1B/3B: $3,200 – Third base is going to be Austin Riley if I can get to him, but if I can’t I’ll settle for the resurgent Moose at a nice price point.
Ronald Acuna Jr., OF: $6,800 – I don’t know what I need to say about this guy as he continues his historic season, except that our very own DFSBot has him as the top batter on the slate, and it’s not close.
Michael Harris II, OF: $4,800 – Not sure he’s quite core, but this is more about the Braves stack against David Peterson and the poor Mets bullpen. Harris can be a part of that stack, as he’s handed lefties quite well (16% K rate, .351 wOBA).
Julio Rodriguez, OF: $5,900 – He’s out of his mind right now and faces Touki Toussaint, who gives up way too many walks (17%) and hard hits. A recipe for three-run J-Rod bombs.
Tyler O’Neill, OF: $3,700 – It’s tough to find good help with upside for under $4K today but we can do O’Neill, with his .295 ISO, .421 wOBA and 19% K rate against southpaw Bailey Falter.
The Fades:
Allan Winans, P: $7,500 – Sounds like the guy who plays someone’s dad in the romantic comedy. Allan Winans earns his first Emmy nomination with a heartfelt performance! I think people will go to Winans after he dropped 34 DraftKings points on these same Mets last time out. He’s a guy with a subpar fastball and no other standout offerings and I think the Mets will fare better against him the second time around.
Paul Blackburn, P: $7,000 – Blackburn has been pretty good lately, and I think people will go to him in an effort to save money. However, the Royals’ bats have come to life as they’ve been a top-3 offense in wRC+ and OPS+ over the past month and have struck out at a low 19% clip. Since Blackburn isn’t a guy with overpowering stuff, this feels trappy to me.
Cristian Javier, P: $7,100 – He’s still not okay. If you’re thinking of pivoting here, don’t.
The Pivots:
Salvador Perez, P: $4,200 – Salvy has the power to take it out of any park. He gives you leverage against the Blackburn teams and don’t forget about the terrible Athletics’ bullpen. A mini-stack with Michael Massey (2B, $3,000) makes sense if Massey again bats in front of Perez. I actually don’t mind a Royals stack here, but I think it’s best reserved for large-field contests.
Jeff McNeil, 2B: $3,900 – Second base is kind of gross today so I’ll look at another leverage play. McNeil has a reasonable price tag and gets a park upgrade.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
No rain threats today. Hot and sticky in the ATL, just the way we like it.
Doing Lines In Vegas
I’m seeing the over/under on the Royals/Athletics game as low as 8.0 in places. I think 8.5 is still too low. I spoke about how I don’t love this spot for Blackburn, but he’s only one aspect of this game. We have two offenses that are performing better of late, a weak KC starter in Tucker Davidson and two poor bullpens. Sounds like some runs.
The Reds are too pricey to stack in DFS but I like them here tonight. Lucas Gioloto has not been good since coming over to the Angels, and he has a poor bullpen behind him. Give me a Reds team fighting for a playoff spot on the moneyline.
