Holy moly, are we talking actual live MLB players past their limits this week? Yessiree Bobby Jimmy! Michael Halpern the smooth, and debonair brains behind Imaginarybrickwall.com, and yours truly bust into our Top Dynasty Targets for 2017. While we do blur the lines of reality, and talk some major leaguers, we don’t leave you hanging on the prospect front. It’s an all out attack on the senses. Seriously, this episode is so good you can both smell and taste it. Yummy seafood chowder! Am I selling hard here? Good, because in all truthiness, this is the episode where you get a new Ralph, a subdued Ralph. A Ralph who writes about himself in the third person. Maybe I always do that. We go in on everyone from Marcus Stroman to Tyler O’Neill, it’s the whole lot of dynasty values. So take heed, listen up, and check out the latest episode of the Razzball Prospects Podcast.

NL only league, can you rank the following for their first 5 years in the majors?
In this league, you can keep players until they lose rookie status, then a 5 year clock starts ticking. So who would be the best for the 5 year period following full time callup?
I am picking third.
I am debating between: Amed Rosario, Eloy Jimenez, Ozzie Albies, Bellinger, and Senzel. How would you rank those 1-5?
Some others are already taken (Crawford, Dominic Smith, VRobles, BRodgers, Tapia, AReyes) –
Anyone with a 2019 callup date (or later) I should consider? Thanks!
I have a dynasty team that won it all with the likes of Lincecum, Daisuke, Tulo, David Wright and Matt Kemp, then it all came crashing down. We decided to blow it up and rebuild. Now our team is
C – Alfaro/Zack Collins
1B – Tommy Joseph/Cody Bellinger
2B – Yoan Moncada
3B – Tba… (But Yoan is eligible here)
SS – Xander Bogaerts
OF – Austin Meadows/Clint Frazier/Victor Robles/Marcell Ozuna/Hunter Renfroe/Bradley Zimmer/Ronald Acuna/Nick Williams
SP – Carlos Rodon/Yadier Alvarez/Michael Kopech/Anderson Espinoza/Alex Reyes/Steven Matz/Aaron Nola/Joe Ross
The team finished 19th out of 20 last year, and expect to be close to that again this year.
But when do you think we’ll be able to compete?? In 2019??
Also it’s 11X9 categories I don’t want to list them all, but the usual slash lines and counting stats.
@The Process: Might be 2019, but you could get some callups, and then make some trades for ore immediate players. Not this year for sure.
Do you have a couple of suggestions for players that might produce to a certain extent numbers like Edwin Diaz did last year? Not only for saves but for holds.
@TjVera: I really like Grant Dayton, and think he has a shot to be a great RP. If you’re asking for a top prospect who breaks into the pen then I would go Zack Burdi. Cj Edwards could be a good one. It’s tough to tell, because I wouldn’t have predicted Diaz would be a RP all season this time last year.
@ralph, who do you like better this year – Jason hammel or Matt shoemaker?
@KillerB: Shoemaker
Any thoughts or intel on Domingo Santana?
@GC: He’s looked good early this spring and has wanned since. Could be a breakout or someone who keeps the seat warm for Brinson.
So, in a 15-team OPS, dynasty league. MLRR draft (6 keepers) happened and wondering if I should stash any of these in my NA spot: WIllie Calhoun, Rhys Hoskins, Delvin Perez, and Bobby Bradley.
@Harry: Willie C
Dynasty league, Baez or Bird? Thanks in advance!
@DBo: I think I go Baez. Higher ceiling, can’t go wrong with either.
Hey Ralph,
Looking nice to pick a few guys brains on here regarding
My draft tomm.
It’s a 14 team 5×5 head to head draft, drafting from 2nd slot. Still not sure if I should go Betts or Goldshmidt with number one pick.
Would you rather start your team with Goldy, Story, Springer or Betts, Story, Freeman/Encarnacion?
Those seem to be the possible results for my first three rounds based on most mocks. Thanks
@G: Betts, Story, Freeman/E5
Which side 10 team dynasty– their Freeman + Archer + Rendon for my Kris Bryant + Teheran. My other 1B is Miggy.
@jal179: It’s an even swap, you’re obviously adding three good players, but you’re losing the best player of the bunch in Bryant.
Ralph, what do you think is the eta for Buehler? Also , where would he fall in your pitching prospects?
@David: Might see a start or two in September, but more than likely he’s a 2018 callup.
Great stuff as always. Two separate questions/topics.
Pick one two draft with your last round pick: Gleyber or Bellinger?
Rank these pitchers in a H2H points league. IP(+3), W(+10), L(-5), K(+1), H(-1), ER(-1) are the main scoring points. This is a keeper forever league, so “keep” that in mind.
Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander, Carlos Martinez, Zack Greinke, Felix Hernandez, Jose Quintana, Stroman, Tanaka, Carrasco, Salazaar and Teheran.
Thanks!
@malamoney: If its keep forever and ETA isn’t an issue I’d go Gleyber.
C-Mart, Verlander, Carrasco, Tanaka, Cole, Salazar, Teheran, Stroman, Quintana, Hernandez, and Greinke.
@Ralph Lifshitz: damn it! See keep forever and you’re saying go with gleyber here. Your rankings say bellinger over him. I might go Torres, he raked this spring and every list has him real high. Gimme a crystal ball, not crystal meth tho!
@Mad Beach Bums: In your situation where you want a close to the majors guy it’s Bellinger
@Mad Beach Bums: as he often says his rankings most certainly DO take ETA into account (greatly actually compared to say a BA top 100 list, which much more goes into the tools, albeit they use defensive tools too)
@Ralph Lifshitz: Where does Duffy fit into that mix? Not high on Quintana?
@malamoney: Duffy is funny, I’d probably put him after Salazar, but some may rank him ahead of Carrasco. Based JB my experience there’s a wide range of price tags for Duffy.
I like Quintana, but he lacks the upside of those ahead of him.
Appreciate your comments on Johnny Cueto and Robbie Ray for dynasty leagues. I have an outfielder surplus and would love to acquire one of them in trade. Is Justin Upton reasonable value for Cueto? How about Matt Kemp for Ray?
@Anodyne: I’m not sure the Cueto owner does that but it’s a good deal for you.
@Ralph Lifshitz: Kemp should get it done for Ray but you’re taking on the greater risk.
@Ralph Lifshitz: I hear you on both counts. Trying to see if I’ve got a trade fit for one of those guys, but the value might not quite add up. Thanks for your thoughts!
Sup Ralph,
I have my keeper league draft Monday & pick 3rd. Looking at prospects for my first pick and I like bellinger or eloy or I’ve seen in a comment you like senzel over bellinger now? I want a guy with star potential and some safety from being a “bust”. What to do brother!!!???
@Mad Beach Bums: Just my 2 cents but if 3rd is more important take Senzel all day. Then Id probably go Eloy and Bellinger. All about your team needs but Bellinger probably gets the call first.
@Mike L: I have arenado at 3rd and freeman at 1st. Eloy is a beast but I was hoping for a prospect a little closer to the bigs but might just take him anyway if he’s available.
@Mad Beach Bums: Id say Torres is the best prospect in the minors right now but its all about position need. The Reds arent contending so Senzel might stay back a little longer than he should but I could see Bellinger up by July. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the 3 Id put them in a top 10 list every time.
@Mike L: ya I’ve looked at the available ss too, Torres, Rosario, Adames. I don’t have any pressing needs really just want a future fantasy star that’s not a 2019 or beyond eta.
@Mike L: also I’m interested in bellinger because of the lack of elite depth at 1B both in majors and minors. There’s aging 1B stars but not many young talents coming through. But his potential issues with K’s against MLB pitching makes me nervous although everyone says he has a great eye and approach at the plate so maybe K’s won’t be too much of an issue.
@Mad Beach Bums: I agree 1B is thin. Best young guys are probably Bellinger and Bird but Luis Robert will be a stud.
@Mad Beach Bums: Bellinger is your guy.
@Mad Beach Bums: I still prefer Bellinger to Senzel but it’s all about positional need. The commenter the other day needed a 3B.
@Ralph Lifshitz: oh ok gotcha, thanks for the info Ralph. If he’s there at 3 I’ll take him… I think haha. I’ve seen ranked pretty well on most lists and only your boy Halp is “low” on him compared to others.
Hey Ralph!
With the Rodon injury scare and starting on DL news, I swapped my $7 Rodon for a $3 Joe Ross (cue the Joe Ross music!). I feel pretty good about it / surprised to have been able to pull that off, as Ross and Rodon seem pretty similar (Ross being safer with more W potential, Rodon with higher upside). What do you think?
BTW – think you’d be proud of my reserve draft in this 12-team keeper, snagged both Meadows and Tapia ($0 each), plus a final pick of Raul Mondesi for good measure.
Speaking of Raul, do you think he’s got the 2B gig locked up yet?
@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: I like the deal, won’t hurt you now that Rodon is hurting.
Love the reserves, I’m not too sure, I’d lean that way. He’s a tough nut to crack, huge upside, top notch bloodlines and pedigree, and he’s been young at every level.
@Ralph Lifshitz: Thanks! Yeah my thoughts exactly. I have a cheap JD keeper on this team, and drafted Dahl, so it’s very helpful to not fill up all 3 of my DLs before the season starts!
Thanks – yeah I have no idea what to expect from Raul. He was my last pick, and if he’s not the starter, I’ll drop him (don’t really view him as a hold guy, compared to Tapia/Meadows).
@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: Agree.
Which side dynasty. Jon gray-B .Zimmer-A.Judge or T. Thornburg-A. Both-D. Herrera
@Chris: The Gray, Zimmer, Judge side.
Who’s both?
@Ralph Lifshitz: Austin voth. Oops
@Chris: Yeah 100% the Gray, Judge, Zim side
enjoyed the podcast. Got a kick out of this: Early on Halp said Ralph sounded “subdued.” Ralph thought he was calling him “dude.” Later on Ralph asked if he was still Dude Ralph” and Halp said “yeah you should get a little more coffee.” seemed to continue all show, neither realizing the other was using a different word
@Miles: Hahaha I knew he said subdued the 3rd time or so. Definitely thought he said dude Ralph at first.
@Miles: haha … noticed that but thought I just didn’t hear the “sub” part and assumed he was saying subdued, hahah. I did hear that dude Ralph thing though but thought I misheard.
Ralph, just got offered his Aaron Sanchez, Mejia, 9th rounder for my Cutch…. 12 team roto keep 10 + 10 farm… Draft is tonight.. What’ya think? Thank you as always !
@Landisimo3: Are you competing or nah?
@Ralph Lifshitz: finished 2nd last year..
.. Cutch, Braun, Marte, Lemahieu, Santana, Bell, Hendricks, Salazar, Taillon, Maeda, Britton, Chapman are my 10
@Landisimo3: well 12 ha… brought up taillon.. traded for bell
@Landisimo3: I think I hold on Cutch.
What is the order of value is a 6×6 with W WHIP ERA K Losses the stats for the starters
Roark – Salazar Fulmer Hendricks Lester
@luvdarooks: Hendricks, Lester, Salazar, Fulmer, Roark
“If DeShields hits .315 with 75 steals and ten homers, it wouldn’t surprise me. By the by, that’s first round numbers. Seriously. ” And that’s me quoting you!
@thatguy: Wait, did I switch bodies w/ Grey?
@Ralph Lifshitz: I was talking to Gray. I was in stitches over the references on the show
@thatguy: Hahaha ohhhh
