Rangers RHP Kumar Rocker is all set to make his debut Thursday against the Mariners. Arms don’t always come back from reconstructive elbow surgeries, but Rocker has returned looking like the best version of what we dreamed he could be, wiping hitters away with superb command of an 80-grade slider that mixes well with his fastball and changeup. It’s a tip-of-the-iceberg type feeling at the moment as it stands to reason that there’s more in the tank for Rocker both this year and in the near future considering he’s just 26.2 innings into this healthy phase of career. In two Triple-A starts, he struck out 51.4 percent of the hitters he faced, walking 2.9 percent. That’s pretty good over any sample size.

After coming over from San Diego as part of the return for Dylan Cease, White Sox RHP Drew Thorpe has posted a tremendous season for Double-A Birmingham and was rewarded for his efforts with a promotion straight past Triple-A and into the majors for Tuesday’s game. He threw five innings against Seattle and allowed one earned run. In 60 Double-A innings, Thorpe’s double-plus command and changeup helped him produce a 0.87 WHIP and 1.35 ERA along with 56 strikeouts and 17 walks.

1. OF Joey Loperfido | 24 | AAA | 2024

A seventh round pick in 2021, Loperfido produced better than average lines at each step along the way until a difficult 32-game stint in Triple-A to close out the 2023 season. In the box, he’s a 6’3” 230 lb lefty with power. In the field, he’s a right-handed thrower with enough athleticism that he’s a real option in center field. In 84 games at Double-A, he slashed .296/.392/.548 with 19 home runs and 20 stolen bases. I’m pretty bullish on his chances to carve out a role for himself in center or a corner outfield spot or at first base.
