Yovani Gallardo and Madison Bumgarner paced The Fugs, while Gio Gonzalez added 2 wins despite throwing only 11 innings and giving up 8 runs. captainpyper (RCL 3) dropped to 2nd, 2 points back, while last week’s co-leader MattTruss223 (Rube Waddell’s Shiny Objects — Magnificent Mustachioed Men) fell to 6th place, tied with NYC Matthole (Ones are GOOD, right?), who rose 9 spots. Rank Railheads (RCL 40) moved up to 3rd from 11th, 3 points out of the lead. panthers_freak (We’ve Got the Runs — Baseball Reasons) and Beardcrabs (The Gaylords — Conshellation Prize) are tied for 4th with 106. There are now 11 teams within 7 points of the leader.
DL60 Denial (RCL 13) gained 13 points and moved from 388th to 240th in the overall standings. Team Beefcake (Fantasy Booze Cruise) also had an impressive week, reaching the top 20 with a 30-position gain.
The ECFBL remains the Competitive Index leader, but they did suffer a slight drop. Maybe there’s still hope for the rest of us. Matthew Berry is a Tool remains second best, percentage points ahead of RCL 9.
Turk Wendell stepped up to take over the abandoned team in Myrtle’s Acres this week. Turk’s Quirks currently sit in 5th place, but feature R.A. Dickey, Miguel Cabrera, and Curtis Granderson. Good luck, Turk. Earlier in the year, royce! took over an abandoned team in RCL 33, and he has skillfully led the San Diego Chippers to first place. Not only that, he also manages the first place team in Original Recipe, That’s Not Very Maybin. Both teams are in the top 30 overall. Way to go, royce!
Continuous streaming of pitchers is usually a bad idea, leading to high ratios and low self esteem. But if you are good at it, you can build a stronger offensive team and be tough to beat. I doubt that there are many better at it than Simply Fred (The Fredsies — ECFBL). He has used 60 starting pitchers and has the 15th best ERA (3.05) in the RCL. Lance Lynn leads Fred with 50 innings pitched, 44 strikeouts, and 6 wins. Yet, The Fredsies are atop the toughest Razzball Commenter League, and 14th overall. James McDonald’s ERA is an exceptional 2.44; in 35 innings on The Fredsies, he’s even better, at 1.54. For Kyle Lohse, the comparison is 2.82 overall and 1.82 in 49.1 innings for Fred. A.J. Burnett: 3.31 overall/1.56 in 17.1 IP; Jonathan Niese: 3.55/2.18 in 20.2 IP. Justin Masterson has thrown 16 scoreless innings for The Fredsies. Wade Miley (6.1 IP), Kevin Millwood (6 IP), Tommy Milone (7 IP), and Travis Wood (7.2 IP) have all shutout their opponents while pitching for Fred. Ryan Vogelsong has given up just 1 run in 14 innings . (Hey, I didn’t name it.) And sometimes the moves backfire. Bruce Chen added 6 runs to Fred’s total in 2.2 innings. Jarrod Parker, Kyle Drabek, Wei -Yin Chen, and Chris Capuano were good for another 25 earned runs in 25-and-a-third innings. But, for the most part, Simply Fred has been simply amazing.
Expert League: Ryan Carey (Mastersball Carey) and Rudy continued to battle for the lead, with the Razzball favorite finishing the week 2 points ahead. Hunter Pence (.414/6 Runs/3 HR/7 RBI) and Shin-Soo Choo (.458/7 Runs/2 HR/6 RBI) were Rudy’s top players this week. Rudy is holding his breath until his top star returns to the lineup, hoping Joey Votto doesn’t stretch his Canada Day long weekend into a summer vacation. Grey gained a few points this week as his team actually hit .302. Accidental first round pick Robinson Cano led the way, hitting .414 with 4 home runs and 10 RBI. Aaron Hill, Eric Hosmer, and Giancarlo Stanton also had big weeks.
Trades: There were 20 trades this week, including a reversal of a trade in The Fantasy Booze Cruise. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, Robinson Cano, Jose Reyes, and Jonathan Papelbon were returned to Batty Batterson, while Mike Napoli, Nick Markakis, and Ben Zobrist were sent back to Basement Dwellers. In two separate deals, the Fenway Go Saux (Epic Beardmen Division) netted Zack Greinke, Cliff Lee, A.J. Burnett, Dayan Viciedo, and Stephen Drew while giving up Justin Verlander and Albert Pujols. R.A. Dickey was also dealt in this league, packaged with Tom Wilhelmsen for David Freese and Jon Lester. Verlander was also traded in Magnificent Mustachioed Men, for Mark Teixeira. The second Expert League trade was completed, as Eno Sarris (FanGraphs Sarris) sent Jim Johnson to Ryan Carey (Mastersball Carey) for Neil Walker and the struggling (but 8-2) Ricky Romero (now 8-3). Other moves of interest include Anibal Sanchez for Bryce Harper, and Tim Lincecum for Dustin Pedroia. Mike Trout brought back Dan Uggla and Alejandro De Aza, while Brian McCann and Miguel Cabrera were exchanged for Clayton Kershaw, David Freese, and Joe Mauer. Troy Tulowitzki, Cole Hamels, Chris Sale, Carlos Beltran, and Adrian Beltre were also among the 67 traded players this week.
