AM/PM is a convenience store chain that....Can you guess? Never closes! The stores are usually attached to an ARCO or BP gas station, so be careful what you eat. Stick with the candies and sweets. Never, and I mean never, get cute and indulge in the hot dogs, sandwiches, or burritos. My favorite experience at an AM/PM was to mix and match all the flavors of the fountain drinks and slushes. I'm getting brain freeze just thinking about it. Anyways, there's a ton of bad inside of an AM/PM, but there's also a ton of good, which keeps people returning. The same can be said for the most added player over the week, Adalberto Mondesi (61% owned - increase of 42%). He seemingly does something everyday on the field. Since getting called up in mid-June, AM has a .284/.311/.467 slash with 9 home runs and 25 stolen bases. Back in July, a commenter asked me to choose between AM and someone else. I chose someone else. I did not choose wisely. In my defense, the same concerns I had back then are the same concerns I have now. 18.5% swinging strike rate, 37.1% chase rate, 66.2% overall contact rate, and 3.3% walk rate. I thought his plate discipline and inability to take a walk would catch up to him, but obviously he is too fast for even that. The two things that I do like are the 41.4% hard contact rate and his position in the batting order (2nd). At this point, all I can do is <insert shrug emoji>. There's a ton of bad with AM, but there's a ton of good. I'm a stubborn ahole, so I'm going to list him as TRASH, but I can't deny the production and understand why people would like to indulge.

There’s only about a week left in the MLB DFS grind. With NFL DFS already taking all the headlines, it can get discouraging for us MLB folks. What remains in the MLB pool are the best of the best, the diehards, the hardcore players. That means it’s pretty tough in cash games right now. GPPs are still up for grabs, as always, but know your pool is filled with sharks. We’re still here to help navigate you to safety. Also, with H2H championships in full swing right now, these DFS articles are a great source for streaming candidates as well. Savvy H2H managers may have already grabbed Anthony DeSclafani ($13,000) for his two start week. At Milwaukee isn’t an ideal spot, but the prospect of pitching in Miami on Saturday is worth the risk. Anthony got out of Milwaukee without too much bloodshed (5 IP, 4 ER, 5 Ks) and now he looks to help out H2H owners and DFS players alike. The Marlins feature the league’s worst team OPS and DeSclafani should be looking at another 5-6 IP and 5+ Ks with a shot for a win. That might not seem like much, but with the money saved it could be just enough to squeak out a win tonight.

O Lourdes', Yuli, give us the strength to win our final head-to-head match ups. Give us enough power to steal back those roto cats. Oh great and wise fantasy Lourdes...and Yuli, I know you can help us! Friday night baseball's Gurriel brothers, Lourdes of the Blue Jays and Yuli of the Astros, each hit two home runs. You go, Gurriels! It was the first time in MLB history brothers had multi home run games on the same night or something, don't quote me on that google it. Joe and Dom? Sandy and Roberto? So jelly right now! Sounds like a great STUMP trivia question in five years we'll never remember the answer to. Honestly though, these are the kind of family-centric stories baseball needs right now! With these look-at-me showboating young guns and their home run trots, and their fortnite dances and their neon cleats and their racist tweets. They're disrespecting the game! Anyway, Yuli Gurriel (3-for-4, 2 HR (12), 7 RBI) is likely already owned in most leagues you have any chance of winning at this point but little brother Lourdes Gurriel (3-for-4, 2 HR (11)) is still available in over 90% of leagues and he's hitting .400 with three homers and seven RBI in the past week. Lourdes have mercy! more like it. What is your MI doing? If the Lourdes is doing better grab him while he's hot! Dude's got a brother in the big leagues--that's called pedigree, my fake internet friends. Justin and Melvin Upton the ball is in your court. Wait is Melvin still in the league? Doesn't matter. It's not stopping Stephen and J.D., who I hear are already planning a comeback for the record! Only the good Lourdes can save us then.
Here's what else I saw in fantasy baseball Friday night:
Certain organizations just have a knack for success in certain areas. Might be the draft, trade market, free agency, or player development. The Washington Nationals however are equipped with a particular set of skills, skills acquired over a very long time. Skills that make them a nightmare for the competition on the International Amateur Market. If you develop Juan Soto and Victor Robles, that won’t be the end of it. If you know how to hit the stuffing out of a baseball they will pursue you, and they will sign you. The next Nationals stud international you should look for, find, and add is shortstop/third-baseman Luis Garcia. No, not that Luis Garcia, or that Luis Garcia either! Not even that one. So many Luis Garcia's, how will our hero standout? This
Luis Garcia. A versatile infielder, with a contact first approach, some power projection, speed, and athleticism. A player that ranked 128th on my
mid-season Top 500, and one that will likely be moving into the Top 100 in my next update. Today we'll take a look at why this Luis Garcia is the one to add. No disrespect to the next Luis Garcia of the Phillies. More on him tomorrow...

At this point in the season, it's like a tag line for a bad horror film, no one is safe. Narrator, "This fall, in a theater near you, Jamie Lee Curtis, the world's hottest cougar. A cougar so hot when she enters any room, a DJ plays, "Stray Cat Strut," but the people in the room replace cat with cougar." Unsuspecting person, whistling, "I'm just going to open this random closet over here while this ominous music plays. No, I'm not going to turn on a light first, that would be silly." Unsuspecting person opens the closet door and Jamie Lee Curtis jumps out, "Boo!" "Boo as in you want to be my boo, because you are so hot for a 70-year-old. How about me, you and the diner waitress who calls me sugar get a motel room?" Jamie Lee Curtis shakes her head and walks away as people sing Stray Cougar Strut. Narrator returns, "No one is safe, and everyone wants to sleep with the 70-year-old Jamie Lee Curtis, because she is so hot. Has she had work done?" No one is safe on fantasy teams either. In the Sells, I'll get to dropping, but this is about picking up (and not just 70-year-old women). There's a good chance I go all-in on Daniel Palka this offseason. Of course, before going all-in, it's important to get consent first. I learned this the hard way with Giancarlo. This post is just about what he can do over the next week. That would be best informed by what he’s done over the last week: 4 HRs and hitting .375. As I tell Jamie Lee Curtis in my daydreams, giddy up, sexy, we're going for a ride! Anyway, here's some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:
The past week has been an eventful one for bullpens. A whole slew of committees has emerged. Injured guys have returned. A couple challengers have even been thrown back into the muck of non-ninth inning pitching. The most notable of the returning closers was Sean Doolittle. He's really settled in as the closer for Washington and they have been very comfortable with him there. Most of us dislike seeing the doctor and opponents of the Nationals are no different. Hopefully, you've received an infusion of save opps as you look to close out the 2018 season. If not, SAGNOF at will.
What's up, everybody! As the regular season winds down (shut up! I'm not crying!! You're crying!!), these slates on
FanDuel are getting tighter, but the deeper we get into the data, the bigger advantage we have to make it in the $$. FanDuel has us set up for a 14-game slate to start the weekend. Once upon a time, there was a strapping young man who took
Luis Castillo ($8,500), up and coming stud, with the 73rd pick of their draft. Throws 95+, they said. Plus change and breaking ball, they said. Can't miss, breakout, they said. Fast forward to 3 months later when Mr. Can't-Miss sports a 5.49 ERA and earned a cut off my team (spoiler alert.....I'm the strapping young man). Well, here we are in September, and guess who's reeling me back in?? Mr. 1.46 ERA-in-September himself, Luis Castillo; and speaking of reeling, he gets a lovely match-up with the
Marlins in Miami. Going from Great American Smallpark to the friendly confines of Marlins Park (really?? That's what they named it??) should help Luis Castillo.....as should facing the Marlins’ AAA lineup <insert rimshot here>. Let's take a look at the rest of Friday's slate.

Briefly alluded to Stephen Piscotty in yesterday's roundup and how I'd love to the see the A's go deep in the playoffs. Do I think they will? Can pigs fly? No, though, Puig can hit deep flies, and lick inanimate objects like he's a fly regurgitating his food. The A's have two starters and they're named Mike Fiers and Edwin Jackson (5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.18). So, that's an uphill battle as they say on the way to the soap box derby starting line. They do have a well-balanced offense, which is a little crazy when you think about their home park. Ron Jeremy has less foul territory. Oakland is a top five offense, and their park, as it always has been, is a bottom five park for offense. That's so backwards it's like, "I'm getting so lucky on Tinder recently!" Then finding out you've actually been opening 23 and Me and you're banging your cousins. At the forefront of the A's attack -- A'stack? -- is obviously Khris Davis (2-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI), but 'a little dab will do ya' with Semien (3-for-5, 1 run, 5 RBIs), every Semien encounter begins with a Martini (3-for-6, 3 runs, 2 RBIs and his 1st homer), and Matt "Thank God I'm Not Matt Olson" Chapman (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) has been on one since July, but Stephen Piscotty is having the year everyone expected from him when he was on the Cards. I know he had some personal issues, but he might be the first player ever to not be better on the Cards vs. anywhere else they've gone. Piscotty went 2-for-3, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and hit his 26th homer with back-to-back huge games, and in the last 20 games, he's hitting .338 with eight homers and 26 RBIs. For 2019, what can he do? Piscotty doesn't know! Piscotty doesn't know! But I do. He can do what he's been doing this season, a solid third outfielder with 2nd outfielder upside. Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
All the games have been played, the seasons have been wrapped up, players are at home or in their respective Instructional Camps, and all eyes are on MLB. That can only mean one thing; it's Superlatives SZN on the Razzball Prospect Podcast. We kick it off this week, with a quick look at our Projected Top 10 Prospects entering 2020. I'm not going to spoil it and list out the names, but it's a pretty talented group (obviously Ralph). We start the show off with a quick run through of the recently promoted players, congratulate the champions at all levels of the minors, and have a quick discussion of what makes a top organization. We round the show out by running through the LIDOM draft, and discuss some of the top names on The Island this Winter. As always make sure you stop by

Happy almost-Fall Equinox, deep-leaguers! We’ve continued to tick the days off the calendar and here we are with just over a week to go in this glorious time of year we like to call the fantasy baseball season. I seem to forget each year how random (and often frustrating) setting a lineup gets each September, with expanded rosters wreaking havoc on playing time situations, pitching rotations, and accurate injury reports, but it will all be in the rear-view mirror soon enough. If nothing else, in the deep-league world, this is a good time of year to keep an eye on the teams at the bottom of the standings, looking for that proverbial diamond in the rough. This week we’ll concentrate on guys who’ve been getting regular playing time for bad teams. I find bad MLB teams are always a great place to look for deep-league fantasy help, and perhaps never more so than these last weeks, when players who would be lucky to be scraping together a few at bats for a contending team often find themselves in an eliminated team’s lineup daily. As is our deep-league norm, it’s unlikely any of these players will make a standard-league fantasy impact any time soon (or perhaps ever), but some may be of interest to those in NL-only, AL-only, or other deep leagues – either for the last days of 2018, or for us to put a pin in for when we head into the 2019 season and beyond.
Jose Altuve was the clear cut number two coming into the 2018 season. As a matter of fact, there were some "experts" that even dared to put him ahead of Mike Trout. Personally I though that was about as silly as drafting the oft injured James Paxton in the earlier rounds. Fool me once James. I guess that's why I put the word expert in quotes when referring to those of us that write down our thoughts and call it advice. Altuve has averaged about 512 points a season over the last four seasons with 0.738 points per plate appearance. That's pretty damn good. However, my preseason rankings had him as the fourth hitter behind Mike Trout, Nolan Arenado and Mookie Betts. Overall I also had Max Scherzer, Chris Sale and Corey Kluber ahead of Altuve. Regardless, he was an obvious first round pick.
Boy, where did 2018 go. This DFS baseball season has flown by, and hopefully you, my loyal readers, have had immense success this year (and hopefully I helped!). As we get into the last 10 days of the regular season, things can get a little wonky in DFS. Let's look at some general strategy, and some picks for today on FanDuel.
